Not a big size market compare to others in some bigger cities, but it has a lot of the things that you can think of from fresh produce to bakeries and hot food, coffee, wine shop, and maple syrup, taro cards, handmade crafts, fresh cut juicing greens, local honey, and more. Outstanding date "night" with my wife; her plan is to scope the entire market, and then make an outstanding lunch selection. Many traditional and ethnic choices. Kudos to pastry and bread vendors - she choices. Post Christmas clients are in a great mood. Suggestion: try the Borsch.... the name also refers to a variety of other sour soups, including those made with sorrel or cabbage, and can be served hot or cold, with or without meat, and is often garnished with sour cream and dill. read more

We loved seeing all of the booths and the different options and variety they offered from honey sticks stands to Asian, Mediterranean & Mexican cuisine the diversity is really prominent. The different vendors are always so sweet and informative and the place feels relaxed and welcoming. This was a fun stop on a dreary rainy day. I'm not familiar with Dayton and have been wanting to explore more since I now have family in the area. The market has local goods, mostly food items (baked goods, spices/tea/coffee:jam, honey, meat and some produce) with a few shops. There are several lunch spots; we had (I think) Turkish and split an order of stuffed eggplant. It was delicious! We picked up some baked goods for later and I snagged local honey and can't resist buying soap. This isn't really a farmers market, although some produce was available. I would definitely return. The vendors are friendly and it on a weekday, it was really laid back and not too packed. read more

I love the vibe and atmosphere at this market. You can come and shop locally or to meet up with friends for a bite to eat. Local vendors offer a wide variety of produce, breads, handcrafted items and much more and are always up for a nice chat. Friendly food vendors offer international cuisine and you can find everything from vegan, to Mexican, to Greek etc. Seating is sometimes hard to find at the market, especially during morning hours. Fun locally made crafts. The best crafty booths were the pottery & homemade glass art. The jewelry booth with recycled jewelry was also very cool with good prices. Tasty local produce: check out the maple syrup & pound cake booths! Also some amazing pastries and bread! Restaurants to try: the crepes, Mexican food (tamales were amazing), & the New Zealand meat pies (yum!). What to Skip: Asian/Thai food -- our party had 3 meals there and each one was gross: chicken fried rice was dry and crunchy, bao fried chicken sandwich took 35 mins to make & had NO flavor (how do you mess up fried chicken?), and teriyaki chicken meal was just stringy chicken with sauce dribbled but just mediocre). Their kimchi tasted like it had been cooked and then frozen before defrosting (looked like when dogs regurgitate grass/flowers they've chewed). So gross. Even the egg rolls were gummy and flavorless. Most vendors over the age of 16 were friendly and open to engaging with customers. The younger vendors were mostly on their phones not making eye contact or even greeting customers. read more

My wife and her parents came here once while I was on travel. Based upon her description and the things I had read online, I was very interested in coming here. I am not a great cook or a foodie but things here were attractive to me to see. Stalls set up by local artists, local produce, etc. The only downside of our trip today was that being winter time, the farmers market was not open. We will have to save that for next time. Either way, we bought some local milk, gourmet popcorn, cheese curds, cookies, and lunch. Honestly it's not as a big of an establishment as I expected but the quality of the products and the people was high. We will be back again. read more

