This is an absolute gem. I've you don't know what 2nd Street is, come check it out. It's a very trendy street wear second hand store originated from Japan and finally made its way to the United States. I checked out the 2nd Street in Ashbury Heights SF a few times and always found nice clothes. I didn't know how big the Berkeley location was. You'll definitely find something great for your closet. From a buyers perspective it's 10 out of 10. From a sellers perspective it's 1 out of 10. They pay you 5% from it's original value or so when you sell here. read more

It was my first time thrifting in awhile and I had heard that this thrift store had come to the Bay so thought I'd come check it out. I've been to a number of 2nd Street locations in Japan where the brand is originally from and had semi-high expectations for this place. They make you check backpacks at the front due to the growing number of thefts. Everything was organized to a degree but not by size so you have to go through all the racks in order to really see what's there. There are fitting rooms thankfully - seems more rare in thrift shops these days. The biggest disappointment was that I didn't see anything that unique here. There was a lot of fast fashion and a small area for vintage pieces but none of them stood out. There's also a small designer area but most of the expensive pieces are hung on the walls so they're not easy to try on. Also not sure about the authentication process. I've heard negative reviews about selling things here and as I didn't sell, can't comment on the pricing structure. A lot of things were priced $5-20, but were also fast fashion or had no label. Overall, might be good for the college student looking for a casual outfit but would not come back anytime soon. read more

My teen son, who's into high end street ware but knows mama won't pay those ridiculous prices, asked me to take him to this thrift/consignment shop. Let it be known, I love thrifting & know what's a good deal. I was shocked to find pieces that could be found at the thrift store for 1/3 of what they were asking for here. Hard pass for me. However, my son did find a couple trendy pieces that would cost an arm & a leg elsewhere & would be hard to find at another thrift store. He ended up getting a t-shirt, some $220 shoes for $35, and a North Face sweater for $16. Okay, okay, I admit I did find a brand new long North Face parka for $80. I love this location, it's the bigger location here in The Bay. I was soooo heartbroken to hear that a bunch of handbags were stolen from this location, as the staff is all super nice and helpful. In contrast, this team is much more chill than SF in a good way. The SF team can be cutting and rude, with a bit of entitlement. This location is much more wide, so you can shop much more comfortably. You will have to seek out handbag inventory at SF, or online for them, bags are not available here. The buyers are quick, and provide breakdown on pricing as well as notes on quality if you ask it of them. I like to sell on Sundays, it's a little less chaotic plus parking is free at the meters. For any new sellers, call to ask what items they are looking for right now, and sell of current season. Ex.) during summer sell summer clothes, in fall sell your coats and warmer clothes. The pricing will help more, you will be priced lower for quality items if you sell them off season, just due to simple inventory need. This location is so big, you gotta be patient when going through each rack, especially the men's t-shirt racks. They span across half of the store, it's so good. Happy shopping y'all. read more

I don't know why I bother with still going to 2nd Street since most of the items, if not, are in bad condition (some have fabric piling, stains, or holes) at least for the few shirts and sweaters that I browsed through. I found a used Pendleton "wool" flannel for $39 (which I didn't get)! The prices can be a bit outrageous, but if you're looking for decent T-shirts and blouses, prices can range $5-12. There were some 2000s sweaters I found with bold graphic prints that younger me probably would have worn. But for a price like $14 for a worn out, not so great fabric quality, sweater, I don't think so. read more

