When we first arrived, we were put into a queue (& I would suggest getting a reservation). We went through very quickly and were told a short snippet before the tour. Then we were free to explore. This entire tour really immersed you through the brewing process. I learned so much about my favorite beer! At one of the floors, youre able to smell the aromas, and then understand the best way to taste guinness, it was so fun! My favorite floor was the marketing or branding floor- I love the campaigns and backgrounds behind them. This was also great for various photo ops. You end out the tour on the 7th floor, at the bar. This gives you an entire 360 view of Dublin, and one you can only see with a ticket. You also get a free guinness (or other beer from them)! It was a wet Saturday afternoon and we were almost the only people there. This had its benefits as the barman had time to chat with us and give us a taste of beers before we committed to one. We also got our choice of seats and so chose a comfy couch beside the fire. I love craft beers and supporting local businesses so I was excited to meet the men behind the five lamps brewery and sample their fine ales. The brewer, a cork man, who had worked for Guinnesses for 27 years before turning to the craftier ways was fascinating and was truly passionate about what he did. I got a couple of half pints at 2.50 each they were exactly half the price of a full pint. Against the grain and the black sheep do this as well which I appreciate because I like to drink slowly. We left around 6 so didn't get to witness how busy it gets. Judging by the decor it's target market is a laid back student crowd. The blinds were down which seemed a little strange because it was still bright out but then my hungover friend appreciated the dim. Overall I really enjoyed my afternoon here. If I lived as little closer I'd be in every weekend.

Our server was very friendly and attentive, and was constantly checking to see if we were ready for our next round. We were able to order the draughts which limited our choice a bit, but the menu was very extensive! We tried the Aspall Suffolk cyder (usually I don't like ciders, but this one was not too sweet and pretty yummy), the Independent Brewing pale ale, the Blonde Weiss (this one had a weirdly strong taste of banana), the Rustbucket rye ale, the Bohemian pils, and one other that I enjoyed but didn't get the name of. The pizza was a bit small but quite tasty for a frozen one, especially when we added the Sriracha they brought with it. I know it's a pub, but I think it would be great if they added a few more food items to the menu! Chips or something. But either way, I made my way on over to the event. There was a lot of good variety I thought of different brands of beer. The guys at Wicklow Wolf were AWESOME... and their beers weren't too bad either! There was an awesome Booka Brass band which was great for getting the crowd in good form. As one of the other people said, it would have been better if there was a little bit more of a food selection. Especially given that it was also supposed to be a food festival. They had TV's up which I image was good for drawing a rugby crowd on the folowing sunday for the 6 nations match. But, given that there wasn't a whole lot of seating, I'm glad I chose to go on the saturday, and not on the sunday when the match was on. I don't want to stand for THAT long. Although, I could see how they may want it that way to encourage people to keep moving around the area and not just sitting around. Like the other beer festivals that go on in town, you had to purchase beer with tokens. I liked that the pours were a bit smaller so you had a chance to actually taste some of the different beers. All in all was a good event. I though it was comparable to the one they do each year at the RDS. I hope that next year they have a few more food options and that there's a bit more seating. The rest of the staff is fantastic too. I walked into another off license down the street and the two people in the shop just stared at me in silence. It was really creepy! The best part about the Bottle Shop is a tie between the fact that they deliver and that they have a deli counter in the back where you can buy pizza and other food. I booked the tour online and noticed they use congestive pricing to raise the base price when making the final purchase depending on how many have already purchased. My initial price was around 27 Euros and was actually 48 when I booked. I still feel it was worth it. There are several tour options available which includes just the basic tour up to Guiness Academy. My wife and I took the Guiness Stoutie tour which provides another full pint of Guiness on floor 4 with your picture on the head of the full pint as well as a video from your phone of them making the image. You start your tour at the St. James Gate area and serpentine through the ropes leading you into the building. On floor 1 they ask that you look up to notice 7 levels in the shape of a Guiness glass. This complex is mainly a living museum and not a functional brewery. They stopped making beer there in 1988. Their mission is to explain the history of Guiness and the process for making the beer, the aging, the barrel making, the advertising and the current state of Guiness across the world. On floor 2 you may see the original lease built into a glass in the floor. Gift shop when you enter and when you leave. There is no floor 6 that we were allowed to visit. On floor 3 there's a tasting room where they give you a shot glass of guiness. Floor 7 is the Gravity floor with an excellent panoramic view of Dublin. At that floor, with the proper ticket, you get another Guiness or possibly whatever lager they have that day. They say the tour takes approximately 90 minutes but I believe my wife and I were there around 2-21/2 hrs. There is a parking area nearby. My wife and I walked from the Temple Bar area over. It's a nice walk when its not raining.
