For what it's worth and whiskey sour
    Danielle S.

Tried this place out since it's close to our hotel. We ordered a For What its Worth and Whiskey Sour. The kitchen closes early so we weren't able to get a snack or food to munch on. The interior is very dark and intimate. The whiskey sour was on the sour side and the for what its worth was smooth and sweeter. If I were to order another drink I would stick with for what its worth.

What a great whiskey bar! We came here with some friends and had a great time. Excellent cocktails all around. I wish we had a spot like this in PV/San Pedro.

Walking back to our vehicles after dinner we thought we'd come try this whiskey bar out. A very interesting name that caught our attention when we were initially walking to dinner. Inside looks kinda divey. Bartender even said that this place is kind of between a dive bar and a cocktail bar. The bartender was ok. Not bubbly at all. Had a great poker face. Initially seemed aloof and off putting. But I get it cuz I'm like that at work also. So I get it. He's just misunderstood!! They are predominantly a whiskey establishment. I love how the back of the bar had all their whiskey bottles on display. Looks really nice. There's plenty of seating here. Multiple types of seating too. Bar top at the bar. High top tablee. Regular tables with chairs. Even couch like seating areas. It was pretty dead when we were there on a Sunday evening. Drinks were good. He definitely knows what hes doing. Never figured out why this place is called Blind Donkey. But a solid whiskey establishment

Great place to get a drink after work. Nice and quiet place to sit and have time to reflect on a Monday night.

    Hatchet job

We visited Blind Donkey on a Friday evening. The place wasn't too crowded yet, and we managed to find a spot at the bar. It's open seating throughout, and all orders are placed directly at the bar. We tried the Hatchet Job (Mezcal, Campari, Lemon, Simple Syrup) and the Pineapple Daiquiri (Rum, Pineapple, and Lime Juice). Both drinks were well-balanced and enjoyable. Service was good, and the atmosphere was relaxed--nothing too fancy, which was a refreshing change given the area. Overall, it's a pleasant spot for a quick, laid-back drink. Highly recommended if you're looking for a casual place with good cocktails and a friendly vibe.

Good bar ambience but they pour their Pliny into a short goblet which is unforgivable greed in my book.

Kind of a dive bar vibe, cocktail was pretty tasty and decently strong. A little pricey tho ($18). Not super full on a Saturday night

For sides, we ordered the mushroom medley and Korean roasted cauliflower. The food is so perfectly prepared. For dessert, we ordered the cookie and cream soufflé, a yummy dessert. They also gave us our anniversary desserts which are the yizu cheesecake and the fun cotton candy. We are very pleased with this wonderful dinner celebration. Thank you Alexander's steakhouse.

They provided complimentary bread service with their butter trio and it was incredible! Each butter had its own unique flavor, and every type of bread was warm and delicious. We ordered the grilled octopus as our appetizer, and it was perfectly cooked. It was tender with a nice char and beautifully plated with chorizo. We asked for the bone marrow to come out with the bone-in ribeye, and I'm so glad we did. Spreading the rich, buttery bone marrow onto the steak made every bite even better. The bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly with a beautiful crust while staying juicy and flavorful inside. Our server even suggested saving some of the butter to enjoy with the steak later, which ended up being a great recommendation. We also ordered the Wagyu fried rice, which was tasty with the roe. The broccolini was a great side. Can't go wrong with that. To end the night, they surprised us with sparkling grapefruit/champagne, a birthday dessert and cotton candy. This was an unforgettable dining experience. It's definitely a splurge, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. We can't wait to come back!

The ambiance has a perfect speakeasy vibe with its dim lighting and relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to just hang out and grab a quality drink. The cocktail program here is absolutely phenomenal. I am pretty picky when it comes to whiskey, and since Manhattans are my absolute favorite, my expectations were high. They mixed an incredible Manhattan that was perfectly balanced with the right sweet vermouth, and their Old Fashioneds are crafted with an attention to detail that really lets the spirits shine through. We also ordered a few Paper Planes, and they were dangerously good, hitting that perfect sweet and sour note that makes you want to immediately order another round. It is not just the incredible drinks that make this place stand out, but the exceptional service from the bartenders. They are super knowledgeable and treat craft cocktail making like a true art form, all while keeping the vibe laid-back and welcoming. If you are looking for an unmatched whiskey selection and a fantastic atmosphere in Los Angeles, this place is an absolute must-visit. Easy 5 stars for sure.

Having been here many times over the past decade, I've discovered some great bourbons, scotches, and had some great cocktails. But those days are unfortunately in years past. In a place that prides itself in its whisky, the bartenders are sorely lacking in their knowledge around their own bar. With an extensive selection, I don't expect them to know everything, but bartenders not knowing what is meant by a neat pour (straight out of the bottle into the glassware, no ice, and not mixed) was unexpected. I'm getting the impression that while they still mix old fashioneds, a scotch such as Ardbeg is now an unusual and baffling request. I've been here a handful of times in the past few months, and it can be lively or dead, but it's now just any other bar. If you want a fun cocktail you can find anywhere else, this place will do, but unfortunately it's lost what has separated this bar from any of the other bars in dtla.
