It's summertime so I tried Coconut Island. It's Cold brew coffee with some coconut cream on top and a sprinkle of coconut flakes. I enjoyed it, not too sweet and it tasted coconutnutty! Here is a hint always ask for light ice they still give you plenty of ice, even if the cold brew comes out cold. Otherwise you get a cup full of ice. De Mello coffee is expensivei. However, in the scheme of things it is a good value because the coffee beans they use have a good solid caffeine kick and it tastes good! (My overall favorite place is still across the street a couple blocks North at Himalayan coffee. It's folksy, a lot less expensive and I always feel happy there, especially after I get a cute latte art on my drink.). The Coconut island cost $8.50 plus tax or $9.60! De Mello Coffee is creative marketing their coffee beans. They have crazy names by cotton candy, lolipop, birthday cake, dead, man, walking, etc. however, a small bag of beans is super super expensive. But their marketing makes you wanna try it and then afterwards you're like oh I guess I taste something but it's still not worth the cost. I'm sorry if this review leaves you puzzled to go or not. De Mello Coffee on Eglinton is one of my favourite coffee shop in the Yonge and Eglinton neighborhood. The cafe itself boasts a modern and inviting atmosphere, with a minimalist design that puts the focus on the coffee experience. The service at De Mello is friendly and knowledgeable, with baristas often able to provide helpful recommendations. While primarily a coffee shop, they also offer a selection of pastries and light bites to accompany your beverage. However, as with any popular spot, De Mello can get quite busy, particularly during peak hours. This can sometimes make finding a seat challenging. I really enjoyed my mocha and got a blend of the dancing goats which was grinded for me. Overall I highly recommend this spot and say to go on a non peak hour time of the day. read more

Delicious spot for coffee. I've heard about this place from friends - decided to give it a try myself. I had a chai tea latte with lactose free milk - $6.99 - 7/10 perfect for this fall weather. Would like to try their Nomnom (Vietnamese iced coffee) and the Blueberry latte off their signatures menu. Servers were friendly and swift. Not too much seating inside. An early Thursday morning in midtown Toronto calls for a coffee run before work. My boyfriend recommended this spot and I was very down to try it. We got the following and decided to have a seat at the empty tables since it was such a quiet morning: - Blueberry latte (cold): This seems to be a very popular drink after reading some reviews. It was very nice - a faint hint of blueberry flavour layered on coffee. 8/10 - Latte (hot): Very standard. For some reason I thought the cup was larger was what I asked but was pretty sure I was going crazy. Four shots of espresso so beware if you are sensitive to caffeine. 7/10 Interior was cute, the tables are organized in a square. There's also shelves of different coffee beans and interesting merch - definitely great to look at while you wait for your coffee. Service was really fast too. My one critique is that the coffee taste was not very strong to my preference; it was not bitter at all. Nonetheless, a great place to stop by if you are in the area!! read more

