Cute & imitated little theatre. Went to see THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS after a long day. Clean and nice setting and comfy seat. Love the structure and landmark. Just oldie but goodie.

4 Star Theater? 5 star experience :D This was one of my favorite experiences in San Francisco. I got tickets to see 'Hero' starring Jet Li... It was a visual masterpiece on the big screen. There were two staff members helping check in through a classic movie theater box, and also providing popcorn, snacks and soda that's made locally. Everything was so delicious. Their energy was so positive. I loved that they have maintained the original architectural aspects. There is also super cool shop attached that sells records books and other music paraphernalia.

Cute, classic community movie theater tucked away in the richmond. I bumped into this spot after going on a post dinner digestion walk and was surprised to find out they do FREE weekend matinee shows! Howl's Moving Castle is one of my all time favorite movies so I had to go and I was really happy with my experience! Depending on the movie, the theater can get packed so plan accordingly. Outside of that, this theater is also attached to a Tunnel Records shop with lots of cool offerings. They also seem to have other shows and events, so it's very worth stopping by next time you're on Clement!

Quirky, cool, amazing lil local theater with movies and live music, as well as visual experiences. Definitely keep a lookout for their ongoing visual and auditory happenings. Support this small business; they're really freaking awesome. Can't wait to go back.

Came here this past weekend for the Green Film Fest of SF, presented by Indiefest. Parking is horrendous in the area, but after circling around about 8 times, I lucked out with a spot right in front of the venue. Pretty cool theater, connected to a record store, or more accurately, it has a record store inside (closed off on a Saturday evening of course). The movie posters and art decorating the walls in the lobby added character to the place. Service at the ticket counter was straightforward and sufficient, and they sold snacks and drinks, including popcorn, pretzels, sausages, and ice cream. Sound and picture in the auditorium were clear and engaging, and the folding seats were basic but clean and comfortable. Cool spot. They probably should have called themselves "5 Star Theater."

It's so awesome to have this theatre up and running again in SF. The team at CinemaSF (who also operate Balboa and the Vogue) have done a great job. There are so many things to like here. First, it's an old and beautiful, single screen theatre. Second, they have a really well curated selection of movies that really reflect the diversity of people in their community. Things that appeal to me even further: always a solid selection of canned beer available to go with their delicious popcorn. Think barebottle or original pattern. And recently, Tunnel records has setup shop in the back, meaning you can pick up some tunes during your visit too! And while it's hard to say yet if this will be a permanent thing, they've started having bands play here! 4 star, you keep getting better and better. Cheers.

Fridays only to get "The Laundromat" pizza. Same owner as the restaurant on Balboa and 38th Ave. I stopped by, two choices: pepperoni or mushroom. One slice of mushroom, toasted. So hot, was walking and eating. I'm partial to no tomato sauce, which is what this is. Parmigiano parmesan cheese makes the edges crunchy like cheese sticks. Smells so good once it gets heated. Doughy kind of thick.

My husband loves movies so I thought it would be a great idea to rent a local theatre to show his favorite movie! Communication with Michael to reserve the theatre was easy. On the day of our event, we dropped off a balloon banner at the theatre in the morning. The kind and lovely staff helped us hang and set it up before our guests arrived that afternoon. Shout out to Serena for being so communicative and enthusiastic! The movie was a foreign film and the theatre was able to play the blu-ray DVD that we provided. (They tested it a week before our event as well to make sure it worked) The popcorn here is also very tasty! Overall our guests were blown away by this cute retro theatre that had a larger screen than we expected. They also enjoyed that it is located in the nice Clement St area. We were very pleased and encourage others to support this neighborhood theatre!

I finally made it to 4 Star theater, the latest of the Cinema SF theaters! Like the Balboa and Figure, 4 Star is charming, local, and independent. What's unique is that it also houses Hot House, a little record store and merch area within the theater that sometimes hosts art exhibitions. I watched Jaws here and loved the weird ads beforehand, including Weird Al's Jurassic Park video, inexplicably. Would love to come back here again!

But indeed I returned but 1 hour later- not for more movies, no. I've had my fill of those for a while. No, sir. The siren's song which called my name was the salted Popcorn special, A Heated Hotdog, and a cold drink of water. I was welcomed back by the staff and they even let me eat my bounty in the lobby. I played another round of Attica to boot and then I engaged a short and confident staff member with devilish good looks and freckles in riveting conversation. I told him about a dream I had. In it, I ate my hand, then my arm, and my shoulder and chest. Before long, all I saw was blackness. I dreamed in pure blackness for hours, unable to wake. He only allowed me to stay and speak to him for a short spell though before asking me RESOLUTELY and PROFESSIONALLY to leave again. Talk about a tight run ship! That guy is manager material. But at 7 pm I once again heard the siren's song and drove the 1 hour back to the Balboa. My new friend was gone, Christian I think his name was. Now instead there was a younger man with fetching glasses. He too let me dine only and not have to sit through a movie to earn my prize! This time I ate 1 Salted popcorn Special and 4 Heated Hotdogs. (The young fellow said, "hey you can probably get all this stuff for cheaper at the store." Psh! This Weiner ain't no Oscar Meyer standard faire camping dog. This thing is good good good! No mustard, No Ketchup, No Water to dunk it, just good Beef Dog.) I couldn't finish my last Dog. I offered it to the handsome kid, but he said no too. So I went into the auditorium to offer it to another Theater Patron. I only asked 1 RUDE man if he'd like the Dog. Who gets mad when they're offered free dinner?? The young bespectacled man lead me out of the room. Boy was right behind me, fast and agile. Kid could be a burglar. He asked me ALSO VERY KINDLY to please go now. Attica? No. Quick Game? No again. Wasn't allowed. I found a dog on the street outside and she sure was happy to take the leftover Hotdog that I coudlnt finish. Isn't that Ironic?

