    Hashbrown egg and cheese sandwich
    Aparna B.

WORTH IT AMAZING OMG. We ordered ahead and got a little bit of everything. The Hashbrown egg and cheese sandwich was amazing and then we also tried the ube cake, truffle croissant and the citrus pound cake: the pandan matcha eclair was sold out but everything else we had was more than enough and so delicious. Their iced coffee drinks were also delicious. The vibes were great inside and the staff were so friendly and nice!! I hope I can order from here again soon!

Almost everyone I know who has been to Chicago told me to visit Kasama, and now I totally get why. They're a two michelin star modern filipino spot that's a bakery by day and a tasting menu restaurant by night. The line is almost always crazy long. Pro tip: place an online order right when they open in the morning so you can skip the line for pickup. I went close to 2pm, so I only waited about 15 minutes for brunch, but most of the pastries and breakfast sandwiches were already sold out. *Matcha Pandan Eclair $9.5 ** The biggest éclair I've ever seen! You get a mini version on their tasting menu, but the bakery sells this full-size beauty. My favorite pastry from the haul! I loved the crunch from the toasted genmai and the light pandan whipped cream. I just wish the matcha flavor was stronger. *Black Truffle Croissant $16 * Every bite was packed with black truffle flavor, and with fresh shaved black truffle, truffle oil, and a premium truffle filling, I could see why it costs $16. You also get a mini version on the tasting menu. But I wasn't a fan of the crunchy pearl sugar on top. I ended up shaving it all off. *Ube & Huckleberry Basque Cake $9 Loved the little powdered sun stencil inspired by the Philippine flag. It was filled with ube pastry cream and huckleberry. Personally, I found the filling too sweet for my liking. *Filipino Breakfast $20 ** I originally wanted their signature longanisa breakfast sandwich, but it was sold out, so the staff recommended this instead. Best recommendation ever, I even thanked them before I left! Every component was so thoughtfully done, especially the meats. Now I need to come back for the tasting menu. *Oh, Hot Yam $6.85 ** Hands down the best ube latte I've had. Super ube-forward with a hint of coconut sap that made it even more comforting on a chilly rainy day in Chicago.

Really liked all the bakery goods that we got, the banana tart and the Boston cream donut. Both of which are not too sweet though very pricey. The tart was 13$ and the donut was almost 8$. I also really liked the chicken adobo and the sandwich we got wasn't as good as I thought. Was really looking forward to their breakfast sandwich but we got there a bit too late. Will definitely come back to try their breakfast sandwich. The bakery and desserts are a bit pricey but really liked it. Overall, a good experience.

    Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich

Kasama's been on my list for a few years but the long lines during brunch times deterred me from trying. I initially wanted to get a dinner reservation, but wasn't able to snatch one up even a couple weeks in advance. Spontaneously, my friend and I decided to go for lunch a couple Sundays ago. The weather conditions weren't great as it was raining moderately. This probably deterred at least some people from lining up. I got there around 12 PM and waited for about an hour, which is still long, but not as horrific as I thought. I also ended up with the last breakfast sandwich ticket since the group in front of me decided it wasn't worth it to wait in line so they gave it to me. This basically was the sign for me to stay in line. The ordering process was pretty simple. We ordered at the counter and prayed that there would be seats opened. Initially, we made ourselves comfortable at the bar, but we were able to migrate to a table shortly after. Our drinks came out within a few minutes after ordering and our food came out within 10. 12 OZ OH, HOT YAM! - 6.85 Initially, this was the drink I ordered. However, I thought it was too sweet and didn't feel like the ube flavor was that strong. My friend liked it more than the drink she ordered, so we ended up swapping. ICED BLACK SESAME LATTE - 6.85 This was the drink I swapped for, and the iced version was perfectly refreshing and nutty. It also wasn't too sweet. I would prefer a roastier black sesame flavor, but this was good enough. LONGANISA, EGG, AND CHEESE SANDWICH - 12 The breakfast sandwich didn't love like it'd be anything special, but the bun was incredibly soft and fluffy, with a custard, soft egg. The longanisa was well-seasoned, with the sweet & savory flavors bursting after each bite. I can see why the breakfast sandwiches at Kasama are so popular. Would highly recommend if you're able to snatch one. PORK BELLY ADOBO - 19.50 This item is weekend only, so I had to try it! I also love a good adobo rice. Despite it being pork belly, it was surprisingly not too heavy or fatty. The poached egg mixed in made each bite creamier. The pickled vegetables and chopped scallions were a nice touch to add a bit of tang and aromatics. I did take home half of the rice bowl home to enjoy for breakfast the next day. While this was good, it was probably the weakest of the three food items we ordered. FILIPINO BREAKFAST - 19 +1 for combo (longanisa and tocino) My friend ordered this, which came with a serving each of longanisa and tocino, a bed of garlic rice, sunny side up egg, pickled vegetables, and garnish. I had a bit of both meats, and the tocino was definitely my favorite. It was juicy, a good mix of sweet and savory -- reminded me of the Cantonese BBQ pork belly. I would definitely order something with tocino upon future visit. This was a pricy lunch, but the food was good and tasted cleaner than I had expect. I had a great time trying brunch at Kasama and would love to visit for their dinner menu when I'm in Chicago again.

