White Bread sandwich with grilled bologna

56 Deli makes an excellent sandwich. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality makes it worth it. They also have more menu options than I expected, and several of them looked great. And I have to mention the banana pudding -- it was off-the-charts good and a standout on its own. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere has a classic, old-time diner feel, like a place that's been part of the community for years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It reminded me of a more homey, comfortable version of Jersey Mike's, with an authentic charm you don't find in chain spots.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was another highlight. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and you could tell they knew many of their regulars. Watching them greet their usuals added a cool, personal touch that made the place feel even more inviting. Overall, 56 Deli is a great stop if you're looking for well-made food, warm service, and a nostalgic, laid-back vibe.

My mom and I stumbled upon this place and oh, my, GOD. Im not kidding when I say this may have been the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. You build your own sandwich and they have fresh ingredients brought in every day and serve lunch until they run out! I got a ham, turkey and bacon on white with veggies on white bread. It's HUGE and messy but oh so worth it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a line out the door and I can see why![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Always such good food and service! One of the best places in Whitesboro. They are busy for a reason!

Great good. Nice people. Perfect variety. Try the Cuban sandwich and meatloaf on Friday. They also make a great chicken spaghetti.

Normally, I don't consider people from St. Louis to be credible deli evaluators, but I was desperate and made the hour drive to Grapevine. We got there at 11:15 and the line was nearly to the door. Within 30 minutes, it was well out into the street. That was a promising sign. The sandwich menu covered the entire wall over the counter. Lots of non-New-York sandwiches like Cubans, gyros, etc, but over in the left corner were the classic Ruebens and pastramis. I went for the latter. A REAL NY deli usually has a few soups like split pea and chicken noodle and matzoh. No soups. Bummer. They had a half dozen sides - 3 kinds of potato salads and a few slaws. I went with the German potato salad. The drink option was spartan - they tossed a styrofoam cup at me and pointed to the soda fountain. The pastrami sandwich was OK for Texas. A SUPER pastrami sandwich on hard rye can get me moaning like Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" -- only I don't have to fake it. The German potato salad was watery and bland - I should have gone with the mustard potato salad. Turnaround was on the slow side. Napkins = paper towel roll on table. Flimsy plasticware. The overall vibe was affordable utilitarian. I'll give the sandwich a 4, everything else a 3. Next time I'll drive the extra half hour to Cindi's.
