It's so unfair and sad for such a lovely, well organized, fully stocked store-- (according to their items) to get such a low rating on Yelp. But they still go and shop there.Before I forget, they also sell and buy high profile items by famous designers.. After our lunch next door, I have noticed this 2nd STREET thrift store, and decided to walk in yesterday at 5:40pm. I was greeted by Serafin, & Brent. They were very welcoming, helpful, kind and sweet with nice smiles on their faces. After Serafin gave me a little update on their store, policies, rules and regs, everything was pretty much self explanatory. They buy your clothes, shoes, or whatever else that you are trying to sell/buy and they will give you 10% off, if any garment is damaged, stained, ripped etc..however, you have to leave your stuff with them. They will go over them, and what sells, or what not, you need to go pick them up before their closing time. They have many different types of items from: belts, hats, benies, sun glasses, sweaters, shirts, blouses, shoes/boots, purses, scarfs, jackets, slippers, and more. Didn't see any kitchen appliance nor any toys. I saw few items that interested me. Didn't need them, but since they were half off, decided to buy them. They have 3 dressing rooms, and Kylie, let me try them on. Got myself a nice short sleeve blouse, (brown color), a nice long sleeve mustard color Jacket that has a zipper in the front-- along with a nice fuzzy fur on the top, and the bottom part of the sleeves. So pretty and looking new & chic. I also got a pair of jeans for everyday use, with 2 pockets in the front and 2 on the back and a brown color sweater. Very pretty. Dressing room along with the store was very clean, and organized. They even had great music playing overhead. Every item has it's own value/price. For my purchases I paid only $22.52. Since I was a little girl, I have been a firm supporter of second-hand clothing/thrifting for two main reasons: 1) I grew up financially in the poverty bracket and still am not flush with the upper class and 2) I am a fan of vintage, unique finds and the experience that makes the fashion feel exclusive to me versus what is being force-fed by actual retailers. This brick-and-mortar experience (versus apps like Ebay, Poshmark and Depop) comes readily in the traditional sense of thrift stores that are largely on a donation-based model selling items at below-market prices and re-sell shops or consignment boutiques which generally sell higher-end, newer fashionable goods at above-market prices (lower than brand new but not thrift) and are curated from store buyers paying customers for their items which they in turn, sell. Think: Buffalo Exchange, Crossroads, Plato's Closet. 2nd Street fits the latter re-sell distinction and although I am not particularly a fan of this type of model (because I am poor); I recently ventured inside the Sherman Oaks location of 2nd Street. 2nd Street is a Japanese based retailer focused on re-selling premium fashion being birthed in 1996 before crossing globally opening its first US store on Melrose in the City of Angels. It has since expanded to more than 1000 locations worldwide with several in the Los Angeles SoCal area. The Sherman Oaks location holding 5,152 square feet real estate on Ventura Blvd near the intersection of Van Nuys Blvd opened in 2020 (how have I never noticed this store before?!). 2nd Street is definitely a hip vibe with a boutique, urban loft-like feel with high ceilings, cement floors and large, exposed wooden beams. The store is neat-and-tidy and organized with half women's and half men's with also some children's clothing. 2nd Street offers purses, coats, dresses, shirts, pants, hats, shoes... most everything except I did not see any jewelry. Darn. The selection at 2nd Street is definitely fashionable and distinct with some amazing finds: one-of-a-kind pieces, luxury brands, trending fashion houses, etc. However, 2nd Street is noticeably a bit steep on your pocket. The prices are out of my range and the lower-priced goods are either less 'cool' or damaged. I found a cute Princess Polly white dress with cherry motif that was super cheap and then I realized it is because it had stains. Many of these items I can get for far less even with shipping, on Poshmark. The negative of high prices wasn't the pow-point of 2nd Street as this was expected. As seems to be the norm of these re-sell shops; customers tend to be low-balled while they turn around and make quite a profit. Several reviews here state thus and mention 2nd Street telling them to "come back" and make several trips. I experienced this in person with a couple attempting to sell at the register and were severely low-balled as I am an expert at fashion and prices. There was another customer who left clothes, they weren't called to pick up the unwanted items/payment and so 2nd Street took the unwanted clothing after all! Shady!!!!! I also overheard a male associate, after that customer in question left, talking badly ABOUT the customer INFRONT of other customers, I.E. me! These wannabe hipsters and Gen Z kiddos are terrible at customer service and running a business which colored my perspective against the store. 2nd Street seems to offer a much better selection than competitors like Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange so I do recommend it for specialty pieces and occasional shopping but I wouldn't suggest selling to them (you aren't going to make much of a return). Management also needs to address the absence of customer service and rude shit-talking about customers in front of other customers. 2nd Street is best taken with a grain of salt at your own discretion. read more

