When my glasses were broken in an accident at work, my employer was going to pay for replacement, but balked at the cost of an estimate I had gotten at another optical store. They asked me if I would check with 2020. I'm so glad I did! Not only were they able to order the identical frame, but the price was MUCH cheaper (something like $500). And, the digital lenses not only provided amazing correction, David did an amazing job making them so thin they don't even show out of the frame...an amazing feat considering they are progressive bifocals. Many people don't even realize they are prescription glasses, and just think they're some high fashion sunglasses, LOL (They're transition lenses that get darker outdoors). I rarely write reviews but use Yelp a lot. I ordered my new glasses today. I went there yesterday and Diane greeted me warmly and immediately started pulling out frames for me. First of all, their inventory is better than most places, and trust me when I tell you I have been looking for a while for that "perfect" frames! They carry many high end brand names and more affordable yet good quality glasses and frames. I was very pleased of the many options I had to chose from. Their service and customer care is superb! I came here to get glasses for my 2-year-old son as it was recommended by our opthamologist. First off, everyone here is very knowledgable, but if you are coming to have a child fitted for glasses I would recommend Diane!!! She is fabulous, has a great memory, and has worked with children for years before coming to 20/20 Optical. Working with David (the owner) or Diane I would give 5 stars - no question! Working with Judith I would give 3 - which is why I compromised at 4 stars for this review. Judith was awful at recommending eye glasses for a 2-year-old boy, she overcharged us for little things like the scratch resisance coating, and gave us the highest grade of anti-glare coating without consulting with me. I had no idea that there were degrees of anti-glare. I told her I was a single mom without any help trying to correct my son's vision and she overcharged me. That pair of glasses came to $500. Now I would like to praise David and Diane! Diane is amazing!!! She is honest, forthcoming, extremely patient and helpful, and after telling her my experience with Judith she spoke with David (the owner) who made it right for us. Thank You David!! David, the owner, fixed a pair of glasses I bought there a few months ago....and stepped on. They fell from my bed when I was asleep, and I stepped on them in early morning stupor. He could not have been nicer...warning me that the new 45 degree bend AT THE HINGE connection to the glass might be irreparable. But he tried. And he did it. Buying there was easy. Selection: I wanted light weight and memory metal frames my daughter would not laugh at...was easy and painless. I read some of the slams on this business, and think they are full of it. I just had the most fantastic experience at 20/20. I put off getting new glasses for almost 2 years for all kinds of reasons- difficulty making decision, high prices etc. Finally called 20/20 to check on their hours. First phone contact- a woman named Diane who could not have been more professional, and inviting. I decided to go in and finally get my new glasses from the prescription I had been carrying around since last August. ( I have probably been in 20 eyeglass stores in the last 18 months trying on different frames) The owner David was there and happened to wait on me. So professional, so helpful, no pressure - just great opinions when I asked for them. I left after 90 minutes and ordering 4 pair!!!! The basic every day, sunglasses (mine were 10 years old and completely unserviceable), readers and a pair specifically for the computer. The hardest thing about the experience was making a choice because quite frankly whoever buys for that store has taste. Every single pair is gorgeous and their prices are completely competitive. 20/20 has a rep for being expensive. They are not. They carry great frames and are priced not any higher than the same frame at some of the high end stores downtown!!! All 4 pair will be ready in 3 days and I can't wait to have them. Saved our vacation! We're not from around here, so when my kid's glasses mysteriously got bent all to hell (let's face it -- he probably stepped or sat on them) I didn't know where to turn. Yelp led us to 20/20. The eyeglasses tech said the glasses were probably goners -- they were seriously messed up -- and that they'd probably break when he tried to bend them back into shape...but he said he'd give it a try. And voila! He magically managed to get them realigned without breaking. Buddy, you just saved me a bundle of money and I'm so, so appreciative. If we lived here we'd be getting all our glasses from you guys. So locals, take my advice: this place rocks. read more