The texture of the egg is like custard, almost like soft tofu in a good way! This is the breakfast sandwich w hash brown :)

Wait times are NO JOKE. I only tried their famous breakfast sandwich with the option to add on the hash browns. The egg is like custard like in texture and just heavenly. The overall sandwich is RICH & HEAVY, even for a fattie like me, LOL. I ate half with a ton of water to wash it down, and ate the other half hours later. My leftovers tasted even better somehow. I am glad I was able to try it during my trip here. Are the wait times worth it for this? For me, personally, no. I wouldn't wait more than an hour. Unfortunately, the wait times are much longer than that! I got lucky, and a friend pre-ordered it for me.

When we decided to visit Chicago to catch a pre World Cup match up vs. Germany, I figured out how far advance I have to make a reservation to Kasama. At 1201am, I was able to secure a table for 4. We have been to majority of award winning Filipino restaurants in the USA. When Kasama received its 2 Michelin star 2 years in a row, we had to make sure that we dine here. Paying for Filipino food is usually cheap, but this place is totally worth it. Many of us Filipinos are very critical when we eat at Filipino restaurants because we always say my mom or aunt cooks the dish so much better. The 13-14 course meal was perfect from start to finish. The right amount of food on each dish and well thought of. @kasamachicago First Filipino 2 Star Our favorite dishes - Sinigang Japanese fried mackerel, Kare Kare taco, Nilaga, and Pulutan with talaba & shrimp toast. Finishing the meal with multiple play on with popular Filipino dessert- turon and halo halo. But that truffle croissant is amazing it made up for not serving rice. Will need to go back to their bakery- which is one of the best in Chicago. Been to a lot of high end Filipino restaurants in the USA- Kasama is definitely the BEST!!! As a goodbye gift they sent us home with an amazing pastry. Congratulations for the 2 stars.

Ube basque cake, banana cream dessert, pecan roll
    Mary T.

Desserts were all very delicious. $7.95 pecan $13 for banana $9 for ube Although they were pricey I think it was worth it. All 3 pastries we got lived up to the hype. We got lucky and there was a very short line outside the time we went and got our pastries right away. Would definitely love to try the food next time.

Order ahead online!!! We placed an order at 8:45 right when online ordering opened. The order was ready by 10:00am. When we got there the line outside was about two blocks and people stated moving slowly. One in line even said she looked to place online ordering but it was showing ready at 1:30pm. So plan ahead! The breakfast sandwich was delicious! The bun was thin and soft and the hashbrown thin and crispy which was perfect. We also got an assortment of pastries to try of different flavors. The guava and cheese ensaymada was a favorite! The staff for picking up online orders were very nice! The team was very organized and efficient with pick up orders. Only tough part was interior area by pick up is small.

