I started out trying to get a replacement pilot light assembly for my water heater. They came out and discovered I'd need a new burner assembly too and that my unit was still under warranty. This was a time sensitive job... long story short when the manufacturer would not provide parts, their local plumbing supply house gave them a water heater to install and will send my old unit back for credit. I recently requested a bid from them to install a Rinnai propane heater. Jeff, the owner, came out promptly to check out our site before drawing up the bid. He was clearly extremely knowledgeable, offering me very helpful suggestions on the particular model that would work best for me, and on where in the room it would be best to mount it. To my disappointment, it turned out that plans for the project needed to change, and so I wasn't able to hire them after all. The estimate they gave me was free, with no obligation on my part. Still, I felt bad in light of the time and help he'd given me, and offered to pay him at least something for his trouble. Jeff showed himself to be as gracious as he is professional, declining any payment and wishing me well. I don't believe I've ever wrote a negative review.. but I have had a very disappointing experience with 49er Plumbing that should be heard. I originally called them for a bid on installing a sump pump in my crawlspace. They came out and gave a bid and it was all good. I received the bid by email and Jeff asked me to call the office to schedule a date for them to do the work. I scheduled an appointment for 9am on December 20th. I took a day off of work to be home for this. I waited for them for hours, and finally called them around 11:30 to find out what happened and was informed their technician called in sick for the day. It would have been nice to have been informed of that so I could have gone into work that day. People get sick and it's completely understandable.. just not sure why a courtesy call to let me know didn't happen. I rescheduled for the same time on January 6th and scheduled the day off of work. I made sure to call that morning around 9am to check if the technician was coming. I was ensured by Shannon at the office that someone would be coming out soon. A couple of hours go by and no one has arrived. I call back to the office and Shannon informs me he was running late and had to finish another job but would be over soon. I went to do some yard work, came back to my phone about 45mins later and found I had a voicemail from Shannon saying they had another 'emergency' job come up and the technician wouldn't make it out until 4-5pm. I stayed home waiting on them to arrive.. and no one ever came. At this point, I basically lost faith. I waited to see if they would reach back out to me to offer a reschedule or apology. I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing. I reached back out to politely ask what had happened and if they were still interested in completing the job. They said they don't know what happened and they apologized, so fair enough - sometimes things fall through the cracks.. I can understand that. Normally I wouldn't give someone a third chance after ghosting me twice, but they came highly recommended by someone I trust so I scheduled for a third time after some back and forth on when they would have availability. They scheduled to come out on February 12th at 9:30. Jeff showed up about 9:10 and I was happy to see him show up. I was right in the middle of getting a fire started in my stove and was bringing some wood inside so I said "I'll be back in a few" and he said he was going to go check out the crawlspace (where the work was to be done). I finished up in about 10 minutes. Didn't hear any knock/ring, so thought he was still under the house checking it out. I made some tea (about another 5 mins) and was heading outside when I saw his truck was gone. I thought he needed to go pick something up based on what he found, and they were informed I was leaving around 10 to take my wife to a doctors appointment out of town, so I didn't think much of it. When I got back from Grass Valley (around 1:30PM), he was not around so I gave a call to the office and spoke with Shannon. She told me he told her that he showed up but I just went inside and he was waiting around for 30 minutes so he left. This isn't correct. It was at most 15- 20 minutes.. and he made no attempt to knock or ring the bell.. he just left. If someone says they are going down to check it out, I think it's reasonable to expect them to be a little busy and I give them some time, and if there was a rush, then a knock would have sufficed instead of just abandoning the job entirely.. no text/call or anything.. especially considering that at this point I had waited on them on 2 separate occasions (losing 2 days of work) for hours upon hours when they missed 2 of their appointments without properly communicating to me what had happened. It's hard to understand how someone can make someone else wait around for hours and miss days of work for an appointment yet can't have the courtesy to wait 15 minutes or simply knock on the door. I'm just confused and disappointed because I heard this was the gem of lake wildwood when it comes to plumbing companies. I had high hopes. I was nothing but respectful during all communication and I'm sure Shannon would agree with that. Never blamed them, never gave attitude, never raised my voice, never tried to renegotiate prices.. I was exceedingly passive and respectful and was forgiving from beginning to end. It's also not helpful that it's impossible to contact or be contacted by Jeff or any other technician directly and everything has to be a game of phone tag with the office. Not sure if this is normal for them, but I can't imagine it is based on their good reviews. Did I do something wrong? That's what I keep wondering.. read more

