Been going for several years now. Last summer we arrived to cabins that had not be cleaned yet. Our friend's cabin was completely trashed, as was ours. There was a woman with her toddlers trying to clean ours when we arrived. She said she was almost done, but it looked far from it. We just hung out for a while down by the creek waiting. It took a couple hours to finally check in. (Very frustrating when you take off work/leave early to check in & start your vacay. The pool says it's heated, but it's colder than the lake. The cabins have no AC. The beds are horrible in most of the cabins (between our group, we've stayed in all of them), with the exception of cabin 8, which has been updated with nicer amenities and beds. If you end up getting COVID, don't say anything!!! My cousin had Covid, they said she couldn't go anymore, and refused to give any kind of refund/discount. She had to pay her stay in full, and could not go :( Upside: location location location. You are a close drive to the lake. read more

Pinecrest is about as close to heaven on earth for me as anywhere. We stay at cabin three in Strawberry every time we go. It is right on the river with no obstructions other than a few trees for a beautiful view in the summertime leave open the big sliding doors and take in the sounds of the river. We usually call ahead or go on the website to reserve but now I found them on VRBO. The resort has a pool, and the general store is a very short walk to pick up ice and most basic necessities. Many great walks/hikes in the area just up the road you can hike all the way to Pinecrest and the dam. read more

This place is a gem! My boyfriend and I took our 3 kids and stayed in cabin #10. This was one of the best family vacations we have ever been on. The cabin was very clean, spacious and well stocked. The patio was also large with an outdoor dining area and gas bbq. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The kids room upstairs did get warm but they provided several fans. We brought a couple fans just in case and they did come in handy. The location is PERFECT. The river is a short 2 minute "hike" down. It was calm enough to wade in. Cabin 10 is right by the pool which is perfect for the kids. The lake is only a short drive away. We went to the lake for a few hours but much preferred the river. The hosts are attentive, friendly and laid back. We will likely make this our annual family summer trip spot from now on! read more

Cabin #8, 3 bd. 1 ba. roughly 900-1200 sq. ft. Smack dab in the middle of the property, very quiet, quite rustic but extremely charming and unpretentious. Views of the river (roughly 1000' from our cabin) via the front deck and kitchen. The cabin was equipped with a full kitchen, small entertainment center (TV - cable, VHS/DVD player but no stereo for music). Bedrooms are moderate in size, only one closet (downstairs bedroom, which is where we stayed). The double bed was firm but comfortable. Master bedroom upstairs has a king size bed (slightly lumpy mattress), large dresser and a TV and the 3rd bedroom has 2 twin beds and a small dresser. Rates off-season are $140 night (which is pretty good) but this was one of the less expensive, smaller units on the 9 cabin unit property. Rental manager is apparently very sweet (per the owners of cabin 5 - who've owned since 1966, hello!) except she seemed a bit short and unfriendly on the telephone. In person, she seems quiet and almost (a l m o s t) rude. This certainly didn't disrupt our vacation as it was (honestly) one of the best trips ever! Highly recommend just disregard the property managers tone when you call/arrive. =) read more

We stayed here with our family and had 2 cabins for the weekend. It was FANTASTIC. It was our first time taking our 2 toddlers (1.5 and 2.5) to the snow and it was such a great first experience! The cabins were clean and cozy. There was a small convenience store and restaurant at the strawberry Inn that were walking distance and had whatever you could need if you forgot anything. I loved that there was a place on site for our little ones to play and experience the snow without having to load in and out of the car and drive somewhere. We can't wait to come back and try it out in the summer time! read more