So much better than other locations I've been to! A good selection of designer & casual , but unfortunately rather high prices. Really nice designer brand thrift shop. It's organized and clean with a hip, industrial vibe. There's a few cases in front with leather accessories. I saw Dior and Louis Vuitton. They don't carry jewelry here. Handbags are in many parts of the store. Very gently used with good prices for the brand and condition. Saw a lot of shoes for men and women, with soles in very good condition or better. A very helpful, nice employee assisted me. I have been wanting to visit this place and finally I got the chance to see it. After coming from Coldstone Creamery, I had 15 minutes to spare and walked over here. Security guard and the sales people were courteous enough to let me know that they are closing in 15minutes. So here I am browsing the glass case with luxury items - Gucci, LV and the like. I find them pricey so I moved to the racks. They are fully stocked. A lot of products to choose from but they are not cheap enough to justify buying them. I found a cute black Rebecca Minkoff purse that I like and the price was within my budget so I bought it. 2nd Street has ALWAYS been a go-to store just in general to get clothes from, let alone specifically shop vintage. They've changed management in the past 1-2 years or so, but the store's been looking even better than before! The team has always been somewhat easy, though, to get whenever I needed something, whether it be high-up, on a mannequin, or behind the counter. Ava and Paulina are the ABSOLUTE nicest and always have the BEST fashion advice (and they will be honest and not just say it looks good because they work there!) Their customer service is amazing and so many of them go above and beyond to help clientele. 2nd Street has raised their prices by just a bit in the past couple of years as well, but I feel like that's fair compared to other stores and businesses right now. If you are a SELLER, I think it's important to go in with no expectations. I'd typically recommend more of what you would give to Goodwill and all of those random bags of clothes that have been sitting in your garage vs. the fur coat that your great-grandmother gave you that you cherish and are thinking about selling. I would ALSO recommend looking up the payout sheet IF you are mainly focused on making MONEY from your pieces. Otherwise, drop-off and pickup are pretty easy and they're typically decently fast on their turn-around times. The store is organized based on Men's and Women's, and then most of the aisles are sectioned by type of garment, ex. tank tops, short sleeves, dresses, jeans (with the exception of a couple themed sections like Y2K or Designer.) Overall, though, they have such a good collection and assortment of pieces for adults including more affordable options and fun designer finds. I'm excited to go back! read more

Don't waste your time at this location, go elsewhere!!!! I have sold many high end designer items to 2nd Street in Costa Mesa, CA. where I've had nothing but excellent experiences. At the Costa Mesa location they have always been fair and courteous nevertheless this location is ridiculous, unfair, rude, disrespectful, and shows favoritism to certain clients. I arrived at the Sherman Oaks location later in the afternoon and was told that they only purchase between 11 AM and 3 PM. I only had one shirt that I wanted to sell nevertheless I was turned away and told to come back tomorrow. At the same moment while I was being turned away another gentleman was being helped. This other customer sold some Yves saint Laurent and Christian Dior items as well as was shown items to purchase that had not yet entered the inventory. This gentleman was also offered pricing far superior than the pricing I was offered. For example he was paid nearly 40% of retail for the items he was selling and only 10% over what the location paid on new items that had yet to be displayed for the public. I had brought in a Alexander McQueen men's button down shirt with a price tag of $1498.00 The shirt was from this season's collection, it was new, it had never been worn. I had somehow lost the receipt when I moved and one of the hang tags had ripped off although other than that it was in excellent condition as if it was just taken from the rack at Neiman Marcus or somewhere comparable. The least expensive price I found online for the same shirt was on the Lyst for $1,037.00. Despite being a well known customer in Costa Mesa and being in their computer system the manager still sent me back home to get a copy of my drivers license when I arrived the second time the following day. I asked him roughly what he would give me for the shirt he confirmed 20 to 30% of the lowest price online. So I left and went home to retrieve my drivers license. When I arrived the third time a woman helped me with a poor demeanor and a indignant attitude. She offered me $65.00??? I thought I misunderstood her. Then I asked her to repeat herself and check if that was correct. When I asked how she derived at that figure, she stated to me that I can go elsewhere if I did not like her offer. She also suggested I go to a place called, "Wasteland". I said thank you. I was now slightly frustrated and agitated so I pressed her a bit and repeated my same question. This time she said they were not focusing on men's clothing and that they needed to increase their profit margin's as well as she was going to price the shirt at roughly $180.00. Obviously she was lying so I figured I would have some fun..., I laughed and then I stated I had been low balled before although she had taken it to a entirely new level I had never even considered because I did not have, nor did anyone I know have the ability to be that stupid with a stranger and keep a straight face. I complimented her ability to lie so well because it was so impressive. At this point I wanted to laugh, she really was either that good or that ignorant either case she could've sold it if I was desperate. I then asked If that was the case I should be able to buy a $10,000 items that they take in at her location for approximately $1000 and asked if I could have first right of rescission to buy every designer item bought at her location at her suggested pricing structure. She responded with a smug and condescending, " if you don't like my offer you can go elsewhere". Two days and 3 trips equals several hours of time, wear and tear on my car and roughly $50 in fuel all wasted Because nobody could give me a straight answer without jumping through so many hoops to be offered $65 in gas to be offered $65 on a $1,400 item? Obviously these people have no respect for other peoples time and resources. I witnessed firsthand the favoritism shown to what was obviously a friend of the employee while I was shown the go f@c! yourself pricing and basically given the run around for two days! I would not recommend this location unless you are one of those special people who happen to be a family member or friend of one of the employees. I've been here maybe once or twice before hand before all things covid. First off, this place is amazing. They have such an amazing collection of designers goods. Right when you walk in, there's display cases of designer handbag galore. Purses, wallets and so