Founded in the 1920s, this family owned gallery is housed in an impeccable French neo-classical townhouse. Matisse: The Pursuit of Harmony (April 9 - May 22, 2026): what a treasure to spend hours slowly studying and admiring Matisse's paintings, drawings and sculptures in person. I overheard someone from the gallery giving a private tour say that a majority of the works were loaned to them from private collections (can't recall correctly but I think only 6-9 pieces were from museums). I had enough time to go back to view paintings that really made an impression on me, especially L'Idole [The Idol], 1906, oil on canvas.

The security guards were so nice and welcoming, and even though the galleries were truly elegant, no one seemed snobby or distant. Most people - both staff members and participants - just seemed happy and excited to be there for this historic art experience. The galleries themselves were incredibly beautiful and - from a purely architectural standpoint - worth seeing. If you know someone who is into stunning buildings, then def take them there on a friendship or romantic date. Though this particular exhibit was a real treat in and of itself. People were pointing at various paintings and sculptures and going crazy over them. Perhaps the most amazing thing about this free exhibit, is that you don't need a reservation nor a membership to see it. One can literally show up without a ticket, stand in line and get in (when their time comes). Bravo to Acquavella Galleries for making impactful art and artistic education so accessible to the general public. I bought from Wild Geese at this address 473 Amsterdam, so it's the same place. So rude. Why didn't they just stick to art? Don't quit your day job. So many nicer things in New York and they didn't get a good crowd either. What they are now advertising as The Wonderful World of Jazz wasn't so wonderful for me.

It is rare to meet people with such a zest and excitement for people and music! The atmosphere is cozy and the music as well as food is always wonderful! The food is made in an extremely small kitchen but with great care so be patient! All the food is Made to Order so make sure to place your order early in the show. There is never a cover-charge for music which is nice. The music is also extremely varied depending on the night so you are sure to find something you like. It is nice to hear such awesome local musical talents! You always meet wonderful and friendly people and can really appreciate the feeling of being in a small intimate cafe. They generally will pass around a money box with donations that go towards the artists since they aren't paid-nice to contribute if you can! And, if you get there early enough, legend has it they may even have beer and/or wine available. We saw the remnants and it wasn't even 7:30pm when we arrived. I came for the Robert Montgomery exhibit which I am a HUGE FAN of his work and got to see a small solo show in Paris in May and a few installations in Berlin in June, now to see his solo show in NYC which is a nice one was amazing. Every month, they hold open calls for artists, and if you're selected, you could win a solo show and some cash. I jumped at this opportunity, and with that, I was able to do a solo show here last year. It was a wonderful time and experience. I would recommend doing any group show and solo show here. I'd do a solo show here again in a heart beat. Greenpoint Gallery is a very unassuming gallery. You'll get the opportunity to network and meet fun people and artists. Many works of art will be on display. Additionally, live music is occasionally played. There is a bar that also contributes to the gallery. The owner is an extremely cool person. I'm incredibly grateful for my solo show at Greenpoint Gallery. If you can, definitely check this gallery out.

In season (Sept- June); GPG is my first stop every Friday to kick off my weekend and recharge my creative and social flow. It reminds me of Berlin, Tokyo and Amsterdam BC its the opposite of NYC stuffy snob that's standard for gallery settings. It actually feels like nearly anything goes which to me is V relaxing and quite fun! This is how NYC use to be where smoking was allowed indoors everywhere. They are BYO and 420 friendly which I really enjoy! I've brought dates and friends there and everyone has always had fun and often walked away with cool art they could afford. Its always a fun experience seeing so many artists and I know its awesome for emerging artists to show off new works and network with other artists. I met the staff over the years and they are always kind and friendly. If your lucky; you may see a couple of white wolf dogs! I buy art there as often as I can BC the prices are affordable and I love to support emerging artists. I can care less that the art is exposed to smoke for less than a day. They don't take any sales commissions off the art sold either hence the art being affordable. Who does that!? They do! I know the Gallery is very community minded and helps young artists a lot by giving them a place to jam (music) on Wednesdays and show Artworks, perform and even create Art in the shared affordable art space. I guess if you found smoking unacceptable this place may not be your cup of tea, and there's no elevator or handicap access unfortunately. This is a must see if the parameters align with your being especially if you are a young art collector! 25-50+ new artists EVERY FRIDAY! Enjoy!
