We stopped by Anigma last night and didn't have the best experience. We didn't have a reservation so we asked if they were taking walk ins. We had a party of 6 so we knew it maybe difficult. We spoke to the hostess and she kept asking her manager about certain sections and he kept saying no that's reserved or we already have that section filled. He finally agrees to a table but it was a four top. We asked if there were two seats at the bar for the rest of the party and he was adamant that it was full. The boys decided to go to another bar and the girls went into the speakeasy. When we walked in there were several tables open and there were 4 seats available at the bar. We were told we only had the table till 8pm. We ordered our drinks and were out in less than 30 min. The whole time the seats at the bar were empty so were two tables. Our entire group could have easily had a drink and been out before any of the "suppose reservations "had arrived. We spoke to the hostess and she apologized and said she tried but her manager said no. The owner was there too and he asked what had happened and he apologized and said he would speak to his manager. Regardless of how the owner handles it, we were treated poorly and the speakeasy handles their walk ins bad. The drinks we had were good it's too bad they don't know how to manage their seating.

The door was open and a few guys were standing around the bar inside. We walked in, asked if they were open, and they welcomed us to grab a seat, while letting us know "the DJ doesn't start for an hour though". I'd obviously stumbled into a spot I'd normally not frequent, but hey... I was already sitting on a bar stool and ordering an Old Fashioned! Friendly staff and decent prices. The booths to the right were a little worn, but as this place is more of a club than bar - that stands to reason. I only stayed for a single drink and then left, but the place started filling out as I walked out the door. BTW... the rope out front should have signaled to me that this place attracts a younger crowd (I initially missed that tip!).

The establishment desperately needs remodeling, but the retractable roof is nice. They could update the lasers and visuals. It's great from about 10pm till 12:30am. After that it's overcrowded and patrons can be too intoxicated. It's the only space for House music in North County and worth the occasional visit but there's much more going on downtown and in Mission Beach where you get a better experience for your money.

I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos and a house coffee. The coffee was actually pretty good! Cream and sugar were delivered separately to finish with your preference. As for the tacos, it was okay. The fish was a bit dry for my liking, cabbage could have been chopped with more finesse, and I wished they QC'd their limes a bit before putting them on the plate. Both were bone dry and I had to ask for more. Moreover, the cilantro lime rice was also a bit bland. It needed salt to lift the flavors in my opinion. There weren't even flecks of green if it was supposed to be cilantro? I tried boyfriend's veggie hash but was disappointed to find that it was almost all potatoes. Having said that, it was an extremely generous portion so he was filled up. While I didn't try it, our friend that had the chorizo hash also said it was okay so I'm guessing the ratio wasn't quite right. Anyways, ask for their chili sauce on the side, that's actually quite surprising. It had really good heat and was more like a chili crisp than a vinegary hot sauce. The plates that did score favorably at the table were the carne chilaquiles and the divorced eggs.

One is a nice, sit-down restaurant. One is a coffee house. The third is the Pocket Pool and Bar. We found the service to be good, but we really didn't enjoy the drinks. The space was rather empty in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. We received coupons good for two welcome beverages at The Pocket when checking in at the resort. When we arrived at The Pocket after checking in but while waiting for our room to be ready, we found ourselves to be the only guests there. No reservations were needed. The clouds were out but it would soon be nice and sunny. We sat down and each ordered a zero proof cocktail. The ask was for something fruity and sweet. We ordered a variation of the Feeling Peachy, consisting of peach puree, citrus, mint, and bubbles. We did choose to give the bartender the freedom to make drinks that would be fruity and sweet as none of the drinks on the menu sounded like what we were feeling for. The bartender brought us drinks that we tried and decided we wouldn't have ordered if we didn't have vouchers for free drinks. As such, we acknowledged they weren't for us, though if we would have paid for them, we would have been disappointed. As such, I'd encourage anyone ordering drinks at The Pocket to stick with drinks on the menu. Speaking of the menu, the menu offers beach bites like smashed guacamole, craklin' buffalo wings, elote fries, quesadilla, sunset ceviche, and dirty nachos. The main event dishes include blackened Baja fish tacos, the wagyu double smash, millionaire's BLT, coastal Cali burrito, and Pacific poke. The balanced-ish menu items include pocket Caesar, the wedge, paradise bowl, and the Santorini. Treat Yourself dishes include cookie sando, assorted fresh fruit, and seasonal sorbet. Beverages include cocktails, wine, drafts, cans, zero proof. The Pocket is a surf-inspired bar with a view. There are televisions to watch sports games, and with the bar being part indoors and part outdoors, you can catch the nice weather or escape from it depending on if it is sunny or rainy. You can make a reservation on OpenTable. The bar hours are open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM. The kitchen is open Monday through Thursday from 12 noon to 6 PM, Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 7:30 PM, and Sunday from 12 noon to 6 PM. Should we visit the Alila Maria Beach Resort Encinitas again, we may give The Pocket a try again but more for the atmosphere, good service, and perhaps some bites instead of drinks.

The host and bartender (Alec) were super welcoming and introduced me to a few great wines from the outstanding selection.
