Cubby's was a lunch stop that immediately earned a return visit before I'd even finished eating. I enjoyed the mango salad: Spring mix, marinated chicken, feta, avocado, toasted pistachios, mango salsa fresca, cilantro, and jalapeño ranch--Every bite hitting a different note, nothing fighting for attention, everything tasting genuinely fresh. The jalapeño ranch brings just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the brightness of the mango or the creaminess of the avocado. It's a well-composed dish, and easily the best thing I have eaten so far during an entire week in Utah. The sweet potato fries matched it: crispy outside, soft inside, the kind of side you keep reaching for without meaning to. Service was fast, atmosphere rustic and clean. No ceremony, no friction. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was beyond disappointing. My husband picked up dinner for us tonight, and it was one of the biggest wastes of money I've ever spent on takeout. We ordered a large sweet potato fry to share, and the container was only filled about halfway. I also ordered the beet salad with extra red beets, extra gold beets, and extra goat cheese. We were charged an additional $1.50 for each add-on, yet my salad arrived with zero goat cheese, only four tiny slices of red beets, and five tiny slices of gold beets. Cubby's has always been notoriously stingy with the beets, which is exactly why I paid extra for additional toppings. Instead, I ended up with even less than the standard portion. In the end, I paid $18 for what was essentially a bowl of spring mix with two slices of avocado, three orange segments, no goat cheese, and nine paper-thin slices of beets. That's unacceptable. To make matters worse, we tried calling to speak with a manager, but the phones were turned off at 8:15 p.m., even though the restaurant advertises that it's open until 9:00 p.m. This was the last straw with Cubby's. The night shift clearly needs better training and quality control. Charging customers for extras and then not including them is not okay. If you want to waste your money on food that is carelessly prepared and doesn't match what you paid for, this is a great place to go. read more

We came here upon the recommendation of my brother. I'm glad we did! They have an array of healthy vs. non healthy options and all are great. We ordered the chicken sandwich, buffalo cheese rosemary fries, sweet potato fries, and the beet salad. The chicken sandwich was pretty good, with a thick cut of chicken, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. The sweet potato fries come in one side and are crinkle cut - very good, though I wish they had normal crinkle cut fries too. The regular size rosemary fries was a bit on the smaller side, which is why we had to get another side of fries. The disappointing thing with the fries is that they make it sound like the fries are topped with the melted blue cheese, but it actually was just a side of sauce that came cold, which was unexpected. The beet salad was pretty good but could have used more vegetables on top of the greens. After you order, they come to your seat with the food. Overall, it is a big space that accommodate many customers with outdoor seating as well. We enjoyed our time here but there could be some improvements with the food. This Cubby's is incredible!!! I come here often to study, and the staff has started to recognize me, which already says so much about their customer service. One of the staff, Rafael, came over and handed me a Rice Krispie treat just out of kindness because he noticed how much I study there. It genuinely made my day and showed how thoughtful the team is. The first bite had a waterfall of delectable juice going down my hand. Taking a look at the ingredients and the meat, this isn't any fast food burger, this is quality. The burger itself made me forget how much money I paid for it because it was just that good! I love that the menu has pictures of their food and that the menu isn't huge. You know they specialize in each of their menu items by how your taste buds go crazy biting down into your food. I don't come here often because it is expensive but when I do come it is a treat! The fries were unique and delicious, I do recommend the food here because it'll make you dream of eating your meal a second time! Came to Cubby's with work colleagues. They have lots of interesting choices. Service was quick which was nice because we were on a schedule. Both my friends got the Dragonslayer and the Buffalo Bleu Cheese Fries. They enjoyed both items. I got the Cockadoodledoo and sweet potato fries. The fries were good very crispy. The chicken however was on the dry side. Usually not too big of deal, but for the price it was disappointing. That being said I would try again with a different item. I've been here a few times and the food is good! The interior is nice and there is tons of seating. The staff is always kind and friendly too! I was a little disjointed that the Buffalo Chicken Salad isn't part of the menu anymore and the Buffalo fries weren't as much and definitely weren't presented as appealing as they used to be (used to come in a dish). We were pretty hungry so we totally forgot to take a picture lol. However, the Dragon Slayer was still delicious and didn't disappoint in flavor. The bun was even excellent and stayed in place as well as being a good enough bun to ensure equal bun to each bite. Even the last bite had enough bun. Also, it didn't get gross or soggy either. WOW who knew cubby's did breakfast? This was some of the best breakfast I've had in a while. We tried the savory burrito and the sweet French toast. Im more of a savory person for breakfast, so I'd recommend the burrito, but honestly both were fantastic. Best part of the burrito? Surprisingly, the tortilla! Somehow they cook that thing to perfection so it's crispy but still light and soft. I don't know how they do it. Seriously amazing. The french toast was a home run, too! Can't get enough of that sweet glaze. I think I still prefer kneader's french toast for the cream they have. Try it out if you're looking for a new breakfast place! Once upon a time this was our go-to whenever we came to Provo. The food is still very good but the combination of inflation and shrinkflation makes Cubby's a very poor value. For our anniversary dinner, my boyfriend and I decided to try Cubby's since we saw they had an Italian beef sandwich and we LOVE Italian beef. With that