The staff here are beyond friendly and helpful. In fact, this is the very place where the "blueberry pie survey" happened. We asked the lady behind the register where to find the best blueberry pie, and she started to ask customers who came by who they recommended. They directed us to Moody's Diner. Locals and staff alike are quick to share stories and recommendations, which makes it feel like you're part of the community even if you're just passing through. The store itself is full of surprises. They've got a wood-burning pizza oven (yes, in a general store, how cool is that?), hot lattes, teas, and other comforting drinks, because nothing beats sipping a latte in a Victorian-style shop while digging into a fresh out of the wood burning oven gooey cheesy slice of pizza. Add in their great selection of beer and wine, plus Maine classics like whoopie pies and Moxie soda, and you've got something for everyone. A local gentleman even gave me the full history of Moxie, and that kind of friendliness is exactly what makes this place so special. Outside, you'll find pretty flowers and herbs adding to the charm. Owen's is quaint, welcoming, and one of those stops that makes a Maine trip extra memorable. Definitely worth a visit or 5! I'll most def be going back!

Nothing was terrible, but unfortunately, nothing was very good either. As a longtime restaurant owner, what stood out to me was the lack of attention to detail and the overall quality and quantity of the proteins and ingredients. I have no problem paying $15 for a simple sandwich if it's executed well. But little things add up: a tiny bag of chips, a very small pickle portion, minimal meat, minimal kraut, minimal sauce. It felt like every possible quarter was being shaved off the plate. I understand how difficult it is to make money in restaurants right now, but at some point the guest notices. I ordered the hot Reuben. It really wasn't hot, the bread wasn't crisp, the cheese wasn't properly melted, and the meat quality was fairly lackluster. There simply wasn't much meat, kraut, or sauce to make it feel like a satisfying Reuben. My wife ordered the chicken, artichoke and pesto sandwich. Again, the execution was the issue. The pesto wasn't spread evenly from edge to edge, the cheese wasn't melted, the sandwich wasn't particularly hot, and there were only a couple small pieces of artichoke. That's probably what disappointed me most. These are relatively simple sandwiches, and simple food can be fantastic when the basics are done correctly: crisp the bread, melt the cheese, distribute the condiments evenly, use enough filling, and cut and plate the sandwich with a little care. Those small details make a huge difference. We also had two non-alcoholic beers at $8 each. That isn't outrageous, especially in a tourist area with a view, but $16 for two cans of NA beer still feels like it's pushing the upper end of reasonable. The service was good, the staff was friendly, and the upstairs view was enjoyable. I just wish the same level of care had gone into the sandwiches. I don't write reviews every time I'm disappointed, but after owning a restaurant and responding personally to customer reviews for more than 12 years, I tend to notice these things. Hopefully this is taken as constructive feedback, because the fundamentals here are very fixable.

The slight spice of the chili and cheese was a great topping mixture for the beef patty. The fries were right in the middle of crispy and soft. The North of the border burger was, "very tasty. Awesome flavor!" Which is a good review from my Dad who isn't much for extra on details. My brother got the Korean BBQ sliders special (not on menu pictures provided). The flavors were awesome. Lucky the kimchi came on the side, my brother wasn't too keen on the fermented cabbage. My mom had the curried chicken wrap, no wrap. So the kitchen made it a salad for her. Sh loves salad and curry. So why not put them together for a dish she really loved. The staff were all extremely friendly. They seemed to know a lot of the patrons coming in. Sounded like a lot of locals come as everyone knows your name. I had the chicken curry salad wrap but without the wrap to make it gluten free. Heavy portion. Loved the raisens in the salad. Glad we stopped.
