The older people who ran the place for years are gone. The new owners are less interested in making money, and not so much into the excellent service that they gave in the past. The guy that runs the place is a total and unprofessional jerk. He sets the tome for working with them if there is an issue, is extreemly hard to work with and has major attitude, is rude and espically to older and elderly customers. The office staff is ok still, though. But you can find better and more professional propane compays out there, and the other companys are way more straight forward and easier to work with with better customer service. What a joke. I had a leak, had it repaired, they came out to do a safety recheck and do a pressure test. All went well and passed. Then they made all of that paperwork disappear and would not do any refills until I did another test which is so unserious (even though somehow I have all of this paperwork myself). Left and good riddance. Do not give them your business. read more

Rude people, managers ability to handle conflict is laughable, this guy threatens to come and take my propane because I lost my job and couldn't afford the bill, I tried to set up some payments with him 300$ this month than monthly after that until I'm caught up, after they overfilled my tank on two separate occasions without my consent, shady business practices, horrible customer service. I tried to work this out so I can pay him but he and his dispatchers wanted to argue and insult me and my wife, shame on you guys, my wife has cancer she's a mother of 4 and one of our kids is autistic, life is hard enough without people like you treating us like that. read more

Receiving a necessary utility, such as propane, should not be difficult. But with 49r Propane, it was nearly impossible. This is a long story - but feel it's necessary to write since the manager just wasn't interested in what I had to say. We inherited 49r when we moved into our new house. They seemed fine. We had a full tank fill up when we moved in. In March, the tank was at 25% so I called to get it filled up. I was told to wait until it got to 20%. So, I did. Called - no, wait until it hits 10%. And so, I did. At 9% I said - we're ready for a fill up. Nope. You can make it until July when we have the special. As nice as it sounds to wait until propane prices are cheaper, it made me feel uncomfortable. July was 45 days away. The woman who I spoke to assured me that we would make it. No surprise ending here... we didn't make it. Called on July 2 - the line was busy -- for hours. Called on July 3, after 4 PM--transferred to the answering services. After waiting for 15 min, no one answered. Called on July 5 at 9 am - oops - the next available appointment is in 3 weeks. Wait, what?! Since it was important for Britney to understand who I spoke to earlier, I think it's important that point out that I had the following conversation with her: Is there anything you can do? No. Can we get a small amount of propane to tied us over? No. So, there's nothing you can do to help. No. Can I talk to the owner? No. Okay - well I guess we'll go with another company. IT IS ILLEGAL TO FILL UP YOUR TANK WITH ANOTHER COMPANY (caps = yelling). And so, it goes right down the you-know-what. The manager finally called at 4 PM and basically said the same as Britney and added that he really wasn't interested in our story. Nice. He said there was something he may be able to do, but he never called back. My husband said if we stayed with this company - we'd be the fools. So, I called another company and got a new tank within days. The new company is cheaper, tracks usage for you and has INCREDIBLE (caps = enthusiasm) customer service. I had a great experience today with Frank from 49R Propane. He was not able to perform the job because our gas range is not yet installed, however, he very clearly and patiently explained what supplies we could buy to complete the job ourselves. We had a real cold snap in Camino last night. Today, I couldn't get any hot water out of my propane tank. I didn't know if it was a propane problem or a water heater problem. I called my propane company, 49R Propane, and Kristin said that maybe my regulator had frozen, and would like to send a workman out. Not only did the Workman replace the regulator, but he also relit my water heater for me. And he charged me nothing! 49R Propane has been great from the start! I am so impressed! read more

This is a first class company. I have just gone through the greatest example of customer service failure and borderline illegal practices from AMERIGAS and 49er went above and beyond. I Called them at 4:30 today and I will have propane tomorrow! Not only that, when I told her what a great rate I was getting from the former company (which is meaningless when you get no propane) due to a Marshall Hospital employee discount, I was referred to another company for long term service that can match the rate since 49er is a bit higher. 49er found me a solution for my immediate problem AND helped me solve my long term problem at the same time. I have a single propane cooktop appliance and had Conforti Plumbing install the line from outside with emergency shutoff valves 10yrs ago. I wanted to use 49er Propane bc they r family owned small business. I am done renting with Amerigas. Instead I am buying a 100 gal tank from Lowes. Laura at 49er could not have been more rude talking over me at every word. I understand I need to get the tank delivered by Lowe's, call 49r with serial#, then they send out rep 4 an appliance safety inspection inside my home, then another person/appt to fill the tank. This requires 5 days (no weekend svs) plus a fill appt. Possibly up to another 10 days. I ran my amerigas propane empty to make a switch now no cooking for 2 weeks and basically she just laughed at me unwilling to provide any service relief. Sad, I really wanted to use them but they don't want my business. If you don't use 175+ gals a yr your not their perfect customer. Good luck to all read more

