As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff! The atmosphere is always a vibe with chill music playing. The manager was very polite and was attentive to our needs! We did have to wait 15 mins for chicken but the manager informed us of that up front and we were okay with waiting! Everything was hot and tasted fresh. So the service is cafeteria style which is very nice... you can get select whatever you like and you can see how the food looks... Okay I started with a cup of gumbo. Being from down south gumbo is a staple in the southern culture so it is always fun to try other states interpretation of it. I will give the gumbo 10/10. The gumbo had a kick to it , which is how I like it. The seafood in the gumbo taste fresh, the chicken had a nice pepper sear on it which tied in the flavors. Overall I appreciate the dedication to the flavors and how they blended together. Shortly afterwards I had chicken, greens, Mac and Cheese, yams with a sweet potato cornbread. Yams, Mac and cheese, greens too delicious. The chicken was lightly seasoned, definitely a universal piece but had a good crunch. Giving this place five stars for the food and partly because of the service. The food was soooo delicious. This was our first time trying this place, and now it's one of our favorites. Everything tastes like it's cooked with love. The staff is super friendly for the most part, even the man cashier who wears a hat. He is just plain rude, but that doesn't deter us from eating here. The rest of the staff is super friendly. The way the place works was a little confusing as newcomers because it's like an assembly line of food and no one would explain how it works, but we got the hang out it. Everyone was in line waiting over 20 minutes for fried chicken so I didn't bother with that. I got yams which were super hot and very well spiced. The macaroni was out of this world!! I don't even usually ever get macaroni but this was amazingly seasoned and had SUCH flavor! Finally the banana pudding was impressively delicious. This place has been a staple for me and a lot of people that I know. Almost everyone I know has been to this place multiple times and has fallen in love with the food. The food is beyond delicious!! They have a great variety of meats, greens, and sides that fill up the plate and leave you wanting more. The problem that i've been having recently is the locations running out of food. I wouldn't be upset if they ran out close to closing time but it's usually middle of day. I have been multiple times where they do not have a specific kind of chicken or out of multiple sides completely. On top of that, the wait time has gone up by a ton. I really do enjoy this place and will be coming back but I think those things should be improved for their loyal customers. Been going to this place for years, used to be down in the jazz district. I've also gone to the cafeteria pre-Covid when they had buffet style. I love everything I've gotten from this place. I usually get the catfish, but I've tried almost everything else on the menu And all of it is delicious. My favorite side is the yams. Let it be noted that when I arrived the name of this business had changed: the former Peachtree Buffet is now the Peachtree Cafeteria. Peach tree has been a favorite spot of mine for a number of years. It's been quite a while since I've come... Perhaps my last visit was pre-pandemic... And some things have changed. I'm not sure if it's for the better or not. First things first, the food is as outstanding as it always has been. I'm from the south and I grew up eating fried chicken, fried catfish, sweet potatoes, and greens. Every once in a while. I need a fix, and peach tree has always been my go-to to scratch that itch. On all of my prior visits, You paid on entry and served yourself from the buffet. When I arrived today, I noted the name change but I didn't think much of it until I walked in. Perhaps it was my prior experiences that caused the confusion, but now it is a true cafeteria style experience. I had trouble figuring out where to start, and rather than paying up front, you pay at the end of the line. That said, the staff was happy to help me figure out the new routine. Where before all menu options were available to every patron, there are now specific options on how you order: two meats and two sides, three meats and three sides... Etc. Formerly, the desserts were also available, but now are an add-on item. I'm disappointed not to have the number of options I formerly had, but, as I mentioned earlier, the food is still remarkable and the prices are fair for what you get. We live in a different day and age than we did before covid-19, and I suspect the changes made at Peachtree were implemented both for public safety and to maximize their profit margin in light