This is a hidden gem in Wilkesboro, tucked inside a renovated house in a quiet neighborhood. The ambiance feels upscale while still being very reasonably priced. The standard menu is small, but there are daily specials that are both affordable and excellent. I had the scallop special with crab/clam chowder--fantastic. The scallops were cooked perfectly. For dessert, the honey peach cheesecake paired beautifully with my old fashioned. The servers were friendly and attentive. They also serve as bartenders, so drinks can take a little longer than at a typical restaurant, but it's clear they work hard and stay engaged with guests. I've been going to 6th & Main Street since they opened in 2001. As with any restaurant, over the years they have had some ups and downs but this version of the restaurant is the best yet. The food quality is high. The menu has some staple favorites but contains a steady stream of innovative offerings and is still price-conscious enough for most people to find something delicious that fits their budget. The owners are very conscious of the community they serve. The service quality is high (Heather is the best!), professional and still home town-friendly, and the ambience is convivial with many regular customers who enjoy meeting and greeting at a favorite gathering place. Love this off the Main Street restaurant! I always drop in during the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival. A nice day to drop in to their winebar or be seated in one of the dining rooms full of character and atmosphere. Perfect for sitting on porch w a drink and venturing inside for a nice appetizer or to delve into a bevy of chalkboard special dining options or something off the menu. No idea what happened here but our hotel general Mgr suggested we try this restaurant and Roselli's while we were in town a few nights. This restaurant was not open on Saturday by 5:45 even though they said on their voice mail they'd be open in the bar by 5 and the dining room would open at 5:30. Sorry we missed it but it would have been helpful to have an updated VM, a note on yelp or the website. read more

Delicious food and service! Due to schedule conflicts, we had to have my son's wedding rehearsal "dinner" during 6th and Main's Mother's Day brunch. I was a little apprehensive about that, but it turned out perfect! We sat in a lovely private room upstairs. There was a large variety of options on the brunch menu, and everyone was happy with their meal- from the steak to the salmon to the eggs benedict. The lobster bisque was a huge hit and the bread pudding was one of the best I have ever had. I just wish I lived closer so I could eat there more often. read more

Me and my wife went to 6th and Main for our anniversary. I ordered my steak well done. It was quit a long wait to get our food and when it arrived, it was raw. I'm talking red, not pink. When the waitress finally came back to our table, I should her the issue and asked it be cooked well done. She came back to our table with the check but I never got my steak. When I asked about my steak, she said the chef refused to cook it any more, that is was perfect. And they left the charge for the steak on the bill. Great food, great atmosphere. Prices make this venue a place to go for special occasions. I enjoyed dinning on the poach for Mother's Day.

First time here and it's a fairly nice place that has a fine dining feel. The food and staff definitely don't reflect that. Our service was ok but the staff look unkempt, unprofessional. One server was wearing shorts. Most importantly the food. Its hard to describe what the crab cakes are like because it isn't crab meat. It smelled and tasted awful. Not recommend. The Calabash shrimp were even worse. I didn't realize shrimp came in a micro mini size like that. These appeared to be canned shrimp, which are NOT meant to be breaded/ fried. Ridiculous. Not recommend. At least I had fries and hush puppies on the same plate. Well, the fries were hard and tasted old and the hush puppy, greasy. Bread was good but wasn't easy to get. Had to ask several times. Bar is limited and alcohol is over priced. Cheers to the Chef. read more

Visiting from out of town for a second time and couldn't miss out on this place. Off the beaten path & in an older historic home in town. The only thing better than the ambiance is the food! My wife and I just enjoyed the most wonderful Thanksgiving dinner as a takeout from your restaurant. Stuffing, turkey, casserole, potatoes, rolls, pie everything perfect. Could have given us a little more gravy but I made some extra and it was fine. Not cheap, but delicious, we will definitely do this again! read more