I Give them 5 starts so please enjoy I haven't been here in years sense I was a kid I came back to stay the weekend a few weeks back and this was by far the greatest experience! Cabin 6 was nicely decorated and remodeled. The place was spotless and very accommodating! I'm already looking forward to my next trip! My birthday is in oct and can't wait to go horseback riding. I love these cabins, I will choose to stay here again when our family gets together and rents a few of the Pinecrest Lake Resort townhouses right at Pinecrest Lake just a mile away. I prefer the quiet, riverfront setting of the rustic mountain cabins over the more urban feel of the Pinecrest townhouses. I have been coming up to Pinecrest for 40 years, and now I have a new "spot" to further enjoy the family tradition. The Rivers Resort Rentals at Strawberry offer a more genuine get away, and the river is such a perfect feature! The walk up to Pinecrest Lake, or down from the lake to Strawberry is amazing! Strolling along the river through the trees... Heavenly. Cabin 8 is really nice, and the kitchen remodel has a really great range/oven, great granite counters, a large stainless farm-style sink, and awesome ceramic tile that looks like travertine. Very surprising and well-appreciated in such a lovely rustic cabin! The balcony view towards the river is great and all out neighbors were tons of fun. My only complaint, and the reason for the missing fifth star was the bed/bedding. Compared to the rad kitchen remodel, the beds and bedding are soooooo outdated and worn thin. New mattresses and bedding would make this cabin luxe indeed. The biggest reason we made the switch is the pet friendly aspect. We travel with a super well-behaved dog, and this place was a perfect fit. Martha, the owner, was really great and incredibly accommodating from our first contact throughout our trip. We arrived to a very rude older lady, very irritated about something she had going on in her personal life (later to find out). We had to wait an hour because cleaning was running late, not a big deal. I pre booked this over the phone with a rep. at a certain rate. The cabin was very nice. As we enjoyed our first hour of the stay; My mother was hit in the head with a "green pinecone" from about a 30-40 feet drop from the pinetree, directly after the rude, very rude, lady came into the cabin without knocking asking us for more money. When I told her what happened to my mom she said there were issues before with those pine cones but, there were warning signs?! She said I needed to pay more because the price was for a 1 bedroom?! We booked a 3 / 1 bath, told the rep when booking the amount of people. Either way; they were rude, didnt care about the injury, tried to charge us more than we agreed on and were just very very unjust in the way they treated us. Maybe this lady needs a new JOB!? So glad they accommodated us for our one Saturday night stay during the fourth of July weekend. They usually book two night minimum but Martha (manager) was cool about it. Like prior reviewer, we also stayed in cabin nine, $253 all in. Delightful place, worth the price. Real clean and adequate. Cant beat the Awesome location proximal to Pinecrest, Beardsley and Dodge Ridge, and right on the river. Straight across the bridge is a kickass hiking trail complete with fallen log natural bridges, fern grottos and fishing honey holes waiting to be purged of tasty trouts. It's def BYOB bc the onsite store has nightmare prices and sketch selection. And I was too scared to even attempt the restaurant across street. No ATT service up there. One night too short, I'm def going back. read more

Beautiful and peaceful! Our family of four had a terrific vacation here last month and can't wait to go back. It's a location that makes you want to never go home! The river is beautiful and couldn't be more conveniently reached, the kitchen is well-equipped (in cabin #9) and I can't convey the feelings of peace and tranquility that surround you in this place. One note: Make sure your kids have solid creek shoes to wear as the river has some fishing hooks in it, flip flops wouldn't be adequate protection. My kids LOVED playing in this river for three days straight, we didn't even bother exploring anywhere else for the first part of our vacation. Then we made the short drive to Pinecrest lake on our 4th day and that was a beautiful place too. Free Wifi available at the Inn across the street. Verizon coverage was decent. read more

The new owners of this resort as of Jan 2020, Tammie and Scott, have done a wonderful job getting it ready for summer, despite COVID limitations. They are experienced summer-camp managers and really put their all into the property and customer service. The pool is great and the grounds are exceptionally clean. They are even setting up a new area by the river for weddings and small events. The river is gorgeous, and you can even fish on the property. The cabin that we stayed in was really nice! Couldn't have been cleaner, was completed remodeled, had high ceilings, an open-plan kitchen, and had no stairs between the car and the cabin. There was a huge deck with a gas grill and charcoal grill. Plenty of seating inside and on the deck for a big family plus guests. They had high-speed internet which is tough for a small mountain community. They had a smart TV so we could either connect with our computers for our own content, or use the Amazon, Hulu, or Netflix account already on the TV. Each cabin is owned by different people, so not sure what the other cabins offer. Some are more updated than others. My husband and I desperately needed a break from the stress of working and dealing with Covid. We're both high-risk, so it was hard finding a weekend getaway that would be safe. This is the best shelter-while-vacationing spot we could ever imagined. They far exceeded our expectations. I just hope it doesn't get so popular that we can't find a booking for the fall. We're already looking forward to going back. There is a grocery store across the street, and at least two restaurants where you can pick-up food. Once Covid concerns die down there will be more restaurants where you can eat in or carry out. read more

I rented at Rivers Resort 4 years in a row. The first two years were fine. The third year was awful because there was an overloaded house next to us full of obnoxious, loud teenagers and the manager didn't do anything about this house full of 25 people (code hazard???). The last year was awful and I will never return because the manager allowed another guest to use the cabin I had paid for. When I arrived to find someone else in my cabin, she said, "Do you really want me to come all the way down there for this?" She seriously expected me to stay in a cabin that had one bathroom when I had two families in my cabin, while the people who stole our 2 bathroom cabin had 3 people total. She refused to make them leave, she was too lazy to be present at check-in, so she made it possible for someone to take a cabin that wasn't theirs. I asked for a discount, but she only gave us $100 off. That doesn't cut it for the irritation factor for the situation or for having to live for one week with one bathroom with 4 adults and 3 kids. I've heard from others that this type of thing happens often. The garbage situation is disgusting. Within a few days of the garbage being picked up, it's full and there's nowhere to put your garbage...it's just overflowing...it's gross. It's too bad because the property itself is very beautiful and the little pool area is really nice. It's too bad the property manager makes this place so awful to come to...I will never return there because I can't trust them. I've rented from Darlene's Cabins for the past 4 years and I've been much happier and I haven't had any monkey-business since. read more

