Udate: 3/2026 Turns out that 2 out of the three lenses had a curvature measurement (factory default) that made them sort of distort my vision. I create intricate pixel art for a living so I am very "fussy" about getting a proper image correction from my lenses. I'm happy to report that the fine folks at Lumina insisted on remaking the lenses to my exact specifications at no extra charge. Now they're just perfect! My family and I have been seeing Dr Salman for over 20 years. Always patient, professional, communicates the process as you go. I never feel rushed. Never a sense my appointment is a limited time or there is someone waiting behind me; never have to wait because "the doctor is running late." I've been a patient of Dr. Salman for many years and of the many optometrists I've seen over my years (and years!) of needing glasses/contacts, he is the best! I had never stopped to look at the glasses selection though-- it was always stuck over an uninviting side area and it looked like the selection was small. However, on my recent yearly visit there was a bright and nice area in front with loads of glasses to check out, and best of all there were two great opticians, Tracy and Mariana, who worked with me to find super cute and comfortable glasses! What has always been a slightly painful process was made fun and easy with their excellent help and feedback. Even another customer there for a fitting weighed in-- I love that! The pair of glasses I chose was the first one Tracy picked out when she took a look at my face and asked if I had a color I liked in particular. They were even lovely when I showed up to pick up my new specs after the office was officially closed and they were busy putting everything away:). Great experience overall! read more

Every optometrist I have seen has tried to upsell me on the services, glasses, .... Dr. Salman is the COMPLETE opposite. He charged a more than reasonable price for a comprehensive eye exam, he used some new tech so I didn't have to use the eye drops and have messed up vision for an hour, and when done, gave me my prescription with absolutely no effort to get more money out of my pocket by selling me the most expensive glasses in his shop. And when I asked about where to get some CHEAP glasses so I could test out the prescription before I got nice glasses, he recommended the online companies that have $20 cheapos so I could test. I've gone to see Dr. Salman twice now. The first time was 2 years ago, and he was a very gentle, warm doctor. The receptionist then was also friendly and helpful. One week ago, I scheduled an early morning eye appointment for 7:45am. When making the appointment, I asked if my 20-month old son could be present with me, and I was told it would be all right. This time there was no receptionist, only Dr. Salman. I was 10 minutes late with my son, who of course decided to make everything take twice as long that morning! But the door was unlocked and Dr. Salman was courteous and didn't make me feel bad at all for being late. He again was gentle, spoke kindly, and was really sweet with my son. After looking over my VSP benefits and pricing out my contacts order, I decided to purchase a year of contacts from him. I also browsed at the eyeglasses selection for a few minutes before leaving, and I was out of the place by 8:15! It was a super fast, pleasant experience. He didn't make me feel bad for not purchasing glasses from him either, recognizing that there are so many competitors in the eyeglass market. What a lovely practice - I've struggled with readers and progressives for the last five years, unable to find the right fit or lens or look. Speaking of look, searching for your glasses when you most need them is no fun, ugh! Dr Salman assessed me for contacts and decided I only needed one contact lens (!) in order to correct my presbyopia. I'm an obsessive reader and the blurred vision that has come with aging is no fun. He then invited me in for a follow-up appt, whereupon he taught me the proper application and removal. I was no expert, for sure - why was it so hard?? - but he was so patient and left me to fiddle with it, making sure that I had all the assistance I needed and was confident once I walked out the door. Because of his tips, this morning's application was a breeze, and I CAN SEE. It's amazing. I've gone to two other ophthalmology clinics on 4th street and have left feeling somewhat dissatisfied, so this is gonna be my spot from now on, for sure. After being with the same optometrist in SF for 20+ yrs, I was skeptical that I would find anyone comparable. In fact, Dr Salman is better! He is patient, kind and very professional. I'm most happy about the fact that he managed to get me into contacts, suggesting using just one for reading. It has transformed my life! My prior optometrist had told me that I was not a candidate for contacts... Lumina also has a small but extremely good selection of frames. I have very poor distance vision in one eye (20/200) and ran out of contacts. I called numerous optometrists to see if they stocked the lenses. Nobody was able to help except for Lumina and the front desk assistant. She took the time to ask the optometrist and call me back to let me know they could give me a couple trial lenses to hold me over until my order arrived. They made it so easy knowing I was in a pinch, and for that kindness I am forever grateful. The frame selection is nicer than any shop I've ever been to, and the staff is great with assisting in frame selection and fitting (especially when you've got a giant melon like mine). I went to this optometrist for years. Things seemed OK. Then I got new glasses. I got a pair of reading glasses and sunglasses, as well as one lense updated in my regular or "distance" glasses. Disaster! The reading glasses are 100% useless. I cannot see nor read through them. The updated lense is NOT RIGHT and is making my eye worse. Now the drifting and inability to focus in that eye is somehow spreading to the other eye. When I attempted to make an appointment, I was refused, repeatedly by a very unfriendly receptionist who dithered on and on about whether I needed an exam or an office visit. I specifically requested an exam, repeatedly, however she refused over and over to make an appointment. Finally I demanded to speak to Dr Salmon and again was refused. Then she mislead Dr Salmon regarding the nature of the problem. She is an employee and he is responsible for her inappropriate behavior. DO NOT TRUST DR SALMON! DON'T RISK YOUR EYESIGHT! What a flake!. And apparently he knows how incompetent he is!!!! read more

Caring, professional, super patient and also rather fun for all family members from age 5 to nearer 50. We always rather enjoy our visits. Dr Salman's office has been a perfect fit for my on-going contact lens usage, was fast and thorough responding to an emergency situation once and has been beyond efficient and kind helping all of us adjust as we discovered my 5 yr old needed eye glasses to counter a lazy eye with early intervention that may save him from needing them when he is older. So far, I've had 5 eye exams in my life. I consider the one I had with Dr. Salman as the best one I've had! My buddy told me his optometrist used to work for the Navy and it sounded quite impressive! My glasses were stolen (thanks Oakland) when my car was broken into, just days before and I decided to check this place out. It feels like my eyes never really got the attention they needed, until now. I thank Dr. Salman for being so thorough and patient with my endless questions and he explained each and every step of the checkup. Dr. Salman is a kind and caring eye doctor. I had a eye emergency (actually scratched my cornea) and was unable to get an appt. with my regular eye doctor. Since I live in San Anselmo I called all the local eye doctors and was able to get an emergency appt. with Dr. Salman. They worked me in between appointments!