Pro tip: Set an alarm and be ready to order online at 8:45 a.m. Even though I logged on right at 8:45 a.m., my order wasn't ready until around 10:30-10:45 a.m. By the time I arrived, the line was easily two blocks long. I was lucky enough to snag a parking spot from someone pulling out right in front, and I was even happier to skip the line and walk straight in to pick up my order. Order ahead--it is absolutely the move. The drinks aren't sitting around waiting for pickup either. It seemed like they were making my matcha latte right as I arrived, which I appreciated. The star of the show was the huckleberry pastry--absolutely worth the hype. The longanisa breakfast sandwich was delicious but very substantial. For us, one sandwich was the perfect amount to share among three people; I think it would feel pretty heavy as a solo breakfast. The apple hand pie was one of the best I've had, and even the simple cookie was surprisingly delicious. We also tried a blueberry muffin, which was solid as well. The restaurant itself is cute, the space is clean, and the restrooms were spotless. Would I go back? Absolutely. But next time I'll definitely follow the pro tip and order ahead.

Look if I am going to be forced to wait in line, I might as well come early and be front of the line knowing I'm getting the freshest pickings and nothings run out yet. Showed up on a Friday morning at 730, was third in line, and waited 90 minutes. By 8am that line was already down to the end of the block. Just take my advice on this. My favorite thing about this place was how they let people in. One party at a time. Makes the atmosphere and ambiance inside feel more cozy and warm with none of that viral sensation nonsense. Best part is, when I finally ordered, the guy at the counter was super chill. Let me ask a few questions, was patient and kind. None of that viral sensation snobbery that comes with these kinds of places. Food time. The truffle croissant was unlike any other croissant I ever had. Despite the truffle it was also kind of sweet, I don't know it just works. Not hype at all. Our sticky bun had dimensions of deep burnt caramel flavor. Flavors kept unfolding with every chew. We are lumpia addicts so we had to try these. Absolutely delicious, but at over 10 bucks, anyone that knows lumpia knows you can get a dozen for like 5 bucks at strip mall type joints. And now for the main event. The breakfast sandwich with sausage, hash brown, and extra cheese was truly exceptional. It was textural bliss combined with the flavor bomb from the Filipino sausage. Would I wait 90 minutes again for another one, probably not. But I'm glad I did it just the same.

    Ariel B.

Absolutely yes! The line is long but the wait is worth it. I can on a weekday and the line was manageable and moved quickly. Of course I tried the breakfast sandwich and it is definitely top 5 in the city (maybe even top 3). The egg is perfect, the longanisa is so flavorful, the sandwich feels like a warm hug... no seriously. Wait in line... or order ahead and pick up.

Ube and huckleberry basque cake, Matcha pandan eclair, and foie gras danish
    Sophia H.

I arrived on Saturday at 9:15 AM and ended up waiting in line for two hours. While waiting, I noticed many people bypassing the line entirely by ordering ahead. When I checked the website in line, they still had same-day afternoon pickup slots available (~2PM) with a great selection (including the black truffle croissants, eclairs, and muffin tops). The interior is nicely air-conditioned, and they offer outdoor seating. The inside can get quite cramped with crowds waiting for tables and orders. After my two-hour wait, I was told at the register that the black truffle croissant was sold out. However, I kept seeing fresh trays of them being brought out--presumably to fulfill online orders. It was incredibly disappointing to wait that long outside only to miss out on a signature item that was in front of my eyes. Breakfast Sandwich-- Loaded with longanisa, hash brown, eggs, and cheese. The eggs were incredibly fluffy, the longanisa was juicy and flavorful, and the hash brown was super crispy and golden brown (no white interior to be seen) I tried the ube and huckleberry basque cake, matcha pandan eclair, and foie gras danish. The basque cake was the standout pastry-- moist with crisp edges and a beautiful blend of flavors. The Kaffe Calamansi and Manila Fog featured incredibly unique profiles and disappeared in minutes. Note: If you choose to dine in, you can luckily order additional items from your table if you want to try more!

Believe the hype. Such a cool place with great Filipino food & pastries. We usually get there around 8am or so. They open at 9. The line starts around then or earlier. I get the egg, cheese,& hash brown sandwich. The fluffy egg is magic. Potato bun is soft. Hash brown is crispy. The Ube latte is delicious hot or iced. But the star of the show is the pastries. That huckleberry basque is my favorite. Fast, friendly service. The outdoor patio is adorable. They bring your food out to you. Oh yeah, they stop some of the breakfast items at noon though. Go early.

