Today we went into 50th Street Caboose for lunch, the atmosphere is okay. However, the restaurant felt "dirty" like it's not sanitized very well. The menus were sticky and gross to the touch. Service was decent, we were seated right away, and our waiter immediately waited on us, however, he never asked my mom or I if we wanted any refills on our drinks. Never came by and asked how our food was. However, he was friendly and quick. The food was mediocre .. nothing to brag about. I got the turkey club and it was a little dry for my liking, but it was edible. French fries were delish though! You know I don't think I've ever seen a texmex arcade combo, maybe that's a sign of me not being worldly but it was an interesting experience. The place was a mix of dining areas and the arcade section (which appeared to also have dining places within it). Starting with the arcade, it's filled with all the traditional games with air hockey, big bass wheel, and guitar hero which I'm dumpster at. The actual restaurant (which makes the bulk of this ranking) was serviceable to pretty good. FIRST OFF, 4 people cannot subsist off of a single chip basket, it's such a small thing but man you notice the chips disappearing quick. Our actual server was really quite good however, very polite. The ambiance was to my liking, the fake flower trees were out there but much appreciated. For a GLEAMER (Grand Lubbock eating at Mexican establishment review) ranking the food was just ok, on average, meeeeh, the chimichanga was eh, the chips, queso, and salsa, eeeeh. I showed the waiter and he said something about taking care of it and 30 minutes later I had to ask if he expected me to eat the burger with plastic in it. The Sidekicks and I enjoyed our meal and game play today.... but...when it came time to pay for our meal I have to say I got a little bit irritated. When the waitress returned our change for a $100 bill to the table she handed me a stack of bills, minus the coins, and did not count the bills back to me. I counted the correct $39 in bills, and asked her where are the coins? She said it was their policy to keep the coins as they didn't carry any coins for change, and said you can just take it out of the tip. I was planning to tip her, and had $10 ready, but I said that isn't right, how do you justify that? Even if it's just small change it rightfully belongs to the customer to leave or keep as they wish. She said it was restaurant policy. I said that isn't a good policy. She said I could speak to Phil about it as he was there today. So when Phil arrived at the table he said it was their policy, if the server wanted, to round up and return the coins to the customer as $1. I said that didn't happen though, it was the $39 in bills only. I said we like to keep the coins from any transaction and put them into the grandkids piggy banks. I also said that isn't fair to the server either - I just don't feel that's a good policy. Whether in the end the server gets to keep that change or not. He stated that perhaps she then misunderstood the policy, and that servers nowadays didn't like to count back change. I stated that to me this is a pretty shady practice either way and the full and correct amount should be returned to the customer. The customer then decides to leave any coins with the tip or not. After a little back and forth on the matter he said he would go over the policy again on his server discord chat to ensure they all know the proper policy. So it appears they won't be changing their policy on the change procedure but will be sure the servers all round up to the $1 for any coins as change. He also offered to give me some gift cards for game play, which was nice, however I declined the offer. In any event, say a server has at least 40 cash paying customers throughout a busy lunch or dinner run over a day or two, and that server keeps back all the coins, but doesn't round up to the $1. That's an extra $40 just "gleaned". I personally don't think that's cool at all. Some people might think it doesn't or shouldn't matter, but I doubt I'm alone in thinking that it does matter. It's the principle behind it. And yes, I always tip when I receive good food and good service. I still tipped out the $10 to the server, and I also left the .39 on the table. I just think correct change in its entirety should be returned to each customer. And I think every person serving the public should know or be taught how to count back change. I was looking for a bar/pub like place to get a bite to eat and have a few beers while watching Sunday football. They do have a lot of screens for all the games. The staff have no idea on how to use the remotes though. One bartender hit the remote and a patron had to fix the tv's. The food was not good. I got chili cheese fries and was not given any utensils and had to get my own napkins from the end of the bar. The bartender was leaving and asked if I wanted to close my tab, so I did to give her a tip. I was there for a while watching football and finishing my beer, no one bothered with me after closing my tab. Right before I left, I heard staff talking behind me. **Boxed Mac and Cheese Alert** Wow. This place really made me sad. It felt dirty right as I walked in. The hostess was nice but nothing else was. We started off by ordering Chips and Salsa, Bacon Cheese Fries, a water and a Dr Pepper. The Dr Pepper was so watered down it was just carbonated water. Naturally, we asked for another one. Same thing. Wasn't any better. Our waitress left both