I wasn't sure about 5411's splotchy baked empanadas compared to the even golden brown exterior of Lito's empanadas. But the fillings are good - I had the Malbec beef and Mushroom, Thyme, & Blue Cheese. Both were very flavorful although slightly less filling than Lito's. The real disappointment was the dulce du leche cheesecake which had been recommended by the cashier - lacking all the caramel taste of proper dulce du leche and overly dense, a flavorless brown paste on crumb crust. What can I say?..I LOVE this place! I live close to this location and have passed by it several times, but didn't go in until yesterday. This place is just so darn cute and I love all of their marketing. It was definitely hard not to order one of everything but I settled for the malbec beef, sweet corn, caramelized onion, and the bacon, date, & goat cheese (don't forget to get a side of chimichurri). What I love about their empanadas is that each one looks different so it's easy for you to tell which empanada you're diving into...very clever. Sadly had a bad experience at the 5411. Slow day at the spot, only a few customers. Took my girl to try some empanadas. Asked if they still had an egg based empanada without meat. Got an immediate eye roll from the guy behind the counter and decided to take my business elsewhere. A smile and being nice can go a long way. Gourmet empanadas. I like them better than Litos. 2.25 a piece though but I would rather get a couple of these than $4 cupcakes. They look bigger too. I would guess 200-300 calories a pop. Passed by this place walking down to Clark and Diversey quite a few times. It's a small place, there are a 5 bar seats at the window, 4 near the counter for ordering, and 1-2 small tables inside, with a small kitchen in the back, but it's really cute. And when the weather is nice, there are tables set up outside for extra seating. You order and pay at the counter and they bring out the food and clean up after you're done. I didn't order any drinks, but they have self serve water and I did see coffee set up. They have a great selection of veggie empanadas (and non-veggie too) with a lot of unique flavors you don't really get with empanadas. I tried the spinach and cheese, caramelized onion, and mushroom/thyme/blue cheese ones. The mushroom had a bit too much thyme. The spinach and cheese had a twist of nutmeg, but I enjoyed the caramelized onion the most. I wish I had bought some of the sauces (not sure if there was more than one option) since they were a tiny bit dry. It is definitely a place I plan to stop by again for a snack/small meal. read more

Top notch service and food! I went to empanadas this past Friday and it was my first time. I was impressed by the selection they had, but I decided to go with the chorizo and patatas and the beef empanada, they were very flavorful and soft! I have tried other Argentinian empanadas and these take the cake. Also, the price for them was really good. The service here was awesome the workers are very attentive and even thought the place is not a full service restaurant they go above and beyond! I got to talking to a friend last night and he ranted and raved about this place. Being an empanada lover I decided to go try it today. All I can say is my friend was absolutely correct! The first empanada I tried was the beef and it was alright. It was a little too garlicky for my taste, but it wasn't terrible either. I was a little disappointed though, but I moved on to the next empanada: date, goat cheese, and bacon. Three of my most favorite things together. Talk about orgasm in my mouth! It was heaven! I could have one every day of my life until I die. Now, I know why my friend ranted and raved so much about it! My final empanada was the nutella and banana one. It was delicious as well and I feel like it could be a great dessert to top off any meal. All in all, I'm positive I will be returning here as it is down the street from me. Coming from Miami I thought I had had a good empanada. Well once I tried 5411's, I was blown away. Fantastic crispy on the outside, soft on the inside empanadas. The flavors are so creative and wonderful. If I could, I would eat the bacon, date, and goat cheese empanadas for the rest of my life. The ratatouille was also a great veggie option. My favorites are the ham&cheese and the bacon dates and goat cheese. If you really like cheese you're going to enjoy the ham&cheese. Honorable mention for the banana and nutella it is tasty but the chocolate doesn't really taste like nutella. The caramelized onion and sweet corn are good but not quite as good as my top two choices. The malbec beef is sorta dry.