being said, my boyfriend got the "Mr. Beef" which was an Italian beef sandwich, and I got the tri-tip steak sandwich. To be frank, we were pretty disappointed by the Italian beef. The tri-tip sandwich was fairly good, but it honestly just tasted like bbq sauce. However, the saving grace of this place was the fries. I can't even begin to express how good the sweet potato fries were. They were perfectly greasy and flavorful. My only complaint is that they don't have ranch, but I can look past it. My boyfriend also tried the Buffalo blue cheese fries, and he really enjoyed them. The highlight of my meal at Cubby's was the blueberry milkshake. I'd go back just for the milkshake. It was awesome and the blueberries were blended enough to avoid a headache trying to suck one through a straw. Imagine the lack of oxygen that would cause. I'm surprised the hot dog eating contest people haven't adopted that as a sport yet. You can eat 52 hotdogs? Congratulations! Now you're going to watch people try to suck average sized blueberries through average sized straws while avoiding passing out. Back to the food. I got the sweet BBQ sauce on my sandwich and it was ok overall. The meat and bread could've been a little warmer, but it wasn't bad. I added the rosemary fries. My options were sweet potato fries, blue cheese fries or rosemary. Rosemary seemed the closest to "normal" option. Apparently just salt is not acceptable, but I decided I'd live on the wild side with the rosemary option. I don't actually use rosemary on anything when I cook, so it was going to be an adventure. The fries are thin similar to McDonald's, but not as thin as those monsters that make the crispy "shoestring" fries. They call it shoestring because of the taste, not the look. The rosemary looked a little like dirt all over the fries. It was ok in terms of flavor, but had the rosemary been salt I wouldn't have been able to finish them without the assistance of modern medicine. I don't expect it was a result of the heavy rosemary, but the fries were a little soggy. When you dip a fry into ketchup you shouldn't have to do it with the fry all folded over and sad. Worth noting, they had good pump ketchup with normal sized dipping containers - not the third world - we are rationing ketchup because of a worldwide ketchup crisis container. I also noticed a fry sauce option. I'm not that adventurous. Ketchup is good for my fries. If my fries are pretentious enough to need their own sauce, I'll have to pass. I've heard of this fry sauce sorcery before and I've also heard it is basically made of ketchup and mayonnaise and toe nail clippings. I'd rather have my fries delivered on the backs of trained vermin than have mayonnaise touch them. That brings me to my other observation. I was given a number for my order and it was a metal cow on a wooden stand. Don't get concerned, it was not an idol worship type cow (I did mention sorcery) just a small decorative cow with a number. I took this to my table - having stopped by the ketchup station - and noticed the pro move of adding my ketchup containers to said non-idol worship cow order marker. I should mention the metal cow is affixed via a rod that attaches to a small wooden stand. As I was thinking, how are they going to find me a nice worker delivered my meal. It was then I realized the non-idol worship cow order marker was equipped with some type of unseen tracking device. I think this sorcery is connected in some way to the fry sauce. My Standardized Yelp Ratings 5 stars - This is for a place that I see as one of the best at what they do (steaks, sandwiches, BBQ, seafood, etc). 5s are for places I've been several times (typically) at least and never had an "off" experience. The food quality, service, price and atmosphere are all going to meet or exceed expectations. 4 stars - This is for a place that is good, I would drive a little out of the way to go, and the food and service is good, but maybe not amazing. Also for me, this could also be a great place that serves Pepsi products - automatic 1 star loss - bad management decision. 3 stars - This is for a place that I view as standard. Nothing special, nothing lousy, not a place you'd avoid like the plague, but a place that is not one you really look forward to either. 2 stars - This is for a place that had something go wrong or something perpetually wrong. The food and or service is likely consistently suspect here (they probably serve Pepsi too). 1 star - I can't see wasting time writing a review on a place that gets a 1 star. The tritip salad was awesome, I wish it came with a touch more dressing. (I'm just a sauce girlie hehe) sweet potato fries were so flavorful and cooked wonderfully. Great flavor and portion sizes. The burger was cooked medium which I like but it was lacking seasoning. The bacon was nice and crispy. This Cubby's used to be so delicious. It was the very first one. But the last 4-5 times I've been, over the past year or so, the food quality and service has greatly declined. Either they have completely messed up my order or it has come out super sloppy. I got a nasty long hair in my Houdini Burger. I have a sensitive gag reflex so I just had to chuck it. My wife is a nurse at Utah Valley and they ordered in. Her chicken salad came with super dry chicken, Only two croutons and only two cherry tomatoes. It was a sad sight. The staff seemed to be goofing around a lot. Playing loud music. Which makes the restaurant very loud because it was not built well at all for acoustics. We were recommended to try Cubby's for lunch, in particular the Tri-Tip Steak Salad. It was PACKED when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The line took maybe 15-20mins to get to the front, but at least their menu is on the wall by the line so you can decide before you get up there. The cashier said they enjoyed their tomato soup, so I ordered that and the Tri-Tip Salad. My bf ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad, both with an extra, free side of dressing (you're charged after the first side for each salad). The flavor of the soup was good, although I wish it had more chunk to it. It was just a little boring. I'd have to say the same for the salads -- the dressings look great when described on paper, but the flavor was watery and bland. The salads were skimpy -- definitely could have given us more lettuce, especially for the prices they charge for their full sizes! The steak and chicken were tender enough. Nothing extraordinary.
