Came here on our second stop of bar hopping. I feel this place has seen better days but we still went. Lack of judgement? IDK. Crowd is more middle age. Can get crowded. I like that there's free popcorn. Ordered a pitcher of blue moon. Music was meh. Bartender was really nice though. I was out with the girls and decided to come here for a night of fun. I'm a regular here, usually I love the music on Friday night but for the last 2 weeks the music is not up to expectation! One more thing I would like to point out, please train your Bartenders with better customer service skills, there is no need to be rude and disrespectful. I had been waiting before the her but i didnt care. I did like a half raise of my hand and asked if i could get a drink too. Freddie's 35er is a weird mix between a pub and a club. The main floor is just what you'd expect from a pub and downstairs is their dance floor with another bar. The atmosphere is just what you would expect at a club, so if you're looking for a place to sit down and talk, I definitely recommend another place. My friends and I arrived here on a Sunday night expecting to have a nice chill time. The bartender with half red hair and half black served us 2 margaritas that pretty much tasted like lime water. When we brought it to her attention that the it tasted like water both in the tequila and the mix taste she immediately was defensive and stated that there's plenty of tequila and if we want more we can buy more. Ive come here a total of 5 times, not sure if I will come again. First of all, this little club is a huge hotspot on the weekends. Crowds are huge, making you feel squished on the dance floor (which is the floor below. The first floor is where pool tables and the main bar are at). We were looking for a spot to watch our beloved Denver Broncos in the area. Of course, we thought of Barney's Beanery but opted against it as they only had small wee little TV's showing our boys. When we stopped by the 35er they had it on multiple projectors and big screens which I truly appreciated. The drinks were reasonable in price and they had a good selection of beers. I was really happy that they had some snacks for purchase. We had some wings and some fries but by the team we wanted to order another round their fry seem to be out of commission. Luckily, some awesome person in our group walked over to King Taco and brought back some food. It didn't seem like the 35er cared which is great in my book. Worse experience EVER! I am in shock at the horrible rude service here! Upon arrival we walked to the bar to place our order from the female (only) bartender/employee there. I can't provide her name bcuz she refused to answer me when I asked for her name to kindly address her by it. It was not that packed btw. We ordered our drinks & some pizza, she warned us that the food would take 30mins bcuz she was working the kitchen also???!!! We had no problem with that at all and sat and waited. We sat there & and saw all of the unhappy customers waiting & complaining as they were ignored when going to the bar to get drinks. She would only acknowledge the "regulars" it seems. After 1+ hour we decided to check on the status of our food & she rudely replied that she never entered it bcuz it was just to busy for her!!!! What??? Never in my entire life had I heard of such incompetence! Why would she not let us know sooner!? While walking out we ran into the owner & explained what happened, his answer? All I wanted was to play some pool with my girlfriend (using her account to write this) and a couple buddies in the Pasadena area and got caught up in some real twisted bizzarro-world crap down the street (Barney's Beanery: Blechhhh). Luckily someone pointed us to Freddie's where we found the perfect setup. Two nice tables (dive-bar nice), a couple straight sticks, 1$ games (you always know the place is legit when a game costs 4 quarters) and a friendly bartender. We ended up playing all night sharing a couple of games with some local goofballs and ended the night by surprisingly wandering into a speak easy downstairs (shh). Easy access to the Juke box with TouchTunes kept the night going a lot longer then planned . Stayed till close and will definitely be back for a chill week night out to shoot some pool. Freddie's 35er is a staple of Old Town Pasadena. If you walk in hating it, I'm not sure what you were expecting. Try reminding yourself that you're in Old Town Pasadena, and you are in a sports bar. It's divey with a crowd that blends locals and newbies, sports-watchers and clubbers, young and old. You come to the 35er to have a stiff drink without breaking the wallet, to spend some time with friends while munching on free popcorn, to watch sports on their many TVs, to play pool, or even to dance downstairs (which, by the way, is often pretty great). Outside of my favorite bartender Sharise, nothing here is "amazing". But it's comfortable and fun. Come dressed up or completely dressed down; you'll still fit right in. We laughed to ourselves and said, "OH no no no...we went to college up in San Luis Obispo, this feels just right, thanks." 2 of my girlfriends from my sorority decided to meet up in Old Town to catchup and we were planning on going to Villa Sorriso, but upon arrival there was a line, a bouncer, and "bumping" music. NO THANKS. (note: there were still people eating in the dining area, bazaar) Then we headed down to Bar Celona - where it was pretty much a club, with icky guys and pushy people. Mojitos were good there, but it still didn't feel right. After we decided on the 35er, we sat with our strong poured Jack and Cokes and FINALLY got to catch up and meet pretty interesting people, to say the least. I do not have good memories of this place. As a child we used to live in the Block Building above the Cheesecake Factory. This would be the spot that my alcoholic degenerate father would go to get smashed with friends back in day in. Hell, in the 70's-80's old town was extremely shady, and this place was fucked up! Fast forward it 30 years or so, and the place is no longer a dump, just very old. It's still one of the few og spots in old town. I remember coming in here briefly with friends for a drink or two and just remembering the female bartender(s) being asses. Not sure if the name 35er means I need to be 35 or over in age to enjoy this bar. That could very well be the case because I found Freddie's 35er to not really be my cup of tea. The crowd is umm... a little less than classy. There were a lot of questionable outfits baring a little