Stopped by the new location of De Mello Coffee after a session at Rumble. At first glance, I loved the bright and modern interiors lined with their specialty coffee beans for purchase and some unique baked goods. The staff were also super friendly and inviting from the moment I got in. I ordered the classic Americano and the top-selling Blueberry Latte. Americano (8/10) - it was very aromatic and had the perfect balance of flavour and strength. If you're looking for a quick pick me up, this will do the job amazingly. Blueberry Latte (10/10) - There is a reason why this is the top selling drink, it was honestly such a well crafted drink. A creamy latte with a subtle hint of blueberry flavour that comes from how their coffee beans. It was tasty, creamy and not too sweet. For my bubble tea lovers, it was a lighter version of the Royal #9 from The Alley. Definitely recommend try. Vietnamese Coffee (8/10) - The owner ended up giving us a sample to try and it was a very nice take on Vietnamese coffee. Great taste and it sides a condense milk powder versus the traditional milk. Would recommend as an alternative if you're looking for a strong caffeine hit. Looking at the prices, it seemed on par with some of the other cafes in the area. This place luckily is near me for a quick drop in for some amazing coffee. The coffee is flavourful and rich and some of the best in Toronto. However it did lose a star due to how small this place is - by no means could you do work here, meet up with a friend or any of the above to plan to sit. I have been here two times so far. A lot of my coworkers grab coffee here too. Its a nice local coffee shop with 2 areas for seating. Nice decor with the front of cafe ceiling having umbrellas hanging upside down. I tried the mocha iced latte and the mocha latte. I love sweet coffee so I really like the mocha ice latte but it's pretty pricey. More expensive than a Starbucks frappuccino. However, you will actually have real pieces of chocolate in it. Yum! de Mello Palheta is my favourite midtown coffee shop that I've been going to for a while now. The space of the cafe is hip, trendy, and unique - from the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling to the graffiti type decor in the back. The baristas and staff are always friendly even when it gets very busy. They also roast their own beans so you can buy them right at the store if need be. Their espresso based drinks (Americanos, cappuccinos, etc.) are great as well as their brewed coffee. Their croissants and scones are delicious as well. I recently tried out their baked sweet goods, specifically the chocolate matcha brownie and was pleasantly surprised by how rich and filling it was! I've seen this cafe many times while walking up and down Yonge but never checked it out until today sparked by a desire to find a latte as good as Maha's Egyptian Brunch. Got the matcha which I was hoping to be strong because I love matcha and wasn't disappointed. I also appreciated the barista taking the time to wipe the cup because he knew I was going to take a photo. The desserts looked so beautiful but I had just finished a huge pineapple drink from Afrofest. I'll be back next time to try the vanilla latte and pumpkin cheesecake or matcha brownie. Another note is the branding and story behind the name of the cafe which is the owners, two Korean brothers, paying homage to one of the first Portuguese coffee purveyors. What a great place! Unassuming but charming. It looks deceptively small but it's long and narrow with additional seating in the back. It has that Kensington vibe with the cool table in the front(table top has a bunch of business cards on it covered by a glass table top). There is a small pastry and food section - I had the zucchini/red pepper quiche which I believe was around $8-9 I believe. It was ok...not worth the price in my opinion - maybe for a slice around $6, but I understand they are an independent coffee house and need to bring in the...err....beans :). I prefer my quiche cooked a little more and this one, the egg was more runny..but that's my personal preference. They serve it on a cutting board with a side of salad with some light balsamic dressing. A great presentation. I also had the peach blossom tea which was light and refreshing and a generous portion. It was like sipping your problems away. The service is great and the place is really clean. They take pride in their place. There is free wifi and I noticed it closes at 8pm which is a bit later than some of the other coffee places in the area. I will definitely be back to get one of their lattes (they make lovely art on them!) and a sinfully delectable pastry. read more

I came in for a bag of beans and an espresso. I thought this place was very cool. A little odd, like I asked someone worked there about some of their beans which didn't have notes on them, she said she would ask what they were like. She went off and came back and was like "These are coffee beans". A barista came but also wasn't very good at saying anything about the beans. He offered to make the espresso I bought out of those beans which was super cool. They made a really really good espresso, the extracted all of the flavours, the crema was good. You could tell they know how to make espresso really well. Just the bean buying experience was ... odd. read more

