I do not frequent the 7 11 near Kawananakoa Middle School quite often. But today, I decided to pick up a cup of coffee from 7 11. I was so surprised to see fried rice in the warmer. It looked pretty good, so I decided to pick it up. I liked it. It wasn't bad at all for a convenience store fried rice. It had charsiu and lup chong, which helped enhance the taste. For $4.70, it's a good deal and I plan to pick it up again tomorrow. But this time, I'm going to add the delicious siu mai. Service was fast and the cashiers were nice. Here, the local company caters to residents of the 50th State. The snacks, ice cream, beverages, hot food, deli items, etc. carry different items from those on the continental USA. For example, this 7-Eleven on the corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Kuakini Street had some kulolo, butter mochi, and peanut butter filled mochi by the cash registers. There were candy and arare leis for sale, as well as lanyards decorated with spam musubi designs. Even the Slurpee machine had a Green River flavor! In the warmers, manapua, pork hash, fish musubi, and other Hawaii snack favorites were displayed. The refrigerator area, goodies such as saimin and pho were available! I saw unusual items such as mochi ice cream and tropical flavored popsicles in the freezer! My mainland friends tell me that they wish their 7-Elevens would have these items for sale. Made a visit to the 7 Eleven located on 1755 Nuuanu Avenue tonight Sunday, April 16, 2023, around 7:10pm. As I pulled into a marked parking stall fronting the entrance of the 7 Eleven, I noticed an older gentleman exit the store, stomp over to the parked car I was pulling in next to. He reached into the fully open car window to grab something from within the car. I didn't think much of it. Once inside, I gathered a handful of snack items I was craving; turkey sandwich, teri chicken egg salad sandwich and a Slurpee. As I approached the registers, I noticed the man from earlier still at the register, obviously agitated with the employee ringing him up. To note, she was the only register open, though there were 2 other women staff members behind the counter near the musubi/hot food area, and 3 customers in line, including myself. Though I wasn't present for the entire exchange, the portion I DID overhear was the man being upset for having to show a valid ID to purchase cigarettes. The employee was VERY cordial and professional in trying to inform him that it is 7 Eleven POLICY to check ID for each and every purchase that requires it (cigarettes, alcohol). There are multiple posted notices stating this. The customer was extremely rude, bordering abusive in his verbal attacks to this poor girl who is just doing her job. As he wrapped up his verbal insults, he stated "you stupid or what? How old you think I am? I shouldn't have to show you ID!" (I've chosen to exclude profanity for the sake of keeping this review PG) and promptly left. The employee then continued to ring up one more customer before calling out to the other 2 staff to have someone take over for her. Everyone in line, including myself, the family being rung up by her and those behind me voiced understanding while she excused herself to the back. Working in a gas station, quick service store in the Kalihi area cannot be easy. I truly give this girl credit for keeping her cool and handling this toxic interaction while upholding the rules set forth by corporate. This 7-11 is a part of my childhood days. I attended Kawananakoa and would frequent this 7-11 multiple times a week. I recall getting snacks afterschool. Favorites at that time were the frozen burritos, cheese nachos and of course, Slurpees. Those were such good days coming here with friends. I settled in Liliha in the late 90's and sadly, I haven't been patronizing 7-11. For gas, I primarily drive to Costco for the $$$ savings and for snacks and drinks.......I just don't come here. I don't see anything that gets my attention. Every year on July 11th, 7-11 offers a free small Slurpee up until 7pm at all locations. Of the 20 years living in Liliha, I perhaps redeemed the free Slurpee maybe 5 times at the most? This past year I received a friendly reminder text from my sister about the freebie. By pure coincidence I didn't have to night shift so I made my way here after my regular job and arrived shortly after 5pm. I was NOT surprised to find the parking lot FULL but I took a chance and somehow managed to double park. But, I left extra room just in case the person in front of me needed to leave. I walked in and lo and behold, a LONG LINE. NO surprise again so I redeemed my free small cup at the center table and stood in line. It was funny to have bumped into my next door neighbor as she also was here for the free Slurpee. The line did move faster than anticipated and when it was my turn, I noticed MANY MANY flavors with red lights, meaning it's NOT ready to serve. Some people (adults and children) stood on the side waiting as they really wanted the flavors of their choice. I wasn't in a rush to go home but didn't see the value in waiting so I just helped myself with the common flavor of Cola. I filled my cup and walked out. Customer service was standard. Nothing