Cool place, definitely the largest manga selection that I have ever seen in the area! Everything was really nice and organized and clearly labelled. They have a lot more than books too, saw guitars, toys, puzzles, and there's also a buy back section as well to help incentivize you to come back. Was definitely fun to walk through. Expect to pay regular full price for the books, but they have a lot of unusual items (ex. I saw Britney Spears Monopoly Game). There are random 'mystery boxes' for example you can get 50 cds/dvds if you are a gambler or just curious to see what you end up with. The store itself looks like it just popped up in the middle of a giant empty parking lot, so there's no shortage of parking spots. read more

This store is very cool! It has so many mystery packs it's insane. They have mugs, backpacks, books, games, stuffed animals, candles, Disney themed items, universal themed items, puzzles, journals, history books, kids books, cartoon, anime, tshirts, socks, tote bags and more. They have so many items and many duplicate items so you can always get an item for your friends or family. They also have a return program so you can get credit toward items you give them so you can buy other books or whatever in the store read more

I was told it would take a couple of hours to get to my books, but wound up taking over 3 hours, and that was only when an employee inquired if he could help as I was milling about. As a book lover walking into this store was like peeking into heaven. Shelves full of books are far as the eye could see! At the front of the store there was the usual best sellers and new releases. Also they have a lot of cute home decor items that are book related. Cute signs, paper weights, welcome mats, etc. There's a good mix of new and used books, depending on what your looking for. The staff is very helpful but they won't hover or bother you while you're browsing, which was nice. They even have an impressive collection of retro games, going all the way back to the Atari which made my nerd heart sing with happiness. Lots of funko pop figurines. A good selection of comic books, graphic novels and manga. It's a well rounded store that should have something to please just about anyone! read more