Wow! These people are such a breath of fresh air! Right now the owner is in my backyard hooking up a 5 gallon tank for me because they won't be able to set the big tank until the day after tomorrow. We just moved into this house and the previous owners 'gifted' us the propane in the tank. I was blindsided when Kamps called and said they would be shutting off our propane -that night! while In a panic I called 49er to see if they could help. A woman named Brittany answered and she was so helpful and knowledgeable. I immediately felt better! She told me that even though they couldn't get to me until Friday they would make sure that me and my two kids had propane for the rest of the week. This is seriously old school customer service the way that it should be in a small town like ours. I'm so happy that we found this company! read more

Poor customer service. No concern about customer just concerned about making sure the customer uses lots of propane. If you don't use the amount they want you to use they pick up their tank that you have paid for. What happen to conserve energy? If we are using propane we are using energy in the home. We are customers for life! I called 49R after our past company (Amerigas) gave us a 10 day window to refill our EMPTY tank. We have babies and needed it as soon as possible in this winter weather! Under 24 hours, they came out (in terrible, wet & muddy conditions) and installed a new tank for us. They gave us a great fill up rate! The crew was so friendly...even after I underestimated the distance of the road to the tank. Oops! I cannot recommend them enough and just so thankful for their hard working crew during these downpours. My kids can take a bath now! ;) read more

With the busyness of the holidays filling our propane tank had slipped my mind. This morning we realized we were completely out of propane! I called 49er and they had somebody out within an hour after several other company's told me they were over a week out! 49er was actually the cheapest of all the companies I had called as well. We bought a house a little over a month ago that was already serviced by 49ers Propane. Therefore I called 49ers to transfer service into our name. In order to do so they come and do a inspection, at that point I was informed their is a 2 year contract. Which I did not sign!! As expected their office called me a few days later to get the reason why I choose not to sign the contract. I told them I'd like to shop around because I do not want to be locked into a contract. The lady told me she would make a note to herself and follow up with me in a month. Here we are a month later a Thursday night were my kids are cold because its winter and dirty from school functions to low and behold 49ers Propane decided they could let themselves on my property and REMOVED the entire 250 gallon tank with NO NOTICE at all with the 40% propane that had already been paid for. No call, no mailed letter, not even a sorry not sorry letter on my front door. Okay we are going to take the bull by the horn and we will hook our small propane tank up and deal with 49ers in the morning. Nope wrong again 49ers not only took the tank, they removed EVERYTHING including the fittings! Awesome what a big F YOU!!!! So this morning I called Signature propane (amazing people) which I had already been in contact with to set up service because they do not require a contract and they came out and hooked a small tank up until my installation date for another 250 gallon tank. After squaring that away I called 49ers and spoke with the manager Dave which did nothing but try justify their actions. Dave was not apologetic the sum of the conversation was that they have the right to remove their equipment at anytime, nothing but argumentative and unprofessional. He tried again telling me that ALL propane companies require a contract. Well maybe it's time for 49ers do their homework as I already have.... Signature Propane doesn't require a contract also they have the option to buy their tanks, Kamps Propane does require a contract BUT in the contract it states if the contract is broken their will not be any charges, Amerigas does not require a contact, Golden State does not require a contract, Campora also does not require a contract, just to name a few. I totally understand that was their equipment but my issue is the way they went about it with no notification. What a awful company and clearly signing a contract with this bs company would have been a big mistake. 49ers did give us a refund for the gas that was left in the tank now off to a better Propane company, Signature Propane. read more

Not very happy with 49er propane my propane tank got hit by a trailer and they wanted to charge me all kinds of money to come out and prop it back up again we also had a driver come out and trying to install a stopper on my propane because they said I an handicap didn't pay on time I use heap program and they okayed me it wasn't fast enough for 49er propane I'm now looking for a new propane service anyone out there know of a good one in the somerset area read more