I love coffee and tea (or maybe I just love caffeine in general). My 'Bucks Buddy and I decided to explore other coffee shops and decided on de Mello. I used to work right around the corner so I would pass by this place often - the signage is graffitti style, but as you walk in, you're pleasantly surprised at the decor here. It's unique with an industrial look. I got my drink (tea) in a beaker, which was a new approach to serving hot drinks. The treats look delicious. My BB ordered a tart and she enjoyed it a lot. Service was really good with staff being very accommodating - I rode my bike to de Mello and forgot my bike lock at home. The staff were very understanding of my dilemma and allowed me to leave my bike at the front. If you're looking for a good independent coffee shop , definitely check out de Mello in Midtown. De Mello Palheta is unique in Toronto... after going to 75+ coffee spots in Toronto, I can safely say why I see this place sits in the top 50 across Toronto. Sure they roast their own beans (which is great) but they have a service that I haven't seen in a long time. Imagine a cafe that is boho hipster with baristas that know your name, your kid's name, your dog's name, how long you ran your last marathon, and your preferred drink... it would be De Mello Palheta. The feel of this place sits better in Kensington than at Yonge and Eg. A chill vibe with a 'come as you are ... of course with many piercings' BUT there are a decent amount of families sitting cute in this small place. The back room has a haphazard wall mural that borders on artistic fun graffiti with it's wild colours. The front barista area has about 10 umbrellas opened up and creating a canopy in the front section... whimisical? Absolutely. The seats here are not really comfortable and though I did see people with laptops, I cannot imagine cozying up here fro a few hours. The lighting here in the back is quite dark too. Though the front shared table does have a window by it, I think the whole space is quite dark. About the service here... its more like a neighbourhood stop instead of a coffee store. Honestly, I saw these barista chat up easily 9 people in the 30 minutes I was here. And it wasn't just a 'hey how are you doing?'. It was talking about how to find great new piercings for the cheap on the net or how their run and use of the newest fad to regen your energy or how the kids are doing with the new sports. I know this is overused term but it really feels like an extended family here. The Flat white that turned into a Latte - I ordered a flat white with almond milk. And the person on the cashier scratches down your order onto a sticky note for the barista. Somehow my Flat White became a Latte in the translation. I actually like coffee flavour and so a good robust hit of it makes me happy. Lattes ... by it's very nature are watered down. It was good. So this wasn't a good judge of how the espresso is. That being said, I do like their Dancing Goat beans so I know it's a decent roast. 3.5/5 I did let the barista know of the mistake but I still got the latte... true that it is double the size of the flat white but I was looking for flavour and not necessarily a bowl of almond milk! Among the roasters I've visited, there are three worth visiting in Toronto: the LSC, Pilot, and then de Mello. The quality of coffee at de Mello is 90% miss and 10% hit. The light roast coffees (basically all of them) are underdeveloped and overly sour. I've tried over ten different roasts of theirs and have found only one I enjoyed to date, which is the Rwandan Fugi. It's worth noting that they have a buying philosophy which probably affects the quality of beans they get. They have this idea of promoting a "balanced and comprehensive" purchasing model by not focusing only on the small handful of high quality producers. Here's the catch: with the amount of specialty coffee that the world consumes, this is balancing act is inevitable and the idea of only high quality producers getting attention just can't happen. One possible reason for the second-tier roasting is that they offer far too many beans - too many to have time to properly calibrate each roast. At the same time, this is one thing I'll give to de Mello: the title for having the most roasts available in Toronto. I'm sure this will be an exciting factor for some. The website is poorly made and the store-website coordination is terrible. Whenever I hit back on the website, the page does not take me to my original coordinates. This makes navigation a pain. In addition, whenever I see something on the website that I want, it's not guaranteed to be in store so I have to call each time before stopping by. Lastly, the stamps on the bag are either smeared and will smear. This feels careless and not thought through. So why four stars? It has some of the right ideas, and its existence is generally healthy for advocating specialty coffee. read more

de Mello Palheta is a new cafe in the Y&E area. This cafe is very small, narrow and has a somewhat grungy/artsy decor. They have newspaper clippings plastered on the wall and hanging umbrella's on the ceiling. They offer coffee, espresso drinks, tea and other speciality drinks. A fresh variety of baked goods are available as well as seasonal desserts. The prices for the drinks & seasonal desserts are a tad bit pricey; the baked goods are reasonably priced and yummy. I tried their soy matcha-green tea latte and it was the worst I ever had- the matcha latte was watery, the soy tasted funny and the matcha flavor was very weak. I paid a little over $5 for it and was really disappointed. I hate to give this place a bad rating because the staff here is very friendly. The claustrophobic atmosphere and pricey bad drinks don't do it for me. read more

4.5 Stars. Cold Brew on tap, enough said. There are certain things I look for in coffee shops and it is if they serve cold brew or do pour over coffee. If a shop does this it usually means they know what they are doing with coffee. These are really hard ways of brewing coffee and hard to do well, so if it is done well it's amazing. Walking into De Mello and seeing not only pour over and cold brew, but Chemex and Siphon brewed put it over the top for me. The food is made in house and with an open concept a patron can see how everything is being made, really good idea. The vibe is great and is great to have a shop like this in a little upscale neighborhood. Put it simply, coffee is good. One more note: it's great to see coffee roasted in house here. I didn't buy any, but I can imagine it being really good. I will be back if around the area. Unfortunately I live South East of this place. Get here. It's way worth it. That's it. read more

If you cannot find anything in front which is really small and most probably full, in the back has low ceiling and was really small.
