This USED to a 5 star company. The family that ran it was a great outfit. Lat year, they were taken over by Ferrellgas. If I could give Ferrellgas a negative 20 review, I would. They are THAT BAD. I just went through another one of their preventable mistakes that has me spitting mad. When I think of Ferrellgas now, I think of FerrellFailure instead. Ferrellgas, from the very start, has treated me horribly. I have been left for days without propane, in the dead of winter without heat because the 24 hour line at Ferrellgas doesn't work. All calls are routed to their national call center. The people there do NOT follow through on promises when you call in. People at Ferrellgas are NOT accountable. So trying to get help from them is a case of near futility. My last go around with them sealed the deal. Three weeks of trying to get my tank filled because of a preventable mistake at their end. I'm on the hunt to escape from their clutches and find a new outfit with actual people working there. I literally despise that company now. I have had one dispute after another with the Ferrellgas corporate office over mistakes made by their personnel. I have been talked down to, or talked AT by their Facebook reps who are well versed in Corporate-Speak and refuse to TALK with customers as people. Customer service is the LAST thing Ferrellgas is about. Period. It's more about running roughshod right over people, and treating them as an afterthought. Their CEO has been in the business far too long and lost touch with reality long ago. Propane is a FAMILY business that is based on caring. Once a Corporate monolith takes over, this is the kind of thing that happens. It looks to me like the upper tier doesn't give a damn and this has flowed down the line to the rest of the work face. At this point, I'm finished. Stay away from this company at ALL costs, and save yourself heartache!!!! I'm currently looking for a family owned company that has ACTUAL HUMAN BEINGS working for it. Horrible customer service... we thought we had a leak, turns out the tank was just super low (which was filled a few months ago). Tank is huge, no way we went through it all. We have a special needs child in the house and when we asked if it could be expedited, Ruben was super rude to my mom and instead of saying they were doing all they could he told her that she could say whatever she wanted and nothing could be done to expedite. We understand this was our mistake, however, we were still in a predicament. If I was rude to my customers, I wouldnt have a business. read more

Wholesale rate the week of our last fill was $0.72/gal. We were charged $2.599/gal. which is over 360%! We were charged $359.61 during the extreme heat/red flag warnings in mid-August. I wouldn't recommend Golden State Propane under any circumstances. We were curious to see if the consolidation with Ferrellgas changed the price gouging wehave experienced but it has not. Says our estimated next fill date is 12/20 so we're working on finding a new supplier. read more

By far the worst customer service my husband and I have ever had. They went on our property without permission and removed our tank that was 40% full. There was no warning, no letter, no call. My husband came home and to his astonishment there was no tank. This means no shower, no laundry, no heat, no fireplace, no dishwasher and no cooking on our stove. When my husband called, the lady was extremely rude and didn't care. She said the tank was abandoned and they no longer service our area. It's obvious that we live there because we have a welcome sign at the door with our names and potted plants on our porch that are alive. The worst experience we have ever had. Go elsewhere. Do not use them for propane. read more

Poor customer service. I am renting a house, just me, one person and went into to the office to ask to have the tank, 325 gallons, filled along with paying for tank rental. I explained to them that the house was being renovated and that no one was living in at the time. The office person, Laurie, did not warn me that there is a $70 fee if you don't use enough propane. When I called to ask about the fee, she was rude, no apology, just a "that's our fee, the home owner signed the agreement". She should not be dealing with the public. The tank has been removed, switched to a new company, but want to give thanks to John, the service tech from Ferrell gas who picked up the old tank, he was friendly, polite and knowledgeable. They need more people like him. read more

Had a bad experience with another company and switched to this company after reading their positive reviews. They came out and replaced my tank and were great. When I told them the story about my terrible rate increase with the former company, they shook their head. They did not understand why a company would behave that way but were grateful for the steady flow of new customers they receive on an ongoing rate as a result. read more

I have never written a bad Review before, that is how bad the customer was at this business. Laurie who is apparently the manager was the rudest person I have ever encountered. Here is a little background. First we have asked them to call and speak with us before delivering or wait until we called them because we are on a budget, they failed to do that every single time. Secondly they made another of their not needed or wanted deliveries, so we called to tell them we did not want or need that delivery. They were very rude and belligerent during that phone conversation and every other conversation we have had with them. So we sent in a payment, they sent it back voided and said we were paid in full. So we thought ok they made the mistake for delivering the propane without contacting us so maybe they paid it and left it that. That's what a good business manager would do. Then about a month later we received a phone call saying our bill was 48 days past due, so we called them and spoke with another rude front desk person and told them what they sent us in the mail. Later that day they called back and said our bill was paid in full. The next day Laurie called and left a belligerent message on our voicemail and said they made a mistake and we needed to pay our bill. So I went in to the office and had the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. She would not let me speak,, she was practically spitting at me when she spoke and told me we would need to find a new propane company. I maybe said 3 sentences, and as I walked out of the door she was still screeching at me. If she would of handled this in a friendly mature manner there wouldn't have been any issues. The one positive experience I had were that the men in the office were very friendly and HELPFUL. That's all I would have asked for, the situation could have been handled so much better. A little friendliness goes a long ways, especially when dealing with customers. read more

We have been using Golden State Propane for 15 years and have always gotten good, courteous service as well as competitive prices. Laurie treats us right and never tries to push extra propane on us. Several years ago we got lured to another company by an extremely low price but then the refill price was exorbitant. Lesson learned. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Golden State Propane for 0ver 10 years. This is my first complaint about the Company. My wife always pays the bill on time when it arrives. We have been leasing the 250 gal. tank since we bought the house new in 2001. The tank was already there when we purchased the home. Every year we would get a tank lease bill from the company for $60. Today we got our annual bill for $100. with the hand written note across it stating "Your tank has been raised due to extremely low gas usage the past several years. Thank You " signed Laurie. This makes no sense to me, we try to conserve energy and get penalized for it. Can you imagine PG&E stating you don't use enough electricity so we are going to charge you more?? We moved into a house that had this company and was metered along with 3 other houses on the street. All the other neighbors were in an uproar about this fraudulent company and how they're propane bills were over $350 a mo. for a 1300 sq. Ft. House. They also wanted a $350 deposit to start service..ugh! Not only did the lady that worked there..Laurie...speak badly of the other neighbors, but she lied about there being a leak in their euquipment. When we finally cancelled their services. Laurie started calling every day for payment..when we hadn't even received a bill yet! It still is not even 30 days late and she continues to call and leave threatening messages on our door demanding payment in 7 days or they will send us to collections. Wtf? We want to measure their supposed usage with the new company to see if theirs was correct before we pay. I will never sign up with Golden State propane and I would advise the same for any other consumer. read more

We have been more than ten years now with Golden State Propane, starting right when we built the house. The drivers are professional and friendly. I always get Laurie when I call the office and I can't say enough nice things about the consistent excellent customer service she provides. I am kind of a shopper though, and after every couple of fills, I call around for pricing comparisons, but the Golden State price is always equal to, or less than, the other prices I get.
