We've had issues with our propane tanks so we had new tanks installed from Kamps, Bruce was super helpful and knowledgeable about the process and even though there was some miss communication with the office staff and the services setup, Bruce managed to get everything done. I don't use this place for my propane but had them come out for some repairs to my tank as I was looking for a good price. They sent a grouchy old fart. He would say he was going to do one thing and then do the opposite. We practically ended up in a shouting match before I just finally told him to hit the road. I ended up with my current company and they only did half of what he said needed to be done. One of their own drivers shorty before this told me their customer service was the worst. I went for a walk shortly after he left and he was sitting in his truck talking on the phone. A couple weeks after that I seen him at my local convenience store sitting in his truck talking on the phone. went to pay my bill 10:30am like i have been doing for almost 30 years and the office was locked up i came the next day and it was still lock up closed, i knocked on the window doors and a driver poked his head out the door and said where closed. i said i need to pay my bill today and he said send it in by mail i said i need it pay now and i have cash he said there is nobody in the office so you need to send it in, i said please take my money and give me a receipt he did. i told him please call me tomorrow and let me know you put it through, never called they said they did but i never received a call. my phone dont lie.. i think its time to change propane company . the service has gone down hill in my eyes. read more

Horrible services! Been in our house for less than 30 days and they've managed to charge us $300 to do inspections and are now stating that they need to do a 3rd inspection for another $130 before charging $500 to fill our 250gallon tank. Had no issues with Kamp's the 7+ years we had service from them. When we were getting ready to sell our home we called and asked what/how the refund works for propane still in the tanks when we close our account. Were told the tank we owned, we would not get any refund, but the one we leased we would get a refund on propane left in the tank. Four months later we were told we "gifted" the propane to the new owner. This was never mentioned, and we certainly would not gift the propane to the new owner - we expected a refund. They said too bad. Don't deal with this company - they will rip you off. Run. read more

They messed up my bill saying I didn't pay for June ( here it is November and they just now are letting me know about it) and I said I did, and I have bank statements to prove it, I go to the office to show the lady and she said she doesn't see on her computer and I said " bullshit it's proof that I paid it and here it is on my bank statement " when I started to get nasty about it she took the June bill off the account and I said thank you but I could tell they were not happy about doing it. Newly built construction home: Unfortunately, the building contractor who built my home in 2017 was only permitted by El Dorado County installing a propane central heat with an electric A/C system and a hot water on demand, tankless, propane, hot water heater; however, the building contractor was well aware of the fact, I would be installing a complete solar system for my entire house's energy consumption after closing escrow. After closing escrow, a Kamps' woman employee was an egregious, offensive linebacker who barged through my front door demanding I sign her contract: The woman demonstrated her rude behavior by bolting directly to my kitchen inquiring where is my gas stove, why did I buy an electric stove, and why did I buy an electric dryer despite, I DIDN'T INVITE her into my home!!!! "Look, Woman: I want to inform you my house is completely operating using solar energy, i.e., I'm using electricity~DUH! I refuse signing your contract-get out of my house-NOW!" Kamps Woman being very snotty retorts: "Well, I OWN the propane tank that's buried in your front yard! I gonna dig it out!" That conversation was the last week in July 2017 . . . It's June 6, 2018 and that woman hasn't dug up removing her propane tank from my property! I guess it's too expensive ($$$$$) hiring a dude licensed and certified operating a digger, hiring a heating/plumbing contractor capping the propane central heating system/hot water on demand heater, obtaining a EDC permit removing the propane tank from my property, and having to re-landscape my front yard! FYI: I upgraded the electrical wiring to 20-AMPS for the entire house while the house was in stick-build mode. All my appliances, major and small appliances are all energy efficient using only electricity; there's no dinosaur fuel being used in my house! My daughter lives in Camino, Ca. From what has happened to her this company is the worst. Kamps let her propane run out twice. 1st time charged inspection fees so she pays their required inspection fees to fuel. Gets on the auto fuel program then goes out of state on a trip. My wife was staying to watch her pets. House gets cold, finds out Kamps Propane again let run out of propane. Now they want another inspection fee for a restart and said it would be 2 weeks before they can get to her. My daughter on the phone argues this and they tell her let them know when they can come get their tank. Pure Poop for service. House got down to 42 degrees. My senior wife was subjected to unnecessary stress and cold. Needless to say my daughter is going to another propane company. This propane company, it's people in Placerville are the worst. read more

