Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a Tromba margarita.

The 35er is an Old Town Pasadena institution. This lively dive bar has been family owned and operated since 1963. It's a popular place to watch sports and shoot some pool. There's also a cool little speakeasy in the basement. At the entrance you'll find a display case filled with Dodgers bobbleheads. They have an extensive beer list (about 20 on draft), specialty cocktails, and free freshly popped popcorn to snack on. The walls are lined with sports memorabilia and there's a juke box for entertainment between games. I had many fun nights here when I was younger. My friend and I were in the area and stopped in for a drink. Tony was behind the bar and he was an absolute doll. He's one of those friendly neighborhood bartenders that you would reveal your deepest secrets to. My friend had a beer and since it was Cinco de Mayo, I ordered a margarita with Tromba Tequila. It was tasty. My friend and I munched on popcorn while watching the Dodgers game. It was a relaxing evening and a reminder that I should visit the 35er again soon. *Adjacent parking garage (90 mins free) or metered street parking.

Had a great time at The 35er. I ordered a cider and an Old Fashioned, and both drinks were really good. The Old Fashioned was smooth and well balanced, and the atmosphere made it a nice spot to relax and hang out. Service was friendly and the vibe was chill. Definitely a place I'd come back to for drinks again.

We went here on a whim and honestly it was not too bad! It's your typical sports bar, and there was only really one bartender. So if it's just one, service might be kinda slow if you're a big party, but he was crankin the drinks out pretty quick. I like how even though it's a sports bar, it was fairly clean. They also have their own cocktail menu which was pretty neat! There's free popcorn to grab at the back and a machine where you can select your own music to play in the speaker (for a small price). Cause the music here is kinda whatever, or at least random lol. There are pool tables in the back, which I saw was $2 per play. Overall, not bad. We also went on a Tuesday night so there were barely any people.

Came by to bar hop..the service was good but the vibes were not it. Everyone just seemed down on their luck or sad, we sipped our drinks and left. Must've came on an off day.

The tiki bar downstair has some great music, overall a nice sports bar to get some drinks and have fun, drinks were strong :) They also have a pool table as well as some kool decor.

If you're like me and looking for a good hard kombucha in Pasadena, 35er is your bar! This place has a great vibe. The service was fast and efficient. Friendly as well! Tony was amazing. I am very happy with my time here. A chill place! 10/10 recommend.

Super fun place. Crowd was very odd, but the drinks were good and I liked how there was more than one bar!

This is my first time at this bar. The main floor is mainly different types of beer and offer free popcorn. Upon entering our IDs were checked and we were told that the downstairs consisted of Speakeasy and a tiki bar. Well we decided to give the tiki bar a try and how bad of a decision this was. The menu is limited which is ok because it had most of what we were looking for but at close to $20 per drink you think that they know how to make the drinks. We tried 3 different drinks- a piña colada, Mai-Tai and the Zombie. Why they all had the same color AND lemon flavor . This was a disappointing experience. I would stay away from the tiki bar. Two starts because we explained the situation and the manager got involved, tried the drinks and she agreed and we got our money back. But I hope this serves as an opportunity to get better.

Tony was our bartender. He was funny and had jokes. The only thing I could say is that I was a little indecisive over what beer I wanted, and Tony could've asked me a couple of questions as to what I usually drink and make some suggestions... But other than that place was cool...this is by no means picking on you Tony... you made up for it with the jokes that you made! The bar atmosphere gives me grown-up college frat vibes, which is cool... A lot of TV is good place to watch sports. They were playing good music on the jukebox. I liked it. I had a good time did not order any food... But it's a cool spot to meet your friends and have a good time.

It was a great place for some casual, mildly literary drinking on a Thursday night. The bar was in an alley, and I was happy to find free, easy street parking right outside the alley entrance. The alley was well lit enough that it didn't feel sketchy, though if I were inclined to beat someone up, this would probably be a convenient place to do it. The space was slightly below ground, down a flight of stairs from the alley. It felt like an Irish pub/sports bar with a tap list of California beers in addition to Coors Light and Guinness. Service was friendly and reasonably fast. I had a Made West Hazy IPA and a Pizza Port Amber, both of which I've had and enjoyed several times in several places over the years. I also ate some fries that were lying around, probably but not certainly by someone I at least sort of know. They weren't bad. I live kind of far from Pasadena and T. Boyle's isn't a destination bar, but I'd come back for another round or two after Vroman's. It's a comfortable spot with good draft beer, where you can relax and have some conversations.