of the skyrocketing prices in our current economy. While today's experience started out uncomfortably, and though my first thoughts were that I might not choose to return, once I learned the new routine and know how to proceed, I would still recommend Peachtree as a premiere Soul Food experience in KC. I gave my wife a short list of restaurants near Kauffman Stadium for a pregame birthday dinner. She chose Peachtree and I was excited to finally try it. The entire experience was slightly confusing and a bit underwhelming. Upon entering and trying to determine the process, we were directed down to the end of the food line to order. We found out upon trying to pay at the of our meal that we should of payed first. I'm not sure why the servers didn't inform us when we were asking questions and changing our minds on what we wanted. Strange. The interactions with staff were also less than ideal - staff are still wearing masks and Peachtree is blasting old school Motown on the speakers. I love me some Aretha and Stevie but not when it makes interaction with staff almost impossible. We soon figured out that Peachtree Buffet is not actually a buffet, but served cafeteria style. I ordered the 3 meats and 3 sides but quickly found out that only certain meats are allowed, when pointing to the BBQ ribs. I was forced to get 2 pieces of fried chicken and 1 piece of catfish. My sides were greens, fried okra and mac and cheese and I selected a small corn bread muffin as my bread. Of the 6 items I sampled, nothing stood out as best in class or provided a reason to eagerly return. There was a "three meats and sides" restaurant in the West Bottoms that only lasted a couple of years, while Peachtree has been around a couple of decades. The worst dish at the other place was far greater than the best offering at Peachtree. It really gives me pause to wonder how any that makes sense! My wife really liked her 2 meats and 2 sides, so I would not veto a return trip if she was wanting some more of "the best greens ever" (I do not agree); but I would not return for a visit of my own choosing, when I could get better fried chicken, catfish or side dishes at a multitude of places. read more

This spot was recommended by a big food fan whose opinion I trust when it comes to Southern food. I arrived around 5:30pm on Sunday to a long line of patrons. When it was my turn I got the Big Mama, 3 meats/3 sides and bread. I got the Turkey, smothered pork chop, fried chicken, black eyed peas, cornbread dressing, collard greens, an extra side of mac and cheese and peach cobbler for dessert. I knew I wasn't going to finish but I have lunch for today. Everything was outstanding! The service was friendly but not the best. Girl at the registers as yelling for everyone to stay in their respective stations; one of my servers went to see if they had more black eyed peas and after 10 minutes he came out and started serving others while I just stood there waiting, they did eventually bring it out. Today is Sunday and it's oxtail Sunday but we had to wait 10-20 minutes for an order of oxtails. They ran out of yams but 10-15 minutes later it was back. I got the fried catfish cabbage and yams. Everything was good however fish was alittle salty. My wife had the oxtail special and I saw a lot of fat on the meat but she enjoyed it overall. The fried chicken was dry and salty according to my little niece she also didn't care for the mash potatoes. The desserts were good no complaints! One piece of steamed fish, one piece of fried fish, one fried chicken breast, serving of Mac and Cheese, serving of Collard Greens, serving of candied yams, one piece of corn bread, one dinner roll, one piece of German Chocolate cake and a side of gravy and hot sauce to dip smother the chicken and dip the dinner roll. A big glass of water all for $25! You cannot have anything else to do for the rest of the day because you will feel so full and so happy all you can do is let God in and count all your blessings. Just so I'm clear, There are two locations for this restaurant. One is cafeteria style, the other an al-you-can-eat buffet (I think they've gone back to this since COVID is some better). I had not visited the buffet in years, but decided to drop by. I was very impressed by upgrades that had been made to the restaurant. It was also very clean and well kept. As I proceeded to make selections I was met by a super friendly server who engaged in an interesting dialogue. I must say the food looked so good I could have jumped over the buffet and dove right in (presentation is Everything)! It was pipin' hot and fresh which says a lot nowadays. They have a huge variety of meats, vegetables/sides with healthier choices, too. There are also plenty of desserts for those with a sweet tooth. I chose the delectable German