we are new to the area and needed to set up with kamps through our apartment complex. we set up PG&E, Xfinity, our utilities, our rent payments, our renters insurance, and more and kamps has consistently been a huge problem. we haven't had hot water in days. they've ignored emails, calls, and so much more. they were SO QUICK to take our $75 deposit though. rude on the phone as well. my apartment manager said she heard that people have major issues with the all the time. i called 3 times today and we finally got to someone to beg for our hot water. they said they'd be out in a few days. so frustrating. read more

Horrible customer service. Heater stopped working. Ran out of propane. Apparently we're 30 days past due. No one called. Been a paying customer for 18 years! When I called, Devin was super condescending and made me feel like I'm a horrible person! She said they are short staffed and can't call people but they can monitor my tank. Unbelievable!!! We recently bought house in Shingle Springs. First day we had the keys there was a notice on the door saying if we dont make contact within 24 hours they would lock the propane. Even PG&E gives a grace period. I attempted to call and email immediately. No response. I spent most of the next day at the house and just as I was driving out I saw the Kamps truck coming down the road. I stopped and talked with the driver, I showed him my calls and emails and he agreed not to shut off the propane. I continued to try to call and email to get the account setup and to discuss moving the tank. The phone would ring one ring and go to a full mailbox. I eventually tried calling the sacramento location to let them know something is wrong at this location, they blew me off and said they couldnt help. I eventually gave up and found another company that responds to customer requests and inquiries. I am now trying to get them to come out and remove the tank, lets see how long this is gonna take. read more

I'd say they deserve a zero rating but I can't do that option. We are at 27% and we're told after the last power outage that Kamps could not come refill our propane tank until we are at or below 30%. We are there and facing another 3 day outage beginning tomorrow at 3pm. We use 5% day when our generator runs... this will put us below 10% and compromises our generator. Kamps refuses to come out and fill our tank or at the very least fill it 50%. Their ignorance, and poor customer service, to those who have had their service for over 10 years is appalling. Kamps came to my home and filled my tank accidentally and left me a bill. I spoke to the women in the office to let them know that I didn't order the propane, that I was not on automatic-fill, and they both checked my account and agreed my account is on a will-call basis and I DID NOT call for a fill. They told me twice that it was their error and not to worry about it. Now, TWO MONTHS LATER they send me a bill for $269 and threatening to interrupt my service if the bill is not paid and also will come and pull out the gas. To add insult to injury, Hank, the manager refused to accept responsibility for their error and spoke so disrespectfully to me saying I needed to pay the bill! If anyone is looking for a decent propane company, beware, this is not a good company, and the manager, Hank, is super sarcastic and disrespectful and unwilling to take responsibility for their errors!! read more

We inherited Kamps propane service when we bought our retirement home in Shingle Springs almost 5 years ago. Service has always been outstanding, with friendly delivery drivers, office staff, etc., but we had an incident occur last Friday late afternoon that really showed us what a great company this is. At 5:00 PM on a Friday, you might expect to not be able to reach anyone, let alone have the boss respond immediately. Due to a malfunctioning transmitter, Kamps was unaware that our main heating and cooking tank was low, and it went completely empty. Temperatures that night were forecast to be in the 30s, and my wife was in the middle of cooking when the oven quit running. I called the office, got a very friendly receptionist, and within minutes I got a call from Roger, the manager of the Placerville office. He arrived at our place within an hour, filled up the tank, replaced the faulty transmitter, pressure tested everything, then went about relighting all the pilots. We were fully back in business that evening thanks to the excellent customer service Roger and his team provided. Kamps Propane is the best! read more