memorable. They did have extra staff on board and politely asked people to wait on the side to allow foot traffic to go through. The parking lot has 2 entrances with a self serve gas dispenser on the same lot. I've noticed questionable people loitering around this area and don't feel this is a safe place to come and pick something up, especially in the evenings. Compared with the 7-11 stores in Asia, this one was sad for me. The premade hot food, the chillers, snacks and drinks didn't impress me. When I travelled in Asia for one month last year, at the 7-11's in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, the selection and food quality were impressive and they set the bar high. So now that I'm back to reality, sadly the 7-11's in Hawaii just don't excite me. For the above referenced reasons, I don't come to this 7-11 location, despite it being closest to my home. No choice but to take the loading area parking, I watched 3 gentlemen walk in from the street. To my surprise there were no other customers in the store except the 3 gentlemen just before me. I'm always amazed with what you can buy at 7-11. Usually, my go-tos are the Japanese snacks at the front of the store as they are imported and the musubis. After seeing a friend's post of the new Fresh Blends machine that whips up everything from Frappes, smoothies, shakes and even flavored frozen lemonade, I knew we'd have to make a stop to try it out. The Fresh Blends machines are not found at every location yet. On the website, if you look under "Locations" and scroll to "Fresh Blends", the website will display the locations that carry the product! Pretty awesome website! We ended up going to the Nuuanu location. The Fresh Blends machine is located near the Slurpee area and is user friendly. We had wanted to make a coffee frappe and a strawberry banana milkshake, but they were out? The machine did not have the options for these (even though the pics were displayed) so we settled on a Strawberry smoothie and strawberry lemonade. You have 2 size options with the large being I think, $3.65? I thought this was quite reasonable. My son made both drinks with a few touches on the machine's screen. This used to be my to go 711 location since I always found the workers and atmosphere of the store to be more welcoming than others, however it changed after I was rudly helped by one of the cashiers. Older lady probably in her late 50 maybe 60. She was more than rude she was straight up disrespectful. Raising her voice and tone and demanding for me to give my card to her. This location especially needs to invest more time and efforts in customer service training. Haven't gone back since. read more

Haha, this is where some of my oldest childhood memories are. Coming here late at night to buy slurpees and to play video games by myself. Gone are the videogames, but a huge selection of slurpees are now available. Parking Wise: Huge parking lot with parking both in front and on the side of the store. Service: Sometimes there are long lines due to so many customers. But there are 4 registers so hopefully you will be lucky and they open more registers. When I went today there were 10 people in line and they opened the 3rd register. Selection: Huge selection with a lot of merchandise in stock. I find this 7-11 to have a better inventory then most of the other 7-11s on Oahu. Overall: Great place in a central location to grab and go, especially small stuffs like snacks. Although convenient as hell, it can be a little sketchy at night, so I make an effort to frequent the next location 1/8 mile south on Nuuanu after dark (Why so close? I ask myself that all the time). We mostly go to this store because they ALWAYS have banana flavored Icees when most other places don't (one of my daughters is picky about her Icee flavor). There's really not much to say about this place. This place is possibly the grimiest, sketchiest, smallest, and most unstocked 7-Eleven ever. Not only are they completely sold out of things most of the time (thanks hungry middle school kids across the street). But its completely sketchville here. I think because of the low income housing and the public park across the street.. to the point that they've hired a security guard that stands out front at night. What! (No security guard at the 7-Eleven down the road.) I've never once had a good experience here.. one time my car broke down here (as a teen) and I was stuck here for several hours, not knowing what to do. (I know this has nothing to do with the place, but its just bad juju nonetheless). And my experience here yesterday just validates why I won't be ever be coming back. So...as I reach the counter with my junk food goodies, the manager (older asian gentleman, possibly the owner), proceeds to BLOW HIS NOSE for a minute or two into a napkin. Then pockets the napkin and grabs my FOOD items to scan. GERMS GERMS GERMS. All over my canned drink and chip bag. BARF. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's like that one person who sneezes in your face or coughs into your hair. EWWWWWWW GET ME AWAYYYYYY. Why the heck do we need two 7-Eleven's just a short walk from each other? Oh wait...we have multiple ABC stores in Waikiki, why can't we have multiple 7-Eleven's? Wait..its because it is in a residential area, not tourist-y Waikiki! I guess people need quick and easy access to their booze? If you happen to live in the neighborhood, the 7-Eleven on Nuuanu and Kuakini is a pretty convenient spot to hit up when the need for a bottle of water, the bag of ice, or perhaps gas should strike. It has convenient entrances off both streets and the parking stalls are wide and easy to get in and out. If you happen to coming into the city from the Windward side, its a hop skip and jump away from the highway to hop on/off. Get off at Pauoa road though, its a double white line after Pauoa road and technically illegal to cross. Prices are reasonable (for convenience stores) and the store is clean and well laid out so that you can find the items you should be looking for. The dim sum and hot dog tend to be pretty fresh too! So if you need a convenience store and in the neighborhood, check out this 7-Eleven. Oh, and if it is busy, head makai (to the ocean) on Nuuanu and you'll hit another one at Nuuanu and School. read more

My name is Lisa and I'm a 7-11 addict. It's true, I can go to 7-11 at least once a day, but I try not to. This is one of the closer 7-11s to my workplace so I usually stop by here. Like those before me, there are the kind of shady people that sit outside on occasion, so I probably wouldn't come here at night. The parking lot seems like a lot but if you come here at the wrong time (after school gets out), it's a complete mess. I just want my energy drink, not to sit in the parking lot while we wait for parking :( Inside it's usually fairly clean. They carry the occasionally item that I don't see at other 7-11s such as my Monster Ultra Black. Overall it's pretty well stocked, workers are okay but the parking is the junk part. read more

Wowza!!!! Just looking on the outside of this place it makes me wonder if I should even get out of my car. I went here early this morning to make a quick stop. My bf filled up our tank while I went in the store to get us drinks to wash down our breakfast. I must admit I never would come here alone because it seems like I would get mug or something would happen to me. This place isn't the safest or most inviting 7 eleven on the Island. But once I went through the doors I was amazed. The first thing that caught my attention was the floors, dang the floors were sparkling clean... I could literally see my reflection on those puppies! I had to take a quick look and see if everything else was as clean as the flooring was... AND... Yes it was! I went straight to the refrigerated section to get water and vitamin D juice. The prices are reasonable as any other place. The hot food section was clean and the food looked eatable and buyable! Spam Musbi, pork hash and manapuas looked so good too bad I already got breakfast. The shelves were neatly organized and stacked with all the goodies. No messy slurpee machines, no homeless man sitting by the door. When I got to the cash register the cashier was really pleasant. She rung me up and said her thank you and also asked if I needed a bag for my drinks. Although this place is very nice and I would go here again I just can't get over the curb appeal. I usually get gas at 76 since it's the most convenient for me. This gas station shares the same spot as the 7 Eleven across from the Kawananakoa Middle School basketball court. It's the closest to my home and the closest going into the freeway entrance plus I can always go grab a quick snack at 7 Eleven. The only thing is it tends to get pretty busy throughout the morning and afternoon because of all the students crowding in before and after school and the parents dropping and picking them up so it causes a lot of traffic going to and coming out of the gas station since they would drop their kids or pick them up there and have them walk over from the school. I guess they don't like picking/dropping off their kids at the school entrance cause it's always crowded and the school's main entrance is so small. Also I noticed several times when I go to refill gas that the receipt paper is always out so it can't print out my receipt and it notifies me to go pick up my receipt inside the store..now that was a big inconvenience because I'm usually always in a rush to get out. It would be nice if the staff is more attentive in refilling the receipt papers. read more

I have stopped by this location several times and you should not go here at night. This place is so sketchy and there are almost always Micronesians hanging out or just sitting around doing nothing. And sure there's a homeless guy once in awhile, but that's not that bad. All I know is I get stares like I'm an alien visiting or something, which I suppose makes sense considering I'm the only white guy I have ever seen there, sort of a prostitute once in awhile. Anyone who doesn't live in those complexes by Kawananakoa Intermediate school knows what I'm talking about. The good thing is that there's a policeman who sits there in his car sometimes late at night which is good. It's also very telling about the safety of that 7-11. There's a 7-11 a little further down the street to the right, and that one is a lot better to go to.