Stopped by here to do some DVD, CD, and book BuyBack. The website says that you can fill up 3 totes to have reviewed. BUT when I got to the store, you are only allowed to fill one bin. (Due to the pandemic) I created an account which was pretty simple: Name, address and phone number. They gave me a claim ticket and I went #ditc. It took them about 45 minutes to text me that they were done. During that time, I found a couple of records to purchase. You can even sell your stuff there for cash or store credit. There's always something I want whenever I go in there. Being that there's a lot of second hand stuff there, the prices are good on a lot of the stuff they sell. They also have a lot of new stuff as well. 90% of everything of this store is amazing. Wonderful books, candles, stuffed animals, mugs... Oh the wonderful mugs... I have to many. I have to many books too but we won't discuss that. The staff is 90% friendly and knowledgeable. Mind you I have been in several second in Charles across this great nation. I've never had a problem at any one of them. But let's discuss one person, in the Washington Road Location. I don't know his name. So from here on out, I'm going to refer to him as Mr. Oak. Because not only does he have a stick wedged in his you know what, I'm pretty sure the entire oak tree is up there. Mr. Oak is a little on the thin side. A shaven head but he has a beard and mustache. So he's pretty recognizable. He's usually behind the sales desk as you come in to sell books back to 2nd and Charles. I have never had a pleasant conversation with him. But lets discuss Mr. Oak's behavior on this particular day of the penny a page sale. Now I get, Mr. Oak was probably stressed. It was packed in that store. That is something we expected. So today we take about two boxes of books to sell back because we've been cleaning the house out and we're about to buy more quite honestly. He tells us that it will be several hours. Understandable. We're on a bit of a time crunch though. This was legit, a quick to the store and back for this sale trip. So I ask him 'can you give us more of an estimated time' To which he replies in the same tone, 'as I said it will be several hours.' Ok, that's fine you don't know. A little rude but I'm not looking for coddling here. I just wanna sell a book. We might not have time though. So I looked at my brother who is with me and said to him, 'we're on a bit of a time crunch, I'm not sure we have time for this today.' Mind you, I'm not talking to Mr. Oak. At all. He decides to inject himself into a private conversation with his 'As I said, it will be several hours.' No one was talking to him. I ignored him and again speaking to the one I'm actually speaking to, ask my brother if he would prefer to just do this another day. To which Mr. Oak interjects into our PRIVATE conversation again to say 'I don't care when you pick it up so long as it's in twenty four hours and as I said, it'll be several hours, you can see you're not the first in line' Again, nobody asked him. I let him know I understood that but we live an hour away to which he interrupted me. I was about to tell him, I see you're busy we might just do this another day. But he raised his voice and informed me that wasn't his problem that it would be several hours. At which point I just smiled and said 'I think we'll do this another day.' To which he threw his paper down, threw up his hands, muttering something about wasting his time and walked away. There was no need for all that. Everyone else in this place was absolutely lovely and helpful. Mr. Oak. Whoever you are... I hope that you have the day that you deserve. I hope that every time you cook bacon, it burns. I hope that every morning when you get up you stub your little toe on the door jam. I hope that every time you open Netflix, it's buffering. I hope you never find the cold side of your pillow. I hope that every 30 minutes you become aware of your own blinking. I hope that your debit card never works at the gas station pump and you have to walk inside to pay. This bookstore can best be described as a "mix-up mash-up." I could've used just "mix-up" or just "mash-up" but then I wouldn't be doing justice to the business...so enjoy the hyphenated compounds. Picture this: Borders, Barnes and Noble, Walden Books, Hot Topic, Newbury Comics and Guitar Center. Now subtract coffee shop and add in used book store. Voila! You now have a good idea of what it's like to go to 2nd and Charles. They have a large variety of books, dvds, cds...both new and used. You can get games, stuffed animals, guitars, bumper stickers, incense, etc. It has a little something for everyone and you can get lost in there for hours. I've never sold books here but it seems to be a pretty streamlined process. The employees are friendly and helpful and the store is consistently organized, which is always a plus in my book...brief pause and rim shot for the pun...especially when it could be a cluster**** given the "used" component. I had a few boxes of books I was going to throw away but my wife told me to take them to 2nd & Charles. It pains me to admit it, but my wife was right. I came in and set the books on the counter intending to just donate them, but then the guy offered me money for them, of course I'm not going to turn down money. While I waited for them to figure out how much money they were going to give me I walked around touching stuff like I tell my son NOT to do every time we're anywhere. Boy oh boy, they have EVERYTHING. I'm not really a reader (I mean I know how, but I find it boring), but I love this book store. If I had to estimate how many books they have it would be in the ball park of about 7 billion. I started looking for obscure titles just to test them and they had all of em. They're humor section is legit. They call my number and tell me I can have X amount in store credit or X/2 in cash. Of course I take the store credit because it's double the money and momma didn't raise no dummy. They will buy anything off of you. Books, DVDs, video games, kids toys, etc. I walked in there intending to give them stuff and leave empty handed and I ended up leaving with a book written by David Spade, which is sure to be hilarious, a Coke, and a bunch of store credit that doesn't expire! What a day! They often have buy 5 get 5 deals, and they have a bin in the front with a bunch of free books. This idea of this place is great. However, it could definitely use a facelift. The bathrooms are disgusting. At least remodel those. The "bathroom cleaning sheet" on the back of the door was last marked December 18th. Today is the 29th. I'm praying it has been cleaned since the 18th but still...these are things that patrons notice! I love the business card bulletin board. The chairs have rips in the seats. I love how organized the place is...it makes it pretty easy to find what you are looking for IF you are there for a particular book and not just browsing. I wasn't expecting much when I pulled into the parking lot. The strip mall in which this store was located was mostly abandoned and there was no indication that this was any different from the Christian bookstores that are on the same street. But when I walked in and saw how huge it was, I realized that I had underestimated it. Tons of books, CDs, DVDs, videogames, Funko Pop figures, etc. I probably could have spent all day in here. I live this little place.This is more than just a book store...this is a imaginative wonderland. You walk in and yes there's books as far as the eye can see...but what else does the eye see??? There's video games, records (yes actual vinyls), toys, collectibles, and still so much more! And guess what...just guess... You can touch all of it! There's music instruments and I've heard several patrons just strumming along on them, and there's a bin of Lego pieces...have at it! Plenty of sitting and floor space if you want to flip through a few pages before purchasing...candy and drinks for sale if you become parched from the fun of your imagination lol. Because this is also a used book store you will find some great hidden treasures among the shelves if you take the time to look. Make sure you check back often as new old books are constantly added to the shelves, Oooooohhhh and before I forget when you check out bring your own book bag (they don't do bags except the reusable that you can purchase), they offer 3 free 2month subscription magazines of your choice, every 3 months the suggested magazines change out so at least go for that part lol read more

My family absolutely loves 2nd & Charles! I don't think you can find a better spot than this if you love books, video games, comic books, collectibles, board games, and such. The store is quite large, with a good variety of used books and everything else. We have a lot of fun just wandering the place, browsing at our own pace, and letting the kids find used books or comics they want to bring home. The trade-in program here is solid - they take anything noted above, as well as movies and records. We've found the trade-in value to be on par with any other store in the area, and the staff has always been friendly helpful. read more

Most of the merchandise is second-hand but I did see a pretty good selection of new overstocked books from the publishers. This place is pretty good for some Young Adult new classics (Roll of Thunder Hear My Heart Cry, The Westing Game, etc.) -- some of these paperbacks can be picked up for a little as $4 or so. The used prices seem kind of iffy sometimes, especially for the video games. For example, Xbox 360 Deus Ex: Human Revolution was being sold for $30.99 used, when new it is sold for $27.99 on Amazon... read more