I am writing to express my profound frustration and disappointment (notwithstanding anger) pertaining to the unacceptable service I have experienced this past month with this company. Until now, I have always had satisfactory service from KAMPS, and it is with regret that I am giving serious consideration to terminating our association, for reasons I will outline herein. As background, I have been a KAMPS customer for 14 consecutive years - since August of 2004, when our residence was in Cameron Park. In December of 2017, our family moved to Camino, and we continued service at our new address. The devastating fires that have decimated portions of California have resulted in PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), affecting many utility customers within PG&E's service geography. As such, the use of stand-by whole house propane generators has increased exponentially (mine included). Because of this increased use and demand for propane delivery service, I wanted to be proactive and allow for sufficient time when ordering my needed propane delivery. Despite my efforts to preclude any delays in delivery, I have been denied by KAMPS representatives on three separate dates this month. As a result, I am now facing a PSPS this coming weekend (October 26), that will last for an unknown duration, with limited propane (30%) on hand to run necessary utilities and appliances on generator power. This, despite the fact I have called for delivery on October 11, October 21, and October 24. On October 11, following the October 9 PSPS, I requested to be placed on the earliest available delivery schedule, in order to ensure I had adequate propane supply for the next possible PSPS. The representative explained to me that it was KAMPS policy not to perform deliveries of propane unless the customer's supply was at 30% of tank capacity or less. At the time, the contents of my tank's capacity was near 40%. I explained that my generator's propane consumption was approximately 5% per day, and posed a PSPS scenario to her that would exhaust my propane supply. She responded by stating, in essence, that the company policy is the company policy. I pressed further, and posed a scenario that involved life-saving equipment malfunctions due to lack of propane for my generator. She responded with "...well, that would be a situation where you would need to call 911." I find her nonchalant response outrageous. On Monday, October 21, PG&E announced a possible PSPS for the upcoming Wednesday and Thursday, the 23rd and 24th. Again, I contacted KAMPS. Although the representative on this call was much more assuring that KAMPS would not allow my supply of propane be exhausted, she was unable to guarantee a delivery. My tank's capacity at this time was approximately 35%. The representative did indicate she would place me on the schedule for a delivery "soon." On Thursday, during the PSPS of the 23rd and 24th, I monitored my propane tank's capacity; it was at 31%. PG&E had already provided notice to my area that another PSPS was probable for the weekend of the 26th, for an unknown duration. Considering the the weekend was approaching, and deliveries were sure to be limited, I called KAMPS yet again, explained my concerns, and propane supply situation, and I was treated the the now-redundant explanation of KAMP's delivery policy and lack of ability to provide me delivery. Because I am aware of the tank capacity that is required to ensure adequate operation of certain appliances and devices, e.g. stand-by generator, I asked if there was any way I could obtain a delivery before the weekend. The representative denied me and then emailed me, requesting I sign a release of liability created for customers with generators. I can only presume this was done to indemnify KAMPS, should a malfunction or damage occur to my generator during a PSPS when I had insufficient propane supply - because KAMPS would not supply me. I am angry and beyond frustrated, because despite my multiple good faith efforts to alleviate this situation in the first place, I am left in this precarious position. As a paying customer, I am not asking for favors, I am ordering service. If KAMPS is unable to provide that service, there are several local propane businesses that that will, at competitive prices. And, regardless of the expense of a new propane tank, the subsequent removal of the KAMPS tank, any termination fees, and installation of the new tank and equipment, I am seriously and viably considering doing just that. After 14 years as a KAMPS customer, I expect and deserve better that what I have experienced this month. read more