Honestly the best I've ever been treated at an eye place! I didn't have an appointment when I walked in and they helped me right away. I was helped by David (I believe he is the owner) but he was AMAZING! He made sure I left happy with my decision. I tried multiple glasses and was conflicted in which ones to get because I'm very indecisive but at the end he made sure I was in love with the ones I choose and made sure they fit my face good. Apart from the amazing service they also told me that they would have my glasses ready in 1-2 days! Thats the fastest I've ever gotten my glasses. I usually don't take the time to write reviews for yelp, but I had to with 2020 Optical. The service was simply amazing. I was referred to the optometrist in the same building, and got great service. Once I got the prescription, I went to 2020 and found a great variety of what I was looking for. I was on a tight time schedule, because I needed my glasses to be ready the following day since I was about to travel for business. Sure enough the glasses were ready at 8 AM the next morning. David Schwartz did an amazing job at helping me with my selection. On top of that, I don't think the turnaround could get any better. Yes, this store is probably not for you if you are looking for inexpensive. However, if you, like me, wear glasses all the time, enjoy superb customer service, and want to find unique and gorgeous frames, 20/20 Optical is a good place to start. They stock a wide variety of high end frames that you won't find anywhere else. I have purchased 3 complete pairs of glasses from them. Right from the start I was treated to impeccable customer service. Diane is not only a kind and generous person she is also an expert at finding the perfect frame for you. She has not only helped me but was able to look at my friend I had brought in and know which frames to steer us towards. Every face is different and her ability to hone in on what will look good on yours is amazing. She also knows the details of every frame in the store. Such beautiful frames require excellent lenses. I have a very high prescription and astigmatism which complicates the lens production process. They have a state of the art lab upstairs and all of my lenses are light, thin, and require little upkeep thanks to scratch resistant coating. I cannot really convey how great my experiences here have been. Promised 15 minute repair took 2 hours, promised a call back when fixed, never received it i had to call them, promised to replace tip from broken part onto glassed, never done. 4 eyes 4 40+ yrs... I went to 20/20 because on the phone they stated that they are a VSP provider (not true), they carry Barton Perriera (BP), & their "expo" was coming up (another location). They did not have the BP line @ their annual "expo" so I had to go to 20/20 another day. They quoted me $100 more than another optical boutique in Larkspur for the same frames, yet did agree to match their competitor's price. After they "marked down" their price, it was $1000 [that's when I learned that they are not a VSP provider]! I had to insist on a detailed receipt beyond the credit card receipt with only the words, "deposit." The 1st time my glasses were "ready," I was told that I needed time to adjust. Upon arriving home, I noticed that there were scratches all over one lens. They replaced one lens. When I came back 1 wk later stating that I couldn't see correctly, they had me come back for an eye exam on another day. Their doctor told me that she made a slight change in my prescription, "nothing that would warrant new lenses." The sales person however, told me that the change was significant & tried to charge $45 for the exam. I refused to pay for the exam. They agreed to remake the order yet later tried again to charge for the exam. Twice while I waited in the store, there was another customer who had a problem with their order i.e., had to have the order remade or was told "come back for an exam with our doctor." The sales person told me that it usually takes 2-3 times for her to get her eyeglasses correct. What? In 40+ years of wearing glasses, only once before did my glasses need to be redone & was quickly resolved. In my opinion, 20/20 Optical is NOT "best in Marin" P.S. Their receipt says: "your eyewear is custom made final sale no refunds/exchanges". Buyer beware! read more

I was with my nephew who was the customer actually, but was so impressed with Diane and her level of customer service that I had to yelp them. Without going into the details she listened, heard and offered solutions, all with a refreshing warmth and personality that you do not often see anymore. After years of "making do" with frames I sorta-kinda-like and staying within vision insurance (cheapskate) limitations, I finally decided to get decent frames. (I'm in higher education and so am frequently in front of groups of people trying to look and act intelligent.) I made it to 20/20 after looking at all the shops on Solano Ave. in Berkeley/Albany, and the UC Berkeley Optometry store, and two places in San Francisco on Powell. Although pricey, 20/20 has an amazing selection of frames I didn't see anywhere else. Diane took one look at my rather narrow face and said, "I've got just the frames for you!" To my astonishment, they were not only what I was looking for (lightweight, Titanium) but fit my face nicely and (for once) were also stylish. (And they are made in the EU and not China.) A week later, the lenses were ready and both Diane and David made sure the frames fit correctly. When it turned out the prescription was slightly off, Diane worked with me via email and said they could accommodate a revised prescription and new lenses. She then helped with a redo that cost me only around $60 for expedited shipping. As another person stated in this review chain, I have received numerous complements about my "new look" and am pleased I treated myself to this entirely reasonable splurge. (The reason for 4 out of 5 stars is simply related to cost.) read more

