I only found out about this street fair because Waze sent me a traffic alert about Woodside Avenue…read morebeing closed. I found a few mentions of it online but no official website, it's apparently organized by the Queens Public Library and I did spot a table giving out free books. I uploaded some photos of online mentions of it to prove to Yelp it exists! The street fair is small, maybe five blocks, and consists mostly of affordable jewelry, toys, clothing, shoes and bags. Some if was a dollar store nonsense, but other people were selling everything from rugs to pipes, incense to handmade magnets. The older woman buying a magnet made me smile, "I'm getting the STRAWBERRY, because they're in season". I mean, it's a magnet, but also, it's October. I also saw a woman selling CBD products claiming to provide instant pain relief, another offering vegan soy based candles and soaps. I bought a cute over the shoulder travel bag for just $22. There was the annoying T-Mobile truck, and an Escape to the Caribbean booth which seems a bit suspicious to me. USA Devanand Yoga Center was there. As well as Exit Realty.... But they also had bouncy castles for the kids on one of the side streets. It was cool seeing them underneath the elevated 7 line tracks. Suddenly an older woman grabbed me and started rubbing my shoulders before directing me to a bunch of massage chairs (she was definitely someone's grandma, it was cool). I'm so primed to just so no but then I instantly thought, ya know what, I DO want a massage. $15 for 15 minutes, money well spent. They put a clean paper towel over the part of the chair my face rests on without me having to ask and were very friendly. It wasn't the best massage I've had, but it was great for the setting! Food options were limited. Queen Big Candy Apples, Ecuadorian grilled corn, Cane Man (cane juice), Zeppole/funnel cake guy, Mozzarepas (mozzarella grilled in-between corn bread), cotton candy out of an adorable tiny pink truck, Panaderia Tlaxcalita - selling lemonade and fruit juices, the sausage and pepper guys, and Athens Delight doing lamb gyros, and beef and chicken kebabs. This was the place I ended up ordering a lamb gyro from, with lettuce, onions, tomato, and tzatziki sauce. For $10 this was super filling, I couldn't even finish it. It tasted a bit like sausage but sliced long and thin, really moist and flavorful. The festival was a nice walk, a fun last minute thing to do, I definitely enjoyed myself. But right now it's small enough that I wouldn't tell people to make a pilgrimage for it. I'd like to see them bring more local restaurants from the area to sell their food, or even some of the regular street vendors who work in that area. Two porta potties, pleasent surprise!

Beyond the famous San Gennaro in Manhattan and the…read moreFerragosto Festival in the Bronx, there's also the smaller but no less authentic Fresh Pond Road Festival. Held in Ridgewood, it's four days of food, family, and fun. Like any true Italian festival, it features a big shrine with statues of Maria S.S. del Soccorso Patrona di Castellammare del Golfo and Padre Pio, adding a spiritual centerpiece to the celebrations. I visited on Friday, the second of the four consecutive nights the festival runs. It takes place along several blocks of Fresh Pond Road. Parking can be tight in Ridgewood, but the location is right between the M train stop and multiple MTA buses on Metropolitan Ave. The food was a highlight, with many vendors representing neighborhood restaurants. I stopped at Corato II's food truck and ordered a traditional Sicilian pane e panelle and a seafood salad. Along with a water, the total was $20, which felt fair considering both the generous portions and the quality of the food. The festival also offers plenty of rides for kids, including a ferris wheel. At $12 for a ride on the ferris wheel, the prices were on the high side, but that's to be expected at a festival. To wrap up the night, I stopped into another local business, European Coffee Bar. Stepping inside felt like being transported straight to Italy: a classic bar, locals chatting in Italian over espresso, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Enjoying my espresso and cannolo while listening to live Italian singers performing on the outdoor stage was the perfect way to end the evening.

Well, then head on over to the Queens Night Market! Although there seems to be some kind of food festival popping up each weekend across the city, the vibe and diverse food scene here is still unmatched! The food selection has grown exponentially since I last visited over five years ago, making it easier for visitors to sample international bites all in one place. Moreover, the prices remained reasonable with most items under $8. On this visit, we tried the egg-shaped waffles stuffed with Nutella and custard, the Burmese pancakes stuffed with meat, the Venezuelan corn pancake stuffed with beef and mozzarella, and some Hainanese chicken with rice. Most of these items were delicious and the standout were the Burmese stuffed pancakes. The portions, although small, are still good enough for sharing. If you need more reasons to visit, they are also showing World Cup games here when we visited. You can have your watch party with great food options! The service is usually quite quick despite some long lines.

