We have been AmeriGas customers for about 3 1/2 years at the property we have been renting while real - estate shopping and remodeling a house. Service is been reasonable but my experience today has been extremely disappointing. We are on a will-call service basis, which means I need to check the propane tank routinely. Apparently I've been busy, forgot, and let the tank nearly run out. When I found that I had no hot water this morning, I went out to check the gauge and found that the propane level was nearly at rock bottom. Seeing an impending crisis with the weekend looming, I called AmeriGas. I was informed that a truck could come to my house within five days to a week. WHAT???? I was also informed that I could receive "expedited" service - which meant that the truck would arrive on next Tuesday. Today is Friday. This means that we'll have a minimum of three days without being able to use the stove or to have hot water other than what I heat up in my electric teapot. Did I mention that the "expedited" service will cost an extra $150? Granted, it's a first world problem, and in another life I could be a Syrian refugee. I also acknowledge that I bear responsibility for letting the tank get so low, but geez..... I have attempted to get us on "auto fill" service for some time and have apparently been unsuccessful. What particularly bothers me is that the customer service rep appeared to be completely unsympathetic. Suffice to say, I'm glad that at our newly remodeled home we have Kamps propane instead of AmeriGas. read more

Review for AmeriGas Corporate and El Dorado County If I could give zero stars, I would. Yesterday I had my four grandkids over, and one accidentally bumped the knob on my propane stove (which turn far too easily). I immediately smelled propane, opened windows, and took the kids to a nearby playground to keep them safe. After about 30 minutes, the smell hadn't cleared, so I called AmeriGas's emergency line to err on the side of caution. The response was unacceptable. The on-call technician told me he had just left a birthday party, didn't have his truck or tools, and it would be an hour after retrieving them before he could come. For an emergency? Completely unreasonable. AmeriGas failed on multiple corporate levels: 1. Preparedness - Emergency personnel weren't equipped to respond immediately, which is unsafe and negligent. 2. Response Time - Their system would have left four children and me in a house with a propane leak for over an hour. The fire department arrived in 10 minutes and resolved the situation. 3. Customer Treatment - After the fire department cleared the house, AmeriGas threatened to charge me and locked my propane tank, leaving me without gas for cooking or bathing. 4. Communication Failure - The tag left had no phone number, no company name, no technician name--no identifiers at all. 5. Support Failure - Calling their main number, no one answered, and I was told I'd "probably have to wait until Monday." 6. No Resolution - The technician made no effort to help me resolve the situation with the company. AmeriGas punished me for their own failures and left me stranded, while the fire department handled the emergency professionally in minutes. I will never recommend AmeriGas. Still the worst - PRO TIP - if your trying to get rid of AG Propane, DO NOT tell them that you are canceling. Just tell them to remove the tank so you can put a personal larger tank. If you cancel service they will take 3-5 months to remove. If your getting a bigger tank they will remove within a week or two, just be prepared they will NOT call. They will just show up and charge you $500 to remove. Soooooo glad to be done with these overchargeing clowns. read more

I own my 500 gal tank and I called Amerigas for a price quote around Sept 1st and was scheduled for the fill-up on the 15th. About Sept 20th Ferrellgas (without consent) started filling my tank and my wife saw this and stopped them. Amerigas had quoted $1.50 per gal and ferrellgas price was $1.90. Ferrellgas had already pumped 100 gal before my wife stopped them. Farrellgas could not say who authorized the fill-up. I then began the phone oddesy with Amerigas where you fight your way through their automated phone system only to be left waiting for a human that never answers and listening to a mind numbing loop of elevator music.. I played that game for three days wasting approximately 35 minutes per day and never spoke to a human. Since my first call to amerigas went right through to place my order, I can only assume their phone system is set to reject returning problem calls. Don't waste your time with amerigas !! read more