I'm shocked how nicely organized and expansive a second hand bookshop could be. I do miss my BAM but this is almost just as good. They carry a lot of titles your kids will most likely need for class but if you have your heart set on a specific title, buying from Barnes & Noble will probably be a better bet. I do like spinning the roulette wheel and looking for any new books from favorite authors and if it's cheap enough, I usually take it with me on a flight and leave it for the next seat patron. I've found two new favorite authors by accident this way and passing it forward is always considerate. If you're looking to trade in your books, there's a very straight forward system. Grab the little baskets, fill our your info and shop around until your name gets called forward. I suggest taking the store credit personally 'cause you'll probably use it anyhow. read more

Where can you go to find vinyl, comic books, CD's, collectibles, t-shirts, posters, and more and still feel like you are in a massive bookstore? And not just any bookstore, but one that takes trade ins for either cash or store credit? Obviously, here. They sit just off Washington Road (behind Carrabba's). Before you rush in, be sure to check out the Free Book bin to the left of the doors. You never know what kind of treasure awaits within. Or, if you do crafts of any nature, that's free materials. To the right of the doors will be mobile shelves with $5 books. There are always great finds in there as well. When you first enter, you will see the station where trade ins are taken. To the right of that is where you will find the restrooms. If you are simple here to buy or browse, walk straight ahead and soak it all in. There is a guide on the end of the bookshelves so you know where to find certain genres. Music and movies will be to your immediate left though as will record players and gaming systems. If you look all the way to the back way, you will see a wall of books. Great spot to take a selfie. As you walk down the middle of the store, you will see bins with various books and great prices. Some include "School Reading", "Vampire Novels", and "Children's Books". If you are not up for an adventure, you can go to the trade in station and ask what they have (by author or title). There are some new titles and albums, but these are limited in availability. *Insider's Tip -They do not trade in textbooks. Rejoice, brick-and-mortar enthusiasts, because despite the dearth of tangible locations to purchase media there are still a few bastions of physicality left in this world. This being one of them. I could - and did - spend a few hours inside, rifling through Blu-ray discs and perusing bookshelves and ogling over the plethora of options available to those who have mostly shunned the new digital age. Want books? They have dozens of shelves, stocked to the top with titles new & old. The reading selection isn't limited to just novels, as they also sell comic books, graphic novels, rare books, magazines, etc. Want music? Although the selection isn't the most diverse they do stock plenty of albums on both CD and vinyl. Pricing is a bit high but, then, there aren't enough record stores in town to justify lowering those costs. Want movies? I spent a solid two hours combing over the Blu-ray section alone. Then they have tons of DVDs. And a clearance wall. There are literally thousands of titles and every film fan will absolutely find something to love. Want video games? I was able to buy "Clay Fighter", an old SNES game from my youth, for a mere $15. They have games available for nearly every system, new and old. Want merch? They have toys and guitars and musical oddities and all of the random assortments you used to find at Tower Records. This is a store for everyone, and if you somehow manage to leave empty-handed it'll be a minor miracle. And the staff is awesome, too. Any place that sells vinyl records is cool with me considering I have 1,000's of them. Went here for a book and a gift card for a friend of mine,who i didn't know until recently she reads still. As i walked in the store you can smell books. Books have a certain paper smell that you dont forget,not a bad one just a smell.I walked around for awhile be for making my dash for the items I was looking for,saw the vinyl,bit pricey but the had some.The book selection is really not bad which will have me reading again. So many selection and varieties and magazines also.As i picked out the gift card the sale associate asked me if I needed help and just said I think i'm done. I used to shop here quit a bit when I lived in Augusta and this was the first time I had returned in 2 years or so. All I can say is wow! In the past I would have given this store a solid 4/5, but it is definitely worth 5/5 today. The way they have re-organized the store (particularly the front half) is wonderful. Before there were sections, like the DVDs and music, that felt cluttered. With the re-organization everything felt spacious. The one area I wish 2nd and Charles would expand is their rare books and special items section. I am a book buff and I am always looking out for good signed books for myself or for a gift. Before entering, be sure to stop by the "free books" rack at the front of the store. Believe it or not, I've found a few classics hiding in those rows of novels! Can't pass up a free read! The books inside are organized based on literature type and are easy to identify based on the maps listed on each isle. At the front of the store is a section with records as well as other neat electronics. There is also an area at the front for selling/exchanging books that is quick and easy to use. I do not believe the trade in value is excellent compared to other book stores in the state and region; however, getting rid of old, dusty books has never been easier! I traded in about 20 excellent condition classics for a $20 credit...then turned around and bought a few new ones, of course. The prices for gently used books are insanely cheap. I always find what I am looking for and if they do not have the title the friendly staff are more than happy to order it for me. Asking me to trial three magazines of my choice during checkout gets old, but I understand they are required to do so. Also love that they do not give out plastic bags and, rather, give you your book and receipt to carry out with you. Environmentally conscious is a plus! I'm always looking for new reads and love taking suggestions, but hate purchasing only to find out I don't like a book, and often the library may not have what I'm looking for in stock. This place smells and looks like Lowe's. No personality, totally sterile. They have a decent selection of books, I have to admit. But the front of the store looks like a poor man's Best Buy with Goodwill display cases. The first time I went there was a security guard at the front. At a used book store? Seriously? And there are security cameras and televisions showing live surveillance all over the place. Near the checkout there's a display made out of anti-theft tags. It's almost as if 2nd&C is making a big joke out of distrusting/disliking their customers. Certainly not a welcoming environment. Awful. I miss Books a Million. Here's the good, the bad & the ugly about the vinyl section at this store. The Good: Large eclectic selection of new & used records. The Bad: They have the vinyl crammed into their limited bins making it impossible to flip through the records. I'm not exaggerating here, every single bin was overstuffed with vinyl. You had to pull out stacks of records to create enough room to see the stuff! The Ugly: The overstuffing of the bins has caused new sealed records to become unsealed. The jackets are getting destroyed and the corners dog eared. Personally, I have a hard time paying $34.99 for a new sealed record that looks like your kid sat on it. read more

