I walked-in on a busy morning for a pedicure. There were 4 ladies ahead of me and two people working only. 3 of the 4 ladies were near the end of their service already. I wait for about 25 minutes on the massaging chair with my feet dipped in the water. The water was nice and warm, but after time went by, it got a bit cool. Or maybe my feet got used to the temperature and needed more warm water. Mary work on my pedicure. I got the Luxury Pedicure. She scrubbed the shit out my feet! To be real transparent, I had some dry callous that I wanted to get rid of (why I came in the first place) so I loved that she took her time and irked on my callous. Mary did an amazing job at removing my the callous. She used a foot shredder-looking tool and some callous softener. It was real nice. She used like 2-3 different oil and lotion to massage my feet and calves. I remember one of them was purple and it smelled very good. The Luxury Pedicure also came with hot stone massage. Hot stone massage was okay, until Mary used the warm rock and pushed it against the bottom of my feet-- it felt so nice and I had to tell her that it felt very good right then and there. After this, the service was followed by hot towel wrap on each claves and bagged wax for each foot. Mary went to work with another client who walked-in wanting to do their nails. The wait was quite long and I started to begin to feel unattended. The hot towels were now cold and I was starting to get cold because I had wet towels wrapped on each claves. Probably 15-20 minutes later, Mary came back. She was apologetic and thankful that I was waiting. I didn't mind, but it did got to me a little. I was getting cold and wanted my pedicure to be done already. She came to give me some more massages with oils and lotions. We chatted and it was cool. I felt pretty relaxed and cared for during the service, the wait in between was a bit too long & threw my mood off. If you're in a rush or have things planned for the day, I'd say schedule an appointment or just be aware that on a Sunday, there may only be two people working and service may take longer than usual. There is a $1 charge if you use card. Bring cash if you want to avoid that. I don't know if there are additional charges if you want gel polish, etc. I didn't get any polish with mines, just my preference. My total was $61. Overall, I had a good experience and I would come back here again. read more

The absolute worst dip manicure I've ever had. I've never had dip put on the way this man did, he filed it while wet, didn't use a hardener, it was absurd. The girl next to me said she was scared. They also picked my nails off with a pair of cuticle clippers. By the time he was done drilling my nails down I could see through my natural nails they were so thin and could bend in half. The only reason I'm giving 1 star is bc they gave me a bottle of water. So uneven, not drilled, disgusting nails. I am from out of town and am incredibly disappointed, I then had to go to target and buy my own drill to somewhat fix them. read more

I just got my nails done there and they are absolutely terrible!! I tried to tell the man doing my nails that they were super bumpy and the shaping was not good at all, and he didn't even bother fixing it. He didn't follow my inspiration picture AT ALL, i wanted nude nails with french tips on only three nails with snowflakes on every finger, he put french tips on all of my fingers even after i asked him not to, and they are the MESSIEST french tips I have ever seen, didn't even bother cleaning them up. The snowflakes are the only decent part about these nails and they don't even look good, not only that but at the end of the process I noticed a big white glob of nail polish on my nail, they looked right at it and did not remove it and put top coat on anyway! I don't typically have my nails done but after the set I got for my wedding popped off I decided to spoil myself with another set. After looking at the reviews I decided to try 5 Star. I called on a Thursday morning and was able to secure an appointment for that afternoon. When I arrived there was only two other women getting their nails done and I was able to go back right away. 5 Star is clean and well-decorated. I believe they had about 7 chairs for manicures and 4 chairs for pedicures. It was nice and quiet and they offered me a beverage, which is always appreciated. I was a little confused about exactly what I was getting - I had thought I was getting the dip but she ended up doing shellac over the top of something else, she said it was really strong. I told her she was the expert and was happy with whatever she suggested. I was very happy with the job that she did, my nails look great. She was quick and the prices were very fair. Not a fan! Stopped in to get a pedicure while I was in town for work, cheapest is $35. They charge a fee for credit/debit, but have an atm in the shop. First of all, they need to take the word Spa out of their name, nothing spa like at all. Loud employees and loud customers. Pedicure was less than 30min from start to finish. Cut my nail so short that when he started to file it, he broke the skin....ouch! Barely removed any rough skin, walked out with rough skin still on heels. No massage and he wiped my legs with a hot towel for about 10 seconds. He was ready to move on to the next one! He never came back to put my shoes on, I had to ask the gentleman next to me to help. My elderly mother went in for a mani/pedi yesterday. The services were excellent, except Mary cut mom's finger with a big clipper. Yes it bled and we had to stop for bandaids on the way home. This probably wouldn't have happened if Mary wasn't so busy talking on her phone. She wasn't taking appointments. She was performing a service & chatting away in her native language. This is rude when a customer comes for a relaxing service and has such a distraction. Customers should come first. Put the phone away! read more