Chocolate cake. Umph, umph, umph! It was THE BEST I've EVER had. It was sooo moist with all the ingredients on point and the piece was huge (right up my alley). I don't have a father and never have, but I had a mom who raised me and she didn't believe in eating out so all of my meals were home cooked. I did what most kids raised in a small town do and moved very far from all my family and now most of my family interaction happens over social media. Today I really wanted something that felt like it was cooked with love in it and several friends recommended peach tree. I have never had a meal make me cry but when the food tasted almost exactly like my moms I started to actually cry and ate every bite. I don't know how much my mindset might have made this one of the best meals I've had in 10 years versus the actual quality or taste of the food but if I could rate higher than five stars I would. This use to be one of my favorite restaurants. This was the first time I came back after the pandemic restrictions. They have converted it from a buffet to cafeteria style. The fried chicken was cold, the other items were average. They were out of cornbread for 30 minutes. They put your food in a Styrofoam container even if you eat there. The wait staff was not very friendly. They were not running the air conditioning even though it was more than 90 degrees outside. It was boiling in the restaurant. I know times are tough after the pandemic, but quality needs to return and it needs to go back to a buffet. read more

I received many mixed reviews about this place prior to visiting. The food took me by surprise and was pretty good on the day that I went. A group of my coworkers and I each had 2 plates or more! They have a small salad bar option available. The had a station that displayed the meats. Meat Loaf, fried chicken, baked chicken and smothered pork chops. For someone who grew up eating this food and knowing how much time, love and effort go into it makes me appreciate it even more. A whole bunch of my family came into Peachtree last night there were 17 of us by the way. They had a table ready for us in no time and once we paid you are free to get to the buffet. Our server greeted us and got us our drinks quickly; sadly they didn't have any peach tea left that's my first suggestion is to try that, but we got strawberry lemonades and Arnold palmers and they were super tasty ! This buffet offers fried/ baked catfish, fried chicken, Mac N cheese, mashed potatoes, ribs, salad, greens, other veggie sides, and am abundance of cakes and pies you could imagine. It's easy to mess this food up but that's not what is happening here. The food here is fantastic and you can tell the amount of love and time goes into making sure it's served correctly and fast. It may take them a little bit to refill especially on a busy Saturday night but it's so worth the wait. You know it's coming out fresh, full of flavor, and HOT ! Peach tree is no ordinary buffet and if a buffet isn't your thing you can call in a to go box that they will make you from all the fresh food off the line. My only complaints are that the high chairs were not wiped off well enough and this is the day I forgot the high chair cover. Also the peach tea being gone, not getting peach tea from here is a let down because it is SO GOOD ! I'm giving them 1 star. The only great thing about this place was our waitress or the lady that carried our food to the table for us! we walk in, no greeting, cool. Were unsure where the line starts or begins. No one offers us help so we figure out where the "line" starts on our own. we get in line and the person preparing plates is just staring at us (she seemed to have had an attitude. not sure.) so we're looking at the board where you choose your side amount and meat amount ect and how to order on our own. The team work between co-workers just wasn't there. If the lady preparing the meats was unavailable the "sides guy" just sat and stared....?!? it was just.... No!! Food was just ok. Nothing special at all. I believe in giving place's second chances and maybe it was just a really bad day and everyone just wasn't feeling it. Happy Thanksgiving. Y'all already KNOW the food is fire! This is more about the service. I placed an order totalling $175 two weeks before and paid half up front. Day of pick up was total chaos. Poor girl upfront couldn't find my order. Finally, packed up made it to the car. Thought best to check. Surprise! Two dressings and no pie. Took entire order back inside dripping juice from the greens across the parking lot. THEN they said they ddn't have the apple pie so she subbed with peach...ok fine! I ordered the two meat meal that came with two sides, baked chicken and fried chicken, collard greens (very tasty), fried okra, and the corn bread ( was hard).
