Had I written this review a year ago, it would have been 5 stars for sure but I have to amend for what appear to be some recent changes. This is a simple local liquor store with a good-not amazing selection of wine and spirits. For whiskey, I always thought their selection was very tasteful and prices were probably the best in the city. They still have good prices on staples but whereas they used to keep highly allocated bottles behind the counter only and if you asked about prices they might have a small markup from retail value. Now a glass case adjacent to the counter is filled with allocated stuff priced at about secondary market value. I can understand this from a business perspective, in a way it's just supply and demand, but as someone who frequents this establishment for its local feel, I would have liked to see them deal with high demand items by making them accessible to repeat customers via raffle or just putting them out for everyone at retail prices. I'll still come here but it's too bad about the secondary prices mentioned above. read more

They are rude & have favorite customers. Chatty as hell with them. I'm treated like a 3rd class citizen. A booze dispenser sould never look down at me. I have a degree that surpasses all conbined. I doubt any one of them has a doctorate? Although I spend quite a bit the management is always rude. Staff is great. If they weren't so close I would go elsewhere. read more

This small shop is worth the trip from other boroughs for their Riesling selection and prices on new world favorites. This is the only shop I've found that carries all of the Tesch single vineyard dry Rieslings ($19 each), each is delicious. They also carry great bottles from Ridge and Grgich at the lowest prices I have seen in NYC. read more

I came here tonight on my walk home from the Q train, and I still love it. I'm far from a wine-o. Like George Costanza, I prefer a good grape juice, but this little wine shop had something that caught my eye today. A really big, really cheap ($10.99) bottle of Barefoot Moscato. It's really sweet, barely wine - this much I admit, but as a dessert wine, it's not bad. The shopkeepers are always really helpful, and can help you find a wine or spirit based on meal or activity and price point. read more

In particular, 36th Ave Wine & Spirits has a great selection for reasonable prices, and when you ask the owner for a recommendation, he knows his sh*t. He has never steered me wrong with what he suggests. They are also quite strict about social distancing measures and maximum capacity, which I greatly appreciate. read more

I don't understand the organization, but at least there's knowledgeable ppl there If you're looking for an organized wine store where you can go by region or wine type, you can forget it for 36 Av Wine. At least you won't see big signs listing these things. But at least the people working there know all the wines that they carry. I went in here looking for a Gamay, and they casually figured out that the Gamay is a grape grown and harvested in the Beaujolais region, and quickly led me to the section where they carry this wine. If I was to wonder in the store, I would never find it. Base on my experience in other wine stores, you're lucky if they know what Gamay is. read more

I live up by Ditmars, with many other wine and liquor stores much closer, but this is definitely the best one in Astoria! Amazingly knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the best whiskey selection in the neighborhood by far. read more

Very nice variety It feels like a busy liquor store with focus on volume (I do not know if this is true but this is the sense I got) with a touch of a neighborhood (old Italian) wine store. A very good selection of premium Italian wines as well as a few unique ones.. Prices are better than average on most items. Organization and separation is lacking but that has to do with the floor plan and décor as well... Almost everything is on-point here except the ambiance. With so many beautiful wine stores in Astoria, this one has to step up the décor to win me over. read more

They might not be the trendiest, but they have some of the best prices and selection in the neighborhood. If you want something specific not on the shelf, ask if it is available. They will usually order it for you. They have MANY customers who live in Manhattan but deal with them, as their prices are better. I call them "the wine guys", and Phil is a fan of single barrel bourbon-- ask about the fall tastings they have planned for those. read more

The guys are quite informed and have great deals near the front. Better quality and prices than others in Astoria. For example, the new Astoria Wines on Broadway is great but has one cab at $20.99 that these guys have for $13.99 (Sly Dog). Same with several others.
