    Pan Seared Crabcakes

Food was delicious! Hadn't been in a super long time, but it was so worth it. Crab cakes were really fresh and my husband loved the steak. I love that this restaurant is super quiet and feels cozy inside. We had amazing service, very knowledgeable about the menu and super kind. Will be back!

Love this off the Main Street restaurant! I always drop in during the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival. A nice day to drop in to their winebar or be seated in one of the dining rooms full of character and atmosphere. Perfect for sitting on porch w a drink and venturing inside for a nice appetizer or to delve into a bevy of chalkboard special dining options or something off the menu. Give this gem a try.

The food was good but very overpriced. If their portion control was better I may have given them 4 stars. $26.00 for three scallops and some fried wontons doesn't work for me. I will not be back

Great food. Excellent atmosphere. Small, intimate. Small parking area. Pricey but worth it.

Great food, great atmosphere. Prices make this venue a place to go for special occasions. I enjoyed dinning on the poach for Mother's Day.

The best hometown fine dining experience. Heather and Jimmy Forester go out of their way to make you feel at home. Two thumbs up.

Staff is friendly and so are the patrons, has a small town feel while not feeling dive-y, but upscale and chic. When I am in town I always check to see if Merle's is open and try to make it there for a cocktail. Not feeling cocktails they have a section of the menu dedicated to mocktails. Not just a juice or mixer with a dash of bitters either, they've put the same care into developing them that seems to go into the alcoholic cocktails. More of a beer person? Great! Merle's has a handful of NC drafts as well. My first visit to Merle's was in 2023 in April. The cocktails consumed were balanced and well concocted. The use of the space, which I remember visiting when it was an antiques shop 'back in the day', was well used and the patio area quite niece. Every time after when we would visit town my wife and I would try to make it to Merle's, unfortunately we kept lucking out! Recently I was down to help clean out my childhood home and the last day of my visit overlapped with Merle's first day open for the weekend. I decided to swing by and am so glad that I did! Not only were the cocktails wonderful but so was the conversation and camaraderie As an out of town local I was welcomed in and found plenty of conversations to be a part of. I live in Columbus Ohio, where we have a lot of places to get cocktails and the sorts but I will tell you what, Merle's is such an absolutely welcoming gem that I think about visiting even 6.5 hours north! There aren't may things that make me excited to visit or do when I am back home but visiting Merle's sure is one of them! You're guaranteed to find friendly folks, a great drink, and a lovely place to relax.

We were headed straight for…read moreone of our favorite restaurants in Blowing Rock and then on the way I said, nope, starting now we are venturing out more like we used to. New experiences this next year and starting now! I searched online while the hubby drove and came up with this spot. I ordered the three-meat plate which included two sides and hushpuppies, and my husband ordered the fish and chips (shocker-Brit!), which also included two sides of his choice. He raved about the piece of fish and after taking a bite, I had to agree. A nice thick piece and the breading was just right. Nice fries as well. I didn't try the beans but my husband enjoyed them. I wasn't as enamored with the meats I received. They were just ok as Q goes, lacking any smoke flavor or crunchy bits like I prefer. The sauces were delicious though and while I'm not usually much of a sauce person I enjoyed them and as a result enjoyed the meats. The slaw and collards I had were again just ok. Points for being house-made, but I adore cole slaw and this slaw is a bit dry and needs some oomph. A little Duke's and ACV would make this amazing. A nice crunch and chop is already there but I would tweak it a bit. The collards were cooked perfectly and tasty but again, ACV is needed. Maybe even just add it to the sauce mixes on the table, so folks can doctor their dishes if desired? Why a photo of the silverware you ask? I was so happy to get real silverware and heavy, substantial pieces! It elevates my experience, just me maybe. As I was grabbing a few more photos of the bistro I noticed a nice bourbon selection, and being a bourbon aficionado I had to get closer. I had a nice chat with the owner, who explained a special weekly event he does for folks to try some premium grade liquors at cost and even went on to explain that he makes most of his infusions and mixes in house. Big points for that. I only wish we didn't live over an hour away, but maybe we can get back for some cocktail events at some point. I would/will definitely return and try some other menu items. Service was great, cleanliness is clearly high on their list, and everyone was just super nice.