cups on the table instead of removing them, and she was hard to find when we needed her. We had to flag a different waitress down to take the menus because ours didn't. We then ordered some Texas Chili Longhorn Enchiladas with a side of Mac and Cheese and Refried Beans as well as the Awful Awful Burger. The burger looked great when it came out; The Longhorn Enchiladas... not so much. It looked like a pool of cheese in a dish with diarrhea in the bottom. The Mac and cheese was literally Kraft out of a box and the beans had that metallic can taste. Disgusting. So far it looked like my burger was going to be the only highlight. I bit into it and... it was undercooked. It is unsafe to eat undercooked ground beef. We talked to the manager about our experience, and he admitted that the Chili came out of a bag and the Mac and Cheese came out of a box. None of it was fresh and he said they keep doing it because "it sells". Isn't it a little unethical to take someone else's product and sell it as your own for more money? There were absolutely no redeeming qualities about this place. I usually give restaurants another chance, but they'll be just fine without me. read more

Ordered 3 chiles rellenos with refried beans and papas. This was a to go order. Got to the car and there were no sides. No refried beans and no papas. The queso was in a 4 ounce styrofoam cup (!!) with saran wrap covering it. I went back in with the little sad cup of queso. The to go person (didn't say his name) said they "ran out of to go containers". It was the saddest little cup of queso I ever saw. I asked about the refried beans and papas. He said they are gonna work on it. 25 minutes later, still waiting, so I decided to leave, without the sides. I got home and opened the chiles rellenos, and there were only two, instead of 3. These are the famous queso beef rellenos that we always get, but there was no queso on it, just melted Monterrey Jack cheese. The rellenos were torn up and looked like the beef was taken out. Lets start with parking, the parking lot is fairly big so theres plenty of room and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a spot, unless you're lazy and don't like to walk if you can't park right up front. The host/hostess are always super polite and eager to get your name down, once they do they'll give you a buzzer and it'll go off when a table for you becomes available. Or you can sit in the bar area, it's open seating there. That's where my friend and I sat. (Note: if you're an impatient person, this is NOT the place for you on a friday or saturday night they get pretty busy) This place does have a game room for kids, and for being so kid friendly it's super clean too! (The dining and game area) Since i'm telling you about all the good stuff, you're probably wondering why i'm only giving it 3 stars, and no it was not because of the food. The foos was great!! Our server though was beyond rude. It was unreal. She didn't introduce herself, she took probably about 15 minutes just to greet us, and when she did it was with "So, are you guys ordering food or are you just sitting here?" I was honestly so surprised when we were greeted with such rudeness, I've been here other times before this and was actually treated pretty well so I don't know why the service has changed up. Good times to be had! This place is pretty cool and the food is on point. It's kinda of a smaller scale Dave & Busters. Came here to have a birthday dinner for a child and play some games. Both of those requirements were met. Food was typical bar food and the service was quick, friendly and helpful. I mentioned it was my son's bday and the waitress gave him the option of a $5 play card or a free desert. Plus he got the other staff members to sing happy birthday to him once we finished our meal. All of the food is good at 50th Caboose but to me, what really stands out is their Mexican food. You will not find a better chili relleno in the world. They have many stuffings to choose from, they are lightly battered and fried enough to give them a bit of a crunch on the outside of the pepper but the inside is moist and just full of awesomeness! There is a dish that keeps me going back to many restaurants. At 50th Street Caboose, that dish is their chili rellenos! Words can not describe how good they are! Here is a tip for you. If you have kids that want to play the games, on Tuesdays the games are half price so they get to have double the fun for the money! read more

I loved it here. We only waited 10 minutes to get seated for a party of 8. Service was fast and smooth, I was kind of of scared to not like the food since I am very picky. The food was delicious! Shameful. We have always loved the food and family fun at this restaurant. Although the hostess staff and wait were atrocious on our last visit, the worst was having my purse stolen. We waited at the bar area. No one would help us. We had to clean our own area. We ordered a drink and a menu. Never got the menu. Management retrieved my purse (it was turned in to the hostess stand after being taken outside) and Had the person on video. I waited an hour while they reviewed video. The manger Tiffany had me write my name and number on a napkin. She would call me by the end of the night regarding more info on video. She didn't even ask what was missing from the purse. Needless to say she never called. I waited a few days, called and spoke w Matt who assured me Tiffany would call me when she came in that afternoon. That was two weeks ago.