I definitely go here before I go to any "Big Box" Bookstore to buy a book that isn't 100% brand new. I like to frequent local booksellers (the one or two around here are very small) but sometimes they don't have what I need, it isn't a new product, and I can't wait on them to order for me. Cue up 2nd & Charles. This is a MASSIVE used goods store. Primarily used books but also CDs, movies, video games, comics, vinyl, instruments, and new things like t-shirts, stickers, random closeout items, and literally various and sundry items depending on the time of year. I regularly purchase vinyl and comic books here; I purchase books when they have what I am looking for; I have purchased Christmas Cards and small gift items there. Pretty much they have everything I am looking for. They don't use bags when you purchase items, you must either buy a bag there or just carry out your items. I have NEVER had a problem just carrying out in my hands. If I know I might be going in for a lot of things (when they have comic book sales or vinyl sales) I just bring my own bag. No problem. ONE DOWNSIDE: I have tried to sell books here and they NEVER want what I am trying to sell. They always tell me it is "too popular and we're saturated" or "we don't take that kind of item." No matter what it has been that I've tried to sell. I always sell back to the small, local bookstores for this reason. read more

We stop at 2nd & Charles a lot. They have a great selection of books and toys as well as games and movies. My kids love the comic book section and Vinyl Pops selection. I would rate them higher but on several occasions I have tried to sell my very lightly used books, including the entire set of "A Song of Ice and Fire" which they only wanted to give me a few bucks for. I paid almost $60 for the set, which they want to pay me $4 for and then sell for $40. It's kind of a rip-off. But besides selling your books used on Amazon.com you don't have many options. So 2nd and Charles is interesting. As someone who grew up in the Augusta area, I don't think this place came into existence until I had already moved. But for the past few years, I've been hearing tons about this store. Always positive things, always things like: "You can find anything at 2nd and Charles!" "I got this book at 2nd and Charles... and this one... and this one..." So I was pretty curious about it, and decided to venture out before I went back to Atlanta last weekend. After what I'd heard about it, I expected it to be the sort of bookstore that dots Atlanta here and there: dark, cramped floor to ceiling with books, small and cozy, drenched in that delicious book smell. Nope. Not one bit. I hate to use this word, but it was so... corporate. It reminded me of a mix of the Book Nook-meets-McKays- meets-a-big-chain bookstore. Everything is very minimalist, very organized, very ABCD. And I love the crazy, haphazard hole-in-the-wall bookstores that are here in Atlanta. Most of them are a hybrid of antique stores/thrift stores. But I digress... After I got over the initial surprise of it being brightly-lit and clean, it dawned on me why this place just wasn't initially clicking with me: it doesn't have any soul. Which is what I love about used bookstores, and which is why I always squirmed when I went to big chains. Despite its squeaky clean hollowness, this place does have a large selection of books. Cookbooks, fantasy, horror, gardening, even some new books. AND GRAPHIC NOVELS. I put that in all caps because I found two I've been searching for (Blankets and Black Hole, even though I'm sure you're not interested) for a couple of weeks, and I was going to buy on Amazon. This place also has board games in good condition, which was a nice touch as well. The record selection is decent, and there's a mix of new and used, both in the main selection and branching off on their own. I even found a few gems among the cheap bins. All in all, this place has a myriad of books, games, movies, and music to entertain and the selection and prices are pretty decent. The free bins out in the front also reminded me of McKays, and I snatched up a Dean Koontz book I've been meaning to read. read more
