The guy answered and said his "agent" would call me but he's on his way. Eventually an East Bay number called at 9:50pm, and said he'd be there in 30 mins. I asked how much the price would be and he said anywhere from $85 to $140. After waiting almost an hour and a half, he finally showed up at 11:10pm and told me my apt lock was "commercial" and the "driving fee" from the East Bay is $150 on its own and this lock is actually $270 -- but he'd take $180 on Zelle immediately. He then unlocked my door in about 8 seconds. Being that it was almost midnight and I'm a woman alone, I had no choice. I'm not sure why a "driving fee" would be relevant to a business that advertises itself as LOCAL. I could have called the plenty of other SF-based locksmiths and 1) not had to wait much longer than promised 2) not been pressured into a payment that was well over the price that was quoted.

Requested locksmith to my place. The locksmith who came gave me a quoted price once he saw the…read morelock. I said that price is ok for me and to proceed. He then 30 seconds later after accepting price tried to upcharge me by an additional $40. I asked why and he said "the lock is old". Then I was able to negotiate back down. He was unable to open the lock anyway and suggested replacing lock completely and said "this will cost a lot more" and further asked for service fee, which he tried to upcharge from quoted price as well. I then tried to confirm who he works with and he told me he doesn't know the name of the employer because he doesn't speak English well. Did not allow him to break the lock down and replace. Overall had a poor experience and quite uncomfortable, but he did get there quickly within about it 20 min as he promised.

I was requested that he pull the emergency lever on my garage door from the front, or access the button, before attempting to drill into the door we are not supposed to use and don't even have a key for. I told him kindly "I'm not paying that much. I have a friend who will come over and do it for $125 right now", in which he defensively stated "NO ONE WILL DO THAT FOR LESS THAN $390 on A WEEKEND!". I should've told him to leave then and there, I even offered him $20 for gas and the inconvenience to try and get him off my property. He stuck around and continued to gas light me. He never attempted garage access, went straight to "trying" to pick the lock, when I told him it was dead bolted the whole time. Huge language barrier. Long story short - he rips open my door with a pry bar and tells me I owe him $700. WHAT?!!!? I SAID absolutely not and I want you off my property. I asked for his BSIS license number, name...he refused. I kindly suggested he do so as it's required by CA law, yet he said "I don't have to tell you that". After refusing to name a boss, or company name he worked for since he was a "contractor", I suggested I call the police. He later told me that I was they jerked for "threatening to call the police ", I said I'm in healthcare and if I was treating one of your family members, wouldn't you wanna know my my name and freely be able to look up my license number? Well turns out he's not licensed based on BSIS website. He quoted me for $700 just for breaking my door. Let me repeat that he broke my door knobs and door, he wanted to replace my locks and I said absolutely not and just to get him off my property and out of there as I became increasingly uncomfortable and feeling unsafe, I told him I'd pay him half cash and half (his request) Cash App after telling him I would not pay the $700 for breaking my door open. I said I'll pay you half, he asked for $350 cash and $150.93 cash app totaling $500. He also informed me that I would receive a receipt after gathering my email. I never received such a receipt and that I texted him requesting for an itemized receipt as well as his license and name what a surprise he never got back to me this person essentially forced me into a corner on my own property and didn't listen to me, nor communicate effectively triggered by the term police. It was quite evident that this person is not licensed as a locksmith and he's not. I will be reporting this to the BBB, and possibly filing a police report. Oh, and due to my security camera, as it was all caught on camera along with audio, not smart.