Hand made wooden objects Local artisan pottery Bulk herbs, nuts & such Fresh rabbit and other meats. Lots of local and regional produce. Gifts galore. Artisan oils. And probably a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting. Some Saturdays you can meet the stars of Gem City Rollers, Dayton's motor scooter club. Weekends feature live local music. Such a lovely addition to Dayton. If you love Farmer's Markets, you're going to love 2nd Street Market. It's basically a farmer's market - but indoors and year-round. Walkways were wide enough to not be too crowded (even during a holiday event), and it's such a cute little spot. PROS: -Parking. EVERYWHERE. The entire building is long - and surrounded in parking. There are an insane amount of exits in this building (somewhere between 4 and 8), so no matter where you park, there's an entrance. Most of the entrances do require stairs, though, unless you use the main ones. It makes it so easy to hop in, grab what you need, and leave. -Everything is signed and designed for easy viewing. You aren't going to see things from across the building, but if you walk down the building (one hallway), you'll easily pick out what you're looking for. -Good variety of stuff. There's fresh produce, crafts, body products, furniture, gifts, and then lots of food. They've put all of the food providers together in the center of the building, so it makes it easier to just-shop or just-eat. The sellers themselves are pretty varied too - just like a farmer's market. Lots of gluten-free food options as well as pet items, crafts, bath stuff, chocolate treats, regular food, and more. It's a nice variety! -There are four-person and two-person tables. There are a few multi-people tables as well. You can grab some of the food from the food vendors and sit down and enjoy some food with others. It makes it a nice "destination" place for eating when you have multiple people in your party who have different food preferences. -The coffee at Caffeine Carl was delicious. I'm 90% sure I need to come back and get a lot more of this. CONS: -Bathrooms are definitely on the "last resort" type of side. They're not *dirty*, but they definitely haven't been updated in a long, long time. One of the stalls in the women's restroom didn't have a door - just a shower curtain. Bathrooms are clean though. read more

Ate here last week for the first time. Tara's. Super good! Italian Beef on a hoagy bun baked at the Market. Beef was shredded, lean and tender. Au jus was just enough! Ingredients fresh and really good. Accompanied by their house made pasta salad. Definitely worth a return trip to try the other Italian food items on the menu. Price was good and the Second Street Market is clearly a gem for downtown Dayton. read more

I love 2nd Street Market. It's my favorite place to be on Saturday mornings when I'm in Dayton. It's comfortable and warm and friendly. I come here for both my regular staples - farm fresh eggs, Greek yogurt, spices, fresh mushrooms, sweet potato pie. . . But also for the eclectic food vendors. There's no where else I can take my family and have choices of Columbian, Thai, Greek, crepes, meat pies, salads, soups and Popsicles! Even the crafty dealers are fun to visit and shop for gifts. I've also heard some great musicians perform here. I would give it four and a half stars if I could because I love the vendors so much. But it's not five stars because I've been to a lot of farmers markets in other cities and I wish 2nd Street was bigger, with more seating and that Dayton could support them being open more days. read more

LOVE this market, a true gem in Dayton's crown!! I come here so rarely since moving to the Springfield area (and it's NOT that far at ALL...!!) and always promise myself to make it more of a habit... As much as I wish that this place would be open more days/have later hours (like its power house "cousin" in Columbus, North Market) I'm sure there have been plenty of studies done, and the limited hours might (??) just help keep it busy and hopping with activity, as it definitely was on a recent Saturday morning visit. TONS of creative, interesting dining options, with both breakfast and lunch choices available at most at 11am. Great baked goods, meats/farm-fresh goods, beautiful flowers, abundant produce, beer, wine, and "spirits," and all the homemade "knick-knacks" you could possibly dream of possessing...!! Live music played in the background last Saturday, and there is always SOMETHING interesting going on here, usually showcasing local/homegrown talent. BUSYBUSYBUSY, so get there early, expect mostly manageable crowds, and if you're lucky like I was, relatively easy to find parking on-site. Note to self (and others!!) There are also artisan breads and other baked goods. A variety of food choices from the restaurants including fresh-brewed organic coffee. Desserts by Anne has the most delicious cake I've ever tasted. KJB Farms sells antibiotic/hormone -free pork that tastes great. The annual Ohio Wine Festival is a must-go-to. Plenty of free parking. Bar & grill in adjacent building. Bottom line: Support local farmers and artists. Get great deals on groceries. Sample a variety of food. Buy art, coffee, food, wine, clothing, pottery, flowers, etc. Bring cash and a bag. read more

