Regretfully, I have been a customer at Second Ave too many times. I was very excited to begin mountain biking and road biking, and was treated poorly on multiple occasions. The employees are incredibly rude, snobby, and inattentive. If you are new to the biking world and have questions, they won't give you the time of day. One time we went in to Second Ave on a Sunday, as Mountain Bike Specialists was closed, to ask about fraying road tires on a new bike. It took over twenty minutes before an employee would even talk to us, The employee was bothered we were even asking about it, and did nothing to help. We took the bike in to Mountain Bike Specialists the following day, where we had purchased the bike, and they replaced the tires for no charge. Too many bad experiences with Second Ave employees. Fantastic experience here. Was in town for a week. Rented a mountain bike one day, and wanted to do a long road bike ride another. They had a great selection for all types, and took time to pick out the best bike for a long, hard road bike ride up over some mountain passes. They were extremely patient and helpful with all my questions and gave suggestions for cold weather riding. And when I got a flat tire out on the road, they offered to come and pick me up or bring me a pump, as I was having trouble filling the spare tube. I ended up fixing it on the road and not needing assistance, but after their willingness to help me out before the ride as well as ON my ride, I will definitely go back to them when I return to Durango. They are all cyclists and riders as well, so they practice what they preach. Good, knowledgeable, passionate, caring people. read more

I found 2nd Ave to be a great shop. They have high end rental bikes and a friendly, knowledgeable staff that are solid ambassadors for Durango's trails. Huge selection of softgoods as well. Overall, a rad bike shop in a rad bike town. read more

I took my low-end and ancient bike in for a derailleur tune on the Friday of IHBC weekend--so--busy shop. The bike tech dropped what he was doing, spent 10 minutes with my bike, and had me happy and out the door. I totally expected to drop it off and pick it up in a week. My brother and I were in town from CA & WA for a three day enduro ride throughout the area with some friends and decided to come in a day early to hit some of the famous Durango trails on mountain bikes. After some quick research, called 2nd Ave and rented two top shelf bikes for our planned ride from Kennebec pass to town. Problem was, we wouldn't be able to get to the store to pick up the bikes before closing due to our arrival time, and our shuttle was scheduled the next morning before they opened.... Unbelievably, the guy I explained the issue to (can't remember his name) said "no worries, someone will just wait until you get here"... What? Seriously? Someone will wait at the store for an hour to get us our bikes? Not where I come from... Unfortunately, we rolled up to the store a few minutes before 7:00 and nobody home. Bummer. Now I'm not too happy that we have to cancel our shuttle and show up at 9:00 the next morning and figure something out. Long story short, when we dropped in a few minutes before they opened the next morning, Travis was super apologetic and between him and Will, they got it straightened out and took good care of us. Bottom line - we got our ride in (way harder than we expected btw) due to these guys taking customer service very seriously. This is a beautiful shop with a big selection of bikes and the most knowledgeable sales people I've ever spoken to. I sure wish there was a shop like this where I live. Strongly recommend. read more

Excellent experience. We were in Durango December 27-29 - a super busy time at Purgatory. There was very little inventory, and the staff at Second Avenue Sports was patient and helpful in making sure my two kids got what they needed. We arrived at the store around 6:30 p.m. and waited about a half hour for skiers to turn in their equipment at the end of the day. Staff could see that customers were anxious to get skis b/c of super low inventory. The staff was friendly and helpful -- didn't get annoyed with our above average questions relating to getting two sets of equipment. This store was recommended to us from Ski Barn b/c they had low inventory too. read more

Wow. We came in on s Sunday with 2 bikes. One with a broken derailleur and one with worn brakes. We expected to drop them for a few days but they fixed them on the spot in 30 min. So awesome. The sales people were great while we were browsing. An awesome experience way beyond expectations. read more

