This has to be one of the worst credit unions i have ever used. We use them for car payments and for the 2 years of using them it has been 2 years of dealing with problems after problem. It starts off with them not letting you add an external account to the app then not helping you what so ever when you need it. Then it was fine for a while then all of a sudden they started to DELETE the external account from the system causing us to drive over an hour to the closest branch to deliver cash because they dont allow cards on their system. I would give 0 stars if that were possible. This has been the most frustrating and unnecessarily complicated experience I've ever had with a lender. Everything is buried under layers of administrative red tape. Simple requests turn into long back-and-forths where you're repeatedly explaining the same thing to different people who don't seem to communicate with each other or fully understand the process. It's disorganized, inefficient, and exhausting. On top of that, they cap loan payments, which makes absolutely no sense. Even when you want to pay off your loan in full, you're blocked by arbitrary limits that force you to break payments into multiple transactions or jump through extra hoops just to settle your balance. It feels like they're actively making it harder than it needs to be. If you value your time and sanity, avoid this lender. There are far better options out there where basic processes don't feel like a constant struggle. read more

Not really sure where to begin with how bad this institution is but here's a start: extreme holds on checks 7-14 days even when the finances come from universities! couldn't get a license sticker because they went ahead and closed the system down for the day once they put a hold on my MIL ss check deposited a very large check into someone else's account rude and doesn't care about customers at all! Where to begin. The worst mistake of my life was doing business with the place. My loan co signer died 5 years ago, and still to this day they harass me about her signature needing to be on forms or pester me for her death certificate even though it was provided to them 5 years ago. Funny with a motto mentioning treating you like family you'd think they'd know grandma passed away. Now they've set up their payment system to be out of commission for updates over the end of July and beginning of august. Why on earth would any financial institution schedule that for the period of time where payments come due? Easy, they stand to gain late payment fees from anyone who goes past due, and if you're in the unfortunate circumstance of being 90 days past due they just put you over the limit to come repo your car. This was the first account I had ever opened, back when this was Olin Credit Union. Since then, they've changed to 1st MidAmerica and their service and online banking has been abysmal since. For over 10 years, they've put zero effort into updating their online interface, which looks like it's from the 90's. The fact that their passwords can't even allow special characters should speak to how up-to-date their system is. They started withdrawing dormant fees from my account without any notification. The only way to close the account was to submit a written letter, upon which I asked for all necessary info that needed to be included, which they couldn't get right the first time either, requiring me to send an additional letter. This company will discriminate against Black Disabled Veterans even if you over Qaulify for their services. We are only allowed to have checking and savings accounts. at their RACIST institution. I called 1st mid and Before I applied I asked several questions regarding the qualifications of obtaining a credit card. A score of 550 from Transunion being the lowesting they'll be willing to qaulify. I was 625 based on Myfico.com In which ill provide. They said ok we have a 595 from Tu on you. The reviews speak for themselves, seems I'm not the only one that thinks this place is a joke. Worthless doesn't even begin to describe this so called "bank." Snotty customer service people who are too good to help you and are very short with you when you have questions or concerns. Their assistant manager also screwed up my bill pay so bad, that my credit card payments weren't getting to my credit card companies. Her incompetence cause my credit score to drop almost 50 points!! When she was made aware of it, she didn't even respond!! I wanted an account verification sheet (for direct deposit for a new job). Something so flipping simple... It's been 2 days and I still don't have it. The little girl (Amber) at the call center is rude and short and just tells me "I'll it done when I get to it." I could go on for DAYS with all of the issues that I have had. There is literally not ONE single nice thing I could say about them. I have spent hours upon hours upon hours on the phone with them trying to fix their screw ups. That is NOT how banking should be. I would recommend them to my worst enemy. read more

I was originally a customer of Laclede Community Credit Union, whom I had a mortgage and a credit line with. When the "merger" happened with 1st Mid America I was more or less forced over. While they tried to act like this was the same account, I could tell that everything was different so it never felt like a true merger. Now, there have been many MANY problems over the years since, including with my business account which I only added because I felt it would be easier (big mistake). The most common type of problem would be using debit cards - either for personal or business. One problem is the daily limits, which can be increased to a point, but not enough. Another problem is the daily transaction limits, which are set at 20. Again, they can be increased, but not enough. If we need to purchase internationally (which includes a domestic purchase from a company that uses an international payment processor) this ALWAYS results in not only the transaction being declined, but also the card being frozen. However, they never communicate with us about the issue properly. No emails, no text messages, no notification when logging into the account, nope. Just a phone call from a third party Visa group without caller ID information so it looks like a random spam call at a glance. To make this problem worse, the daily transaction limit isn't for successful transactions - it's for attempted transactions. So if one international transaction is made that freezes the card, and then another transaction is made when we didn't know about the freeze that's 2 transactions rather than 1. If that second is reattempted (as many systems are inclined to do) that can result in the card being locked down for 24 hours even after the original hold is lifted. All over a single transaction! When complaining about this we are told stuff like, "You should use a credit card instead of a debit card" meaning that they can't even stand by their own service! Ahh, but what about their credit cards? and lines of credit? and mortgages? Well, on more than one occasion we've transferred money between accounts that then gets reversed automatically - without a record of the attempt! We've even seen this reversal issue happen when transferring between linked accounts, and in one case we transferred from one to to another and then withdrew from the ATM, and had a printed receipt of the balances, but then the system finishes updating and those transactions get reversed leaving a negative balance and an overdraft fee - which technically means that their system can be so badly exploited as to allow you to use linked accounts at just the right time to borrow as much money as you want interest free using just an overdraft fee, but I just find it annoying because it results in a mortgage payment and a credit card payment not being made when I personally made it which, had I not caught it when I did, would have resulted in a foreclosure! The individuals working there are not necessarily bad people, but everything about their system and their products are just rotten. If it wasn't for the fact that interest rates went up significantly since we first got the mortgage we would have gotten out of their long ago! In particular, if you operate a business and expect to use a checking account and debit card system to make purchases for your business, steer clear. They are incapable of meeting the needs of any business. read more

Despite the fact that the police investigated & said the "company" that made the charges didnt exist & there being many pages out there describing this "company" as a scam, the credit union says it's legitimate. I have been with this establishment for 12 yrs. Highly dissatisfied---any time I use the drive-up, I always have a long wait even when there are no other patrons. Many of the staff are incompetent-we dealt with an FSR for an IRA roll-over which was processed incorrectly. I was part of the credit union's security breach a couple years ago when my card number was stolen & was told by an employee that I "needed to be careful how I used my card". Thousands of account numbers were compromised from your establishment so I'm sure it wasn't me! I was recently at a remote location out of town with no internet service so called into the call center & asked them to transfer money from my checking to my loan which was due & was told it would be a $3 processing fee! Keep in mind I never use the call center so this isn't a common occurrence. Seriously it is so simple to transfer funds under the same acct number for a premier member who has over $35,000 invested in your establishment! My husband & I will be taking our money elsewhere-we've had enough. read more