This was once a good plumber but something has happened to degrade their service, competency and attitude. After a poor experience, I sent the company an email and was going to leave at that. That was until the owner partner or whatever his position called me complaining about my email. His poor attitude got me so hot, I've decided to post it here and let you dediced if you want to risk doing business with them or not. I had your company out to trouble shoot and repair a low flow situation in a shower. While you were here, I had a maintance operation on my tank less water heater. Your so called plumber could not get to the bottom of the flow issue but managed to make matters worse by buggering up the temperature control. During his visit I asked about the water pressure as there is a gage right at the pressure tank. I got an evasive answer about the switch rating only and my problem wasn't pressure but flow. Oh really! lf you don't have adequate pressure you'll have low flow. Does he not know this? I called and had him back out to correct the temperature problem that he created. He seemed miffed that he had to correct his screw up for free. Again I asked about the pressure without getting a satisfactory answer. I decided that 49er was no longer the competent outfit that it used to be so I called my handyman to have a look see. Turns out the pressure gauge was stuck at reading 75 psi and the actual pressure was 57 psi or very near my target pressure of 60 psi. The bad gauge will be replaced. An easy fix that anyone could find and remedy. Most importantly the cause of the low flow shower was a huge leak into the wall cavity behind the shower. A leak that was evidenced by a leaky O ring that when changed did nothing. Should have been a clue for a competent plumber. If you had one and if he'd bothed to look, which he didn't. We turned the shower on then went down below to have a look. An easy task in my house because its stand up accessible and easy to do. With the shower on, there was a lot of water flowing under the shower which we traced to the leaky shower fitting with the leaky O ring. Corrective measures are under way. You won't be on my call list in future. If anyone asks, I'll tell them exactly what transpired, and to beware. It's well to remember that reputations, whether good or bad, are always earned. read more

Every plumber in the area said it would be 3-5 days before they could respond to an issue that we needed addressed as soon as possible. 49er said they would put us on the "standby" list. We got a call from Derek in the early afternoon that same day saying that he could be at our home in 25 minutes. He was very friendly, calmed our concerns, fixed the two plumbing problems, charge was reasonable. My Rennai water heater ran cold after several minutes. It was not consistent throughout all the faucets in our home. Jeff scheduled me very quickly and due to one of his techs being sick, he came out and handled the problem himself. He was very professional. Let me start by saying 5 star service for Derek, who did a great job and had wonderful people skills. 1 star to Jeff for being rude. Jeff came out to bid the job and the total came out to more than double. When I called for clarification he was rude and it became a game of he said she said. Clearly there was a miscommunication, but he blamed me for everything and called me disgruntled. It was completely unnecessary and I never lost my calm. I had already paid in full and didn't call asking for money back. I have additional plumbing needs that I was wanting to hire them for because I really liked Derek and appreciated the quality of his work, but no thanks. I don't write review unless it's raving or bad enough others should know. Edit response: Jeff I am happy with the quality of the work performed and fine with the overall cost of the project. I am upset with how rude you were to me on the phone. I was curious as to how we got from what you quoted to what the final bill was when I called. It's inaccurate to say the parts alone we're more than the original quote, as quote was $500 and parts ended up at $308. If adding the second line doubled the quote the additional tasks of tightening a bolt and looking at at bolts that were stripped cost almost an hour time. Fine. But instead of blaming me for "not remembering " perhaps consider asking your clients why they are running the water line in the first place. I think if you knew I intended to install a sink and a dish washer you would question why does she only want a cold line? But anyways, if even if you think I'm in the wrong a little kindness on the phone would have gone a long way. Adding 1 star bc the rest was a great experience. read more

Our 8 year old Navien system had been throwing a ignition failure code for the last 6 months. We had another company ($$$) come to find the problem, for the inconsistent firing issue for the last 6 months, to no resolution. Finally, we contacted Navien directly who suggested 49er. Jeff and Derek came out promptly, worked with Navien on the phone to get parts warrantied approved, had them in stock (the heat exchanger was a biggee), installed the parts and tested. I called them to fix a complex water pressure problem with my bathtub, I explained that the problem was likely with the fixture and may need to have fittings custom welded so that the current hose connections could be eliminated to improve water flow. The owner said that they would be able to do this but he wanted to look at it first because maybe using bigger pipes would help. They sent another plumber out who said the connection was fine, but he wasn't prepared to put in bigger pipes and they would