Carne Asada was thin, sad, and very overcooked. Chimichanga was not fried, there was an extra charge for sour cream and guacamole, and had the wrong meat. Chile Relleno was flat and sad, barely any cheese. The bill was about three times as much as it should be. The one positive is that the margarita are big, and strong. There was more cheese and rice on my plate than there was crab, I couldn't even taste the crab and literally no sauce to help slide the rice down. Our dinner was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend coming here!! There was 6 people in our party and let me tell you, every single one of us loved our meals. The coconut shrimp was probably the best coconut shrimp I've ever had, and the margaritas were huge and so many flavors to choose from. It was busy on a Saturday night, but obviously that shows how popular this place is! If the weather was warmer we would have chosen to sit outside on the nice patio area but it was a little too cold so we sat inside at the large table and we were very comfortable even tho the inside was on the smaller side. Stopped here Tuesday for early lunch- 11:30. They have inside/outside seating. Outside was mostly full. Crazy for a Tuesday. Thank Waitress said they are always busy and dinner has a wait every night. 2 tables for us - 3 adults and 4 kids. The margaritas were good. Not to sweet and you could appreciate the tequila. One in our party needed a vodka margarita and they accommodated easily. Kids had faux margs and they were gone quickly. Chips and salsa quite tasty. Salsa was spicy for some but I thought right on. The best thing about this restaurant is it's convenience for those staying in Union or Hoodsport. However, everything else about it is just not worth it. First of all, when we called to order we wanted a fish taco plate and a burrito, pretty standard. I wanted rice and beans and asked if the plate included them. The lady said no so we ordered an extra side. When we went to pick up the food, it was crazy over priced (and we're from California so we know about expensive food) and the plate included the rice and beans when I specifically asked about them. (Coconut shrimp & carne asada plates were both tasty. Great seasoning & flavor on the asada plate!! I would add a side of beans to the shrimp plate.) We just were not expecting to be attacked by all these tiny, baby mosquitoes! Maybe they hatch this time of year or hit at sunset - but there were no citronella candles or bug zappers to defend us! The last thing I expected to find on a trip to Hood Canal was a Mexican restaurant, let alone one that is DELICIOUS. Being from Southern Cali, we pride ourselves on having the best Mexican food North of Mexico, but this restaurant might just have us beat. It's not the fanciest Mexican restaurant I have been to, but boy is the food authentic. I have to start with their pinto beans, hands down the most delicious beans I have ever had. I normally doctor my beans and add salsa, but I didn't have to do a darn thing and for the first time I ate ALL of them on my plate. So did everyone else at the table. I am not kidding, one of our guests lifted her plate and licked it. She wasn't going to leave a speck behind. I order the chicken enchiladas with mole, and once again, first time EVER I finished a plate of food at a Mexican restaurant. I suffered afterwards, but it was so freaking good I had to eat every bite. The margaritas were on point too. I wish this place were in Southern Cali, I would be a regular. They are at the Union Boat Marina, so you can boat right in, fuel up your watercraft and yourself and head back out. We sat outside in the shade and watched the canal and enjoyed ourselves immensely. So one of the requirements that I bestowed upon my parents when retiring up to WA state was that we would go out to eat if/and when I come visit them! Coming from southern CA - I needed a good restaurant to eat especially when it comes to Mexican food. Little did I know that they would take me to 2 Margaritas. This place was surprisingly authentic and did not disappoint. It was near the quality that I would expect from a restaurant closer to home. The place looked authentic and had a nice view of the Ocean canal. My family and I usually share from each other as to taste the different varieties of what the restaurant makes. If your up in this part of the woods (literally) I would recommend this place. Great scenery -- and fantastic food. CARNE ASADA PLATE: Is what I had ! Meat was tender and flavorful and full of zest... rice was excellent, soft and full of flavor. The beans and cheese were as good as it gets. Our family of five was starving after 4 hours of hiking. We were staying at Union and there are not many dining options. We completely lucked out with 2 Margaritas. The service was super friendly and incredibly fast. The room was standard Mexican fare. Nothing super fancy but it was fresh, tasty and the portions were huge. The free chips came with a surprisingly good salsa and bean dip, which was a nice touch. The loaded chicken nachos were great - and truly loaded. I think it was about 5 lbs of food on that plate. First the good, clean restaurant, friendly staff, nice view of the water. I stopped by for take-out lunch after a morning of fishing and exploring. I ordered a chile Relleno + rice/beans. Finally, a chile Relleno made right! It was a good size poblano stuffed with jack and deep-fried in egg batter. The sauce was a lite tomato (not overbearing or acidic) so it did not take away from the chile Relleno flavor. The only problem was there was too much cotija cheese. Next time I will be sure to request only a sprinkle of cotija. I give the Relleno a 5 star. The chips were warm and fresh tasting. The salsa was perfect - not to hot, not too thick, excellent flavors. They gave me plenty of salsa for the chips. Now the reason I am giving this only 4 stars. The texture of the refried beans was perfect as if home-made. The disappointment was the lack of flavor. All I tasted was salt. On top of the beans was orange cheddar and jack. There was a rim of cheddar grease around the beans. I scraped off the cheese and added a couple of tablespoons of salsa but still did not improve the taste. The rice was yellow and tasted like it was cooked with chicken broth. It reminded me of chicken Rice-a-Roni from a box. After one bite, I couldn't eat anymore. I will definitely return but I will order ala cart. No refried beans and rice! Finally, my lunch to-go cost $14. No lunch special. They should lower the price a few dollars. read more