I really really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately my experience was not great. I called and requested Mary (who I know from another salon) and was told she was not working. They assured me all of their staff was well trained and told me to come in at noon. When I arrived I was told 'Oh, I thought you were making an appointment with Mary. They then said to pick a color. I asked for the deluxe pedicure ($60). Let's just say it was not a delux compared to others I have had. In their defense, there were only 2 people working and they were overbooked with appointments. Plus, they seemed to be unwilling to turn walk ins away (I observed this as I was sitting there). My massage was so minimal I am not sure it actually happened. And the callous removal is spotty. The color application is very uneven (thick in some places, not so in others). I debated about writing this but I feel like if they want to be successful they need to consider a few changes... including honoring appointments (and not overbooking) and only accepting walk ins if they are able to handle. Trust me, if I'm a walk in and turned away I will respect the place for not trying to skimp on service by fitting me in. It will actually make me want to come back. Why yes, I am a dude reviewing a nail salon. Hello everyone! I tend to get calluses on my feet from running. I was complaining about this to my wife and she suggested getting a pedicure. I was like, "isn't that where they paint your nails, how will this help me?" Oh no, it's not just that, they do like a whole foot spa thing on your feet including removing calluses. So I searched around for reviews and this 5 Star place seemed to be mostly positive. I walked in, looked very clueless, and to the amusement of the other (all female) customers, asked if dealing with calluses was part of the usual pedicure. Then a nice lady did a bunch of stuff to my feet including using implements that resembled a nail file and a cheese grater to grind down my calluses. Afterward, hey, running felt better again. Since then I've gone a couple times with my wife where we both get pedicures. Only she gets her nails painted. She goes more than I do at this point. She likes that you get a glass of wine and they have HGTV to watch. The "deluxe" pedicure option involves sticking your feet in plastic bags full of hot wax, letting it cool, then removing the wax. I did that once, but it didn't really make a difference one way way or the other as far as my needs. Maybe it makes your skin softer? When my calluses come back (and they always do), sometimes I use my own gnarly callus-removal strategies that I won't detail here, because nobody wants to read that, but it's nice to every once in a while have a pro take care of it. read more

I decided to stray from my normal nail salon because the technician I typically see is on vacation through the end of the month... I was very pleasantly surprised by 5 Star Nail & Spa! I called around 4pm to see if they happened to have any last minute appointment openings, they told me to come in at 4:30 - Great! I was greeted by a nice lady and offered a beverage immediately. I chose to do a regular, non-Shellac manicure and it turned out beautifully! The hand / arm massage was amazing. The nail tech was very sweet. I am giving them 4.5/5 stars, but only because one nail chipped this evening - I can usually get at least a full day or two without that happening for a non-gel mani. Bummer! I would most definitely go back though. Prices are comparable to every other nail salon in the area - $20 for a regular manicure. read more

She did a great job on polish but When she was doing my cuticles she cut way too far back and peeled the skin I had multiple bleeding fingers and anyone who has experienced this before knows that it is one of the most painful things that can come from a manicure. I came here for a mani-pedi and made an appointment ahead of time. When I got there, they took me back right away. The experience was fine. Nothing special, nothing terrible. One woman did my pedicure and it looked wonderful - 4 stars. A different woman did my manicure and it was definitely sub-par. She did not even make sure my entire nail had polish on it. I could have done them better myself - maybe 1.5-2 stars. But my toes looked great! So I compromise and will rate them at a 3. I wish I would have gotten the names of both women so that I would know who to request in the future. read more

I've been waiting to post my review to see how my nails lasted. I stopped in here last minute before my vacation earlier this month. I had been on the fence about getting a manicure before my trip since most of my manicures never held up long and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money that I could only enjoy a week. I dropped by this location in the morning and made a 4pm visit for the same day; no issues getting in. I showed up promptly at 4, but had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated and another 10 (they had my nails soak in warm water) until a technician was ready. I was pretty set on getting just a regular polish manicure, but the woman next to me was getting shellac and the amount she used her hands and how long the polish lasted is what finally sold me on trying it. Boy am I glad I did! I went snorkeling in salt water, swam in a pool for 4 days and thought for sure my nails would be ruined - absolutely not. It's been 2 1/2 weeks and my manicure is still going strong. They still are shiny and look fresh - my nails grow very fast so they're just growing out. I've been able to file them twice already and the shellac is still holding strong. I would recommend taking a look at their "mood" shellac manicures since the nails change color in cold temperatures. Very cool. Pros: The TV had HGTV so there was something to watch The location Price for what you get Cons: They take walk ins and appointments so I was in there for about an hour even though I had an appointment. I'd recommend bringing a book or something to do in case you have to wait; also plan accordingly. read more