Friday January 6th, we braved the impending snowpocaloypse 2017 and joined some friends at one of our frequented local restaurants. Entering 6th and Main is similar to entering "CHEERS", a place where everyone knows your name. 6th & Main is a family owned and operated casually upscale dining in North Wilkesboro, NC. It was a welcome surprise when we relocated here in 2015. To add a little extra variety to the standard menu, which while small, provides a nice opportunity for various palettes and prices, 6th provides a wide option of nightly specials. Tonight, it was the special offerings which had caught my eye. The appetizer I chose was Bacon Lollipops. Almost any offering with bacon will peak my interest. This of course had a 6th twist. The adventurous chef can serve up the basics with precision and then tosses in a little flair to remind you of his culinary ability. Our server Molly presented the offering as "bacon lollipops with bruleed apple smoked bacon & chocolate molasses." While it was not enticing to of a few of my dining companions, it sounded delightful for me. The stylish presentation of a generous cut of thick pork belly seared and skewered with bamboo was placed atop a smear of the chocolate molasses. The combination of the salt, the pork and the sweet chocolate were not only substantial but enjoyed. This special appetizer only primed my mouth for the upcoming meal. Next, the salad choice was again a special option in addition to the normal offerings. It was dubbed the "Winter Chopped Salad with romaine, dried cranberries, chopped pear, almonds, bacon, blue cheese crumbles and balsamic vinaigrette." This was available in two sizes for which I opted the smaller. The salad was on the small side and some additional quantity would have been appreciated, however, the salad none the less proved fresh, crisp and a perfect flavoring between the lettuce and the toppings. The balsamic vinaigrette was also balanced in its flavor and bite. Tonight's entrée was anticipated with eagerness. From the four entrée specials and the blue plate selection I chose the "Grilled Bone in Pork Chop with goat cheese yellow grits, creamed applewood smoked bacon, brussell sprouts with a pork reduction." The plating of the pork and enhanced grits was tempting as the bone in pork was tilted atop the mound of grits and Brussels with a strizzeling of the reduction. The pork was perfectly prepared with grill searing marks and sliced to reveal the tender white meat with just a touch of pink at the center. The grits were full of southern flavors of butter mixed with the bacon and pork reduction proved to be very filling and a tasty compliment to the savory pork. The pork could be cut with a fork and was tender, juicy and flavorful. The brussels were a tasty accent, slightly grilled and seasoned mixed in along the perimeter of the grits. While being a northerner, I will admit in the beginning, I was leery of meals which contained grits. However, I have grown to appreciate and look forward to tasting these offerings when the opportunity presents itself. Tonight's entree selection was wonderful. Throughout the meal I had a glass of one of our favorite wines, Whitehaven. It has become our first choice when an adult beverage is needed after a long day. The bar at 6th is always a welcoming cozy space that is staffed with people who are generous with the pours and always offer a smile and story. You can't help but enjoy a wonderful meal when paired with a perfectly preferred beverage. Despite being comfortably full, the temptation of desert proved to be too enticing not to share. Our selection of "Apple Pecan Bread Pudding with ice cream" came to the table warm, sweet and satisfying. The vanilla ice cream balanced on top of the freshly made desert made me wish I had started and ended my meal with this creation. The entire night was a perfect intimate gathering of a few brave patrons enjoying a wonderful meal before a night of snow. The conversation and laughs were plentiful between the wine and food that was prepared with flavor, skill and presented by a staff that is more friends than servers. This is my favorite restaurant! The food is wonderful as is the ambiance. Favorite meal. Lobster bisque, any salad on the menu because they are all excellent, either horseradish salmon with wasabi mashed potatoes, chocolate steak (push past your initial thoughts. It's a fantastic pairing of flavors). Or nut encrusted fish for which Chef James Welch won an NC Best Dish Award ending the meal with one of many fabulous desserts prepared by Sous Chef Hannah Yates. Some friends and I went to 6th & Main on the Saturday night after Christmas. We just wanted to have some drinks and apps. Walked in and there was no hostess. After 5 mins of waiting, the busy waitress came over and said she was covered up and it would be 30 mins before she could clear off the open table we wanted in the bar area. 30 mins to remove 4 glasses and 4 plates from the previous guests?! Come on!! The bartender came over and apologized and said he would get her to clean the table (because he too was busy), so we waited another 5-8 minutes for the waitress to circle back to the bar area and tell the bartender she didn't have time.... it was chaos so we left. Was supposed to be a fun low key night out with friends, we were highly disappointed with the lack of service.... read more

The only reason I award three stars to this less than desirable scene is because it's one of the few bars that doesn't play too safely with draft beers (they had Bell's Two Hearted last time I went). However, if six (6) people arrive at the bar before you do, it's cramped, and though I'm not claustrophobic, I still like to breathe and drink at the same time. The service is often lackluster, and the food really depends on the night of the week. Inconsistency is a crutch this place has never conquered. read more