If I place an order but pick up times says 5pm, would they open the door after 3pm for online pick up orders?

    I don't think so tbh

Did they change their online options? I don't see the breakfast sandwich as a option for ordering online anymore?

The sandwiches are listed on the online ordering on my end. Make sure you're on the "Food" tab. If the sandwiches are sold out, which is common, they will be marked as "Out of Stock". Hope this helps!

I've seen a couple of recent reviews saying they came by on a Tuesday but the website says they're not open that day. Can someone clarify? We are passing through Chicago Mon-Tuesday the end mo & was looking forward to picking some goodies up.

I'm assuming you're referring to their bakery/daytime service and not their reservation only dinner. Unless anything has changed, I don't believe they are open at all on mon/tues

Wondering what type of meat is in longganisa? Thanks

Most Filipino longganisa are made with pork, but a variety of it can also be made by chicken & beef

I plan to visit Kasama on Dec 5 Wednesday before I head out to the airport! what time should I be there with my luggage and all? lol…

I recommend you preorder your food online for pickup just in case there's a line for dining in. And there probably will be, especially depending on when your flight is. There's always an opportunity to add food to your order when picking up too

If you had to choose between breakfast or dinner, which would you choose? I know scoring dinner resos are a feat in itself, and ofc both are diff experiences. But visiting CHI and trying to figure out which one to do if we can get resos.

If you are able to get a reservation for dinner, do it! We chose the breakfast route. it was definitely worth it! Very delicious! Depending on the day the line is usually pretty long even 1 hour before opening!

Is this kid friendly? Do they have high chairs?

Is there a dress code at Kasama?

Nope! I went there right after bouldering with a friend and we were still in our climbing clothes. Everyone else was also in a wide assortment of clothing

Do you have to wait in long lines just to buy pastries?

    Yes

What's the recommended time to go on a weekend morning to get ahead of the line? I don't mind waiting, just wanna be in and eating right at 9!

If you want to be in and eating right when they open on a weekend, you should be there by 8am the LATEST. When I went at 7:00am on the dot I was the first in line, so probs 7-7:30am if you really wanna be first in line. 8:30am is too late in my…

For the coffee drinks (lattes), do they have non-dairy milk? Almond or coconut milk?

    Yes!

Can you put the cheesecake and tart in the fridge to save for later or would it not taste as good and get soggy?

I actually left it on the counter and it was still good the next day for the tart.

Are kids allowed? My husband and I want to try this restaurant badly and plan to visit Chicago for this however childcare is an issue since we have a 6 year old

    Kids are allowed yes

Is there a dinner option where you can just order a La carte from the menu instead of participating in the 13 course tasting menu?

    Nope

How long can you expect to be seated for the 13 course tasting menu?

Not sure if you mean how long it takes to be seated at your table or how long you're going to be spending there but I will answer both! I was seated immediately upon arrival and I think we spent roughly 2.5 hours there :)

Are any of their dishes or pastries vegan?

Hey! Justin. Sorry none of their dishes are vegan/vegetarian Pastries honest not 100% sure if they have vegan options.…

Is there an outdoor sitting available?

There was designated outdoor seating for Kasama (more than 2 tables) when I went beginning of June 2022

They accept solo diners for dinner and how far can reservations be made?

Reservations are made through an online system, Resy. Just have the notify on for the date that you want and you just wait. Luckily, I was able to get one but setup my Notify on a month in advance. As you as you get that notification, grab it right…

What is the price of the 13 course fine dining experience?

We went for a tasting for 2, got 3 drinks and a coffee and our total was $531 without tip.

Can they accommodate gluten free diet?