Because the wait time was too long for that, we decided to try The Dive Oyster Bar -- and man are we sure glad we did. We got a total of five items: a bowl of clam chowder, the soft shell crab appetizer, the roasta, the traditional pan roast with the house speciality protein (with the crab on the side because of my dad's crab allergy), and the jambalaya, which for the last three we ate with medium heat. We shared everything (except for the crab appetizer because, again, crab allergy for dad) and found the food to be delicious, with each entree coming out tasting better than the last. Personally, the roasta was my favorite with the pan roast as a close second. Very flavorful dishes with medium heat being a good level for us (wasn't spicy for our Korean palates). Service was great, our server (unfortunately forgot his name) was attentive and quick with our requests, and although he forgot a side of rice, it was for the best as the food had settled in our stomachs by then and we were content with what we ordered. The restaurant itself is well maintained with ample table space and appropriate lighting, though the music from the evening DJ was a tad bit too loud to hear from across the table. Not a big mood killer for us, though mostly because the good was that good. We're not from this area, so the odds of coming here again are relatively slim -- but should the opportunity present itself, it'll be more than fate this time to take us through these doors once again.

When we walked in, there was a tall, bald male bartender and a blonde female bartender working--neither of whom I've seen here before. We ordered two drinks, but the service from the male bartender was inattentive from the start. At one point, my friend tried to get someone's attention to ask for a lime and wasn't acknowledged. She ended up grabbing a lime herself from the garnish tray--which I understand isn't ideal--but the response we got was completely out of line. The male bartender became immediately hostile and started aggressively cursing at my friend. When I calmly asked the female bartender if this was normal behavior, he inserted himself into the conversation and said, "she put her fucking hand in the fucking jar," in a very confrontational tone. I tried to de-escalate the situation and respectfully explained that there was no reason to speak to us that way, but he continued the hostility and ultimately told us to "get the fuck out." At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. What made this especially disappointing is that this has never been our experience here before. We've always enjoyed this bar and have had positive interactions with the regular staff. If this had been my first visit, I would not come back. I understand that what my friend did wasn't appropriate, but it absolutely did not justify being yelled at and cursed out. I hope management addresses this, because this kind of behavior is not reflective of the bar I've come to know.

Once a month our run crew, Pasadena Pub Runners, meet up on a Friday in Old Pasadena for a few miles and make a stop at a local pub, bar, or restaurant. Every month we support a new location. Our July location was Tiki B's. We had never heard of it and had no clue it's been hiding in the lower level of Barney's Beanery off Colorado Blvd. this whole time. The reviews made it sound like a dirty, smelly, dive bar with a lack luster tiki vibe. We were honestly all about it being so bad that it was good. At least for shits and giggles. We ran 2 miles before making our stop at Barney's. No cover charge. The hostess directed us to the stairs that led to Tiki B's. The bar was fairly empty except for a handful of other patrons. It was semi dark but there was sufficient lighting from the faux ocean windows decor and tiki lamps along the walls. The DJ was setting up for the evening's open mic night. No bathroom smells for us. We walked in with 20 plus people all ready to love/hate the place. We were served pitchers of water right away while we perused the menu. The waitress clearly saw were had been running. Apologies for bringing in a sweaty crowd haha. Most of us ordered on to two drinks. A few people ordered food. We enjoyed our drinks, took a couple photos, and discussed our take on the place. Pleasantly surprised was the overall take away. We were a little disappointed that we didn't hate the place since we had expected the worst kind of dive bar. I rather liked it. I didn't have a mixed drink but others enjoyed them. I suspect the poor reviews are mostly from tiki fanatics. But us regular folks took it at face value and enjoyed ourselves. Bartenders were nice, attentive, and welcoming. The beers on tap were fairly priced. The menu I held was not sticky. It was a fun spot that you wouldn't expect to find in Old Pasadena, let alone underneath Barney's Beanery. I would come back with a big group for drinks and karaoke. Service has been friendly, but it is lightly staffed and pretty slow, so it's not a good place if you are in a hurry. They don't keep an eye on the patio, so if you sit out there, it's best to go inside and let them know. They also seem to have more rules than before - but I have to imagine these have come from experience. I don't think this is an ideal place to go with a large group. If it's a quiet night you might be able to pull tables together long-ways, but most tables seem ideal for 2-4. We come with our dog and sit on the patio when it isn't busy. The dog meals are massive (more food than ours eats in a whole day and she weighs 60 lbs). It's a good value, but beware if your dog is on a diet! Overall, my favorite thing is that genuinely feels like a pub, in that you can just come as you are and take your time without being rushed. A good fit for both locals and visitors in Pasadena.

I already had my 21+ wristband on when I walked in, but this server still accused me of lying about my age and demanded to see my ID in front of a crowd of people. It was needlessly humiliating, and she was also curt to my entire party when taking our orders; she just seemed annoyed and irritated.