Driver that came out and set temporary tank ( I think his name was Sam) was awesome. He pressure tested and fixed a leaking valve inside the house in no time. When they set the regular tank they dropped it right into place super fast. Jeri was very helpful with permit information since I moved location of the original tank and had to have a new trench for the gas line. read more

Kamps propane is a terrible company I was moving up here and because my apt wasn't ready , they charged me $89 because even though they are in the same small town, they want your money. My landlord did not have my apt ready until the next week, and I couldn't be there, they charged me $89 plus the $150 deposit I had already paid. They do not let the customer know , so that they can squeeze more money out of you. I would highly suggest suburban. They are a great company and they will work with you. read more

I have gone in twice to get tanks filled. Both times, nobody was available to fill them. However, today was exceptionally bad service. The woman at the front told me she would "see if anyone could help me," then continued to shuffle papers, file them, and wander about the office. A second employee came in and she asked her if anyone could fill tanks. The second employee shrugged and never answered. A few minutes later, with all the filling done, the first woman went into the back. I assumed she was looking for someone. After a few more minutes (minutes, not moments), I finally just left. read more

I had a very good experience with Kamps propane. I have been with them for over ten years. During the last shut off (# 5 shut off for me) my primary tank was at 25%. My propane tank for the generator was at 50% and dropping fast. I called and requested a fill within a few days. They said they could not guarantee it but would try. When I got home the following day they had come and filled both tanks. They have never let me down. These shut offs have been devastating for many people and businesses. Many people are scrambling and cannot keep up. I know that I cannot. So I really appreciate Kamps for getting to me so quickly. read more

A couple of weeks ago we discovered a propane leak in our new water heater. Though we had turned off the propane, enough had leaked that we ran out over that weekend. We called on Sunday and felt we were fine until Monday. As promised, Monday morning Kamps was able to load 25 gallons to cover us for heat & cooking and replaced a broken tank meter. This held us until first thing Tuesday morning when they filled the tank, as promised. Helpful, professional, patient and dependable. We've been happy with Kamps for 20 years. read more

Just like several others have said, don't waste your time with Kamps. Garbage company that I have had the displeasure of dealing with for several years. Way to pricey compared to competitors and they don't care about customer service at all. They just shut off my propane over an 11 dollar bill. I was out of town and my room mate told me he hadn't got the propane bill. It was already fairly late in the month and due to lack of time with my job I sent them the same rough amount I had been paying recently which was $20. turns out the bill was $31. Instead of doing what every other company does, tack on the extra amount due to next months bill (I would even have accepted a late fee), they sent a guy out in the middle of the day and shut off my propane. This all happened on February 14th. Well when I get home to take a nice shower and clean up before a romantic evening with my SO, I find ice cold water. When I called them the next day, they charged me a $75 re hook up fee to turn everything back on. Horrible business practices and I will be doing everything in my power to get my complex and the ten units in it off the Kamps account. Go to another competitor like JS West who is cheaper, and actually cares about their customers. read more

My bill was past due by 30 days. On the day of the worst storm within three years they came out and turned off the propane. My electricity had gone out from the storm and they intentionally turned off the propane! Disgraceful! I explained to them that I had been a customer for over 10 years and they did not care. I just moved out of my house. My propane tank is 70% full. They not only charged me a 25% restocking fee but they didn't restock it, they turned around and sold it to the new owners. My wife and I have had Kamps Propane for 10 plus years. We purchased a new propane tank, and the tank was filled with propane for our automatic home generator in June this year. With all the PG&E power outages we needed to have our new tank filled. We called Kamps and they needed us to go to their office to sign up the new tank for automatic fill. When we went to the Placerville office the dispatcher spoke to us. We said we were long time customers, and had just added a new tank for our automatic 22kw generator. We explained to him that our new tank was below 29 percent, and needed a fill up. He said that he would contact his manager after reviewing our file. The dispatcher returned to say that the manager absolutely refused to waive the $80.00 safety check fee on the new tank. Also, he said that they wouldn't come out to fill the new tank for 2 weeks. We asked if this was the fastest time that we could get a fill up, and he said yes. He recommended changing to a new propane provider. He recommended Hunt propane in Placerville. We drove to Hunt propane and signed up for new service. Note: Kamps propane cost per gallon of propane is $2.80, but all the other companies in Placerville were between $2.07 to $2.36. We will never use Kamps propane again. Hunt propane is going to charge us a $1.75 per gallon for the first fill up, and no charge for the safety inspection on the new tank. read more