Thai and Cheeky Meat Pies are awesome! I've been here probably about 15 times or so over the last 3 years. It's really nice on Saturday mornings. You can take the girlfriend and walk her around, or you can go stagging and girl watching, because they're there. I like the food there the best. A lot of different venues for food: -Milk! (You can buy real milk) -Pickled stuff! (You can buy sauerkraut and kimchi. Kimchi's awesome) -Thai food! (Really good Thai food) -Meat pies! (Like Hot Pockets on crack!) -Fruit/veggies! I'd probably give this a 3.5 close to 4 star if I could. The 2nd St. Market is a cute little market in the Dayton area. There are a variety of vendors from crafty people to local area farmers. There are bakers and alpaca clothiers. There is a nice variety of food-stuffs to be purchased at eaten immediately! Hint Hint.... The Market is a bit on the smallish side so it probably won't take you too long to travel through. Saturday is their big day when all the vendors are present. The Market runs Thurs-Sat, but often the vendors don't see a big draw on Thur so they don't pay the booth rental fee and come on that day. Make sure when you do visit that you go all the way to both ends of the building. Some of the weekend-only vendors are placed away from the hustle & bustle of the main center. You don't want to miss these either. This summer they had a fabulous Artist who would create caricatures. There was a lady who sold beautiful hand-made jewelry and some other fun stuff too. I felt bad for these vendors because most of the masses didn't make it all the way to the end to check out their "wares". If you're in the area, you should go to this market. It is a nice outing and a great thing for the Dayton region to build upon. It ain't no West Side Market, but it is Dayton's 2nd St. Market, so go, buy, eat, enjoy! read more

The 2nd Street Market is one of the most underrated places in Dayton. It's an old train depot that has been turned into the market. Apparently you can still find writing on the walls from soldiers as they went off to war. I went for the first time on a Thursday. We talked w/ Stephen at the coffee shop Caffeine. He's got some great organic, free trade coffee and he let us sample the different brews. We got bread and giant soft pretzels at Rahn's breads, and a gyro at Azra's. It was hard to pick what to eat, so we'll be going back for more. In the summer the entire street our front is shut down and is turned into a farmer's market. Saturdays are the most active time, with up to 30 additional vendors setting up shop. Unfortunately not every vendor accepts credit card, so bring cash. There is a National City ATM onsite. read more

The Market is a great place to shop and dine on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Weekdays are less crowded, but there are a few more vendors on Saturday and lots of samples. You'll always feel welcome, newbie or regular, but once you're a regular, the vendors will know your name, or at least your favorites, and help you with ease. The retail selections vary greatly, but my favorites are the foods. You can get all the necessities from the Spice Rack, fresh baked bread from Rahn's, European cookies from Azra's, organic tea from Caffeine, homemade mixes from All Mixed Up, locally raised meats, handcrafted cheese, fresh produce, and so much more. While you're there, be sure to eat! For breakfast on Saturday, Baan Thai Noi has an awesome Thai omelet and Annie's breakfast sandwiches are simply perfect. Azra makes this delicious gyro with feta for lunch that I love. Black Rooster's pasta is made to order and always satisfies that carb craving. read more

Although not very big, you have to love this place for the local food, free wifi, and friendly atmosphere. On Thursdays and Fridays, there are mostly just food stalls. On Saturday, this is when you can get some local produce and the market extends outside with some live music. One of my fav. food stalls is Arepa and Co, try the empandas. I do like a good empanada. I visited this market for the first time just before Halloween with my dad and baby boy. The best part was definitely the kids activity. There was a cute photo opportunity with pumpkins on hay stacks and an OH sign. We also got to paint a pumpkin to take home! The market itself is on the small side. What a truly great thing to have in Dayton. I just can't believe I never knew this place was here. First I knew that a majority of the vendors only take cash, but I forgot to go to an ATM before I got there. The ATM machine was out of money when we got there, so we decided to walk around first to see what there was to offer. The ATM got refilled with cash in about 15 minutes, so that was a good thing. It was a little packed but nothing too terribly inconvenient. It was raining though, so I imagine there would be more people there on a nice day. I tried the chicken pad Thai from the little Thai restaurant and it was absolutely delicious, some of the best pad Thai I have ever had. For going in March they had a lot more vendors present than what I expected. I'm excited to go back when it starts to get nicer out. read more

During a quick visit home from out of state, we decided to make a stop here. I loved the place! There are numerous food vendors and other artisan type booths. We went to enjoy some food and it was difficult to pick where we wanted to buy from because it all sounded so good. The 3 of us finally landed on Griddle Side, a crepe vendor. I bought the Alpine - Brie, blue cheese, ham, spinach with added mushrooms and onion. My mom split the Black Elk with me - bison, cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions. We ended out meet with coffees from another vendor and baklava from the Greek vendor. Wonderful. read more