call me to reschedule. The never called back... I finally called and rescheduled. They came put in bigger pipes but absolutely nothing changed with the water pressure.... nothing except a $500 bill. No other suggestions to fix the problem, the bigger pipes still connected to the same exact hoses. So I told the owner I wasn't happy with the situation, he started yelling at me saying I was trying not to pay him and that I owe him money. That was NEVER in dispute, I never said I didn't want to pay him or wanted a reduced bill. I only want the problem fixed. I knew going In that this was a complex issue likely involving the fixture and needed custom work. I was expecting to pay around $1000 But the owner just wanted a easy fix and did not want to do the work needed to fix the situation. Instead he just wanted to attack me and accuse me of trying not to pay, for the simple reason I was unhappy the problem was not fixed. I can't recommend this company to anyone based on the fact they have not delivered any kind of real working solutions or anything close to acceptable customer service. read more

Hats off once again to the ownership of 49er Plumbing and Drain. During a termite inspection, our Clark Technician noticed damp concrete and basement soil. I immediately called Sharon at the 49er Office and scheduled a convenient appointment. Joel was immediately assigned (and from his previous work at our house replacing 3 toilets/kitchen sink faucet, we knew we were is good hands.) Joel called ahead before arriving and asked me what sizes of black ABS pipe were visible near the leak. I measured and also sent photos of the basement work/piping area which helped Joel pre-select ABS fittings before he arrived at the house. Joel arrived on-time (as Sharon had told when I called for the appointment), explored in wall plastic pipe options, eliminated potential exposed cuts on an outside wall to access pipe, cleaned up a tangled under sink dishwasher water drain and replaced all cracking/leaking ABS plastic inside the kitchen cabinet, inside wall and under the house in the basement fiberglass insulated workspace. Our house work task and our our confined area was extremely tough. Total cleanup of all removed piping/canvas draped work area. Joel always tests for leaks following repair work using 'a live water flow test ". . Parts and labor were of excellent quality and workmanship and well within our budget. Plumbing parts are always sourced locally for us by 49er Plumbing using Grass Valley's Sierra Plumbing Supply, so repairs are done with strong quality in-stock fitting(s) with no delay on obtaining and installation by 49er Plumbing. If you have a plumbing problem or consider remodeling, give them a call...they really know what to do with effective planning, response and repair. You will not be disappointed. On another job on a simple sink leak, it continued to leak after they fixed it and they wanted to charge me to look at it again! I am really disappointed in the customer service. We made an appointment a week and a half in advance but they basically bailed on us because either they forgot about the appointment or because "they are really busy". It seems like they are poorly organized and don't give a crap about smaller customers. They wasted a TON of my time, never came to fix my plumbing issue and the lady on the phone was disrespectful and tried to act like her poor organization was somehow my fault. The lady on the phone was very unorganized and had a bad attitude. She told me she would call me back on several occasions but then never did. I called to confirm my appointment the day before and I never heard back. The day of my appointment I called to see if they were actually coming and she acted like I never had an appointment. When I explained who I was and that we had spoken previously, she seemed to remember me but said I wasn't on the calendar. She acted like it was somehow my fault she didn't write down my appointment. She kept saying "we are really busy" like that somehow excuses them bailing on an appointment made over a week in advance. I get the impression she screwed up and forgot to write my appointment down. This is really frustrating, but I would have let it go if she actually tried to help me with my plumbing issue. Instead she tried to act like the whole situation was my fault or that it was somehow excusable to bail on an appointment because they are "really busy". Guess what... I'm really busy too! And I don't have time for poorly organized people who blame their mistakes on others. Ive been without a properly working shower for over two weeks and I really need some help! After all that poor communication and bailing on my appointment, the lady on the phone basically recommended I call someone else. It felt like she just wanted to get rid of me. So now I guess I need to find a new plumber and start the waiting process all over again. (Still without a working shower!) I've used 49er plumbing for several previous jobs and they did great work. I thought I could count on them, but I guess not. I worked with Jeff (the owner, I think) in the past and he was great, but after this experience I really don't feel like I can recommend them anymore. This was a shot in the dark that was well worth it. I was switching from a conventional water heater (in my attic) to a tankless water heater. Sierra Plumbing told me there were few plumbers in the area that were able to install these and they gave me a short list. 49Er called me back first. The guys were great. Once I got the estimate and approved it, they came out and installed it with no problems. They were polite, listened to my concerns and cleaned up afterwards. All was done within one day! I got a Navien tankless water heater, by the way, and I love it.
