Just riding around through North Texas between Denton and Lake Texoma, found ourselves passing through Whitesboro. Jumped on Yelp, looking for a place for lunch, and found 56 deli. I've said this on another few reviews about other places, when you're driving by 56 deli don't judge this book by its cover. What a fantastic place, with a great team of people working there. Primarily a sandwich shop but they do run their daily specials. The special they had today today was meatloaf and potatoes with various sides. But their sandwiches are why we were there. Imagine a Subway® style line where you pick your bread, meat, trimmings, etc. Except everything's fresh, everything tasted homemade. Just amazing. And don't forget the dessert, we tried the banana pudding and it was as good as grandma's. I highly recommend if you're in the area, give them a try. read more

I've been wanting to try the 56 Deli for a long time I had the chance this week and grabs a Ruben (very good). We intrigued was the Cuban sandwich served only Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Growing up in Florida having great Cuban food, I'm very judgy on Cuban food. I went back on Wednesday and got a Cuban along with some deviled eggs and Banana pudding. First the staff is very friendly and helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a busy place, with both indoor and outdoor seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was Alerted the Cuban is not on "Cuban" bread but rather on Sourdough. This sandwich is delicious, a bright mix of flavors with their Cuban sauce. A true to form Cuban is on the Cuban bread and pressed in a Panini. The 59 Deli gives the best I've eaten a run for first place, it's very close. The portions are plenty one sandwich fed two of us. The deviled eggs were very good. But the star of the meal was the banana pudding thick sorta whipped with nice banana pieces. Hands down the best I've had. My mom and I stumbled upon this place and oh, my, GOD. Im not kidding when I say this may have been the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. You build your own sandwich and they have fresh ingredients brought in every day and serve lunch until they run out! I got a ham, turkey and bacon on white with veggies on white bread. They probably don't need this review, based on how long the line was at lunch. BUT I have to give them a huge thumbs up! Clean, friendly, reasonably priced - perfect little lunch spot. Fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and daily lunch specials. I had the chicken salad that was mostly chicken (instead of a bunch of mayo & fillers) and my friend had the homemade pimento cheese. It was fun to see & hear the mix of regulars ("You want cheddar this time?") and newish folks who got kind help making their choices. I don't live in town, but I come here every chance I get. Today I met a few friends and we had lunch at 56 Deli. Tacos, Cuban, Ruben, pasta salad, deviled eggs, street corn, and Oreo cake!
