I was very pleasantly surprised by that. The restaurant itself was pretty plain, but clean. The focus is definitely on their food and service. I had the special of the day, which was a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and a house made roll for like $10. It was delicious. Everything on the plate seemed made in house, and the roll was hot out of the oven. Their pie case was filled with house made pies, so I had to have a slice. I got raspberry cream, which isn't one I see very often, but do like a lot. It was excellent as expected. Yes, you read that right...a personalized, hand written thank you note! To be honest, this lovely boutique historic hotel is far from fancy but what it lacks in glamour is made up in spades by the friendliness of all the employees. These folks will go out of their way to try to accommodate you. They are obviously working their tails off to make a nice hotel, one which will undoubtedly provide every comfort. The room that I stayed in and the others I saw still have quite a way to go in terms of style and comfort but I am confident that they are doing their absolute best to improve every bit. Each member of the staff is putting in crazy hours and energy! I was truly overwhelmed by a couple of things; The chef was the only one there when we checked in and he handled it all. I later learned that in addition to manning the ship when needed at the hotel he does several other jobs outside the hotel. His cooking is amazing! The manager also works mad hours with so much responsibility. A friend/all around handy man of the hotel hung out with us a bit on the patio and we learned that he does a tremendous amount to help there in addition to his other jobs. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions.
