Lori's cafe is an oasis on Rte 3, super cute and welcoming. The menu has some homemade Maine classics like fried scallops, fried haddock and haddock chowder. I tried the Cajun tacos. Admittedly, the tacos were not what I expected. They were fried fish with Cajun seasoning sprinkled on top in taco shells that looked more like small taco salad bowls with heaping levels of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. I ate the fish and couldn't have been happier- light and delicious. Onion rings were very good. We grabbed a donut and cinnamon roll for the road. A bit dry - maybe it was day old - but 15 seconds in the microwave and it was yummy. This is a great stop because you can get gas and ice cream right next door. I ordered the haddock reuben. It was a generously sized sandwich. Haddock was flour breaded and fried. There were no tables available inside so we sat outdoors. It was breezy out, but we found a nook that was tucked up against the building with a roof overhead so it was quite comfortable. Service was "wicked good". We stopped for breakfast to go on our way out of town. My children got a cinnamon roll and a side of bacon. The cinnamon rolls were homemade and HUGE!! Having recently purchased a home locally that will become our retirement home, we have been trying the local places to find new favorites. Still undecided about Lori's Cafe becoming a regular stop. The service was great...very friendly and welcoming staff...and though the place is small, we had no problem being seated and served quickly. Lunch was good...my fish was delicious but the 'chips' were not cooked through. French fries should be crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside...these were neither. The most disappointing part was the pie. I LOVE pie and when I saw coconut cream pie on the menu I knew a piece had to come home with me! Not a good idea! What I saw when I opened the container at home was a thin piece of custardly looking pie with coconut sprinkled on top...where was the inch of fluffy yummy cream? Definitely not coconut cream pie and not fresh tasting at all! We may try again since the reviews about the great homemade breads got my taste buds interested...I LOVE bread, too! Super cute!! My friends and I stopped in and had a nice lunch outside. There menu is a little limited, and there's no indoor seating. Outside is fine but there's just not any shade. But the food was really good! They also have a ton of fry options and it's always fun to be able to get tator tots or waffle fries. The service was awesome and very friendly. We went to Lori's last night for dinner. I had fish chowder and sweet potato fries. It was a good dinner but the coconut cream pie was to die for. It is the best pie I have ever had. We go to Lori's every year we are up here and usually get ice cream after dinner but never again. Desserts at Lori's are fabulous! Food came quick and great service too. Staff in 2 other local businesses recommended Lori's when we asked about someplace good to eat. Lori's did not disappoint, the food was good and the prices reasonable. The fish and chips were fresh and tasty, lightly battered fish and crinkle fries. Seasoned fries and sweet potato fries are also available. My partner had liver and onions, which was perfectly done. The mashed potatoes are homemade and when the first serving arrived stone cold, the waitress whisked them away and returned with piping hot in 2 seconds, so we knew they hadn't been nuked. The first serving must have been from the wrong pot. There are booths and counter service, as well as a few tables. Lots of locals eat here, judging by the banter with the staff. The coffee was good, they also serve Pepsi products and unsweetened iced tea. Our bill for 2 meals plus beverage came to under $20. We were trying to get to the Common Ground fair, but arrived too late to do more than sit in miles of traffic. We'll try again next year and definitely stop at Lori's. read more