There are very few businesses that live by customer service in today's economy and business world. As a business owner myself I have to take time and stop to give kudos when and where they are due. Kamps Propane is a company that deserves just that! I was with Amerigas for over 10 years and to say the least the "Customer Service " has a lot to learn from the independent companies out there in the world. I dropped my service with them when even there management staff were RUDE AND OUTRIGHT DISRESPECTFUL, on Christmas Eve last year though I admit it was an over sight on my own personal behalf we ran out of gas in the middle of cooking, they said yes they could and would deliver the load but a $300.00 service charge would be added, I can understand a slight charge but $300.00 is unbelievable and on Christmas Eve to say the least is heartless after speaking with dispatch I asked to speak with a manager and "Darren " told to close my eyes and tell him what I see, nothing I said then he says "that's what you get". Absolutely unbelievable I said after 10 + years of being a good customer. Every time I call "Candice " her friendly happy voice is always a pleasure to work with. She is a true asset to your company they installed a monitoring device that let's them know when you get low and automatically schedule your delivery so today when I called in I was surprised to hearing I was already on the delivery schedule for next week. Switching to Kamps was one of the best decision I have ever made. Good People doing a Great Job. Corporate big guys can learn a lesson from there customer service efforts. read more

We are new to Kamps and recently had a hardship in our family. We got behind on our bill by a month. And had our service shut off. We never received anything saying that service was going to be stopped, the only thing we did receive was our regular bill said absolutely nothing about being shut off. On 11/11/2015 (Veterans Day) a rep came to the door and told us that we either needed to pay in full of we would be shut off. My Husband (who happens to be a vet) answered the door and told them we did not have the money at the time so we were immediately disconnected. Today 11/13/15 we managed to pay the bill in full and were informed that they would not be able to reconnect us until Monday meaning we will be without service the whole weekend. My three year old has serious dietary restrictions and has to have fresh home cooked food my stove is propane so this has presented a major health concern as the only thing I have to cook with now is a microwave which I explained to two different reps over the phone, but they wouldn't budge not to mention that it's November and freezing! I am not upset about the service being shut off, I understand that that is what happens when you don't pay your bills. What I don't get though is why when we were only a month behind they did not hesitate to shut off our propane, but once they have been paid (including the $75 fee) that it takes three days to turn it back on especially after explaining the severity of the situation. read more

I have been a Kamps Placerville customer for over 15 years. I have received great service from the office, as well as the drivers in the field. Recently, I decided to install a propane generator at my residence. I did this as a owner builder and found the county required different forms from each company. I went to Kamps office and was pleased with not only the knowledge but the willingness to help me get all the information. We set up dates which did need to be changed to get all companies on the same days. After the country did there first inspection on the buried gas line, Kamps came right back out and connected the tank to the generator. This completed project was done in 2 days. Just a side note, the guys did the work in the rain. There was no complaining. read more

Crystal in the office assisting me with getting a driver on immediately and feeling our tanks. When my husband commented on wanting one of their hats, a supervisor personally drove out the next day and dropped one off. I had almost the same experience as the previous yelpers. When I told the customer service person we were going through a rough time financially she rudely responded with "that is not our problem, maybe you should have worked harder." I have worked in customer service before and would never tell a customer that. I understand it is not their problem but to belittle customers is completely uncalled for! Not only did they turn off our propane and give us a $75 reconnection fee but threw on a $25 collection fee. This company needs to hire better employees who can at least be professional. read more
