1 Meat Plate - Brisket, Cornbread, Mac & Cheese, Creamed Corn
    Bethany W.

What a pleasant surprise this place was. Love how cozy it is, and that you can look at the food as you order! There is a huge variety of sides to get which I appreciated. Definitely will eat here instead of R&R when I want BBQ in the future. I thought the 1 Meat Plate was a good deal. I asked for fattier brisket cuts which was super tender and yummy. The cornbread with the honey butter.....you can't go wrong. And I usually don't order mac & cheese because it always lacks flavor and salt haha. But their mac & cheese it sooooo cheesy and really good (pretty heavy, but still good haha). We also got fried okra which was yummy. Everything was super good, and portions were fairly large (including the sides!). We'll probably stick to the meat plates next time we come (just more food). Also the ladies serving us were very friendly and patient as we chose what we wanted!

I've always enjoyed 5 star bbq but it had been some time since I've last visited. The setting of the restaurant is a converted two-story residence with ample seating upstairs. There used to be only industrial buildings around, but now it's surrounded by newer commerce. The ribs were fresh and tasty, but be aware they are on the fattier side, if you prefer a more lean rib. The brisket was also tasty, but again you'll get some fatty pieces unless you speak up and prefer a more lean cut. The creamy corn is some of the best you'll try. The Mac n cheese was pretty good. The cornbread was good, with the whipped butter and is pretty dense. I tried some of the beans and they were smoky and delicious. The service was also great. We received great service from Sean and Spencer. Everyone else was nice and helpful as well.

I got here Thursday after work and it was quite empty. We were immediately served. The design style of this restaurant is definitely older/rustic. I ordered the brisket, pork with Mac and cheese, fries, mashed potatoes and creamy corn as a side. We were disappointed that the brisket and pork were dry, and that they gave me corn bread instead of the garlic toast I asked for. The fries were also a little too salty, and the corn and mashed potatoes were just ok. For the price and the quality of food, I won't be back!

5 Star gets a 1 Star. The brisket was TOUGH and DRY enough to back me up like a L.A. freeway at rush hour. Third time in a row where the meats are just crap. For $20 I expect meats the are more tender than a pair of leather soles. Done with this place.

Pulled pork is loaded with smoke and super tender. The sausage has that snap when you bite into it and just enough kick to keep it interesting. And the sides are not throwaways. The mac and cheese is creamy comfort food. The beans are hearty and flavorful. The cornbread actually tastes homemade. The vibe is easy and welcoming. I genuinely don't know how this place has such good reviews. This was our first and only visit…read morehere. My husband ordered take out from in the store. 1. The ribs were smothered in their raspberry bbq sauce which is just not good. Shame because the ribs were tender and cooked well. 2. The brisket. Who taught this person carving tonight how to cut brisket??!?! As someone who lived in central Texas for almost 6 years, the way this meat was cut was offensive. We got a a pound of brisket and they were cut into GIANT chunks almost an inch thick. Brisket is supposed to be SLICED and it's not supposed to be covered in sauce either. Thankfully the classic sauce is actually good but it ruins the bark!! The bark lost its peppery bite being covered in sauce. The point of brisket is it doesn't need sauce if it's done right. The chunks were so thick it made it chewy. Maybe if sliced thinner it would've been better. 3. The potato salad tasted like it was made with dole whip cream it was terribly sweet. The Mac and cheese had no flavor to it at all, and the beans were alright. 4. The sausage was flavorful and juicy. We finished that. I feel so bad for the people of Utah that think this is good bbq. It is not. I don't expect Texas bbq outside of Texas but this was just sad and not worth the $80 we spent. And what's worse is we are still hungry because the ribs were inedible and the brisket was so chewy. And, please please please go over meat carving with whoever was cutting the brisket this evening (4/7).

Come hungry, come for the meat, skip the spring rolls I am…read morenot a big meat eater by nature, which makes it saying something that Umami Japanese Barbeque has earned a regular spot on my list. There is something about cooking your own food at the table, at exactly the temperature you want, in exactly the amount you want, that turns a meal into an experience worth repeating. The concept is all you can eat Korean style tabletop grilling with two menu options. The Umami Buffet Experience covers a generous selection of quality meats, and the Full Premium Experience adds New York strip steak, Japanese short ribs, lamb, tri tip, shrimp, calamari, and cow tongue. We ordered one of each to compare. Honest verdict: the regular buffet holds its own and the premium upgrade did not justify the price difference enough to order it again next time. The table sauces are worth exploring. The roasted sesame is my personal favorite, but the miso apple and garlic shoyu are both worth trying alongside your meat. A selection of vegetables comes with the grill as well. One welcome improvement since my last visit: the ventilation setup has been redesigned so the smoke no longer follows you home in your clothes for the rest of the evening. A small thing that makes a real difference. The time limit is around three hours, which is more than enough. Forty minutes at the grill was plenty for us. Now for the honest part. The cold buffet side needs work. The spring rolls were a miss, the Hawaiian mac salad was forgettable, and the only sushi option was a California roll that did not taste fresh. For a restaurant that executes the grilling experience this well, the appetizer and salad bar deserve more attention. Four stars for the meat, the experience, and the improved ventilation. Come hungry, focus on the grill, and set your expectations accordingly for everything else on the buffet.

The jalapeño ranch brings just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the brightness of the mango or the creaminess of the avocado. It's a well-composed dish, and easily the best thing I have eaten so far during an entire week in Utah. The sweet potato fries matched it: crispy outside, soft inside, the kind of side you keep reaching for without meaning to. Service was fast, atmosphere rustic and clean. No ceremony, no friction. I am already rearranging my remaining days in Provo to fit in one more visit before leaving the state.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was beyond disappointing…read more My husband picked up dinner for us tonight, and it was one of the biggest wastes of money I've ever spent on takeout. We ordered a large sweet potato fry to share, and the container was only filled about halfway. I also ordered the beet salad with extra red beets, extra gold beets, and extra goat cheese. We were charged an additional $1.50 for each add-on, yet my salad arrived with zero goat cheese, only four tiny slices of red beets, and five tiny slices of gold beets. Cubby's has always been notoriously stingy with the beets, which is exactly why I paid extra for additional toppings. Instead, I ended up with even less than the standard portion. In the end, I paid $18 for what was essentially a bowl of spring mix with two slices of avocado, three orange segments, no goat cheese, and nine paper-thin slices of beets. That's unacceptable. To make matters worse, we tried calling to speak with a manager, but the phones were turned off at 8:15 p.m., even though the restaurant advertises that it's open until 9:00 p.m. This was the last straw with Cubby's. The night shift clearly needs better training and quality control. Charging customers for extras and then not including them is not okay. If you want to waste your money on food that is carelessly prepared and doesn't match what you paid for, this is a great place to go.
