Flies EVERYWHERE. on the tables, attacking your coffee and their entire baked goods counter. The servers behind the counter are the rudest people I've met in an incredibly long time. It was like I was trying to order a gang member for my coffee. The wrap I ordered was hot on the outside and COLD inside - absolutely disgusting and pathetic. They couldn't even get the toaster oven timing right. Plenty of seating inside if you are ready to be attacked by flies. I can't imagine how dirty an establishment needs to be to attract this many insects. It's only 4 degrees outside so I can't even blame the summer heat. read more

Stopped by for an iced latte with oat milk. I enjoyed the espresso taste, not too acidic, not too strong. They have food and baked goods on the menu too. The service was quick and kind. Great ambiance with relaxing music. On a Thursday morning nearly all the seats had patrons, so it's clearly a neighbourhood favourite. The entrance has a ramp for accessibility which is great to see, but to get to the register and order you have to climb up a small flight of stairs. There's a patio outside that also was almost completely full, and a downstairs that was also pretty packed. Overall great place. I'd definitely come back. read more

More of a 3.5 Can't say much about their snacks or food but the espresso drinks here are really good and the place is cute and in a nice area. The staff are not that friendly and there weren't many covid precautions (ran out of hand sanitizer, cream/sugar/lid counter was still open for anyone to touch and use, no physical distancing signs). I was a big fan of the old cafe that occupied the same spot and looked forward to the visits there. This place while not as good as the old spot still gets the job done. Teas are by Sloane (pricey but decent for non blended versions). As for the my poison of choice the cappuccino here goes Latte art: Average Crema' OK Coffee bean reminds me of the old version which is fine. The setup is virtually the same so can't complain there. We went in for a late breakfast week ago. We are new to the neighborhood so this was our first visit. There were a few people behind the counter for taking orders and preparing them. We ordered 3 coffees, toast with jam and avocado toast. The coffees were reasonable. The food was brought to the table after 18 minutes. Both sets of toast were completely burnt. The avocado was listed as inclusive of sea salt, pepper and lemon. What was delivered was smashed avocado with "nothing" on it. Wait for another 18 minutes? No way. Ate what we could. Added some salt to the avocado (and it was a big deal to get sea salt instead of regular salt from the server). They have a sign that mentions an email address for feedback. Probably a scam - you can write to it but there is no response. There are many better coffee shops in the neighborhood, this one does not make the cut. read more

I've been looking for a spacious, well lit, and friendly cafe in my neighbourhood for a while before stumbling upon this place. The wifi is fantastic, the seating is plentiful, and the coffee is pretty great too. My favourite things to eat on the menu are the scones and the brownies. They're absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly (really not sure what some of the other people here are on about) and I've never once had a negative experience here. Bathrooms are clean, and the patio is amazing. This is my new go-to spot to work. read more

At first, I didn't want to come here, after they forced out the previous business, 7 Grams Espresso bar. 7 Grams was a great spot, run by coffee-loving awesome people, and when I heard that they were being forced out so the owner could occupy and put in another coffee shop in it's place, that rubbed me the wrong way. Not cool to kill small local business like that. After about a month, I went in on my way to work for coffee, thinking, meh, I'll give these guys a try. They jacked up the coffee prices (instead of 2.25 tax included, now you're looking at 2.40, plus tax for a medium coffee) and the coffee beans for filter aren't as good as before - Pilot coffee (what they have) is great, but the beans 7 Grams had before were faaaar superior. The staff are a bit up-tight about pours - won't fill your cup to the top unless you ask. I used to go to 7 grams with my to-go mug, pay for a medium, and they'd fill it up. These guys leave it 1/3 empty. Weird, but whatever. One day I noticed a vegan muffin on offer. Nice. I asked the ingredients - was told, after the woman working the counter went and whispered with the owner about it for a little while, that while other things on offer are made in house, the vegan muffins are not made there and they didn't know the ingredients. No offer to ask and let me know for next time, and they wouldn't tell me where they were made when I asked. I found that very weird. The owner literally said 'there's peanut butter, banana, and oatmeal' (it was a peanut butter, banana, oatmeal muffin) and then said "I don't know what else is in it - muffin things". I was treated like some sort of spy for inquiring about something that doesn't seem like an outrageous question to ask a food service provider. As it stands, this place doesn't hold a candle to what 7 Grams used to be like....which is too bad. 7 Grams was a great coffee spot, great for meetings, studying, reading, chilling with a great cup of coffee. Unfortunately, this place is taking itself a bit too seriously, and isn't really any of those things. read more