We love it there! Only place I will go for pedicures. They listen and if you tell them you don't like something they will change it. Always accomodating and nice. I walked into the store and was asked what I would like. The place had two customers in it and I suddenly noticed everyone leaving. I didn't notice the store had been closed for 45 min and people were finishing up. The lady didn't mind at all asking me what color I wanted. I felt bad but she was totally fine doing it. This was my first time getting my nails done since I moved to Madison. I went in for a basic manicure in order to remove a gel manicure that I had gotten 3 weeks prior for my wedding. The store was very clean and had a relaxing vibe. I was helped immediately upon entering the store. I was offered a drink right when I sat down. Location-wise, It is tucked away in a strip mall off of the beaten path of Greenway Station. There was not another person in sight the entire time I was there over my lunch hour today. That was quite a surprise considering how busy some of the other reviews implied, but I am wondering if the location causes low foot traffic. It did make it a bit awkward with the other workers sitting on their phone skyping, watching videos, etc. The woman who worked on my nails was very patient and careful considering how tedious the process is to remove a gel manicure. She took her time, did not try and upsell me when I told her I did not want any new nail polish and cut my nails to my exact specifications! Overall, though a bit pricey compared to other salons I researched, it was well worth the $25 to have clean-cut fingers again! I will definitely be going back to try out a pedicure before I head to Florida this November! read more

I was able to get an appointment for a pedicure the same day when other places were booked. I decided to give this place a try and was pleasantly surprised. My nail tech was Mary. A sweet lady from Vietnam. She was very friendly and talkative. The salon was clean with a nice variety of polish colors. I had the basic pedicure, which included a leg and foot massage and hot towels for $35. My feet look great! I will definitely be back to see Mary! read more

The worst possible pedicure I've ever had! It was maybe a 10 minute pedicure. No massage, cold towel left to sit on my legs, the employee didn't wear gloves, over booked staff so one staff member going back and forth between me and the other person that came with me. The only good thing about this place is their massage chair! 5 Star Nail and Spa- if you don't have time for an appointment then just say so. I used to go here all of the time when I worked in Middleton. I usually had Amy do my pedicure. Amy does a great job!!! I went in the past Saturday by appointment and was sorely disappointed. There were 3 people already getting pedicures when I sat in the chair. It took 10 minutes to do the pedicure. So, I was the last one seated and the first one done. I'm writing this as I soak my feet to exfoliate and give myself a new pedicure. This wasn't the first bad pedicure there. Pretty much anyone other than Amy does a crappy pedicure. Giving 3 stars because I have been going here for 2 years. The last 6 months or so they have started to decline. Always a long wait whether I make an appointment or not. I got the luxury pedicure and a white powder fill this last time. I apparently irritated them with the white powered as they said they were busy. Also did not get the candle wax with my pedicure. My nails were less than favorable. I am sorry you need more techs but I should get what I pay for. So now I am on the hunt for a new place to go. I will not be back. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Worse mani pedi experience! I am leaving on vacation today to go out of the country for a month. Went yesterday to get mani pedi. Got there before 2. Got seated for pedi with my sister right away. She was about to start buffing my toes and doing the polish when the lady next to my sister complained she had a 2p reservation it was now 225p and stated she was going to leave. The girl doing my toes said to wait five and she would be done. So she rushed my toes. Toes had polished missed. I have a crooked toe and it got smudged cause she didn't put anything between my toes. And there were lines on my big toes. It looked awful. I was then left to wait in the chair for over 30 minutes. Then an older lady come over to do the mani. She kept leaving to get glasses and I don't know what else. I told her about my toes. She had the first girl come to fix them. She was still in a hurry and they still were not ok in my book. For note I have never made anyone redo my nails before. The lady doing the mani said she would fix them later. So I was then moved to a table. No longer near my sister. And the lady did my mani. I just wanted clear polish. She didn't put anything on. I thought ok when she fixes my toes she will put it on. Nope she tried to fix my toes but it looked rough so a third person came. The toes finally looks acceptable. But no polish on my hands. By then it was after 430p. I still had a ton of stuff to do for my trip today. So I didn't say anything. Sat and waited for my toes to dry but eventually had to leave. No one came over so I put Sandals on myself at 450p. The lady gave my sister and I a 10% discount so we paid 45$ for the awful experience. I was almost in tears because Of stress and not a good experience. When I dropped my sister off after having to drive in rush hour. I notice that I smudged the polish on my big toe when I put the sandals on myself. So I wasted 45$ because I ended up putting clear polish on my hands myself and had to redo my toes. Awful experience. Caused me to miss my going away dinner with my parents and grandmother. It was so awful. Please save yourself the misery and don't go there!! read more

Not very happy with the quality of service here. I usually do my own nails but am visiting from out of town so I chose this place based on positive yelp reviews. The staff was perfectly friendly but wow my nails look BAD. The polish is bubbled up everywhere. Seriously it looks like the is a coat of sand in the polish. I have one nail that has no bubbles but all of the rest look terrible. Very disappointed and a total waste of $25 as I pretty much have to go home and take it off right away. read more

What a fabulous find!! I happen to be visiting Madison for a class, I decided to treat myself to a mani/pedi and I am so happy I made the choice to go to 5 Star Nail & Spa. My biggest concern is cleanliness and they were spot on...they paid attention to every detail. Not to mention it truly was one of the best mani/pedis I have ever had!