too much for comfort and some of the patrons were a little hard on the eyes. Drinks are averagely priced for a dive bar in Pasadena. The floor level is pretty chill with a pool table, a jukebox, and complimentary popcorn from their cute little popcorn machine. We found out the hard way that getting drunk and throwing popcorn everywhere while yelling "bitches love popcorn!!" is not well tolerated by the security staff. Don't do it folks. The downstair or basement level is a whole other story. There's loud music and tons of people crammed into the little space. Pretty sure it's a fire hazard of some nature. It was hip hop night so that's all they played. The crowd was as eclectic as they come. It's much harder to get a drink downstairs because the bar was so busy. I would say that if you want to have a beer at a dive bar go to Barney's Beanery, if you want cocktails and lounging go to Barcelona and if you want dancing just go to Menage. Wow I know pasadena has a history of having favoritism toward a certain demographic but I never experienced it in the businesses. So after an art show the wife and I want to have a drink before returning to hotel Constance. So I walk up to the bar and wait for 5 minutes trying to make eye contact with the bartender, then wait 5 more minutes then start waving and she ignores me. So 15 minutes go bye and a male 36 years old Anglo american walks up and she looks at him and says what do you want and serves him. OK maybe its just me , then two women Anglo american walk up and again what oh you want and serves them. I raise my voice and say excuse me , she yells at me and says "you Dont have to yell at me" you can wait I'll be with you and continues serving other people of this certain demographic. I'd give this place ZERO stars if I could. My buddy, his co-worker, and I stopped by here to drink a few beers and shoot some pool on Friday. There was this guy who was there by himself, that was unable to pay his $30 tab, and management was going to call the cops on him. After learning about his unfortunate situation and circumstances that led to this (his wallet was left in his brother's car and his brother had to leave for a family medical emergency), my buddy and I decided to pay off his tab for him. Some of the staff even thanked us for being nice enough to do this. But then after about 15 minutes, two large security guys came over and asked our new friend to leave because he couldn't pay his tab! I explained to them that the tab was taken care of. But they wouldn't budge! They said "it doesn't matter, it's policy." So I went over to the bartender I paid earlier and asked to verify this. Sure enough, she said they were still asking him to leave. WTF?! Sure, they have the right to refuse service to anyone. But c'mon! How are you gonna accept payment from us and then kick him out? So, needless to say, we all ended up leaving. Thanks for ruining our night. Un-freaking-believable. NEVER coming here again! You should avoid this place altogether. I suppose that since this is listed as a "Dive Bar," Yelp's survey would only ask when is the best night to go here. Since I've had something of a sabbatical from Yelp for a good part of this year, I will share with you the absolute best time to come here, and is usually the time I come here most: Sundays. Particularly during football season. Patriots fans may have some extra fun coming down here, but any football fan would have a good time sitting down for a couple of rounds while watching one of the many screens with all of the day's games played all day. The popcorn will already be popped, and if you don't get there early enough, you may not get a good spot, as they're sometimes saved for particular fans of one team or another. If you're partial to them. liquor girls, like the Coors gals or whatever are sometimes there to take up pool table space. Whether you're a die-hard fan coming down all jerseyed up with your good friends, or just want a place to watch the game and bring your knitting, this is definitely the place to go. Crowd- aging frat boy types, hoochies who didn't want to wait in line at the club next door, OLD men hitting on said barely 21-year-old hoochies. Things of note- there's a downstairs where live bands play, two pool tables, fooseball, jukebox, a ton of different high end tequilas, happy hour drink specials (lots of crappy fruity concoctions, Bud and Miller on tap-- wow) Overall, the experience was awful because I couldn't stop staring at the old guy hitting on the trio of chickies in front of us or the people playing naked photo hunt at the bar. Got home to check my credit card statement and to my surprise 35er added an extra chump of change to my bill...I'm guessing the tip section...my server was Sherise. Unknown to the old lady bartender I keep all my receipts and write down the tip I left on my copy as well! (I think everybody should do this). Well this helped me out a lot because I reported and faxed the receipt to them. And the funny thing is my brother was just telling me after I ordered our drinks that this exact bar jipped him and added extra money to his ending tab...he disputed it and won If the service she gave was even remotely good I would have considered letting it slide...didn't get a smile or a hey just a what do you want...and the pitcher she poured was 1/4th foam ...shitty service! I always used to pass by this place when strolling down Colorado Bl. in Old Town Pasadena and used to judge it by the looks of the clientele drinking outside. Finally freed myself from the imprisonment of preconceived notions, and now this is one of my favorite bars in Pasadena. A gem of a dive bar! Cheap drinks and extremely friendly bartenders that pour stiff. Forget buying a glass of beer, I just buy a whole pitcher of Hef for $14 and enjoy it all to myself. What a bargain. Lots of charismatic drunks in here, but mostly they keep to themselves and don't bother anybody. The hi-tech jukebox is always blasting a variety of music, even though nobody feeds it any money. We came here to look for a place to dance on Saturday night, and dance we did. I love how the top floor is a regular bar and that there is a dance floor on the bottom floor. I appreciated how there were fans and AC on the dance floor, as there are no windows in the basement. However, it did start to get stuffy as more people came in. Drinks were decently priced,and the bouncers and bartenders were nice. The only gripe was the DJ, who was playing great songs, but switched between songs too quickly as they were getting good.
