We made beer battered fish and chips with the fresh halibut we got

This is our go to fish market on Central Ave. Fair prices and fresh fish, shellfish, and some vegetables and shelf safe foods such as canned sauces, dry rice noodles, etc. A limited but good selection of South East Asian products. Don't expect anything fancy or wholefoods experience, this is a local, mom and pop type of fish market but great variety and freshness. Some people mentioned the "fishy smell" but come on, this is a fish market. That is unavoidable when these folks are cleaning and cutting the fish for you in-house even if the fish is super fresh. I got halibut, cod, and salmon steaks. Used the halibut for making beer battered fish and chips and froze the rest for later:) a must stop by when you are exploring Central Ave. Markets.

The freshness of the seafood here is something that keeps bringing me back. This is a Chinatown style fish market with some produce. What they stock is amazing because if you're looking for a quick way to make an inexpensive and healthy meal 555 is all you need. They run out of oysters fairly quickly and are at high demand here. So get here early if you are looking for a popular item. I can't get enough of their selection and service. Very nice and unpretentious place.

The fish selection is great: never frozen trout, rainbow trout, porgy, snapper, tile fish, and more.

This is my second review. First one wasn't good and unfortunately this one isn't much better…read more My husband stopped by looking for whole fish, which they happily had but it was larger than he wanted so he opted to buy me lunch since I work nearby. The issue is that the sandwiches sound delicious on the menu but the reality doesn't live up to my expectations. My husband order some spicy Mexican inspired fried catfish sandwich for himself and a fried scallop sandwich for me. The sandwiches presented well but both lacked flavor, salt & seasoning in general. Even the soups; one was supposed to be red lentils but looked mostly yellow lentil and again desperately needed salt for one and would have been improved with additional seasonings. Whoever made the manhattan clam chowder got the recipe correct. It was the only thing that was tasty without needing alteration. The owner is nice and after my first poor review offered to make me a replacement but I didn't take him up on the offer. If they only get it right while someone is watching over their shoulder, what's the point. It is NOT a cheap lunch so to be disappointed is a real bummer. Better to stick with the raw seafood items or some prepackaged items (hummus & great flatbreads).

Our hotel didn't have the tools we needed to prepare any of the gorgeous fresh fish in the counter but we loaded up on prepared foods and dried goods. The fruitti di mare was awesome, just like my Grandma used to make! The octopus salad was dynamite as well, all super fresh, and delicious. We snagged some caviar as well, made for a perfect picnic at our hotel. Everything is impeccably fresh, their prepared seafood salads are next level. Not only do they have an incredible array of fresh fish, but their shelves are also stocked with a thoughtful selection of dried goods, sauces, spices, and specialty items. So glad we stopped in and keep kicking out the awesome content Mark!