on. There's also a case of sunglasses and watches. Even behind the counter are more displays of designer bags. Selections are amazing. Then of course you have rows and racks of fun and amazing clothes. Selections of good finds. Vintage and up to date items. Shoes, bags, pants, jackets. The list of great things goes on and on. The store is neatly organized. The selections of designers finds are spectacular. They have most things arranged by designer so that helps. This time, fitting room weren't available so no trying on things. Also, this was the second time that it happened when the credit card machine wasn't working. First time was before covid when we visited and now again. We noticed that people had to leave all there shopping behind as the machine wasn't working. I'm sure they would hold it for you but sucks that they would have to come back. Great array of items. Second hand store shopping done well... a super organized, bright and spacious thrift store of quality and care with prices ranging from low to moderate with styles of all levels and price points. The customer service is personable and the ratio of clothing for all genders is suprisingly fair and equal compared to other stores in the area where men's clothing is significantly less abundant. Parking in the area is mainly street though there is a parking garage or two nearby. Much like Buffalo Exchange you can sell your old clothes here in reasonable condition. Sizes in footwear as well as attire has a sort of a cap not as many choices for the super tall, thick and other beautiful shapes of people inbetween. That said there is something for everyone just not much for that 6'5, size 13+ shoe guy or body positive plus size gal... and with so many different styles including army/camo, plaid, sheer, dressy, casual, etc.... I hope this is something that will change, expand and only grow and make all if not most feel they can find something here especially with such solid deals and inviting energy. They have a decent selection of high-end and designer which is fairly priced. I will say they have a competitive accessories; bags, wallet, sunglasses selection. The reps usually are too busy to help. Only two dressing rooms so there is often a line and/or they're helping a seller, on the phone, or chit chatting. They don't like when you impose on their chit chatting. Some of the conversations are quite inappropriate. It's young people working in a store for young people. Came in today with my daughter and was told by the security guard that I needed to leave my bag from another store at the front. No problem I said then he took my bag and threw it right near the door and walked away. I was literally shocked that the store would throw my things and leave them unattended. I walked back and said you just leave my things there. He then proceeded to tell me that even the mail man leaves his bag full of mail next to the open door. Anyone can walk up and take it. Terrible service. Store item selection is mediocre, customer server was just bad with workers being condescending, rude, slow, and unhelpful. I usually don't leave negative reviews but this was just a terrible experience. Please do not bring your business here. Tried selling some blazers and other jackets and not only was the wait 2 hours, they stuffed all the blazers into a plastic bag with zero regard for creasing or other forms of damage. I mean there was zero care or folding put into the items, and they were to remain in such a state for 2 HOURS. That alone almost made me take my items back but I wanted to at least get a quote. After 2 hours I got my terribly creased clothes with them offering $1 for decent brand blazers (Kenneth Cole, Varvatos, etc.) and less than $1 on other pieces that were good quality I'm nearly at a loss for words. The good: This place is overwhelmingly stashed with great finds! This is by far my favorite second hand clothing store that I have been to. Much like Buffalo Exchange where they select only trendy clothes (unlike Goodwill that has a hodge podge of everything) the target population is young and trendy folks. However, unlike Buffalo, the majority of the items are in really great condition and are fairly priced. It's a good spot to find particular brands because they separate many things by brand (Nike, Supreme, etc). They have affordable things in the $5-16 range but they also have vintage pieces or designer items that are in the hundreds or over $1,000. I couldn't even peruse the entire store because I knew I'd end up buying more things. Everything in the store was in great condition still and the store didn't have a used/old clothes smell. It was brightly lit and had an industrial feel. Though the clothes were second hand, you didn't feel like you were in a dingy second hand clothing store. The shoes were all in great condition. I've never seen such a great selection of backpacks, fanny packs, purses, hand bags and men's boots before. The shoe section is to die for (for both men and women). They also sell jewelry, watches and hats. The bad: The hangers are tightly packed so it's hard to look through the clothes because the hangers don't slide left and right much. I want to specify that this review reflects the selling model and not the physical storefront or service. To preface, I actually think this thrift store is probably one of the nicer/cleanest options available with a decent selection of second hang clothes and accessories. As a young browser I'd much prefer to shop here than any Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads etc...the staff appears very friendly and professional. However, as a human being who respects myself, I can say I would sooner burn my stuff in the middle of the nearest parking lot than bring it here for pennies again. It's true that any buy/sell thrift will leave you feeling judged, offended, and even violated, but it seems like the pricing here is more so based on category as oppose to sell value. "10 cent items" (literally) for shirts that may have cost $100 etc..leaving you with less cash than another buyer...for reference I was offered $4 for an item with the $150 price tag attached...I've been paid more for a hug. If the money isn't that important, handing over quality/brand name items might benefit you. For the most part though, I believe most bring their things for resale because they consider them to be of some value...the best advice I can give is to go in with a donation mindset so that the $8 you leave with is only a plus. read more
