I told them what I was looking for and the guy and gal in the bottom portion while I was there were SO helpful and kind. I felt bad making them dig but they reassured me it's just the nature of their shop it's all trial and error. I left with TWO pairs of vintage Levi's and they fit me like a glove. I went to exchange a Christmas present that didn't fit today. The staff person who helped me was perfectly efficient and cordial, I was in and out quickly and satisfied. The place was not for boutiquey types, I would suppose. It is a cramped, claustrophobic, dark dungeon of a retail front...but guess what? I don't go shopping for ambiance, and it was what it was, completely adequate. I just needed some work pants, and they delivered that. Only deduction was because the inventory was very short on my matching size/color options, which perhaps wouldn't have been the case if it wasn't the day after Christmas. Service amazing, collection beyond amazing. value average, but there's something to be said to be able to try on things before you purchase them. rather than buying them blind on the Internet and most places on the Internet do not accept return so you pay a little bit more, but you get to choose what you really really want.. it's been there for 40 years and I never knew at all. Would highly recommend doing an appointment during the week because you're guaranteed the entire hour and have complete attention from the staff! The owner was nice when I interacted with her, but there were two employees that were extremely condescending and rude. I'm a young working professional, but they talked to me like I was a child and berated me when I asked them a question about sizing. I've bought jeans here a few times and had reasonable assistance in the past. But after shopping here this last time, I had to come read the Yelp page, just to make sure I wasn't crazy -- I needed to see other people express that, wow, some of the staff here are exceptionally rude in a weird way! I feel sorry for whoever works with the two women I dealt with, but their communication skills are terrible and they made buying jeans an extremely tense and negative experience. It was odd, because they were obviously trying to be helpful, but their style of communication is entirely focused on pressure and forward momentum. I have walked into Slash a few times over the last year to browse and finally decided it was time to pull the trigger on some new raw denim. The staff was extremely helpful in finding the exact fit I wanted. Their sales associate Claire clearly had deep knowledge of every brand and style, making my hunt for the right pair a breeze. She spent about an hour with me and my fiancé constantly running back and forth to pull different pairs off the shelf and had an answer for just about every question we had. For the uninitiated, Slash has two storefronts. On College is an airy upstairs space with new merchandise. Around the corner and down a few steps on Russell are the vintage jeans. Frankly, I feel like they should switch places. The vintage side is just waaaaaay too small. I can see where the tight quarters with floor-to-ceiling stacks of jeans could be considered charming and fun, but unless you're the kind of person who is willing to be rude and pushy to claim your personal space, you're not gonna like it. I didn't like it. Also, I didn't like that there was essentially only one person to help the seemingly endless stream of customers. There was another employee there, but she wasn't assisting anyone. All she was doing was standing around and watching the show in between folding. It took me a while to figure out that she even worked there. It could very well be that it's not her fault and that she isn't being given the authority to assist customers. In fact, I kind of suspect that's the case, considering how blatantly obvious it was that customers needed help. This is NOT a self-service kind of store. You will 100% need assistance in finding styles and sizes. If that's the business model, fine...but build in service levels accordingly, please. So why 3 stars? Well, it COULD have been a great place to shop. I just know that my kid could have found all the back-to-school jeans of her dreams if only we had gotten 5 minutes of attention. Instead, after about 20 minutes, we had to throw in the towel and leave. We ended up spending over a hundred dollars over at Buffalo Exchange instead. read more

Walking into this store can be pretty overwhelming. The place is filled with jeans it is difficult to know where to begin. The sales associate was really nice. He asked for my size, style, and color jeans I was looking for. He then gave about 20 pairs of jeans to try on and I fell in love. I've been shopping here for at least 6 years and my last experience left me feeling ripped off. First of all, prices have doubled since I first went. Ok, inflantion, whatever. But then I was asked if I wanted to tip and it caught me so off guard I felt forced to which made me very uncomfortable and angry. So I'm left with the question- do I need to create an uncomfortable situation where I go back to request my tip back? No thanks. So, I guess I'll just eat that tip that I didn't want to give you. Exactly what service are you offering that merits a tip? This has never been asked of me before at this business. Mind you, I spent $250 before tip. Feels incredibly disingenuous, I feel cheated and can't understand why a business owner of a jean store is asking for tips. Incredibly hostile staff, and ridiculous prices! When I first entered the store I was berated by a bunch of questions from a thin brown haired older woman that worked there. I was just looking to peacefully search for pants but I couldn't escape the staff due to the fact that the store is very small. I eventually gave in and tried on some of the many pants the store clerk gave me. none of them fit and they were not the style I was looking for. Frankly I felt like the store clerk was ignoring me and basically gave me what ever jeans she could find Luckily another store clerk could tell I felt uncomfortable and stepped in. She found me a beautiful pair of 550 Levi's but unfortunately they were stained. When I asked what the price would be they told me the stained faded jeans cost $70. When I politely rejected the pants due to the price the older woman from before had a mental break down and yelled at me. She told me I was too picky and should not shop for vintage pants. She told me I was wasting her time and that I shouldn't shop at her store if I'm not willing to spend that much amount of money. First off I don't consider it too picky to want jeans that aren't stained and fit. Second off just because I don't purchase merchandise does not give anyone the right to verbally harassed their own customers. I personally work in retail and would never treat my customers this way. It sucks because I would've returned to the store, because the rest of the staff seemed very nice, and their merchandise was pretty good even though most of it was not my size. Ive bought two pairs of jeans from Slash and have been ecstatic with my purchase every time. I just picked up the black mom jeans of my dreams yesterday, which I have been failing to find in my size for quite some time as i'm very petite. I will admit the jeans are a bit pricey ($85 compared to the old price of $75), but you will be supporting a local business for some wonderful, curated vintage denim that would be hard to find elsewhere.
