It has a one-room school house where students of different ages, once sat and listened together to their teacher's lectures, in harmony. I always visit the old cemetery where some members of The Donner family, who survived their perilous journey from Missouri to California during the gold rush, are buried. The old mercantile building and the Blacksmith stable where the horses were shoehorned and cared for, still stands. The countryside is beautiful. The hills and rivers are gorgeous. This is a great place for families and especially for children who should know our great history regarding brave settlers who traveled from far and wide, by horse and buggy (wagon trains of home crafted covered wagons). It is always such a nostalgic feeling going back in history for me. Enjoy this great town!

The staff is super friendly and the campground is a quick drive to town, not far from Ironstone Winery and Murphy's. The cabin was spacious and we loved that there was some tree cover for shade. Also thought the cooking pavilion with sinks and stove burners was really convenient. With that said, was it worth $187.50 per night to stay in a log cabin with no amenities, that not been cleaned ahead of arrival? No, wouldn't do it again. Upon arriving to our cabin and paying $25 to check in 3 hours early we found it full of spider webs and leaves. We also noticed that when other people had checked out during out stay no one came by to check or clean the cabins. Our cabin had 2 ceiling fans, one of which the chain was broken or removed so only worked with the light on. This made for very hot nights. The bathrooms were close by and pretty clean but 1 of the 2 bathrooms was locked and unavailable for the majority of our stay. The grounds are pretty desolate, its all paventment and gravel. There is a sand volleyball court where you can also play badminton and a basketball hoop with a dirt court. The pool is not heated but in the thick of hot August it was refreshing. It is old and needs maintenance but did the trick to cool us down. The office has a store, but calling it that is a stretch. It has some candy, soda, firewood and ice. If you forgot something it would mean a short drive to town for provisions. For what we got at that price, I would not book again.

This RV Park has turned into a money grab. $90+ per night…read moreplus the fee to make an online reservation. Site lock fee And if you check in between 12 and 2 there's another $25 fee. Split the difference and just have check-in time at one like most RV parks. We come here 1-3 times a year. Not one time have we been assessed the early check in fee. We checked in at 1:35 pm and were charged the $25. The smug, smartass attendant charged me when I said I wasn't ok with it. When we came in January we were not charged the fee. People next to us said they came in June and weren't charged the fee. By the time we were setup I didn't even turn on the power until 2:05. SMH I tried talking to the higher ups but to no avail. They all point the finger at each other. Point to policy. But it's ok to close the office down an hour earlier than posted. Thats fine. I know we are just tiny fish in their giant pond but i did some stuff that made me feel better. Instead of having pizza and bowling. We skipped the pizza and ate a better meal in our rig. Saved us $75. Our friends that live in Jamestown took us out for our anniversary. They were taking us to seven sisters. They took us somewhere else after talking with them. We had a great time and that $500 was better spent somewhere else. Instead of dropping $175 at their over priced gas station, which we always do when we come here. We will fill up at home. Also 3/4 of the items in the store are not priced. Retail 101, the price tag is the silent salesman. Lastly, instead of making a donation in the slots I kept my money. Usually it's only a $200 for me. So because of their poor customer service We spent over a $1000 elsewhere and not at black Oak. I suggest instead of saying you're subject to an early check in fee, you should say it's a mandatory early check in fee.

My three year old son and I walked into the office to request a tour of the storage facilities. The…read moremanager had a large unleashed dog on the premises that was aggressive towards my son ultimately making my son cry. While I will not demonize any bread of dog, this dog was about three times my son's weight and almost as tall. The dog was bumping him with his nose / head and sniffing him aggressively, a clear signal the dog was in distress. Despite my attempts to get between my son and the dog, the dog continued to walk around me to get to my son and also growled at my son. My son stood still as he was taught. When I finally picked my son up because he was starting to cry even louder, the dog kept standing up on its hind legs to continue the aggressive sniffing, despite my efforts to block the dog with my knee. My son was quite upset by this time as the dog would not leave him alone. I asked the manager to control her dog, but she was unable to. She blew some whistle that had no impact on the dog, but she never made any effort to stop the dog, verbally or physically, beyond blowing the whistle. When we finally squeezed out the front door blocking this dog inside, the manager stepped outside to speak with us. I told the manager that she has no control of her dog, to which she replied the dog is not hers. She then clarified that the dog is in her possession as the dog's owner recently passed away. Finally, she stated that we (as in my son and I) were the first problem. What great tact, though I am sure she was trying to say she has not seen such behavior from the dog before. I had to remind her that she had no control of the dog and therefore has no business letting the dog run free. Obviously, we do not plan to rent here. We have played in their casino a few times - love the amount of machines and tables! Our daughter really likes their arcade as well. We also like to come and bowl - The Charlie is the restaurant inside the bowling alley which has decent food like pizza, salads and even sandwiches. Their other restaurants are the Black Oak Cafe and Seven Sisters - they also have a coffee shop, ice cream shop and bars! On top of it being a resort, they also have a new pool area with a kids' play area and an RV park! They also have an entertainment venue - upcoming shows include a Toby Keith Tribute and an Etta James Tribute! We'll be back soon! Check them out!