The portion and value at the time was definitely there. I have returned a few times over the years, most recently in 2026 coincidently for the World cup games as well! However, I feel like the food portion has decreased drastically. I do understand prices will need to go up with inflation, but the portions are much smaller from when it first started. For example, the Romanian chutney cake (dessert cone) and the amount of Filipino lumpia they provide for the price is much smaller now. For four years, the price was at $5 max. In 2019, the stalls raised their maximum price to $6, which remains the same today in 2026. From a recent 2026 Gothamist article though, 2026 will be the last year for the $6 cap so 2027 may potentially be increased to $7 cap or be eliminated. that is in the air right now. Despite the pricing/portion value, QNM is great way to try different cuisines all in one place. its a great way for growing families to chill in an open grassy area that has music and pop-ups at times (ie: HK VITA brand lemon tea had a pop up there). Parking is crowded so its best to walk from 7 train-111th st hall of science train stop or uber if you live close by. Overall, QNM is a nice event to go with friends to share items, but im personally losing the allure of it after going a few times over the years with diminishing returns.

This is the 35th year that the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival has held their event featuring boat…read moreracing with origins in Chinese historical tradition. The story begins in one of the kingdoms during the Warring States period in Chinese history, ruled by King Huai of Chu in roughly 3rd century BCE. In his court Qu Yuan served as a loyal and patriotic royal court minister, who incensed then was slandered by other officials for advocating against the neighboring state of Qin, and due to their influence was exiled from court by the king. In his banishment, Qu Yuan lamented the state of his country through poetry*, but was driven to despair upon hearing that Qin had invaded his home country of Chu. He dove into into the Milou River to his end--this is when according to legend nearby fishermen raced over in their boats to try to save his body from being eaten by the fishes. They threw rice into the water and hence the tradition arose of dragon boat racing and eating bamboo-wrapped sticky rice for this holiday. This NYC event started in 1990 on the Hudson River in Battery Park, organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office as part of a cultural exchange, though it's since become a local non-profit. The races are composed of both traditional teakwood and modern fiberglass boats with painted dragon heads and tails, helmed by a team of up to 20 people, including a drummer, a steersperson, and paddlers. Often in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in the few months leading up to the event you will see teams practicing rowing. Competitive teams from all around the NY metro region come for this event. The day of the event for most attendees, you will need binoculars or a camera with a good zoom lens to really see the action as the lanes are set up in the center of Meadow Lake, pretty far from shore. The date of the event is always held over a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in August so it's usually very hot too (this year was in the 90's), so best to come prepared with water, sunblock, and a hat/umbrella/some type of head covering. There are few shaded areas directly around the lake though there is a VIP tent section which I believe is for paid ticket holders. Aside from the races in more recent years there has been a schedule of performances throughout both days, this year included performances by the New York Chinese Cultural Center, NYC Japanese Taiko Drum group, and others. There are stands set up by sponsors, some giving out swag, that run the gamut from energy/soft drinks, local tennis organizations, insurance agencies and banks, government agencies (city services, local police, state trooper recruiting), boyscouts--truly a wide array. Some of the stands with freebies had long lines, like 20-30 mins. There is event merch available for purchase too. I appreciated that there was an area under covered tents for traditional arts and crafts, with local artists showcasing some of their work and encouraging others to participate. Not much of a line here surprisingly. Food and drink-wise there isn't a huge number of options, though enough if you want to grab a casual lunch. They had a few food trucks, and set up (see photos) of several tables selling Chinese food. Admission is free and open to the public, the event proceeds rain or shine annually. I was a participant of the dragon boat festival in 2024 and it was a tense and enduring experience…read morefor myself. This was at the boat house in Fresh Meadows Park. My team and I had to race against 3 other teams in our round for a 250 meter race. We were warming up and when it was time for the race, I was panicking and rowing as fast as I can to get to the finish line. There was so much adrenaline to win and my main purpose was to be in sync and put all that power in. Unfortunately we landed 2nd place and did not make it to the next round. Sucks so much! There was also a festival in the park dedicated to the Hong Kong Dragon Boat race. Lots of food vendors of different types of food, Chinese pastries and milk tea, Korean food truck, taco, and many more. Apart from the food, there were many charities and organizations like AARP and Resort Casino passing out free stuff like tote bags with the sign of a dragon, umbrellas, clapped hands, energy drinks, fans, dragon foams, and many more. Some of the lines were tremendously long but thankfully they moved pretty fast. Overall, a pretty good festival on a hot summer day.

