Desperate to find someone for my last minute, time-sensitive carpet cleaning job, I turned to CL and messaged a half dozen ads. David was the first to respond and say that he was available in my time frame. Scheduling was quick and easy. Day of the service, David and his son show up right on time, cheerful and friendly despite this heat wave. I was worried that the square footage was too big, but they did not bat a lash at the number of rooms, and they honored the special listed on their website without question. Hired 5 Star to clean an area rug, patio cushions and sofa. Area rug was so wet 8 hours later, I had to drag it into the garage to dry so it wasn't sitting on my wood floor. Technician did not remove the dirt path from the rug. The technician did not have the correct product for the patio furniture cushions so they were not cleaned properly. Technician ruined my $2,400 sofa. Sofa cushions were faded, did not match other parts of the sofa. Left stains on back of sofa. Even though I confirmed with the furniture store that the fabric could be steam/dry/cleaned they blame me for the fading of the seat cushion. 5 Star takes no responsibility for the sofa. The entire passenger side door of his VAN was missing and fastened by a rope. 2. On Craigslist it was advertised $178 any size house. Once he arrives demanded $550.00. I declined his demand and negotiated for $220.00. Since I was desperate, and my furniture were out the house already, I agreed to pay $220 and he demanded to be paid in the form of cash only. 3. HE then asks myself and my Daughter to vacuum so that he can be done early. Myself and my teen daughter used two vacuum cleaner and clean the entire 3-bedroom house. 4. HE used machine that did not suck up the water. It looks like he was using Floor Polishers. He reported" machine is patented that works with cold water only." They'll quote you a price on the phone/email, usually a coupon price or price posted on their craigslist ad.  When they come over they'll spray their special pre-treatment all over your carpet.  Now that your carpet is soaked with their mystery pre-treatment they will now explain that they cannot guarantee that they can fully clean your carpet without using their super special cleaning liquid and it will cost $100 more than quoted.  You'll agree since they're in your living room, your carpet is soaked, and you just wan't them to get it over with.  Other highlights from my experience" - "Dave" called 15 minutes before they were supposed to be here saying they'd be an hour and a half late. This is probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. They did not clean the carpets they jusy sprayed a chemical on the carpet and raked it into the carpet no removal afterwards or any type of steam cleaning. I had scheduled them to come At 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday they called on Tuesday said they're Running behind and we Would-be the 1st ones on Wednesday morning. 8:00 a.m. came around on Wednesday.....8:45 passed....and no one was there yet . After 15 minutes of trying to get ahold of them I finally got a gentleman telling me that the technician decided to do another house 1st. I was not happy and requested that someone come to my house immediately. The 2 technicians showed up around 12 o'clock and were finished by 1245. I have a 2500 ft² home. It should take much longer than 45 minutes to shampoo carpets. The 2 technicians that came out came in a beat-up car, yes a car.. also were fighting and cussing at each-other the whole-time they didn't even finish the job. They left 2 of the rooms just sprayed. Like others, I wish I would have looked at Yelp before hiring (on the recommendation of my real estate agent) this company. Below is a copy of the email I sent them: "The cleaners who came, a woman and what appeared to be a teenage girl, were there all afternoon and into the night. I came to the house at 4 pm to see how the cleaning went (we were scheduled to have them start at 9 am but they didn't come until 2 pm), and interrupted them, so I left. I came back at 8 pm and they were still there, and our clothes dryer was running. My neighbor called me at 10 pm saying he thought people were burglarizing the home and I had to explain that there were cleaners there. So, as far as I know, they were there at least 6 hours. I attached a few pictures to show how the home still looks. There is still a heavy coat of dust and dirt in all rooms, piles of debris on the floor that I've had to sweep, cobwebs on the walls, and smudges and smears on a lot of the glass. In addition, there was frozen food left to melt in our (unplugged) refrigerator. In all honesty, it does not appear to me that any cleaning was actually done. People who toured the home this week also pointed out that it didn't appear clean. This is really hurting our ability to sell the home, as buyers expect a property to be presentable." read more

I called a couple more time with the call going to voicemail. I also texted them with no response. I would think they would have been honest with me about showing up. Not away to run a business. This company is pathetic. DO NOT USE THEM. I had an appointment with them this morning and they never showed or called. My boss had an appointment with them this morning at another location and they arrived 1 1/2 hours late. They used bleach on the carpet before shampooing and then used a machine that did not suck up the water. The carpet was left soaking wet. The $99.00 special on Craigslist is not worth it. I am extremely disappointed with the level of customer service from Dave Sherrey, owner and his partner. A few weeks ago we had our carpets cleaned so they would be fresh for our open house with our realtor, and Dave had to come out twice because his equipment wasn't working. Then after he finished the job, it stunk up the whole house like mold and rotten garbage! We were forced to cancel our open house with the realtor because it was so awful! Then we tried to contact them numerous times for help and never heard back. At one point his partner answered and said he'd call us back in 5 minutes, but then he NEVER CALLED! We decided to go with another carpet cleaning company that had to use lemon balm scent to take care of the damage of 5 Star Carpet Cleaning. I am so frustrated with them. I wish I could give 0 stars. We are a Real Estate team in Seattle who provides cleaning for our listing clients (also carpet cleaning if needed). We had a particular listing at a building downtown that we