unfortunately I have been wearing thick glasses ever since I was 4 years old. Most doctors do nor recommend common surgeries or Lasik because of my high prescription, So I have been resigned to wearing glasses for life. Fortunately the good people at 20/20 recognize that and have been very helpful over the years. Having top quality lenses and nice frames makes all the difference. I have bought 5 pairs of glasses over the years and they have all been the best glasses I have ever owned. My wife had a pair of Oakley sunglasses that she loved. Unfortunately the lenses became scratched and the protective film started to peel away. MORE unfortunately, Oakley was no help as the lenses were obsolete and could not be repaired--until we found 20/20! Best optical shop experience I've had in 40 years of wearing glasses and contacts. My wife suggested the store when, after 12 years, I needed serious eyeglass replacement, going from a simple distance lens to a trifocal. The service was fabulous. Every person knew the business and multiple product lines. The selection of frames was awesome. Over an hour was spent with me looking at frame choices that would maximize the optical experience while remaining totally 'with it' in terms of style. That's not easy to do, combining style with trifocals, but this store managed that task efficiently. Pricing was competitive with other stores I'd checked out, and choices of products much better here than elsewhere. This is no mass market discounter moving customers through as fast as possible with relatively few choices; this is personal service of huge value and benefit to the store's clients. The glasses arrived in perfect shape after ordering, and I wore them for a year without difficulty. Then, the special optical coating on one of the lenses started breaking down, not due to 20/20's work, but a manufacturing problem. I brought the glasses into the shop over a year after buying them, and with no questions asked, 20/20 arranged for replacement of BOTH lenses. I took the glasses into the store when the new lenses had arrived and two hours later, walked out with what amounted to a brand new pair of glasses. My cost: a nominal shipping fee for the lenses; virtually nothing. This entire transaction defines the meaning of "Customer Service" to me - top quality service in a world that often lacks such service. I've referred people to 20/20 the past year, and they've all been completely satisfied. As I said at the top, by far the best optical experience I've had in my life. read more

Their newest lens are like HIGH DEF! This store is not for the bargain hunter; it is for those who want the highest quality lens available. I didn't start wearing glasses until my late 40's and couldn't stand the notion. I wanted something distinct, fun, and to see as well as I had for the previous 47 years of my life. My first two pair were made through another optical shop; attractive, and seemed adequate. But I was entirely naive of what was possible and initially resisted, not believing it made a difference. It wasn't until I was willing to spend more and that I truly got more.The lens from 20/20 optical are THE LEADING TECHNOLOGY, produced in house, digitally mastered. Putting on their lenses is like seeing in HIGH DEF; my eyes actually felt relief. I have a narrow face, didn't like the feeling of nose pads, and other requirements in my selection. These were all handled expertly by 20/20 staff in ensuring only the most appropriate frames were chosen for me to try. Their frames are probably overpriced, but better priced if purchased during their once a year optical fair, when vendors bring their wares and the selection is fantastic. Still, they have by far the best selection I have found, and a better lens won't be found. I will never skimp and go anywhere else. read more

I've written a review of 20/20 before and now another great experience to share. If you aren't going there for all your eye care needs you have cheesy glasses and aren't getting the service and quality you need to SEE. The other day, I went by to have my frames fixed. I had a spill sailing, bending my frames. I thought them beyond repair since I got fractured ribs and my left face black/blue in the spill. I feared paying the high cost of repair. I went to a place near my job and they said to fix the frames, they could break. I said, I'd then go to MY people (20/20) because if they broke in repair-- I'd at least know the best had tried. And would not wonder if incompetence had separated me from my cool frames. Diane fixed them! I don't want to second guess my decisions. That is very important to me. Maybe to you? Yes, if you wear progressives, you have to know that there are different qualities of lenses. With cheaper lenses, when you look to the side without moving your head, you'll lose focus. I mean really lose focus. The better quality is more expensive, of course. Some stores you can choose I believe. 2020 only sells the best. So, yes glasses are not cheap there. And choosing frames; well anyone who has worn glasses for 50 years like me knows that it's a tricky business. We are not the best judges of our own appearance, and we all need help. These folks have actual professional opinions that they are not afraid to express. I've had good outcomes every time I've been in, and I've regretted the times I've tried to save money at other places. read more

And I instead of having to wait one or two weeks for my glasses, I had them in 2 days. David the optometrist took the time to make sure my glasses were perfectly adjusted and taught me how to use my first pair of progressive lenses. Hey are expensive, but I won't shop anywhere else. I just received the most unbelieveable pair of glasses! I have worn glasses for years upon years and can honestly say that these are the best lenses I have ever had.