I called to get a new install. It took 3 phone calls and a $249 site visit fee. They then scheduled me for an appointment for an install. I was requesting a 500-1000 gallon underground tank. I called 2 more times to verify the understood. You know when ya have a gut feeling about something..... Well I was right. The service truck shows up to look at my property AGAIN and ask what I needed. I explained and he said they don't dig and I would have to do the extra work. I became an unwilling Amerigas customer at the house I have been renting since October 2023. In this time, I have been billed for undisclosed charges to the tune of $250+, and I have had payments withdrawn from my bank multiple times because auto-pay turned itself back on without my consent, resulting in what I consider theft. Both times, I have ended up paying fees to my bank because, as a person on a fixed income, I didn't have the money to cover multiple payments. I called for service because, as someone who has not used propane service in the past, I was seriously concerned that our gauge was not working. I was not notified that, because nothing was broken, I would be charged a $100 (plus tax) service fee. Probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Cannot get ahold of a US or local representative....all customer support is in India and they can barely speak english. We switched to Amerigas when we bought our new home. Initial contact was US Based and very helpful....after that pure horror!!!. Workers kept other companies blocks, regulator and pigtails. Other company wanted them back. After multiple calls finally got a call from Sean a local agent and said he would return the other companies parts....then they have the gall to charge us $107 for a service call. My business is located next door to a property serviced by AmeriGas. Over the past several months, every time their drivers come to make deliveries, they have caused damage to my property. They've destroyed planters, damaged plants, broken fences, and even torn electrical conduit off the exterior of my buildings--all with no apparent regard for how they perform their job. I've made multiple attempts to contact the company to resolve this issue and prevent further incidents, but they are nearly impossible to reach. Hello This is warning about using Amerigas in the Eldorado and that I have called them several times. They delivered propane to my tanks without me knowing about 235 gallons delivery about 788 dollars billed to me and I have talked to someone that is hard to understand on the phone 6 calls and was on hold for more than 2 hrs. Someone has been steeling gas and I installed video and when the gas delivery was in process, I called the company and asked why are delivering and doing and they delivered any ways. As a customer for Amerigas, you will have to live without hot water, or a means to cook anything for at least a few days, at most, up to 5 weeks due to not being home, even though there is full access to the tank. My gauge never worked, and the estimated guess on their website is off, or the techs simply do not fill up the tank as paid for. I smell a scam somewhere. Customer service the worst. read more

I rarely post Yelp reviews. There is a reason this company has a 1 star rating on here. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Issues started two years ago when we ordered a refill. Never showed up. Called multiple times for updates. "Oh, we will get you expedited service on Saturday". Never showed up. Called back to complain. "I don't know who said that, we don't deliver on Saturdays". Agents just lie straight to your face to get you off the phone. They know they are hot garbage. My lease contract was expiring on October 22nd. I called and said "I would like to cancel my service effective October 22nd, so as to not incur early termination penalties". Confirmed multiple times. Not until October 22nd. On October 11th, I miss a call and get a voicemail saying they are on their way to pick up my tank. They pick it up. GUESS WHAT, they charged me for early termination. Now I have to deal with the labyrinthine horror that is their customer service to cancel the $175 fee they are trying to ILLEGITIMATELY charge me. Oh, and they also charged a $200 tank pickup fee that was never disclosed. You have been warned. Avoid these low life scammers at all costs. Then you call and the call center numbers you are supposed to hit do not correspond to where you are routed to. A very messed up company that all the person does is apologize with no reasoning. Horrible company!! They don't actually read the meters and send you a bill based on an "estimated" meter reading which is 3 or 4 times what you have actually used. Good thing I looked over my elderly mother's bill and checked her meter. Also they add on a 36$ late fee if you don't pay the exact amount they want for the gas you haven't used! We just switched to Thompson and they seem legit AND close to $1.30/gal less than AmeriGas. If you are already with AmeriGas, do yourself a favor and check your invoices to your meter. read more

Well, it hardly seems worth it to add another one star review to all the others. But Amerigas has been such a disappointing and frustrating company to deal with--taking all of our time and effort just to get our propane delivery before we are completely out in the wintertime. One of the problems is that there is no way to talk to a live person at Amerigas without long, long waits... and THEN, whoever we speak to apparently has no relation to our local service. We have been promised delivery 'within 5 days' now for over a month. No delivery. When we called yesterday to say "it's an emergency" the new person on the phone said we are not even scheduled for a delivery. There is a lot of worry that goes into watching a propane tank run dry. Temps here are 28 degrees at night now. We are watching our propane tank run down to 15% full, 10% full, close to empty now, and watching out the window daily for the propane delivery person to show up. We shouldn't have to chop wood, or open the oven to warm up the kitchen... we shouldn't have to sit on endless waits on the phone to get a person to help. (and then they don't help!) We will be terminating service today. I understand we may be stuck with an old rusty propane tank in our front yard waiting for Ameritrade to come pick it up. Spent an hour on the phone trying to order a refill of our propane tank. First the WEB site wouldn't process the payment for echeck or debit card. Then, the automated system they transfer you to wouldn't correctly repeat the account number. This is the third year in a row we ran into these same problems. When this tank is empty it's GONE! There are other propane companies in the Cameron Park area with very good reviews. The Website always has problems and they outsourced their customer service to India and it's HORRIBLE!! The only bright side to this is we got a small discount after we finally succeeded in completing the automated phone payment process. I will never use Amerigas again. read more