Not for vegans or vegetarians! I ordered the avocado tostado salad with no meat.I told the waitress I was a vegetarian. The salad arrived. It consisted of 3 cups shredded lettuce, perhaps a tablespoon of tomatoes, 4 slices avocadoes, on top of a few beans, cheap cheese, and a soggy tostado. I tried to eat it, but I could not manage to swallow the flavorless mound of soggy lettuce. I rarely return food, but this time I did. When I returned the food, I explained it had no flavor. The waitress stated, to my surprise, it was "because it had no meat. If it had meat, it would have flavor." I was offended by her rudeness and explained that when I make a vegetarian salad it tastes great. The waitress took this further, and continues to charge for the salad even though I said I was returning it. She explained she had "taken a beer off" the ticket instead ($4.00 beer compared to 16.25 salad). Unfortunately, I had to mention bringing this to the manager's attention before she changed the ticket. I not return, as this place is clearly not friendly to those with plant-based diets. read more

What a disappointment. We live on Key Peninsula and were excited to try this place as they are opening one within walking distance of our home. That opening has been delayed by Covid so we figured what a great opportunity to still support them before they even arrive in our neighborhood. Well...don't go here if a) you're a high risk individual during covid or b) you care about good service. We parked in the lot outside the door, put on our masks and started to head in. Immediately, an employee rushed in with a mask around her neck right in front of us. She went up to the hostess stand and starting working without washing her hands or putting her mask on. We finally got a half hearted greeting but no eye contact and no follow-up offering to seat us. I wasn't even sure it was for us but nobody else was around. We then kept waiting and started observing the staff. There was another woman delivering food with her mask only around her neck. We looked over towards the bar tender and she had her mask covering her mouth but only half way...not even trying to cover her nose. We couldn't see a single employee actually wearing their mask. We ended up deciding that this was not a safe environment to dine in and left. On the way out, a gentleman who looked like the manager was coming in. To give him credit, he helped signal when no cars were coming so that I could back out of their parking lot safely. He had a friendly smile - which sadly I could see because he also wasn't masked. It's a mandate for your employees to wear masks. If you can't even follow this (and your hostess doesn't even wash her hands from coming in from outside) then I wouldn't risk eating at an establishment like this, especially on a holiday weekend with so many people coming in from outside the area. We sure hope the Lakebay location is better run as we need a safe space in our neighborhood. But based on this experience, I'll be warning my neighbors to approach the new location opening cautiously. read more

WOW! What huge portions they serve!!!! This is a Tex-Mex style restaurant with the usual menu items plus a few surprises, like a large veggie sub-menu. The service was excellent, the portions large (some in our party say huge) and the food quality very good (for Tex Mex). They offer a couple extra salsas beside the "normal" tomato style that are both a nice change. 2 Margaritas is a pretty safe bet that you'll leave full and satisfied. Standard Mexican fare that one would expect. There is a nice twist on the chips and salsa that comes out first. The chips are warmed and fresh and come with a bean dip, salsa, and chopped mushrooms with cilantro. I had the Carne Asada and Shrimp plate. The Asada was spiced well and tender. The shrimp were okay, standard frozen supermarket variety. The portions are generous. The Sangria was good and I would recommend getting one, or two! I'd skip dessert. The Flan was just ok. The deep fried ice cream I tasted was not true deep fried ice cream, it was vanilla ice cream with corn flakes on it. I tried one of my daughter's Churros and it tasted stale, like it was frozen and heated in the oven. Jack in the Box Churros slay these Churros. The service was fast and friendly. read more

Great location! We were kayaking and this restaurant is right near the shoreline which meant easy access and a nice view. Good Service -- our waitresses had nice smiles and were polite. Decor was charming! The food, however was disappointing. The refried beans looked like they'd been diluted with something greasy. I'd never had such runny, greasy fried beans before -- yuck! Also, we had hoped for authentic Mexican food, but there were canned green beens, peas and carrots mixed in my husband's mexican rice. They couldn't even make a proper Mudslide (my favorite cocktail). Even their online drink menu says that it's made with vanilla ice cream, but mine was definitely made with ice.