We stayed at cabin #5 during a weekend where we were blessed with lots of snow. The manager, Martha, was easy to reach & friendly over the phone. When we checked in, it was one of her assistants at the desk (forgot her name) who was friendly as well. The cabin was neat, had a well-equipped kitchen & even had a "man-cave" as my hubby would put it....a.k.a. wonderful basement with a nice gas fireplace. The cabin was close to the river but didn't get much light even if we opened all the blinds since it was surrounded by lots of tall trees. The snowplow doesn't go through the small road that leads up to the cabin so we had to haul all our stuff from our car parked by their office which wasn't too bad. It's close to Dodge Ridge & Snowplay so it's a great place to stay if you want to hit the slopes for some snowboarding or some snowtubing. Will definitely come back next year! read more

I had rented a cabin for 10 years with previous owners with No problems. I called and was told by old owners they sold and gave me new #. I'm high risk so for the 1st time in 10 years I had to cancel due to CORONAVIRUS. I was told she would call me back, 2 days no call then I was told she sent my refund...Days went by No refund. Then I was told it had come back because of my address. When I finally received my refund it was 50.00 short. I called her and was told, it was cancellation fees for both cabins ( I paid to hold one for my daughter too) and it was on my reciept. I told her I don't usually get a reciept. I call make my reservations and call about a month before to get balance and just send it in. I still have NOT received my 50.00. My opinion is the New Management has very poor customer service. And if theres a Nation Pandemicor emergency and you have reservations, you won't get a full refund as expected! read more

my family & i just stayed at one of their cabins # 9 and it was really great. The cabin was in very good condition, I think recently remodeled. Wood interior, gas stove (no wood stove or fireplace). It was 100 feet from the rushing river, you could hear it through the closed windows at night. This particular cabin had a double bed bedroom on the first floor off the full size eat-in (seats 6 comfortably) kitchen and adjacent full bath and then upstairs 2 good size bedrooms (queen and 2 twin beds) and a 1/2 bath. 2 cable tvs with 2 dvd players. A huge deck and ample size living room (sofas do not open into beds). Easy access and 2 minute walk to the strawberry Inn restaurant and a general store. if you're skiing at Dodge Ridge, this is a great place to stay and we will stay here again. read more

Stayed here for the first time with my family at cabin #9 and loved it! It was so peaceful and relaxing and the cabin was so cute...just perfect! The river was right there, we could see it from the porch, and Pinecrest was just a few minutes drive. My family and I have stayed at the Rivers Resort numerous times and have loved it- cabin #9 is our favorite! The location is perfect- close to Pinecrest and Dodge Ridge but away from all the crowds. It has a wonderful view of the river - last time we stayed there my son caught 6 rainbow trout from the bank right below the cabin and we had them for dinner. You can hear the river as you fall asleep at night- very peaceful. I love the way this cabin is decorated- it feels so cozy and comfortable. The manager has been friendly every time we have made reservations and the cabin has always been very clean and ready for us when we arrived. We have recommend cabin #9 to some of our friends who then stayed there and they have also had great experiences. read more

This was my favorite place in the world Martha the manger/owner has always been great to my family. This place has really gone down hill. I had the worst experience of my many years of my going there annually. First off we reserved the same cabin we always do as we left last year. We corresponded twice via mail with her once to send deposit and once again with the full about both times the invoice and price was for cabin two. We got there and was told we had cabin three and Martha was out of town and unable to help us I was in tears.... we paid for cabin two which is nicer with two bathrooms....then it continued to get worse the bedding smelt musty and gross lucky we brought our own. One room smelt of human pee and you could visibly see where someone had relieved themselves and even could see how it dripped onto the bed skirt and floor we had to just shut the room and not use it because again Martha wasn't there. The lady that was knew nothing and offered no help at all.... By the time Martha got there we decided to let it be as we had already told her employee and figured if she cared she would have came to talk with us. Our family and close friends made reservations last minute for presidents day weekend Sunday-Tuesday. 4 adults and 3 kids. We stayed in Cabin #7. It was beautiful. Very affordable splitting it between the 2 families. So much bigger than we expected it to be by looking at the website. The owner (Martha) was very sweet. We had a little issue with the electricity but HELLO.... you're in a cabin in the mountains. We didn't mind it at all they came and fixed it within an hour of checking in. The boys (both 5 and and one 2.5 year old) Had an amazing time. We went exploring ice skating and even managed to find a little snow. It was worth it to see how excited and happy the kids were. Being able to camp without a tent (my sons words) was awesome!! We all cannot wait to go back!! We're looking into going during the off season and staying longer. Stayed in cabin #3 back in September 2014. The price for the cabin is very reasonable. Martha, one of the owners was as sweet as can be. The only problem we encountered was finding our cabin. We arrived at 1 am and it is extremely dark! Couldn't see where to turn on the dark roads or numbers on the cabins. Martha had given me her cell# and was very nice when I woke her at this crazy hour and got us to our place ok. It's only a couple miles from Pinecrest Lake which is great oh and there is a cool bar you can walk to from the cabin as well. Loved it so much I just booked our stay for June 20th again.
