Well sadly, a couple who don't like police went in and complained about the canvasser. My husband and I had just finished giving him our signatures and out walks the couple who complained about him. As they walked out he asked them one more time if they would like to sign. They said no and actually called him an idiot. I couldn't believe that. Then someone who works at John's walked out and told the canvasser that he needed to leave. The canvasser calmly asked him why and the worker just got angry and threatening toward the canvasser. The entire time the canvasser stayed super calm and polite. The worker told him he was going to call the police, so the canvasser said he was going to walk over and away from their door (we watched him move away from John's). The worker called the police anyway. We asked the canvasser if he wanted us to stick around and he said no and that he's not worried about the police being called, because he knew the police would help defuse the situation. I would bet real money that if the canvasser were collecting signatures for something that couple liked, there would be zero complaints... John's Marketplace has now lost a couple local customers and we will be sharing this with our friends (we were all customers, but not anymore). I would have totally backed them asking the canvasser to leave if he was being rude, but we personally witnessed that he was being completely professional and pleasant. Had the worker not been such a jerk to the canvasser I probably wouldn't even have thought to write this review, but he was a complete jerk when he had to option to be calm and explain his position (the canvasser was extremely calm and didn't need some guy treating him so poorly).

I loved that they had some great open ended toys and I didn't need to worry about them disturbing our neighbors. Our server, Emma, was great! She was attentive and quick. She even made our kids chocolate milk even though it's not on the menu. Our food was amazing. We had the kids butter noodles (I'd order that for my adult meal if I could!), kids cheeseburger, deviled eggs, caprese with prosciutto, and fish and chips. The fish was so good and big! Definitely enjoyed our experience here!

The beer is solid you probably already know this. This brewery has been pumping out solid beers for years and really have their styles dialed in. Like many others, I lean towards their IPAs and being an east coast native it's so nice to have their fresh squeeze style IPAs so abundant here. The food has always been good here. I've tried a few of their offerings, burgers, salads and the like. Never had a bad bite to eat. The interior is nice and spacious but this place can get crowded especially during the summer with tourists as it's location is ideal if you're visiting downtown. If I had one wish for this place it would be for some better outdoor seating as most of it is just strung along their storefront out on the sidewalk. That works for me, especially on days I just want to munch, sip and people watch.

Garrett was super helpful and we talked a bit about what I was thinking, and found three options within my budget. We settled on a fun but not too crazy wine from the Canary Islands. He held the wine for me at the front and I was able to just grab and go later in the afternoon. The price was also just right, as it was listed for $18 more on the vino app. Came back in a week later for drinks and prices were also great with a 3 drink flight for $19 all with good pours. Had a chenin blanc, a chardonnay, and a Malbec. All were phenomenal and bar staff were friendly. This is definitely earned a spot in the rotation. Love it.

The patty was cooked with a slight pink -- exactly how it should be -- juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The spring lettuce was an interesting switch from the usual, but it actually worked and gave the burger a fresh bite. It's a solid-sized burger too, definitely filling. Only minor thing was some of the cheese slid off, but nothing that took away from it overall. I also tried the Caesar salad. It didn't come with croutons (not sure if that's intentional), and while the dressing was evenly coated, the Parmesan was a bit heavy and ended up overpowering the rest. Not bad, just not as balanced as it could be. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It's put together in a way that makes you forget you're even in the city -- relaxed, comfortable, and easy to settle into. Service was easily a 10/10. Attentive without being overbearing, respectful, and genuinely friendly -- the kind of staff that makes the experience better without trying too hard. Overall, a really solid spot. The Blueberry Muffin is an all-time favorite, and even though I get annoyed when they're sold out, it's never enough to keep me away. Most times I get a flight and try a bunch of different things. This location is charming. It has the industrial decor that now feels cliché but was groundbreaking for beer and burger spots a decade ago. With a very large patio and big garage doors, it's great during summer especially. Staff is knowledgeable about their beer, patient while we deliberated, and did us a favor to help the beer travel on the plane. The kitchen is now operated by Matt's BBQ Tacos (which I will review separately).

Great Notion and Matt's BBQ Tacos, you've pushed away customers who came ready to support your business and spend money with you. I wish you the best, but it seems you've chosen to operate not only as a restaurant and brewery, but also as a platform for political messaging. That's your right, of course, but it's a direction that may alienate customers who simply want to enjoy good food and drinks without politics being part of the experience.
