I did not give this a 5 rating for several but primarily insignificant reasons. The Fried Cat Fish I ate was excellent, red beans and rice good, and corn bread was great. I ate these while at the establishment. It was small but clean, adequate parking and friendly staff. But.....Ordered tarter sauce and got hot sauce, The gumbo was sooo salty I could not eat it. And my friends usually chastise me for the salt amounts I eat. This was ever with no added salt at the table. I figured that as good as this fish was primarily wasc I would get another meal to take home. I took Chicken Fried chicken. The chicken had a sauce on it, but not sure what it was. It was difficult to reach a crisp Chicken Fried coating even in my air fryer and i put 1/3 of it in the trash. The Gumbo was the same salt laiden uneatable, the beans and rice and cornbread were good. I am not leaning toward not trying it again. I will probably order fish again, (with tartar sauce) with no gumbo. I want this place to be good as it is a provider of the food I like to eat. read more

Best SOUL food I've ever had. A little bit of love from the heart in each bite. Sooo good. Will def eat here again. DO NOT LET LOOKS DECEIVE YOU, the food is outstanding! We first drove by and thought they were closed (Monday is the day they are closed ... it was Tuesday). The space is small though they do have some table if you want to eat there, we got ours to-go. I ordered the special, Salisbury steak and chose greens as my side, my co worker ordered the same protein with yams. She said the yams were delicious not too sweet as some places add sugar, 7.8.5 kitchen does not and she ate them all. We both enjoyed the protein that came with mashed potatoes so yummy that I chose to go back and get the cat fish just to try it later in the evening. GET THE CATFISH!!!! The batter was light and seasoned so well, not greasy as I have experienced other places! The ONLY thing I didn't like was the stems in the greens but that's personal preference and didn't impact the taste which was outstanding! So disappointing. In addition to being a very sketchy place, people were rude and music was so loud we had to ask them to turn it down so we could even order. They had nothing at all to drink (zero). The girl said we have tea and lemonade and the cook said no we dont have any. They had daily specials listed but the cook said no they don't have daily specials. We obviously weren't wanted there but we did get our less than mediocre food and took it to hotel to eat it. Or try anyway. One set of plastic ware for 3 dinners which I know is not a big deal but speaks to total lack of customer Service. Just not a good experience at all. Ended up tossing most of it. This was the worst experience I've ever had on catered food. 7.8.5 K was offering a $25 fee to fry a turkey brought in to cook for thanksgiving. When I got there @ 5p scheduled time they was 30min behind. Ok no problem when I got my food the owner had helped me by putting it in my SUV for me which was helpful. But when I got home to look at my turkey it was completely burnt I mean charred. How in the heck can a restaurant owner even feel comfortable giving me that bird. I recently moved from KC and was looking for something similar to the restaurants there. I've never written a review but wow, this place has the best chicken and rice I think I've ever had. For $10 the Tuesday special is a no brainer, the service was great and it was cool to see that everything was made quite literally in front of me.