Recently, my husband and I celebrated the anniversary of the day we met. We don't always mark the…read moreoccasion, but this year it was a milestone worth celebrating. We chose to dine at Girl & the Goat in Chicago, a restaurant we had never visited before. The acclaimed restaurant by renowned chef Stephanie Izard truly lived up to its stellar reputation! One of the first things we appreciated was the convenience of the restaurant's valet parking, located right by the front patio. At $22 for up to four hours and $26 for four to eight hours, the rates were quite reasonable for the area. As soon as the three of us stepped inside Girl & the Goat (we had made a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Friday), we were warmly greeted by one of the two friendly hostesses, and were promptly led to a comfortable four-top table with a banquette and two chairs along the wall. We felt fortunate to have one of the better tables in the dining room, as some of the others were positioned very close together. The nearby two-top tables, in particular, were quite small and placed only a short distance from ours. The restaurant's rustic-industrial décor was dark but trendy and stylish, the lively and vibrant vibe was warm and welcoming. However, I have to mention that it was really loud in the dining room, as guests seemed to be enjoying themselves and talked loudly.  It was hard to hear our server and the staff who delivered and explained the dishes to us.  Our server, Yazmin, was extremely friendly and attentive.  It was very sweet of her to wish us a happy anniversary both in the beginning  and at the end of the meal.  She also checked in on us several times during the evening.  Now, on to the food and drinks. I started with a glass of the NA Sparkling Rosé ($17), which was light, crisp, and quite refreshing. My husband ordered a glass of Le Colture Prosecco ($18), while our daughter chose the Sun Kid ($18). She enjoyed her drink, although she felt the portion was a bit small, as the glass was filled with a lot of ice that took up much of the space. Since the restaurant offers small to medium plates which are shareable, Yazmin advised us to get 5 to 6 dishes for 3 people to share.  We decided to get 5 savory dishes and 3 desserts to share: Savory dishes: - Chickpea Fritters ($20), goat yogurt, green chutney, sev spice crunch, pickled rhubarb. - Pan Roasted Halibut ($37), miso-Marcona almond butter, spring onion blueberry nuoc cham. - Roasted Pig Face ($28), sunny side egg, tamarind, cilantro, red wine-maple, potato stix. - Goat Empanadas ($24), smoked tomato-corn salsa, roasted poblano crema queso fresco. - Confit Goat Belly ($38), strawberry goat braise, smoked yogurt drizzle, pickled strawberries. Desserts: - Vacation, Please! ($16), toasted coconut crunch, lemon passion fruit sorbet, rum-soaked pineapple cake. - Berry Yummy Par-tea ($16), earl grey soaked sponge cake, yuzu curd, spiced blackberries. - Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash ($16), olive oil semifreddo, chocolate fennel crunch, basil granita. The meal was just phenomenal!  All the savory dishes were cooked perfectly with bold flavors; the meats were tender and full of flavors.  There were dishes that we normally would not have ordered if we saw them on menus of other restaurants.  Here, we tried them and were delighted that we did!  Our consensus is that Roasted Pig Face is our most favorite! It is everything we love in a comfort dish -- crispy on the outside, meltingly tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor.  We will definitely order this again!  The Confit Goat Belly is a close second, with buttery, fall-apart meat and just the right balance of richness, acidity, and crunch. For dessert, "Vacation, Please!" is the one that we will always come back for. The toasted coconut crunch adds texture, the lemon passion fruit sorbet brings a refreshing tang, and the rum-soaked pineapple cake ties it all together with just the right amount of sweetness.  The other two desserts that we ordered were also very good.  The staff even brought out a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream on the house, with two lit candles to celebrate our anniversary - a thoughtful touch that made the evening even more memorable.  This dessert spread was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. I'd like to mention that the restaurant added a 4% surcharge to the bill, which the customer may request to have the surcharge remove if you choose.  We let them keep it. We spent about two hours at the restaurant. The savory dishes came out very quickly, the pace probably was even a tad too fast, but the desserts made up for it by taking a longer time.  We did not mind as we were still full, and had time to enjoy the ambiance more.  I would say it is a restaurant great for group gathering and celebratory functions, but not so much for intimate romantic date night.  All in all, it was a wonderful dinner, we look forward to returning again.

I was there the other week (I've been here at least five times before), and a busser--not our…read morewaiter--started clearing both of our plates before we were finished eating. We each only had a couple of bites left, but it definitely gave off an "okay, you're done now" vibe. Then he went to take the green beans (arguably the cult classic on the menu), and we still had more than half of them left. I had to stop him and say, "Yeah, we're not done with those. We paid for them. Can you put them in a to-go box instead?" For context, it was about 20 minutes before closing, but we ordered with plenty of time and were already eating with a "get in, eat, and get out" mindset. I've just never had someone at a restaurant start clearing plates while we were still actively eating--without asking, "Are you finished?" "Can I clear this?" or "Would you like a to-go box?" It was just... "You're done, these are leaving now." We were there for less than 45 minutes, left about 15 minutes before closing, and spent over $200 (not including the tip). With so many options in Chicago, I don't see myself coming back here.