Got a quote from several propane companies, Amerigas had the best price. Went to order, and they said I had to have a leak test done, because it was 2 years since I got propane from them. I still have propane in the tank, and they want to charge me $140 for leak test? They said it was a law, and they had to do it. Renter out a house in Placerville with Amerigas propane set up. They came out and disconnected the propane tank because the prior tenant had the account. That's fine. Set up with Signature propane and called Amerigas to pick up their 6 foot tank...that was last year. I was billed me $108 for a service call that never happened on 02/04/2023. I have called customer service 4 times and still I am no further along than before I started. They keep saying it will be resolved, but absolutely nothing is done. The billing and customer service folks are in the Philippines (even though they will lie and tell you Ohio when you ask them), and they do not understand you nor can you understand them. I called to order gas on 11/6 and they didn't come out until 11/16 and said there was an issues with my tank so they would send a service pro out, the service pro came out a week later and said there was nothing wrong with our tank so another delivery truck came out a week later only to tell us our tank wouldn't take gas. I have been trying to get ahold of someone for two weeks straight and they all give you the run around. We are now below 5% and I have a 1 year old daughter who I will not be able to make dinner for nor will she be able to take warm baths if we run out of gas. We are about to take this to the news stations and the authorities because we can not eat or bathe because amerigas has the absolute worst customer service in the world! Been using them for the past 1.5 years since buying my property. It was a nightmare to set the account up to begin with, but once set up, it's been pretty user friendly to order propane. All that changed on Jan. 1st 2024 when I got a bill for $149.90. What's that for? Well, it's for a tank rental for the year. Problem is, we own our own tank. I call to straighten it out and the rudest agent I've ever dealt with is saying no, you have to prove the tank is yours with a bill of sale. I talked to the previous owners and they bought this tank many years ago, but I don't have a bill of sale. Another issue is, there is no local place to go handle this issue face to face. I went to the Placerville CA location to deal with this issue, and they don't allow customers. So I'm contacting the BBB and I'm completely done with Amerigas. read more

Looks like 1 star = "not good." Well, they were great for the first four years. Then suddenly the office we dealt with basically closed and things have gone WAY downhill from there, so down to a "no good at all!" rating. Drivers are great, and none of the problems are their fault. We've been told they are running on half the drivers they're supposed to have this time of year. I can certainly understand that if they treat their drivers the way they treat their customers. Have received texts saying to expect a delivery in a few days. Nope. More like a few weeks, and we had to switch tanks to the one we reserve for our generator, otherwise we would have run out. Last delivery was hovering low. They finally show up and tell us we can only have 100 gallons as THEY'RE running low. WHAT?!?! Have they not paid their bills?? Just try to get a hold of anyone who can help. Can't be done. One last attempt, and if the Customer Retention dude has not returned a call by the end of the day I'm going all "Karen" on them with the BBB and CA Consumer Affairs. I have been an Amerigas customer for 25 years. Your Port Charlotte office was always very responsive to our needs but they are no longer here. You opted to go offshore with your customer service and it's now deplorable. It's impossible to get to a U.S. based person to explain our situation. When calling, if I opt for Sales, Delivery, Billing or any other option on your answering service, I'm forwarded to your offshore folks for an experience I wouldn't wish on anybody. We have been out of gas since Hurricane Ian, 9-28-22. Our 250 gallon tank is under ground with no apparent damage. We lost all of our gas due to an above ground line being ruptured during the hurricane but didn't discover until October 21st. This was repaired by a licensed plumbing contractor on that same day. They are still waiting for your delivery so they could confirm everything is in working order. We ordered a gas delivery on October 24th. Amerigas accepted my payment, in advance of delivery, for $863.50. Delivery was supposedly scheduled "within 7 days". You still have my money but we still don't have gas. Since then, I have placed calls to Amerigas almost daily for status on delivery and I cannot get past being sent to an offshore desk with personnel who, for the most part are useless as well as total liars. After apologizing for my inconvenience, and taking much time to "look into my account", they tell me they have "restored my account" and delivery will be made "shortly". Check your phone records to confirm my experience. I've had 3 texts from Amerigas, 2 confirming delivery and 1 denying delivery. I would not recommend Amerigas to anyone anymore and I will be switching to another gas company once I get my gas. Since they have gone offshore they are terrible to work with now. read more

Been on the line for nearly an hour to report an emergency gas leak. Simply put, they fill up the gas fine but if you ever need anything more you're in trouble cause nobody here cares. This service is so incredibly bad and this level of neglect has to be illegal. I've been trying to report a gas leak for days. Their "emergency" line rings for hours without being answered. I've sent emails to customer support and tried to get them through their social media pages. No one will answer me! Finally, today, my tank ran dry (which really makes me think there's a leak, because the tank draining this fast isn't normal), and I still can't get anyone to help me. It's below freezing at night and there's snowfall on the ground -- my main source of heat is gone. I don't know what I'm going to do! AmeriGas Propane took over my account I used to have with H&H gas. The deliveries with AmeriGas were inconsistent and I canceled service with them in Jan 2022. The tanks at my property were mine and I owned them 100%. Over a year later, Despite being advised in writing that my two 120-gallon tanks were customer owned, Amerigas Propane illegally trespassed, without notice, permission, or authorization onto my property and removed the two tanks which belonged to me, which also contained propane which I had purchased.