I recently had the worst business experience with a company. Here is what happened. I ordered gas for my tanks because they were running low at 49er Propane. They were not empty they were low. Meaning I had gas in there that I had previously paid for. They came out Tuesday. I gave them a card and they serviced the tank. I went to work Tuesday. I work down in Sacramento as an Executive. My hours are usually until 6 when I climb up the hill. Weds I had back to back meetings and did not get home until after dark. My husband works graves and 14 hours shifts. When I get home I have a message that was sent at 8:21 that AM saying my card did not go through. They close at 4:30. Ok, mental note I will call tomorrow. Thursday comes I leave for work at 7am to get to City Hall for a meeting in Sacramento. My husband gets home at 7:30 from work and falls right asleep. I get to go home early and I am excited because I get to take care of a few phone errands, bank, 49er Propane, Vet stuff and maybe even go to Michaels for Christmas shopping. When I get home my gas is shut off with no notice, less than 24hs after a call, no 2nd call, or a letter or message of expalanation. It was 2:30 when I got home and I called twice, left a message with the answering service, with no answer or return call yesterday or even this am. They went so far as to remove a pipe from our tank. Last night I had to send my daughter and 2 year old grandson to sleep elsewhere. Their answer to me from 49er Propane this AM. was I have their product and didn't pay for it. One, yes but it's less than 24 hours after your call that you disconnect me, 2nd I already have gas in there I paid for , and 3rdly there was no warning or notice given even after the shut off. They left a "Sorry we missed you" on our door and NO NOTE. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered and very backwoods. I am highly disgusted at their ethics. There are children here. I am not sure how these people have 5 Stars but I will be switching my propane company and sharing my experience with fellow neighbors and business associates. Less than 24 hours, unbelievable. Yeee haaa for 49er Propane. What a way to treat people during Holiday times. read more

It is very frustrating when one is trying to use a local business and keep the money local and that business is not treating you nice, not very happy with this company I have been a customer for 4 plus years and I have been trying to I get at the office people to help me understand how the price increase and decrease Works throughout the year well last year when I called one of the girls explained to me that the lowest price is on the beginning of October when they get there $0.10 off for trick or treat so I did what she suggested I called a year after our conversation which is this year and they told me when I did ask what is the lowest price for propane they said the month of July and that is why I am very unhappy with this company they have been giving me the runaround for all those for years I am so upset with people that lie and people that are so greedy so long story short for all you customers out there around July is the cheapest gas you can buy and also if you were to ask them when the price is going to go up they never say when it will they just say the price just goes up read more

They have always been fabulous to work with, whether we were renting a tank from them or owning our own tank. I called after none of the other big propane companies would bother coming out in less than a week, even though I told them I was nearly out of propane which powers my heater. A couple of those companies were very expensive and charged expensive fee's for a safety check (JS West and Kamps). I have been no/showed by 49r Propane 3 times since we bought this house in Placerville CA. Today was my last hope that they would arrive. They did not. I called around 4:45 to see if there was a problem. The lady that answered the phone for 49r propane said that she did not see my apt. which I made a week ago. I specifically made it for today for other reasons. Lets just say I know for a fact it was today not possible any other day. The woman never called me back. After 3 times 49r Propane not showing up never calling me to say hey sorry something came up is another day possible? No just a flat out no/show. First off if you are stuck like us since we bought this house with a 49r propane tank already here and it's rented from them so I will have to get it taken out a new one put in or deal with there lack of customer service. Don't you think they know your at there mercy. Read all reviews and ask your neighbors before you get stuck with a company that neglects customers like this. Maybe they don't need your business they must have to many customers already. Not sure why this no/show is happening. The propane tank at our house came with it when we bought it. The prior owners of this house used this propane company for years and were happy, so I decided to give them a call. Last summer I called them and a couple other propane companies in Placerville. Except for this company, all the others said to start off my account just to buy propane, I would have to pay a fee. I chatted with Sierra, the woman who answered my call, and she told me when to buy propane, July and August, for the cheapest price. We didn't end up needing any last year, no problem, she was still very helpful. then this year I kept calling to find out how the price was doing. She was always friendly and answered my questions willingly. In the end, we had to buy in June, due to driveway replacement timing, so called, got a good price, tho she did tell me that waiting would net me a better one. Sent the necessary paperwork by email, and I faxed it back that day. That afternoon the truck came by with a helpful guy to put in the propane, answered my questions re: the length of their filling hose, and then took my payment info. Now I have a full tank, and am set for the winter. I can only recommend this company, despite the other negative review. read more