This team is knowledgeable and professional and can speak respectfully to a novice biker to explain the basics, as well as go wheel to wheel with the most professional of cyclists. Recently they just dialed in my sweetie's mountain bike for a fabulous tune up and patiently explained all the options to me. Prior to that, they took time to add accessories to my townie cruiser bike. Love the new shop and all it has to offer with this knowledgeable team always at the ready! These guys (and gals) are great. Professional yet friendly service and excellent knowledge of gear without the arrogant attitude that you will find at many other durango sports shops. They lack the basic fundalmentals of operating a business. They have horrible customer service. There seems to be a lot of people working their or hanging out I couldn't tell the differnce. Nobody greeted us when we walked in and seemed annoyed by our questions. We went in to their store to look for new bikes for our family but apparantly they only care about the "regulars". The good news is that there are several other bike/ski shops in Durango. We bought four bikes from Hassle Free Sports and felt appreciated just because we walked in. Too-bad- so sad for 2nd ave with 2nd rate service . read more

These guys were great. I rented two of their higher end-ish bikes for an annual biking trip and was more than pleased with the bikes and the service that Second Avenue provided. The next time I'm in Durango I'll be going straight to these guys. The bikes were solid, worked perfectly and were in great shape. It wasn't even like riding a rental, but more like riding my own bike which was great. The guys in the shop were thorough in fitting us on the bikes and giving us pointers on where to have fun riding in the area. Thanks, Second Avenue!! read more

I thought it would take a radical miracle to get my bike in working order, but Brendan took some time out of his gnarly day to help me out. after multiple bad experiences, I know never to give these guys business again. don't ever rent anything here, don't bring anything in for maintenance, and don't even try to ask them questions. bad attitudes, lack of attention to details (including basic safety measures), and bad prices. why you should not rent anything here: first off, called in to make a rental reservation- the guy on the phone tells me to hang up and book online- whatever. booked online and so they call to leave a VM saying i have to call them back to finalize booking... so i call to finalize booking and the guy that answers acts like i'm stupid for calling in for this- he says, "just come in tomorrow and we'll take care of it." i go in there the next day to pick up my rental and they say its not ready because i didn't call in!!! WTF? so it takes another 15 minute wait for them to get a bike out, and a simple question on what pedals i wanted leads to a 5 minute diatribe of why i am so stupid for asking about these pedals- FYI Mr. Blonde Dreadlocks- you can be informative without being so condescending. after this diatribe, he gives the bike over for a test drive and after riding 5 feet i quickly realize he didn't even latch the front tire on the fork! so clearly, i will never be back to rent anything here. bad attitudes, lack of basic safety protocol- complete lack of communication- how are you still in business? why you shouldn't get any kind of maintenance done here: back to the poor attitudes- both times i brought them business for simple bike maintenance they have gone out of their way to make me feel stupid. don't ask them anything, or they will take the opportunity to condescend. i'm not a professional, and i didn't spend $5k on one of your new bikes, i get it. this doesn't mean that i don't know at least a little about what i'm talking about after biking for 20+ years. all i wanted was a derailleur tune up and they still took any opportunity presented to bash me and my bike. second experience was trying to get my rear shock rebuilt and basically getting laughed out of the store because this shock is "so old." it is 5 years old and they act like it's stone age equipment. i don't need your bad attitudes and i won't be back for any kind of parts of service. i wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. so in short, i would not even consider this place for anything. i shouldn't have given them a second chance after the first bad experience, and they've proved time and again that they don't need my business. take your money somewhere that it's welcome, because there's plenty of options in Durango and they definitely don't need you around bothering them with business. get over yourselves, 2nd Ave Sports. you're not that great. read more

Came into town and needed some stuff for the bike, so we hit up this place based on yelp reviews. The guy (with a mustache) that initially helped us was great!! Very nice and engaging. Unfortunately, one of the things we purchased was not a correct fit. The first guy that helped us told us that it was the correct part. This mistake has been made by other bike shops in the past. No biggie. So, when trying to return this part the next day a guy with black hair helped us. He couldn't have been a bigger a$$. In a very condescending manner he told us it would have been nice if we would have known the correct part in the first place (while he stuffed food into his face at the register). He threw the part down on the counter in disgust and refunded the part. Yes, working in a tourist trap of a town does suck, I know! But, he could have chose a better way to handle a situation. Would have easily given this store 5 stars if it weren't for this pr$$k. read more
