Ugly Sweaters for the win!…read more 5K run for charity! Santa and boozy Kahlua hot chocolate too! The Kahlua Ugly Sweater Run was something I decided to do for charity and I raised a good amount for the One Warm Coat foundation back in December. Thanks to all my friends and fellow Yelpers who donated. You all rock. Sure, it was a chilly Saturday morning, but the lure of goofy sweaters, hot boozy drinks, Christmas music, giant holiday inflatables, and that jolly old fat man himself made it a no-brainer. Plenty of Christmas cheer, carolers along the course, monster size inflatables of candy canes/Santa/reindeer, "Best Of" contests, bouncy castle for the kids (yeah, I wanted in but would look like an idiot), fire pits, photo booth Kahlua van, giveaways, and doggies all dressed up in holiday swag. Plus, I was able to take a cool selfie with Santa-man himself. The course was well laid out as we ran along the old aircraft runways and tarmacs at the Aviator Sports Complex at Floyd Bennett Field. Plenty of helpful staff on hand. We had a beautiful sunny day to run and get our drink on. Plus, having a finisher medal handed to me for having this much fun? Totally solid. My only gripe is that they moved to this location at last minute, and it was a pain to get to. Next time they need to keep it closer to the city area such as Prospect Park, or Central Park, rather then out in no-man's land. Otherwise, the day was just perfect for a good three mile run. Compared to many of the other cities also holding this event where it was rainy and messy. NYC was blessed with an awesome day - because we rock! Ho-Ho-Ho!!!

You know I don't run. My knees and back would hate me more than they already do. But what I do…read morereally well is support those who do run. Let's face it... I just like yelling "PHILLLLLLLL" at the top of my lungs. If you don't run or if you have kiddies and/or doggies, this is the race for you! There was a bouncy castle that I threatened to jump into an launch some kids into orbit, there were puppers in cute costumes to pet, and for the adults there was spiked hot chocolate or coffee. The "Best" competition was fun. There were some truly interesting hand made sweaters. "Tinsel Tits" was robbed! Robbed I say! The location was changed this year so it was a bit out of the way. And don't trust Google Maps. You don't have to take two buses and a train. Just one bus and a train. The Aviator Sports Complex at Floyd Bennett Field, where the race was held, is pretty awesome. If you have kids and live in the area, it's great place to play in the hockey pee-wee teams. They were so tiny and cute! Unlike some of the other cities holding Ugly Sweater Runs, the weather was gorgeous. Great day, great people, great race.

Had it not been for Sierra B. and Yelp's offer of a comp'd participation, I probly would've been, well at 6am on a Sat....definitely asleep, but otherwise just vegging out and not living life to the fullest. I'm so grateful to have been a part of the urbanarhalon as it was a test of my endurance and a fun social event. Beforehand I rejoined back into my gym a week prior and trained like Caityln Jenner pre op. Mentally, I read as many correct running form articles I could get my hands on. I was so phsyched!!! After the fact, I threw up 3x's on the subway, having to get off and on at a few of the stops since motion made me nauseous. I finally got sicka bein sick and took a cab home. Felt like Caitlyn J. post op. It was ROUGH and I looked like shit. I couldn't feel my face at all. Worth it! I'd do it again!!! Getting to run around the bases right on the field was worth it alone!!!! Thanks Yelp for making my dreams come true one event at a time!!!

The Men's Health URBANATHLON was definitely a dope experience, I chose The Classic Race - 10.5 miles - 19 Obstacles lol Go Hard Or Go Home. The race was well put together extremely organized, with Hydration Stations & Motivation Fist Bumps throughout the entire Race. The 10.5 miles was harder then I thought, but it was very scenic, taking in all of Flushing Meadow Park & the opportunity to Soak in Citi Field while running up & down the stairs was breathtaking! *Queenz Finest* The Obstacles were ok, nothing special. Honestly they were weak! Almost Lame in a sense... I was looking forward to something more intense. I would of liked my upper body to be pushed just as hard, as my lower body! Yes Yes I Finished! Received a Bagel, Banana & a Metal at the finish line, How Cool is that? I want to thank yelp Sierra 4 putting me on & Men's Health 4 hosting a Dope URBANATHLON. This is a women's only race #womenruntheworld being the hashtag of the event and the girl power and support really gets you through the race! There are plenty of portapotties by the start/ corrals. Mile markers are clear, plenty of fluids on the route and awesome volunteers making the race a success. Now this is the first half marathon that I've run that involved two loops of the same route and man did it suck. Your first loop of Central Park is ok but the second time around man do the hills really make your legs burn and that mental game comes into play. All in all if you're looking for a hilly half marathon to really challenge yourself this is yours!

So here are the top ten reasons why you should participate in the Color run: 1. Big parking lot so you don't need to worry about whether you'll find a space. 2. T-shirt, two sticker tattoos, headband, wristband and free pack of color that comes with your registration pack 3. Emcee and DJ did a great job getting the crowd excited and riled up from the start of the event till the end of the event 4. If you're not a runner, you don't need to worry about being out of shape. Only 5% of the crowd ran. Everyone walked the 5k. 5. Color stations were fun and the volunteers did a great job getting color on you. They never socked me in the face with powder. 6. Water stations were great. Not really for drinking, but for throwing water at your friends. 7. All the free stuff from sponsors and vendors. Granola bars, ice cream, water, smoothies, yogurt, drinks, etc... 8. The run itself. Over 5k registered but the space was big enough that it didn't feel cramped. 9. The after party. The event staff, especially the Emcee did a remarkable job getting the crowd into it by queuing up EDM songs. 10. The Color!! They were very generous distributing color packs at the end of the event. Nothing like dropping a beat into a moshpit with hundreds of color packs launched in the air. Great job Color Run. Great job indeed. We will be back - Electric Run, here we come...

