I somehow didn't realize this was a bookstore after passing by it several times. When I finally took the time to check it out, I was pleasantly surprised to realize it was decently-sized and sold both used and new books - along with other entertainment items. I got lucky the first couple times with finding some old R.L. Stine and Sweet Valley High books I was interested in at a bargain price, but I haven't been so lucky the last few times I've stopped in.

What a great experience...walking in you find something for everyone and I stress everyone. From a great selection of books with a lot of Great Sales....to old school albums to c.ds to music instruments. A great kids selection of books and learning toys

I love this brand new book store. Plus they sell old school video game just like Disc Replay. They even sell old school records. Great selections too. The reason why I give this store 4 stars because they don't have free wifi, and a cafe coffee shop. I believe this store should get a coffee shop inside this store. I always go to Barnes & Noble in Orland Park or Oakbrook Mall or Bolingbrook or Evanston or Old Orchard Center Mall or Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills Illinois or Valparaiso Indiana. Other wise I love 2nd Charles as my 2nd favorite book store. I do recommend. I'm glad it's close to my house but I will still continue on traveling to Chicagoland area to go to Barnes & Noble where they have cafe inside the store. I will come back to 2nd & Charles every once in the while. I do recommend anyone to come check it out. Check out service is outstanding too. They are green company so bring your own bag or be prepared to buy a reusable one for 99 cents!

What kind of pricing is this?

Bought a beautiful vintage Philips turntable from Illiana Music listed on Reverb. This was at the…read moreend of February, 2020. The turntable arrived a later... ..but was completely destroyed, because the heavily weighted platter had not been secured, was easily able to lift off the half inch tall spindle, and acted as a wrecking ball to demolish the tone arm, snapped off the tone arm rest, cracked the stylus, broke off the needle, inflicted massive gauges in the top platform off the turntable, and was able to damage mechanical components to the point of rendering it a total loss. My loss of well over $100 was not great.. ...but much more sad was that a beautiful, 50 year old piece of classic hi-fi history had survived graciously for decades.. ...only to be senselessly demolished because of a simple lack of effort (and respect) to pack securely. All turntables have a provision to allow you to lock the springs, remove the platter and place it under the cabinet to prevent this damage. Very simple and takes all of 2 minutes. The shipping box had no damage... ..it's just that during handling, if not held perfectly still at all times, the platter will lift and freely bounce around inside the dust cover... ..and the platter is nearly 75% of the entire turntable's weigh and will easily bulldoze anything it can reach... ..and it certainly did just that. I wrote Illiana Music about the total destruction immediately, then several more times with no response. In May (3 months later) I finally received a response that the owner had a death in the family and someone else had been handling selling and shipping. As much as I can relate to loss of family, Illiana Music had no problem taking my money but not taken responsibility for their neglect and failure to deliver what I paid for... ..have they made any effort to compensate my total loss of money I gave them. I've written twice since, it is now going on 4 months, no further response and I've lost well over $100.. due to Illiana Music's complete negligence, zero customer service, zero responsibility for losses because of their poor service, and totally ignoring my communication. Hate to say it but.... WHATEVER YOU DO, ***STAY AWAY FROM ILLIANA MUSIC... FAR AWAY!***

I stumbled upon this record shop by accident last week (right by the Lansing airport) and was kind…read moreof taken aback. I have no idea how long they've been in business, but this place is a must considering how few record shops there are in the south suburbs. They have an extensive selection of LPs as well as used audio equipment. I had my eye on a few uncommon (but not super-rare) records and found them within minutes. Unfortunately, they were all $10 each, which is higher than I've seen anywhere else. I'm not an expert on record stores, so maybe that's not crazy, but I was a little shocked how many records were in the $7.50 to $10 range given their conditions. (There are also $3 and $5 records, but not as many.) $6 each for CDs is also pretty insane. So I'm docking them one star in that regard. Part of the charm of a record store is the crusty employees who are more than willing to give their opinion on what you listen to, regardless of if you've asked for it. Rest assured, the lady working there was pleased to tell me she hated one of my favorite bands. That ticked me off, but she does know her stuff and happily offered some suggestions of bands I might like that I've never heard of.

We could forgive the time on Google saying 11:00 AM when the sign on the door said they open at noon on Sundays. We went and killed some time, had some lunch. We finished eating and came back at 12:30... the store was still closed. Of course, when we went back to the car and were driving off and happened to pass the store only a minute later, THEN we see an employee coming out of the now unlocked door to set something up out front. We can only assume they had to have seen us trying the door moments before and just didn't care. It's not a difficult thing to open your doors when you say you're going to be open. It is actually one of the critical elements when running a business. We even gave them an extra 30 minutes so we weren't busting the doors down. It's not like opening at noon on a Sunday is the crack of dawn. It can't possibly be that difficult.

For the younger thrifters, the clothing available will most likely not appeal to you, unless you're into reconstruction and are merely shopping for fabric/print. The children's clothes are plentiful, most are dated, all are clean. I never buy second hand shoes, so I cannot opine on that. They sell BETA tapes, a few CDs, some vinyl that nobody would want. There is a good selection of books, I got a hard cover Harry Potter with no dust jacket for a buck. Beware when buying clothing, they sell "boutique" items which are priced differently and not marked all that clearly. This store benefits Highland Christian School,it is cliquey (I know, right?? See below.) and Christian music is piped in through the loudspeakers. Cliquey, while checking out, the owner/manager was picking through my purchases telling the woman behind me who donated this, and "oh, little Madison wore this to her birthday party." It was a bit creepy.

I wanted to purchase a display item on a Tuesday and they told me they could not sell it until the following Monday at 10:00 AM. I said I really wanted it, it was a 1-of-a-kind item I had been looking for for years. Still NO. So being a Christian store I trusted that they would not sell it if that is their policy. I waited outside the door Monday before 10:00 AM and it wasn't in the store. The same lady who told me I could not buy it checked in the back and said someone had "accidentally" sold it before they were supposed to. Very bad business. I was waiting almost a whole week and took the morning off from work to be there at 10:00 AM Monday.

That's mostly because the prices are terrible--worse than eBay and Facebook marketplace scalpers. Case in point: there's a pokemon illustrated set that just came out. It's $17. You can still get lucky at retailers and it'll be restocked. Here, just 2 days after launch, they're selling for $50. Just nuts. I guess it's clear this isn't a "card shop," it's a scalpers storefront. Don't go here looking for Lorcana--guessing the margins are too low. Except for their singles, which they sell for $2-4....crazy pricing for Lorcana. Anyways, i won't be back. Will have to continue my search for a card shop that's ethical and somewhat reasonable. --------- Edit in response to business reply: 1) i agree conversation could go a long way. But when your pricing on a brand new Pokémon set (which doesn't have a set market yet) is already 3x MSRP, what productive conversation can happen? It's just a straight up gouge. I'm not naive to expect to get everything at MSRP, but i think 3x markup 2 days post launch is unreasonable. 2) i did ask about Lorcana. I was told you "don't carry much" and "didn't have any right now." 3) you seem to be implying that you're aware prices are high and can then be negotiated lower. If that's how you want to do it that's your prerogative, just understand that's offputting for new customers. It's hard to want to establish a relationship and have a conversation when the first impression is being taken advantage of. And when your response to pricing questions is "well the hobby is thriving!" I don't think that's off base.
