Really enjoyed the fresh pasta and sauces while sitting outside! Of course I bought some pastries to take home as well!

Simply amazing. We didn't have a reservation, and couldn't have gotten one anyway, because they were booked solid for two weeks out. So we just walked in, and the host was kind enough to let us sit at the little bar area near the window. I like their ordering system. You have many options --- go up to the cash register and order there, order from the server who comes by your table (or in our case, bar), or use your phone by scanning the QR code. And if you use your phone, each person in your party can do it themselves on their own phone. Regardless, it all gets added to the same order for the same table. Pretty slick. At the end, when it comes time to pay, the app lets you split the check however you want, and you can even see the name of the person that ordered each item. The food was incredible. It's not cheap, and the portions are a little smaller than some might expect at an Italian restaurant. But for us, it was filling enough. I personally had the raviolo, which was delicious. Little did I know that in Italian, "raviolo" is singular while "ravioli" is plural. So I got one giant raviolo on my plate (see picture). I didn't care much for the runny egg yolk on top, but it was as advertised on the menu. All the other food orders were amazing, especially the desserts. I'd definitely come back once my food budget resets.

Unbelievable spot in downtown Dayton. Grist is an Italian eatery with pasta, salads, sandwiches and pastries. The Italian Stallion sandwich is too good to be true! The bread is a treat in itself! Top it off with some black truffle chips and you're set! I cannot wait to go back. Where's the 6 stars on Yelp?

So good! I wish I could eat this ravioli every night, the bolognese was rich and creamy! Both stellar dishes

GRIST 5/5 Another Shout Out to YELP! Excellent Yelp reviews for Grist from reviewers, and this property has been on our to do list for some time. Considerations: Not the drive downtown; we have been enjoying this drive for 60 years. Parking is a consideration; yes, on the street, and that was no problem. Problematic are the parking meters, and we have set up accounts and used the "system" for a year plus. HATE this system; we like quarters, and we like swiping a card. Second, the shortage of tables in Grist remains an issue; yes, there are 3-4 tables, but will one be open? Seating is supplemented with a board facing the window. And there are the high tops in the adjacent room. We were seated, and a family of 7 with toddler almost filled Grist; thankfully they rebounded to the adjacent high top room. Grist is the BEST Dayton area Italian restaurant, and the two culinary school trained restaurant owners ensure a great dining experience. We have dined in Italy several times. But how do 2 owners and 5+ employees sustain a business model such as Grist? Coming in March is the renovation of the former Roost into a prized Italian restaurant (a few blocks east.) My wife and I are not concerned with meal pricing, but we do insist on good food, and Grist excels. Menu is small, and that is fine. Ambience is clean and clever. Service is at the counter; not a McDonald's counter. The young lassie is self-assured, and is capable of explaining the menu. My wife spied the desserts and selected two for herself, and enjoyed until the pasta arrived. Independently, we both arrived at Taglitelle Alla Bolognese. Grist tagliatelle is very similar to linguine, and the Bolognese is excellent. We shall return.

S'more tart. Not too rich. Just right.

Great place. Highly recommend it. Be sure and get reservations. It's pretty small. Their specialties are homemade pastas and great desserts. It's a pretty small menu. No liquor but beers and wines. You can either order by mobile or at the counter. Everything is delivered to your table. Service is prompt and good. They also do carryout including fresh pasta.

I'm not even gonna say much - the photo speaks for itself. The Italian Stallion is a hell of a sandwich.

One of the best restaurants I tried during my month in Dayton! Great vibes. Yum pasta. The menu changes frequently! We tried short rib agnolotti, butternut squash ravioli, mushroom risotto. The mushroom risotto was super yum this night. I recommend all of them tho! Focaccia was okay. We got a full that was too much for two gals. Panna cotta was yummy but super flavorful side.

    The menu, fam.

Nice food and perhaps one of the only things open in Downtown Dayton. Too bad there isn't a scene here, I like this town. Food was good, tables inside were nice and cool for the oppressive summer heat. I liked our servers.

    The TAGLIATELLE ALLA BOLOGNESE pasta

I gave Grist a visit for the first time yesterday after seeing multiple good reviews for this place. I am a huge fan of pasta, I eat it almost every other day so I was very excited to come here! When me and my friend had came inside we were greeted at the counter and they were still able to take us as a walk in even though it was dinner time!! After deciding for a minute I got Tagliatelle alla Bolognese and it was delicious and absolutely amazing!! It has to be the BEST pasta I've had yet!! It also came with some bread on the side which you could obviously tell was baked fresh!! I would absolutely recommend coming here if you have a love for fresh good pasta. Atmosphere is amazing, gives a calm and fancy like vibe with reasonable prices and amazing staff!!

Absolutely delicious We had the best lunch. Intimate but friendly atmosphere with delicious food from soup, sandwiches to fresh pasta. My husband said it was the best meatball sub he has ever had. He is Italian. The kids pasta was so good I would order it as my own dish. My only regret is I didn't try the tiramisu.. yet

Grist has long been on our list of places to try, but they have limited reservations that book up quickly. The ambience is quite unique. It's set up as a fast casual restaurant but with high quality ingredients and hand made pasta you would normally find at a high end, white table cloth restaurant. They show you to your table but then you order at the counter or via a QR code on the table. The menu rotates and it is simple, to the point. We tried a variety of things, starting with a half loaf of focaccia and meatballs. For entrees, we got the pork raviolini and tagliatelle bolognese. Desserts we tried a chocolate chip sea salt cookie and s'mores tart. The food was brought out incredibly quick. Everything was absolutely delicious. The pasta was next level and we savored every bite. We particularly liked the chili crunch on the pork raviolini, but again, everything was delicious. We would definitely come back for lunch, and highly recommend giving Grist a try if you're reading this. You'll want to plan ahead though as the dinner reservations do book up quickly. Side note, we went on a Saturday and the typically metered street parking was free.

Half portion of our second course choice (we indulged in sharing 3 starters so shared an entree)

After I chose a seat, they brought out my breakfast croissant on a paper plate. I wish the cheese was melted, but the sandwich was really good. The croissant was impressive-it tasted like I was back in Paris. It just felt like I was in my hotel lobby having breakfast with all the paper products. I opted for an assortment of to go pastries to try--almond croissant, lemon blueberry scone, and coffee cake. They were all pretty delicious, except the scone. The coffee cake was the best. I only got the chance to eat a few of the goodies I had but what I did eat was pretty good . I received some sort of apple danish which was so soft and pretty good . Then there was this pastry called Kougin Amann, which kinda reminded me of baklava without the peanuts and the glaze. But it was soo good it was in the size of a Muffin. They gave us two. There were also other parties in there that I didn't get a chance to even get too but there was a cinnamon roll and some pastry with strawberries and crème in the middle. 10/10 will definitely have to come back and get some more pastries and goodies