I wanted to come here because I used to come to 7 grams a bit. 7 grams was the cafe that was previously here (same location). From what I can tell, very little inside actually changed except maybe the ownership and staff. Anyway, I was hoping that this could be the cafe in this neighborhood that I could frequent more in the future instead of having to venture elswhere. We got a cortado and a latte, both with soy milk. Despite it being fairly early in the day they were out of soy milk, so I asked that they swap it for almond milk instead. I got a stuffed brioche as well. Interestingly the stuff brioche just had a little bit of topping at the top of it...there was very little topping and no stuffing for sure. When our beverages arrived, it seemed different. I initially thought that maybe the almond milk caused the drinks to taste different. After sipping my latte a little more, I could taste the almond milk in the latte, but the espresso was tasted sour. The flavours were two distinct ones and ended up being weird drinks. I'm thinking maybe we just didnt' appreciate the beans that they were using there (?) or maybe it was an off day? So maybe I'll go back to try again another time. read more

They have big work tables, power outlets and wifi. This cafe is a reincarnation of former "7 Grams", without any major improvements or changes. I'm a frequent visitor of all cafes in the neighborhood, new and old, and an avid coffee drinker. I noticed a decline in overall quality of this cafe which is unfortunate, considering the increased potential of this location. Most of the products are overpriced. The coffee quality is reasonable, with enough choices to satisfy any coffee aficionado. In terms of eating, it looks like the cafe caters mostly to the vegan and gluten-free crowd. What would be wrong with some luxurious Italian-style sandwiches abundant in cheese, salami, prosciutto and colorful veggies? Just an example. The current display is soooo colorless and un-inspiring for anyone's appetite. Add to this the recent decision of not serving brewed coffee after 4pm (this is a novelty for a cafe). The customer service went down to very low key and impersonal, the staff moving around like trying their best to be transparent. No interest in building a sense of community. In the previous ownership, two baristas and the owner knew me by name and my favorite orders, even not being a frequent visitor. The cleanliness of the place is becoming critical. The sides of the indoor stairs look like they have never been washed since the new ownership, and sitting down at a table and looking at them is really getting disgusting (they used to be shiny and spotless, now covered in grime). On the patio, the ground many times looks like is cleaned just by rain and wind. The dishes and cutlery of previous customers are not removed for a long time, piling up on the tables. Besides the negatives, it's still a nice spot to stop by between point A and B and enjoy a good coffee with your book or laptop (strong WiFi). If you are a vegan, you can have a bite too. Nice comfy design, with enough places to sit for natural light or outdoor view, or a small group work. Nice little patio under the shade of an oak tree, but a bit too noisy and dusty at rush hour. Come here fairly often - consistently good coffee, friendly (but not in-your-face-hows-your-mum-doing-friendly) staff, and nice ambiance. Great working space in a multi-level unit to accommodate larger groups. This place has gotten new ownership within the last few years and has become a must-go-to spot in Yorkville. It has a quaint lower floor for studying and two other floors better for coffee with friends or business meetings. This place is extremely versatile and the coffee is great. There are lots of food options as well, ranging from freshly baked goods to warm homemade soup. This old yorkville house transformed into a coffee shop makes you feel welcome and the staff are friendly. I would recommend coming here! read more

My experience was an undercooked croissant and a less than impressive, poorly made, watery Americano. Same as many other reviewers I was at first hesitant to go to this place after they had forced 7 Grams out of business. Finally today I stopped by and I have to say others are right. The display is full of unreadable signs as if you're in a touristy place and they are pushing things out to you. But that aside they just screwed up my order. I asked for a low fat no foam latte in a mug and I got a regular milk latte with foam in a to go cup that I wanted to avoid. The lady offered to pure my coffee in a mug but my issue was trying to avoid creating extra waste. The barista also wastes a lot of milk. read more

In life, there are two sides to a story. Rose, the owner of this cafe, provides a beautiful, warm, and inviting large space in the heart of Yorkville. I cannot imagine the cost of the rent for this space. It is virtually impossible to evict the tenant in this area as I know since I am in the real estate area and the lease are pretty much binding legal documents protecting the tenant and landlord. I am greatful to Rose For preserving through the negativity. I know how tough it can be running a small business every day. I am a regular customer and the service is great.