[this review is to share my experience as a seller]. The only reason I came here is because while I was at crossroad - someone who's waiting in line there told me about 2nd street. And since I'm selling mostly brand items (Nike, Tory Burch, hmxbalmain) and they're known for buying brand name items - I decided to go there. I got there at around 2:30p on a Friday and they weren't busy at all. There are three people working behind the counter. One of them took my info and explain to me how it works. She also warned me that it'll be about 1.5 hrs since they are short staff. That was fine - I mentally prepared myself. Good thing their location is in Berkeley and there's so much things to do. After all - it's my alma mater and I know all the secret spots. After 2 hours - I went back to check and they just started processing my stuff. They told me it'll be another hour. I went to another bar to pass the time. I came back again in an hour only to tell me everything was $13! Mind you - I have some really unique pieces. I ended up only "selling" (if you can even call it that) - 2 Nike windbreakers for $6 each and two boots for $0.01 each. If you decide to still go - sharing the fun places I visited while waiting and some tips: def find cheap parking, walk around the UC Berkeley campus (go bears!), grab a drink at Free Hause, Raleigh has also good drinks and they have a shuffle board for free, there's a corn guy who sells Mexican snack, there's also a cupcake and yogurt place that I don't remember the name. I love love love this place. Every time I'm in Berkeley, I try to stop by. And it's dangerous because I'm always guaranteed to find something I like in that store, and the longer I spend there the more I find. They have fitting rooms there too to try on items, which is nice because I would never buy thrifted clothing without checking the fit first. They have a section of cheap things ($5-$9) that is more days fashion but hey I've been wearing some $5 items from here for years now. Then there is the more expensive area of higher end pieces, which I also appreciate. This is a review about selling items, not buying. I realize some people really need to save every penny, But unless you really need the money badly don't bother selling your stuff there. It would be better to give the items to a charity organization that you support. You will get an abysmal fraction of the value of the item. Look I get you have a "no return" policy but it's really shitty that exceptions cannot be made under special circumstances. Bought some FOG sweatpants that were XL and in the MENS section. I have worn L or XL across various brands for the last 10 years of my life. I don't need to try on an XL it's either going to fit or be too big. I get home and try the pants on and what do you know? They're a woman's XL almost impossible to know by looking at them. Knowing the return policy I call ahead and yup they can't do anything about it. I was even told by the manager " Well I would've tried sweatpants on before spending $70 on them." GTFO!!! Manager has zero authority or managerial skills. Bought a pair of Sacais here and left the store, realized instantly they were not the right size so I went back 5mins after the sale and explained the situation. I asked for a refund or exchange and the employee refused and said "all sales are final". Um, ok... first off no one told me the return policy upon purchasing and secondly, these shoes are going for around $80 on GOAT. This place had these priced at $140, SMH. About a month ago I brought in a vintage Louis Vuitton purse (which was in good condition), a Mcm crossbody (also in great condition), and a brand new pair of Yeezys! And they were only trying to give me $300 for it all. When I know well enough my Mcm bag was worth $300 alone. I'm a little surprised by some of the bad reviews. I have both sold and bought clothes from this store. The selling process is really straightforward. You check in your bag when you arrive and then they'll call you after they're finished going through your items. They were very clear with what they were looking for and what they would price. For fast fashion (Forever 21, Shein, Zara, etc.), they price them on the floor for ~$5. That means that you, as a seller, gets 0.05. For other higher-end items, they were price accordingly and give you ~20-30% of what they would sell. Contrary to other people's reviews, they DO accept those fast fashion items. I brought in a bag of 21 items containing a mix of fast fashion and other higher end items and they ended up taking all of them which was much better than other places I've sold to. In terms of buying clothes here, I loved it! Yes, there are items that have some high prices but those are usually priced because they fall into some specific category (style, brand, etc.). Most of their higher priced items are in the front. If you keep looking, you will find some very affordable items that are in great conditions. This is a great thrift store with a huge selection of current and stylish clothes that don't cost more than a department store. Before coming here, we stopped at a few places closer to campus and were shocked- the selections were slim and the prices were not congruent with second hand sales. Mid and overpriced asf- do not come here at all. The stock here is okay, and occasionally there will be an actually good piece, but jesus will it be overpriced. Like Kapital century denim pants are with $400 (ish) new not second hand, a fake yeezy 2018 hoodie is not worth anything, let alone whatever absurd price they had it at - and what's with all the porter? And if there's that much, why is it so overpriced? Like the idea of a thrift shop is to give the community an outlet to buy clothes for a bargain/try to practice more sustainable consumption and for the community to make a little money selling things. Better than your average thrift store. They have more modern clothes and have great selections which don't require heavy digging. They make it easy by sectioning off some brands or styles for ex. I saw "cottagecore", "Supreme", "Braindead", "Carhartt", "vintage", "skate" etc. There's anything ranging from basics to streetwear and designer. You can also sell here, but just like any other thrift store don't expect to rake in good money for your items. I sold 3 clothing items and a backpack for $20.10 which was not bad in my opinion. For anyone looking to make big bucks off their items this may not be the place but if you want to make a quick buck and don't mind the amount you get, 2nd street makes selling quick & easy. Be careful when trading here and really take a look at the buyout sheet they give. They gave me .10 each for 36 pieces recently. Yes $3.60 for 36 items. It took me a second to actually process this but I wish I would have just taken all the clothes back. It's not a %30 cash business anymore like I thought it was. BEWARE SELLS FAKES!!!!!!! Loved this store and the deals I could find. Unfortunately in January I went and purchased a Supreme CDG hoodie. I made an account with them and it seemed like everything was fine. I left the receipt in my friends bag since I didn't think I had anything to worry about. After all, they promise authenticity with each item. I had it in my closet for a while and when I finally did wear it, there were a lot of things that seemed off like the shape and poor stitching. About a week ago I decided to pay an app to authenticate the hoodie. The hoodie failed as a replica. When I went to the store location for a refund, they said they can only search a month prior for transactions and that anything further would be a few hours for them to go through. Instead of giving me any compensation they pretty much told me to go pawn it off to Wasteland SF since they don't do any authentication. When I asked how it could even get through he claimed that some of the workers don't do the authentication probably to speed up the process. When I had asked to have it legit checked by them, they said I could join the line of people who had already submitted their clothes to be sold and that it would be several hours. Instead of helping me right then and there, they decided to make me wait the same amount of time it would've taken for them to go through the records and find the transaction. Not only that but they offered me $60 dollars for the hoodie when I had purchased it for $180 but only if it passed the authentication test that they clearly didn't do last time they sold it. I didn't have the time to wait for the hoodie to be authenticated so I left. Will not return knowing there is a possibility that I will be getting a replica instead of something authentic like they promise! read more

Someone recommended me to this place and quoted "the best place to sell" I went there to sell used clothes and designer bag, they said we would be the next in line, however, the wait was 30mins or even longer than that. The person who authenticated my bag was quite rough with it. The price that they quoted me for my used clothes was very low, it is even cheaper than the cheaper item they sell at the store. Each piece was quoted for less than 10cents each and most of them were in very good condition. They said 10% markup price? More like 1000%. I would not recommend selling your clothes to this store. Absolutely terrible experience. I went in to sell clothes, gave them my ID and they accepted it. When I came back to get the estimate, not only did they only offer me $2, but they didn't believe that my driver's license from Puerto Rico (which is a US territory, and my ID has Real ID) was a US ID and they did not accept it. They told me they don't accept "foreign ID's". I left the clothes simply because I wanted to get rid of them, but I genuinely felt discriminated against. I have never had issues with my ID from PR in California before, since most people know that it's a US ID that is allowed to be legally used in the US. I have sold things using it at other stores, so I don't see why it's suddenly an issue here. Also, $2 for the clothes I brought was genuinely absurd. You're better off going to another store. One of my friends also had a terrible experience here. He bought something here for $20, and then went to resell it back to them after only wearing once (in perfect condition), and they told him it's "worth no more than $2."