Rolling in with Harleys, Barracudas, Indians and GTO's, rolling out after some drink and smoke -- laying down tracks of melted rubber with peel outs so massive, you'd have thought they had bleached their tires as the thick white clouds seemed to linger on and on, unable to see the activity at the opposite end. Every vehicle had a boom box set upon the roof playing rock music at full blast, coolers in the back seat or trunk filled with beer and the occasional arsenal of illegal fireworks. The quicker the beer was drank, the sooner the 8oz rockets would come out and fuses lit with no real understanding of where they were to be heading. My best friend and I would pull into the lot in his sun beaten red 1967 Firebird, park after a observational lap and walk around a bit to get a closer look of all that was happening. The bandshell did not offer any music then, only a place for the dealers to sell drugs of many varieties, Angel Dust being the popular item of the day. Fast forward to modern times and the bandshell hosts many musical acts each summer, family picnics have replaced the beer swilling while car squatting, frisbees replaced rockets --- and burning rubber to the sounds of Iron Butterfly blasting are a thing of the past -- gosh it feels so long ago. This transformation is clearly for the best and at now at another stage in my life, I see the young families smile as they picnic upon a pretty quilt under the shade of the oak trees -- and it makes me very happy.

Getting off the subway on West 4th St., on our way to our weekly Saturday Mother/Daughter…read moredates..yesterday......A welcome sight caught my eye......A STREETFAIR!!!!!! so after our late lunch...we hurried there so we can catch up on whatever is left .....we were surprise to find it still in full swing . I just love the streetfairs and flea markets and thrift shops....It's just the excitement of it all...I feel the adrenaline rush....All kinds of food...Indian, Mexican, Pizza, Smoothies...Fuits, Crepes.....I love antiques ... I love collecting old pieces of just about anything.... streetfairs are fun and its the same allmost everywhere....people looking for bargains...and haggling...is the word of the game in street fairs...very common...I know I am a good haggler....A friend of mine, a vendor from Hongkong taught me how...I was embarrased at first but I became good at it......there's no harm in trying....and the worst you get is a NO!!! I found 2 guys selling Estate Jewelries....Really nice items...Precious stones. Old timeless pins, rings , watches, pendants, brooches and earrings.. I must have bought almost half of what they were selling...for almost nothing and when I came home...I cleaned it all and with my microscope .....surprised to see that they are all Sterling silver and a few 14K gold rings...I have to look for these guys...and buy somemore of their stuff...I don't think they really know the value of their items...Clearview Festival Productions is New York City's largest Street festival and they have scheduled places to go to every weekend... Portobello Rd and Camden Markets is a MUST SEE when you are in London...a shoppers delight ...Fur Coats, all kinds, Fox... Sable.. Long and short hanging on the sidewalk...I found a cowhide leather satchel bag, Century Old Teacups, Old beattles records... and the pubs are all over......LeMarche Aux Puces de Saint Quen in Paris....The largest so far ...all of 6 hectars is s a very interesting flea market to visit too...Of course the food is Parisian and was surprise to see a lot of Indian food too....A Shoppers dream........Can't get enough of it.....

This is a food festival that hold its event around NYC focusing on cuisine and culture from Taiwan…read more Widely known for its nightlife and street snacks, I am very fond of those delicious memories from my visits. Therefore, I had to check out this event. On the positive side, the space wasn't crazy packed and most vendors had little to no lines. Also, our first vendor served our two favorite items of the day, Taiwanese Braised Pork Belly Rice and Taiwanese Vermicelli with Intestines. Both were quite good, though pricey. You can't miss the vendor because it was the only stall with a insanely long line. Partially because they had the most Taiwanese food options, but also because they were really slow with service. Lastly, there was live music with a good amount of seating available. On the bad side, most stalls were overpriced for very average food, and sadly just a handful of them were serving an all Taiwanese menu. Also, when we got there about 2:00pm (start time), most vendors weren't even ready to serve for about another 30-45 mins. Some vendors started selling food that really should not have been served. Sadly, lines were forming and they decided to move products that were semi-ready. Anyway, the beginning of this event felt very unorganized. There were a lot of people who showed up when they opened and just stood around waiting for stalls to start selling food. If you are interested in checking it out, they will be in Union Square next, Brooklyn afterwards, and back in Long Island City again. Imho, this festival needs another year or two before it gains some momentum, attract some better vendors to participate, and be more properly prepared to start on time.
