0 stars--- Went to the bar with a group of friends. Not my first rodeo in the area, however first time to the bar. Night started off well until, the Channing Tatum wannabe bartender got vocal about not being tipped. Then verbally harassed me as my friend paid for the round. We took our next round at another section, were greeted and served drinks instantly by female bartender. Leaving for the night, the male bartender shouted "thanks for the tip". First street bar is the best bar in Encinitas. The bartenders are wonderful. The bouncers are professional and cordial and do a outstanding job,Humphrey,Pat, Alex and Dukky. If you want enjoy your time ask for Cory,Megan,Heidi,Jill,Kirsten,Karina and Lindsey they will treat you right. Check in on Four square and yelp your first pitcher is half price. read more

This place used to be a cool little bar in Encinitas until the new owner tried to turn it into a clone of the one he owns in P.B. Totally changed it - for the worse. Only redeeming assets are the occasional good live music and Cory the bartender. Alot of comments in the reviews about nasty bouncers. Agreed. Not all of them I'm sure, but the couple I've met were like the proverbial school bully. Not the kind of crap you want to deal with on a night out. There are too many other cool bars within a couple miles. A real travesty what they did to this place. Used to be a great dive bar. read more

Stumbled in here after quite a bit of pre-drinking and I have to say --Sucked --its too bright and the space is awkwardly open so not at all "comfy" like a neighborhood dive bar is supposed to be --yet it still smelled and there were still the "creepy" regulars hanging in the corners. Went in there last night and the the dip sh#t bouncer asked me for 3 forms of ID and wasn't going to let me in until another bouncer came and said it was OK. I really like this place for a few beers and some dancing. I'ts one of the only places in Encinitas where people actually dance. During the day it's a little empty but they do have a ping pong table and a pool table. Some of the bar tenders are not that friendly, but maybe they were just having off nights. Worst bar not only in Encinitas but San Diego. Flew down from San Francisco to go out with friends and ended up at this bar. After buying an exceedingly expensive amount of drinks, was kicked out for giving the DJ a song suggestion. If you are a halfway normal, fun and cool person you will bail this place like the plague. I went there often but didn't tip once cause I ran out of ones and he looked at me, shook his head, and said "You're really gonna be that guy...?" I tried to explain (not that I should have to) and he just stopped serving me that night and told all the staff to stop serving me. The bartenders need a serious attitude adjustment. You work at a bar, learn that and learn that fast. They need to realize not everyone in Encinitas is not trying to drink and drive but we are at a bar, so were trying to DRINK! First time I went there they said I could have water after 2 drinks! The second time I went there they wouldn't serve me or my friend or 2 drinks! I could understand this is if I was acting drunk or falling but those two times 1st street was the first place we went to. They are ridiculously rude and I will not be returning! Also even on slow nights they make you wait outside forever! Hey some of us actually know what a crowded place looks like and 1st street you don't have it and won't have it if your extremely rude bartenders don't learn what customer service is. read more

1st is a welcoming atmosphere with live bands and and cold drinks. They really keep the 101 dive bar scene alive. Outside all of that, they have a great bar staff including bartender, Brandin. Brandin is an awesome bartender with speedy service and great conversation. I highly recommend 1st Street Bar to anyone in the area looking for some 101 fun. read more

It's a quaint lil joint that has a pair of Medalist Spectrum Elite T electronic dart boards and a couple of pool tables. There's no oche (throw line) for the dart boards which is really lame, but something tells me I'm one of the only people in Encinitas who actually goes there to shoot darts. There's a small 'stage' next to the dart boards that I'm guessing is used for live acts (or karaoke if they ever decided to venture in that direction). I went on a Tuesday, the place was pretty slow. They have one pool table which was taken the whole time. Someone brought in a pizza from another buisness and no one cared, so I'm guessing the place is low key. The bartender was great, she was on it with refilling the drinks and hey even gave me a glass of water when I decided to cut it off so I could get home in one piece. If your looking for a place to meet up and chat or shoot pool it's good. If you wanted to watch the Lakers game cause you don't have the extended NBA package or satalite TV head down to D Street. read more

My friends and I come on Friday nights after work. The pitchers of shock top are $7.50. Cory is always our bartender and he's super friendly and fun. At a certain time of the night they have a DJ spinning lots of good music. It's a dive bar, with music and no cover. Awesome!!! read more

I have been here twice now and both times I have left bitter about The treatment I received by the staff. If you are going out in Encinitas I would recommend going anywhere but here. I went to this bar for NYE. The music was good they played hip and old school for majority of the time which is up my ally. I'm not sure if that DJ is normally there though. The Saloon may be a dive bar, but on Friday and Saturday it doesn't feel like 1, but 1st street always does. It's the vibe, the atmosphere, the set up, all pointing to a full time divebar. Drinks are usually tall, but watered, they come quick all things considering. Music is ok to tolerable if there is a DJ, but it's just too casual to really make anyone's opinion sway as the diveiest dive this side of the 5 (in Encinitas). Dive bar's are usually my favorite types of bars, but you should come here any day but Friday and Saturday for that, because the big 3 (1st Street, D Street, Saloon turn it up a notch. You won't find people overdressed here like you might elsewhere. It's not a stop off point to pre-party. It's the end up point. Like Denny's. You never go to Denny's, you just end up there. That pool table kills the movement through the room, the lighting is just way too bright and the crowd is the lazy people who didn't want to wait around up in Carlsbad. read more