The vendors - free water and snacks. Music - ROCKS! Dj's are awesome and get you pumped for the race. "Turn down for what!!" The terrain - old airplane Tarmac. Not much scenery but the blue sky is beautiful. I would recommend this to the no pressure runners who aren't pressed to finish in record times. There is a celebration for all finishers!

Very nice and clean little park we found while running uptown during marathon training. What was a…read morelife saver here were the clean bathrooms open for the public! It's actually a community green space which is well maintained. The park is named after local community activist Yolanda García, and is a tribute to her planning and perseverance for affordable housing and parkland. There's a playground with equipment for kids to play on, lawns to relax on, bathrooms with water fountains, and walkways with benches to sit and relax. Open 8am-4pm daily.

This is a really great race. It's set up early and there are plenty of freebies and fun for runners…read moreand guest, alike. It's located in Morristown, NJ and the entire half starts on Ginty Field, going along the trails and through beautiful residential streets, all the while affording lovely views. There are plenty of motivation coming from the bystanders giving out Gatorade and water along the course at every mile. There were plenty of giveaways and I was able to receive a PT stretch before my run and a professional K Tape application that I was still wearing days later that has done wonders for my IT Band issues. With this race, you have an option to either run the full half (13.1 miles) or split it between two runners where one does 5 miles first and the other does the final 8 mile leg. I was lucky enough to be blessed with an extra bib and did the 5 mile first part. There was no way I would have been able to do any more than that since I did the BK Half the day before and my legs were screaming by the time I reached the finish line. There's music, festivities, families and plenty of nourishment after you sweat it out and even an award ceremony for the top finishers. The medals everyone receives are cute and most runners are in costume the entire time, dressed as their favourite superheroes/villains. At the end, they also award the best costume and I believe this year was a gentleman that came as Doc Oc from Spiderman. I had a great time. It's about an hour drive from NYC and I would suggest going with a group, getting there early and enjoying the whole experience from start to finish.

Ran the 2012 Superhero Half Marathon on May 16th and I had a blast. The course is challenging, but…read morefun. The two loops begin in Ginty Field in Morristown, cut through some neighborhoods and take you through the paved trails of Loantanka Park. Although it was warm (hit the 80s) a good portion of the run was shaded providing some much needed relief from the sun. Even if you do not like the course, the people running near you dressed head to toe in costumes is enough amusement for the 13.1 miles. There is nothing like get passed by a grown man in a Kickass costume. Here are my suggestions: -Carry water. Water stops were every 2 miles or so with Gatorade available at every other stop. I froze half my water bottle the night before and topped it off with cold water in the morning. This was key to cooling me down and keeping me hydrated as I ran. I also took advantage of most of the water stops. -Dress up. If you have family coming to watch you (especially small kids) have them dress up too. This is something I didn't do, but wished I had. Next year I am definitely running in costume and making sure all my family and friends are dressed in costume as well. -Train on hills. This course was TOUGH and had a hill that didn't seem so bad when you are only 3-4 miles in, however coming back around for the second loop around mile 11 was hard. I would definitely recommend some hill training for this. If you live in the Morristown area it shouldn't be a problem to find some killer hills to run on. -Get there early. I got to the start about an hour before and was able to find street parking not even 2 blocks away. It was extremely convenient and stress free. As you can probably tell, I loved this race and can't wait to run it again next year.

NYRR has a premium membership for an extra fee. It's twice of what a normal one is for me (I'm a…read moresenior). The plus was to have early access to registration (48 hours). It's a complete waste of money. Forget early access....races were sold out 3 hours after posted to the premium members. 3 Hours! That's means that nothing is available for the regular members.

New York Road Runners Five Stars for a huge fundraising…read moreorganization. Five for getting people of all ages out of their seats to exercise. Five for expert organizational skills to manage participants, employees, volunteers, and safety support staff including Medical and Police. OMG I can't give this organization enough credit for the hugest job in athletics. I personally attend races as a spectator. In the past I participated as my daughter and her friends cheerleading chairman. I like to say I am my daughters coach. I've been to races in all Five Boroughs. I've been to countless Marathons. My daughter ran many years and has run many races. She's got lots of Medals and ran two Marathon Races. So there you have it folks. When you race with NYRR you raise money for charities. This sport does cost. Look at the rewards. Free T-Shirts and cool promotion items abound. Water and Carbs provided for participants. Yes you better train before you race. It's great effort. Just remember how you're rewarded. Such a glorious sense of accomplishment when you reach the finish line. I feel it vicariously! I'm dedicating this review to my Yelp friend Phil H. Go online to check the dates ! Second! Buy the package! Different packages according your style with different prices. I recommend the package that is mail to you. So much easy and you don't have to do the long line. Third! Check the free samples before you do the race! After the race the lines are extremely long !!! The race starts inside the mets stadium! You can take pictures and spend a little time inside the stadium and on the field! After the mets stadium you will find the Different stations of colors! You can actually play with them ! Take pictures! Sit on the floor! At the end they are giving medals and more color powder! It's extremely fun ! You can go with your family! no matter the age ! Kids ! Seniors! It's a fun family activity! Extremely reccomend!!!

This is not a timed run, also I don't believe it was officially a 5k distance. But it's a fun…read morerun! So if you're looking to be timed accurately this race is not for you. Be warned you sometimes have people literally rolling on the floor in the color areas... which already has somewhat limited view due to all the color powder, so be careful and jump over them... I recommend bringing a bandana of sorts to cover your nose and mouth when running through the areas they throw the color powder... it tastes nasty... The coolest part of this race is running through Citifield... like on the field! you bet I #selfie during that part of the run.