Hands down, and I don't say this lightly - Boka is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. I don't think it's too wild to say it may certainly be my FAVORITE restaurant in the US of A. This past week was my second pilgrimage to Boka, and I was stoked as ever. We ordered some non-alcoholic drinks, a few appetizers, and our entrees (duck and black truffle chicken). We had a nice discussion with the waiter and shared our enthusiasm and excitement with him. We shared that this was our return to my safe culinary haven, and I was prepared to be dazzled again. And dazzled I was. The chicken was phenomenal. The flavors were amazing and so poignant, and the tenderness of chicken made you really question if you were eating chicken at all. Everything was so moist and tender, and each bite was a ballet of flavor in your mouth. The duck, although not the star of the show, was hearty and delicious as well. The parsnip puree added an earthiness complexion to each slice of duck. The kicker of the night was when our server brought us our bill at the end. He gifted us complimentary menus of what we ordered that night, paired with a generous "Welcome Back" and the date of our wonderful evening. That small, but mighty, gesture encapsulates Boka in a nutshell. Fine dining, excellent quality of food, topped with service that was personally catered to make our meal enjoyable. It's about the experience, and every aspect of our experience at Boka was met with extraordinary marks. I'm dreaming already of round 3 at Boka. When? I don't know. But I'll be ready to tango again.

Our server, Miguel, was phenomenal. She was attentive, fast, and gave us some spot-on recommendations. Per her advice, we ordered the deviled eggs with jalapeño, hands down the highlight of the table. The deviled eggs with paired with that subtle jalapeño kick was absolutely perfect. For the mains, the chicken and waffles were good, carrying that solid comfort food flavor you expect. The waffles were a bit soft for my taste. To drink, the sidecar was mixed perfectly, well-balanced, crisp, and hit the exact right note. Giving it 4 stars only because while the mains were good, the starters and the outstanding service from Miguel were what truly stole the show. I'll definitely be back to hang out at the bar again nest time I am in town!

We were greeted by the host in which I believe to be the manager. He was pleasant and welcome. The restaurant itself is aesthetically appealing and it gives an upscale vibe. We sat and didn't have to wait too long for the waitress. She was nice and assisted up accordingly! I ordered the bottle of champagne for mimosas with pineapple and orange juice and was pleasantly surprised by the $35 price since we're used to paying twice that back home. The food came out pretty quick and was hot and ready to eat. All of our food was good well and we all enjoyed our dishes. My only takeaway would be if guests ordered bottled water and/or champagne, the waitress should poor them into the glasses for you. From my experience, this is something that I thought was a norm. Overall, great place to eat!

My wife and I ordered the bone marrow to start and shared a single cheeseburger with the bacon and egg add on. The bone marrow with the marmalade on the side was amazing. I loved the thick toast they gave on the side. It was the perfect balance for such a rich dish. The burger is probably one of the best burgers I've had in my life. The bun was nice and fluffy, the burger was juicy, the bacon was thick and flavorful, and the egg was cooked to perfection. For a couple of bites, we threw a little bone marrow and the marmalade on the burger and it took it to a whole new level. The restaurant was small and comfortable. A tad loud with the music, but I didn't mind too much. I would gladly trade that for the delicious meal we had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great burger. Just make sure you get a reservation early.

The quality of the beef was excellent, and you can tell they use great ingredients. The burger was juicy, cooked well, and very rich. That said, this might be a hot take, but I felt like it was missing something. For all the hype, I was expecting more flavor. Personally, I think it could have used a little more sauce to tie everything together. While the beef shines, the overall bite felt a bit one-dimensional to me. It's still a very good burger and I'm glad I tried it, but based on the expectations, it landed in the "good, not life-changing" category. I'd absolutely recommend giving it a try and deciding for yourself, but for me it was just okay compared to the hype.