The exterior doesn't look like much, but the interior is full of character and old school charm, quirky decor and movie posters throughout, and a diverse range of showings happening here from indie films to cult classics. The auditorium seating is pretty basic, standard cinema folding seats with cupholders. Sound and picture quality was fine, nothing noteworthy but no problems during the set of short films we watched. The concessions stand sells popcorn, nachos, soft pretzels, hot dogs, ice cream, candy, and beverages. And merchandise was also sold in the lobby this past Sunday. Staff interaction was minimal, as it's a small theater in which we prepurchased tickets and had plenty of seats to choose from in the auditorium when we arrived. The venue was fitting for the event we attended.

I'd heard about it, but it never quite made it to the top of the list. Today my son suggested we go since admission is free on Saturdays for Bay Area residents, so we stopped by late in the afternoon -- and I was genuinely blown away. That's not an exaggeration. First, parking was easier than expected. The small lots right by the entrance were full, but there's another lot less than a quarter mile down the hill where we found a space without any trouble. Maybe we got lucky, but it was smooth. The setting alone is worth the visit. The museum sits among rolling green hills with views that feel very different from the usual tourist spots. The architecture is striking, and I was surprised to learn the building is now over a century old. The centerpiece collection features works by Auguste Rodin, and seeing so many of his sculptures up close -- in different sizes and forms -- was fascinating. It felt like a real privilege to experience them in person. There are rotating exhibits throughout the year; currently the spotlight is on Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot. I'm not a major art expert, but I still enjoyed learning about their partnership and viewing these Impressionist works. The unexpected highlight was the Spreckels Organ performance. We happened to catch the Saturday 4pm concert -- pure luck. The organ pipes are built into the structure itself, and the hour-long performance was mesmerizing. It's one of those experiences you just have to hear for yourself. Highly recommended. I'll definitely be back.

Andrew Pick, a pastel and oil painter based in San Francisco, trained at both the City College of San Francisco and The Art Students League of New York. His plein air paintings capture the city's streets, skies, and hidden corners with immediacy and intimacy. Ursula Xanthe Young brings her signature blend of intricate architectural motifs, feminine iconography, and dreamlike cityscapes to the space. Her work--well known throughout the Bay and beyond--draws inspiration from the urban world around her, reimagining San Francisco as both myth and Memories. This show was moderated by returning artist Rhonel Roberts, whose own work opened this series. This is a chance to hear the artists discuss their process, their paths, and the shared landscapes that inspire them. I haven't been in a long time, so decided to try out nightlife (adults-only night on Thursdays) so I could avoid all the annoying, misbehaved kids during the day. Not all kids (and parents) are misbehaving during normal hours, but a lot of them are and it tends to ruin the experience for others, which is why I tried out nightlife. I'm not a drinker, so I can't speak about any of the drinks, but the overall experience was pretty cool, with some caveats. The rainforest is only open until 7:30pm, so you have only an hour and a half to go there and see that. I suggest going there first. The rainforest is by far, in my opinion, the BEST part of the academy. So many pretty butterflies and birds to see. I love it. The macaws, however, were not there (they had to go to bed early). If you want to see the aquarium areas, it's probably best to do that during normal hours because a lot of the nighttime lighting was on, which makes the tanks dark and hard to see. I was a bit bummed about that. The living roof was cool, but had so much more potential. There are so many beautiful California native plants they could put there, but instead it was very drab and not super interesting. It was a nice quiet area to go to get away from people, though. The planetarium show was about the coral reefs, which was interesting, but short. I'm not sure if I would go to another show. I haven't been super impressed with their shows in the past, so it's probably a skip for most people. Plus, it was very cramped in there and no food or drink is allowed. We went on Filipino night (Mabuhay), which was the theme of the evening, so there was a lot of Filipino-themed food and vendors there. Honestly, though, I was not impressed with the food truck food. Super overpriced and not very authentic to Filipino cuisine, which was disappointing. $10+ for mid boba drinks... Yikes. $20 for some nachos or tacos (and the portions were very small). Yeah, I would skip the food and drinks and eat before coming here. So much of it was a rip-off. The music was SUPER loud, which I didn't like, but night life is more of a party atmosphere, so it's to be expected. At least there are places to go and chill out away from the noise. Overall it was a fun experience and I might go back. But I think to fully appreciate the exhibits, you should probably go during a normal day when everything is open and well-lit. I would probably just go on a weekday in September when school is starting and field trips aren't scheduled yet to avoid the crowds of people and kids. But I'm still glad we experienced it and we had a good time.