needed to schedule with the sellers, other vendors, and the building all before we staged it - it was VERY important that everything be done in the right order. I ordered the clean to be done on a Friday afternoon. Well, an hour after the scheduled time of arrival for 5 Star Carpet Cleaning, the seller calls me asking where they are because she hadn't heard from the concierge yet. I called them to find out what happened (figured there must have been a good reason). No answer. I left a voicemail saying it was urgent and that I needed a call back. I called at least 4 times before I had to move on to try to find another carpet cleaner for not only short notice, but on a weekend (with no luck). I was infuriated at this point since they just seemingly didnt show up. I finally had my husband call on my behalf from his phone - they answered first time. He knew the situation so asked what had happened, when the guy at 5 Star was stammering trying to explain himself, he said he called me (which he did not! Also, I had no voicemails from him). He said something about, one of their other guys needed the machine they use to clean the carpets so they couldn't use it for us - when we asked why they didn't bother to show up they didn't have a good reason. Oh and we had used them on a prior listing in a condo building near Westlake and their machine tripped the power in our seller's apartment. They assumed it was the building's fault (built in 2005) but when they tried it in the common area, it ended up being their machine that was broken. They had to come back the next day with a new machine, they were apologetic and said they'd discount us 10% for the inconvenience. Well, not to my surprise, they did NOT discount our bill. I was too busy to follow up and get my $30 back or whatever. Needless to say, we will NEVER use them again we will be taking them off of our recommendations page on our website. I wish I could give those people negative numbers! They are the worst ever people to let them into your house. I called them for move in cleaning and they left the home worse than it was. First of all they arrived with a bucket and a mop( thats it). The didn't touch the kitchen ...sticky counter tops, dirty refrigerator as if it has not been touched. slippery floors. And they kicked us out of the house claiming that they use alot of enzymes that might harm us...ending up that they kicked us out to make sure nobody is following and to just do some parts of each room, and soaking the stairs so that we don't go to the upstairs until they leave. They came to the house on Sunday, (Olympia) He was only 30 minutes late, he was sketchy from the minute he walked in. I was planning on using the promo special (coupon) for $189.00- posted on their website. I e-mailed Dave, and we worked out the time and date. When the worker showed up in a plain white van, he did a walk thought the house, and gave me a quote 4 times the amount of the original price. He told me this was an 800 dollar job, and it couldn't be done for less, then he lowered the price to 600 and I said I planned on the coupon special. He then came back with $400.00 option. I said I only have the $200, and that is what I agreed to paying. He proceeded to clean the carpet, but would leave for a while, then come back. Then clean for a while and return. it was a very strange experience. I wrote a check, and he wanted cash, then I had to make the check out to a specific name, this felt strange. The next morning, the carpets looked worse than before. I called Dave, and was in the process of explaining the situation, he hung up on me. I would run fast and far away from this company. I will be paying twice for the experience, because I now have to pay someone else to come and fix. I would have been willing to work out something with Dave, except he hung up on me. 1) 30 minutes late 2) gave a quote that was 4x the agreed upon price 3) kept adjusting the quote 4) disappeared throughout the day 4) insisted on cash 5) carpets look worse than before 6) hung up on me 7) had the check made out to someone elses name. I don't know what happened within the month from getting my upholstery cleaned to the carpets cleaned but it was very bad. They cancelled due to an emergency on my appointment date. Then when I reschedule for the following morning at 8am they didn't show. Apparently after calling and calling they decided to change their schedule. The nice man ruined my extensive carpeting, creating large white splotches all over and then tried to blame Chem Dry, which I had used once in the past, for the problems. An independent carpet cleaner said that was nonsense, it was all his fault, and he gives the carpet cleaning business a bad rep for being so irresponsible. After emails and phone calls, he finally picked up, came to rinse the carpet and said that was all he would do regardless of whether or not rinsing worked. It did not. He said it was MY fault for not telling him I had once used Chem Dry! STAY AWAY from this business and avoid the kind of headaches I now am faced with. They aren't cleaning my carpets, but on early Saturday morning they have their truck parked next door behind the houses with the noisy business end pointed at my patio and house! Two hours and counting... Why can't they consider how loud their unit is and point the back end close to and directed at the house they are cleaning?!!!? It's not even occupied! Think. You are in a residential neighborhood, 40-ft wide lots, slopes down from back to front... don't point your noisy cleaning system at the neighbors house and allow the roar to reverberate for hours!! A year and a half ago, I used their cleaning on both my new home and my townhome (used for a rental). Dave came out and did the work himself. He seemed really nice and made a point to show me all of the spots or discoloration that he successfully removed. I was fairly happy with the job and paid him. However, as the carpets began the dry, the spots all came back. By the time 2 days had passed, it looked as if we hadn't done anything. I don't know what he does that makes it appear clean when wet but dirty when dry, but whatever it is, it is not worth the money. I called him as soon as I realized what was happening thinking that since he owns the business he would surely want to rectify the problem, but he would not respond to my calls. I probably called him 10 tens and left him at least 2 detailed voicemails, but he didn't call back once. He does a crap job of cleaning and has horrible customer service.
